Community Updates BY MICHELLE SAUNDERS, LCAM

018 was an amazing year for Victoria Park! At the time of writing this article we had 264 new homes sold with at least 28 more scheduled to close before the end of 2018. This will have us starting 2019 with close to 2,400 residents! New home construction will continue in 2019 in Victoria Gardens, Victoria Hills and Victoria Trails. Victoria Oaks also broke ground in 2018 and should have models opening mid-2019. In addition to the new home sales, we also had 122 resales in the community. These numbers are extremely impressive in today’s market which continues to prove Victoria Park as a sought after, premiere community not just in DeLand, but also the surrounding areas.

one soon. We also have concerts, ladies nights, stargazing and comedy nights coming up, just to name a few. I would like to challenge every resident to participate in at least one event this year and please feel free to reach out to us with any suggestions you may have.

Victoria Park Gives Back A HUGE thank you to all the residents who donated items for the Hurricane Michael relief. You donated over 1,000 items (15 truckloads) to our friends in the panhandle! Check out some of the pictures on page 7 of this month’s edition of The Picket Fence.

Communication Phase II of the Village Center is also well underway and should be complete in the second quarter of 2019. The new phase will bring additional restaurants, retail shops and medical offices.

If you do not receive notifications such as our weekly e-newsletter or special announcements sent via email, please contact the Community Management Office to verify your email is on the list. This is the best way to stay up to date on the latest news throughout the community.

Lifestyles One of the unique aspects of living in Victoria Park is the Lifestyles Program. Throughout the year we have dozens of events which are open to all residents in Victoria Park. We strive to offer something for everyone. Our large family-friendly events in 2018, such as the Easter Extravaganza, Halloween Spooktacular and Christmas Whobilation, saw some of the largest turnouts we’ve had in recent years with close to 500 residents in attendance at each event. The drive in movie night at the golf course was a great success and we’ll be scheduling another

From all of us here at Evergreen Lifestyles Management, we wish you a warm, healthy, and Happy New Year!

MICHELLE SAUNDERS is the Community Manager for Victoria Park. You can reach her at 386-738-2112 or by email at MSaunders@ Evergreen-LM.com.

Beautification Award Winners We’d like to introduce you to our latest Victoria Park Beautification Award Winners, Ned and Barbara Crockett of 514 Ridgeway Boulevard (pictured above). Their home was chosen based upon a visual inspection that included landscaping and decorations. They expressed receiving this award was a very wonderful compliment. Ned and Barbara have lived in Victoria Park since August 2004 and have dedicated themselves to improving and maintaining the beauty of their home. They perform self-maintenance of their landscape with the exception of the grass and enjoy gardening. They chose Victoria Park to build their custom home by Arthur Rutenberg and enjoy living here. They are excited about their community and Nextdoor.com. In addition, they are golfers and enjoy socializing with friends and neighbors. Ned and Barbara believe that they are blessed and fortunate to live in Victoria Park.

SPOTLIGHT

Resident Spotlight: Frank Bianchi BY E V E LY N R O S A , L I F E S T Y L E D I R E C TO R

Frank Bianchi, a native of Rochester, New York, retired to Florida with his wife, Janice in 2002. They have been residents of the Gardens for 16 years. In 2008, Frank began teaching Victoria Gardens residents Tai Chi for its multiple health benefits, which improve balance, flexibility, breathing and mental focus. Frank started his study of Chinese Martial Arts in the late 1960’s. His progression through those years earned him a Red Belt and teaching degree in the Wu Dang Kung Fu Style art form from the late Grand Master Sam Wong of Canada and Grand Master Mark Cassara of Rochester, New York. Prior to moving to Florida. Frank and Grand Master, Mark Cassara opened a martial arts school where Frank concentrated his teaching

skills to children between the ages of eight through sixteen. Recently, Frank awarded his Victoria Gardens advanced students with a Certificate of Achievement in the practice of Yang-Style Tai Chi (pictured below).

VICTORIA HILLS GOLF CLUB

Updates from the Club BY EXECUTIVE CHEF MICHAEL MORRISON

2018 Recap

The Team

We’ve had a busy 2018! Since the completion of the Clubhouse renovations, Victoria Hills and Sparrow’s Grille has quickly become the social hub for Victoria Park.

Since the remodel last spring we have held over 100 events in the Azalea Room. The events are planned and executed by Lisa White, our onsite Event Director. She has done an awesome job of working with both residents and some of the biggest companies in the area to create great experiences that are above and beyond expectations.

We had many special celebrations, such as Mother’s Day and Easter Brunch, Wine Dinners that Chef Matt Hayman and myself, along with Bill from the Elusive Grape, have collaborated on. We hosted fun and well-attended parties for St. Patrick’s Day and the Masters. We combined the Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo and had the “Cinco de Derby” party with a Showing of the Derby, a most fabulous Hat Competition and Mexican food offerings. Together with Justine from Lifestyles, we hosted some awesome events like Kids in the Kitchen, Movie on the Green, and Resident Appreciation Day. In the fall, we had a Thanksgiving Feast and held our first ever Oktoberfest celebration with German cuisine, beer and music.

This Year Our Social Programing is more plentiful than ever with something happening every Wednesday through Saturday night. We have our Famous Pasta Night every Wednesday evening. Wing Night paired with Bingo or Trivia is every Thursday night. On Fridays we often host Karaoke and always have specials that are prepared just for the evening. The last Friday of the month we have Prime Rib Night, and in our humble opinion it is the Best Prime Rib around! Saturdays are all about Burger Night with often 100 plus folks coming to Sparrow’s for the best burger in town! We have also recently updated both the Lunch and Dinner Menus with new small plates, big salads and entrées. We continue to offer the best deal around for Brunch with a full meal and your choice of a Mimosa or Bloody Mary for only $11!

The golf course is in amazing condition. In fact, we have received so much praise that it borders on embarrassing at times! This is especially true for Brad Tucker, the Course Super, who is forever humble and hardworking. He can often be found on the course before sunrise and there well after most would have called it day. The course is tournament ready and Golf Pro Mike Barille is doing a great job of hosting and directing golf groups big and small. Now in his seventh year here at Victoria Hills, Mike holds a wealth of knowledge about the course. He provides dynamic instruction that combines video and hands-on coaching. He has helped new players and experienced golfers learn the game from a technical and practical view point. Mike’s straight-forward approach to the game continues to make him a valuable member of the team. In addition to being the Executive Chef, I have also stepped into the role of Food and Beverage Director and in turn promoted Sous Chef Matt Hayman to Chef de Cuisine. Together we will continue to keep up with market trends and execute from scratch food offerings with care and pride. Happy New Year!

MICHAEL MORRISON is the Executive Chef for Sparrow’s Grille and the Food & Beverage Director of the Victoria Hills Golf Club in Victoria Park. You can reach him at 386-738-6000 or by email at MMorrison@Hampton.Golf.
