The Annual Walk/Run for a Cure Was a Success! By Narda and Tony Handler Solivita Walk/Run for a Cure Event Coordinators The 9th Annual Walk/Run for a Cure held on February 18th was an outstanding success! The first event, 9 years ago, had about 50 participants and this year we had 364. The donations raised also set a new record! Every penny goes directly to the American Cancer Society to help find a cure. We would like to thank all of the very generous participants who joined us in this fight against cancer and look forward to next year when we hope to set a new participant record again! We’d also like to extend a special thanks to the young students from Palmetto Elementary School who participated in the run with us. WE WILL WIN THIS BATTLE! NEVER GIVE UP!

Committee Roundup Solivita Advisory Committee (SAC) The Committee kicked off the January meeting welcoming new members Joyce Colin, Joe Ewing, Stephan Kane, and Hal Smith. We discussed future agendas and community issues for the new year. One of our primary activities will concern security and safety in the community.

Solivita Lifestyles Activities Committee (SLAC) The SLAC committee brought ideas for two copycat restaurant concepts. These are restaurants you travel to outside of Solivita that we will bring to you in Mosaics. For example: Cheddar’s, Chili’s, Miller’s Ale House, etc., but we will be changing the name, of course. The room will be decorated to give you the feel of the restaurant. You will be offered choices in appetizer, entrées, and dessert, but your order will be taken at the time of ticket purchase. The first copycat in May will be “Abuelo’s” that we will call “Grandpa’s.” The second copycat in the fall will be “Crabby Bill’s” that we will call “Crusty Crab’s.”

On behalf of the entire Solivita staff, THANK YOU TO ALL THE VOLUNTEERS who give their invaluable volunteer services to the Solivita community. Whether it may be organizing or delivering community newsletters, volunteering at the Thursday night movies, assisting clubs with their audio/visual needs, clerical assistance in several department offices, organizing the Library, assisting with Lifestyles events, selling tickets at Ticket Sales, assisting with the art classes, working at the new Resource Center, sitting on an advisory committee (SAC, SLAC, Wellness, Landscape, F&B, ARC, etc.) and the many other duties you fulfill is SO appreciated and it is more than you know. You are the helping hands, smiling faces, caring hearts and rays of sunshine that keeps Solivita a wonderful place to live for everyone! On a yearly average, 162 volunteers give 10,000 hours to Solivita, so thank a Rays of Service volunteer today!

Reflections Volunteers

By Carolyn Roe, Communications Coordinator The end of every month finds a dedicated group of volunteers making their way to the Ballroom beginning at 8 in the morning. Some of them move the 70 some odd boxes of Reflections into place while others start the task of “stuffing” inserts into the Reflections bags. Bags get sealed and labelled by still another group of volunteers. Yet another group gets the bagged Reflections and organizes them into delivery routes. Along come the deliverers, many of whom have also been stuffers and labelers, who get Reflections out to over 3,900 homes - usually by mid-afternoon the same day. A great big thank you is in order to approximately 72 volunteers who take the time to reflect on their community and themselves as volunteers. It really does take dedication to Solivita to do this task month after month.

Spring into Fun!

By Shelley Destefano Community Concierge Have your wits with you on April Fool’s Day, which is the first of the month or the jokes on you! Easter, which is on Sunday, April 16th, is a very yummy time of year. Although I am grown up, I always get a huge Easter basket filled with all the goodies! Then it hits me that I just gained 5 pounds; but if I consumed popcorn flavored Jelly Belly jellybeans, its fine with me! So, to work off some of those pounds I often walk around some of my favorite shopping locations in Florida.
