Riviera Spa & Fitness Center Renovations
The Riviera Spa & Fitness Center is back open and running. On behalf of the Evergreen Team, I would like to thank all of our residents for their patience and understanding during the renovation. A huge thank you to the instructors for being so flexible and adapting to the schedule changes and locations. Way to keep our residents moving!!! Most of this project was completed by the Evergreen Team, who came together to make it happen. There were many moving parts involving all Club departments from Membership, who kept on top of the door reader; Carolyn and Jamar keeping everyone informed through email blasts; to our wonderful Maintenance, Housekeeping and FitWell teams who painted, redesigned and cleaned every part of the building. The Maintenance Team came through with flying colors when the AV Homes Design Team and I added several extra projects to the list. I am very proud of the team and we hope that you are enjoying the new look of the facility. Now on to the next project!

Just Because...
By Jana Malik Director of Activities Did you know that every year there is a Just Because National Holiday on August 27th designed to break you out of your normal routine and to encourage you to stop worrying about the whys? Instead, it’s designed to inspire you to do something spontaneous or to spread a random act of kindness, whether it may be big or small. So in honor of this month, Just Because, let me tell you what is new, changing and going on in the Lifestyles Activities department for you!
Early Open Show Seating Tickets
The Lifestyles show on Friday, September 28th will be a test run for our new Early Open Show Seating (EOSS) concept. This is an early access pass to seating at shows after the Dinner QuickPass ticket holder seating, but before the general admission seating. For example, up to 76 Dinner and Show ticket holders will enter the Ballroom from the same entrance as always at 6:30pm to choose their desired seats. At 6:35pm, up to 50 Early Open Show Seating ticket holders will have the opportunity to select their seats before the doors open to the 6:40pm general admission ticket holders. The EOSS doors will remain open until the 7pm show start time. The EOSS tickets, limited to 50, will be sold for an additional $5 over the general admission price and will be designated as EOSS tickets. The diagram below shows the designated areas for each different show entrance (EOSS, Dinner and Show, and General Admission). Signs will also be posted in the Ballroom hallway to direct everyone to the correct area.
Solivita Club After Hours Emergency Contact Number
Since I started working in Solivita 13.5 years ago, (yes it’s been that long and I have loved every minute of it), this community has grown substantially not only in households, but also in the number of clubs (up to 259 as of writing), meetings, events, recreational and social activities, fitness classes, card groups, art and continued education (Solivita University) classes and SO much more. Because of the growth, the need has arisen to have staff available after hours to assist clubs with emergency issues. We are not talking about 911 health related or police required emergencies; we are talking about Solivita Club Facility emergencies, such as a toilet overflowing, ceiling leaks, audio visual assistance, a room setup error issue, etc. in the unstaffed spaces such as Freedom Park, Ballroom, Venezia Clubhouse, Art Gallery, etc. From 5pm-8pm on weekdays and from 12pm-5pm on weekends, you may call the Solivita Club After Hours Emergency Phone Number at 863-286-8779. Calls will be evaluated as an emergency or a message will be taken to handle during regular business hours. This phone number was already added on Resident Event Request Forms, which residents fill out to request Club facility spaces for club events and private parties, as of March 1, 2018.
New Department Email Address
Speaking of changes, we have also made a group Lifestyles Activities email address that is received by the entire team and will be answered by the team member that it is either more relevant to or the first one available. If you have a question about a room booking, to reschedule an event or meeting date, to check on ticket availability or to be added to a wait list, etc., you can email SolivitaActivities@evergreen-LM.com. (You do not have to capitalize any letters, it just makes it easier to read.) This email will be listed on page 2 of Reflections every month under our department phone number.
New Lifestyles Activities Position
A new position has been formed in this department called Activities Audio Visual Specialist and Brandon Payne, in the Lifestyles continued on page 5

Jana’s article continued from page 4
Activities office, has transferred to that position. His main focus will be on all the audio visual components in most of the Solivita Club facilities, including the portable equipment. He will also have other Lifestyles Activities duties and will continue to assist at Lifestyles events. If you see him around, give him a big congratulations as he has already Brandon Payne made excellent changes improving our audio visual portion of the Lifestyles program.
the Pub Crawl price will increase to $45 per resident. When you divide that up to 6 pubs, that’s only $7.50 per pub! I can almost guarantee you won’t find that price with everything we offer, including a t-shirt, at any other pub outside of our gates.
Pub Crawl Pricing
Just Because, Keep The Party Going!!!
If you read the SLAC article in June’s Reflections, you will know that we are adding a 6th pub and with that are able to add 40 additional attendees! However, adding a 6th bar incurs additional food, beverage and entertainment costs. Therefore,

Lounging in the Sun!
By Shelley Destefano Community Concierge It is hard to believe that more than half the year is gone. Summer was great but somehow it seems as if every year it gets hotter. Could it be possible to ask for more protection from our ozone layer? Those rays are surely intense! My daughter went swimming every day in summer camp and she looks entirely different now. She could be a model for a tanning company. Well, this is Florida and most of the year is beach weather but there’s so much more to do this month apart from sunbathing and lounging by the pool. Check out some neat events coming up below.

Please do not think that I am saying that there is anything wrong with lounging by the pool or lounging anywhere. I love to lounge by the pool, on the couch, at the movies...you name it. Life is short. Take some time this month to relax and just enjoy life! Community Concierge 863-427-7100 sdestefano@evergreen-LM.com

A Mid-Summer Update
By Brad Thompson Branch Manager, Floralawn Warm, humid mornings and dramatic afternoon thunderstorms: yes, this is Florida in August!
What do we look for to identify a sod webworm outbreak? We look for short patches of turf and for small brown moths that fly up out of the grass if disturbed. We also spot check the turf itself and look for the caterpillars.
While many residents pass summertime hours in Solivita’s refreshing swimming pools, Floralawn crews continue to work very hard on lawns and landscaping. Our abundant summer rains make the grass grow like crazy, and we have our work cut out for us keeping all turf maintained throughout the community.
Treatment of sod webworms is handled with an above-ground chemical insecticide. This is effective against the larvae but not against the moth.
As a side note, the safety of our crews, as they work in summertime heat, is of great concern to us. We hold training sessions on heat stress and heat exhaustion, educating our team members about hydration and the importance of taking rest periods to cool down. They learn about the dangers of heat stress and exhaustion and how to recognize signs.
Whitefly and scale are two more landscape pests that our Floralawn crews watch out for. These insects are found on shrubs, bushes, and trees. They are soft-bodied, sap-sucking pests that compromise the health of the foliage. They also excrete a substance called honeydew. Black sooty mold grows on honeydew, covering leaves and making plants look unsightly. We treat whitefly, scale, and other similar pests with insecticides that are generally effective but sometimes require repeat applications.
Besides mowing, our crews invest time in monitoring grass for warm-season turf pests. One summer pest is the sod webworm. This worm is actually a caterpillar found in lawns like St. Augustine, Bermuda, and zoysia. Sod webworm larvae eat the top part of grass blades; the mature caterpillar eats the entire blade, leaving whole areas of turf looking scalped.
Lovebug season is around the corner. Be prepared to encounter clouds of these flying bugs throughout September. Unfortunately, they come with the territory in Florida and we all have to deal with them!
Adult sod webworms become moths. They don’t damage turf, but they lay eggs during the night on grass blades, keeping the infestation going.

Spa Talk: The Importance of Digestive Enzymes for Gut Health By Crystal Bethea Owner of Riviera Spa Massage
Healthy Digestion
They say the stomach is considered the second brain being that digestion is one of the most important functions of the body. Digestive Enzymes play a critical role in unlocking and breaking down the nutrients in the foods we eat for maximum absorption.
Get Your Health Back On Track
• Look for our Spa Classes in the Community Events section under Upcoming Wellness Events in each edition of Reflections. I provide tons of valuable information on various topics concerning your health. (I hope to see you soon!)
When our enzymes are inadequate, it has a negative impact on our overall health. Expelling symptoms of gastrointestinal disorders, bloating, gas, fatigue, brain fog, headaches, skin rashes, joint pain...the list goes on. Through my research and personal experience, I’ve found that we can turn our situation around by reintroducing enzymes through supplements and proper eating habits.
• Save room in your stomach for digestion. Avoid filling up to the point of stuffed.
What to Look For
• Prepare/cook foods with coconut oil to stimulate lipase and support fat digestion.
There are many known enzymes but I’ve listed a few major categories of digestive enzymes. 1. Amylase is the most important and is responsible for breaking down carbohydrates, which can be found in many of our favorite foods, including pasta, bread and cereal. 2. Protease breaks down all kinds of proteins from meats like pork, beef, fish and even legumes and vegetables. Whether you’re vegan or carnivorous, we depend on this. (Leaky gut is tied to lack of this.)
• Drink water between meals to prevent enzyme dilution. • Consider ginger tea after meals or before bed to stimulate pancreatic enzymes.
• To enhance natural enzyme support, eat cultured veggies at every meal. If you’re looking for a place to start, feel free to log on to our website, www.rivieraspamassage.com, and click on the Young Living icon. Its my trusted brand of choice for me and my family.
3. Lipase is an enzyme responsible for breaking down and properly digesting fats. This plays an important role in helping us feel energetic to get through the day. It is proven that removing fat from the diet can lead to us feeling depressed. 4. Papain helps break down all kinds of protein, especially meat. Derived from the papaya fruit this helps relieve serious indigestion and gas. 5. Bromelain derived from pineapple, is a powerful enzyme that fights inflammation. It also helps with a wide range of issues and often prescribed after surgery.
