What Do ET and Vitalia Water Management Have in Common?
F Tyler Heel Community Manager theel@ evergreen-LM.com 877-221-6919
ortunately, there is no blockbuster alien invasion. ET is the acronym for evapotranspiration (ET), which is the sum of evaporation and plant transpiration from the earth’s land and ocean surface to the atmosphere. Evaporation accounts for the movement of water to the air from sources such as the soil, canopy interception, and water bodies. Transpiration accounts for the movement of water within a plant and the subsequent loss of water as vapor through stomata in its leaves. Evapotranspiration is an important part of the water cycle. An element (such as a tree) that contributes to evapotranspiration can be called an evapotranspirator.
scheduling for efficient water management. The new sensors will tell us about alarms on the system as components fail, pinpoint flow and water schedule violations. The new system will expedite repairs, as the technicians won’t have to spend man-hours hunting all over the system to find suspected issues anymore.
What Influences ET? Any of the following will cause a change in the evapotranspiration:
• • • •
A change in water availability in the soil. A change in the ability of the plants to keep up with atmospheric demand for water. A change in the ability of the atmosphere to pull water through the plant. In other words, a change in any component of the Soil-Plant-Atmosphere Continuum will influence ET.
After living in Vitalia for a while you’ll experience the demanding variables of the landscape. From poor soil conditions to wind load, our community is challenged and nearly impossible to predict contributing factors from week to week. With the new system in place we’ll soon see the benefits in overall health of the turf, shrubs and trees as well as a long-term financial benefit.

The software and hardware will utilize ET data gathered from associated weather stations and sensors to create water budgets, which are used to allocate precise

In addition, I appreciate club’s not promoting an event on site prior to having the date and time approved by me. This eliminates double bookings of our space and keeps everyone abreast of what’s happening at the clubhouse. If there is a change in the point of contact for your club, please come by the clubhouse and fill out the one-page paperwork providing me with the name, phone number, and email address. Please let me know if your club no longer needs a set date and time in the clubhouse (minimum number of people is 10), as this will open up space for new ideas and new clubs.

Art Club Wednesdays | 9:30am-12:30pm | Biscayne Room
We are a group that enjoys being creative. Many of us have never painted before, while some have years of experience. Either way we have fun, make new friends, and learn from each other. We welcome everyone from experienced artists to the beginner. We each work independently in all mediums and help each other to learn or improve on what we already know. There is no instructor and you bring your own supplies. Painting in watercolors is occasionally demonstrated. If you wish to be on our mailing list, please contact Ricky Stephens at sendaheartart@gmail.com or 239682-6532. You will be sent updates and club information. Craft Day Mondays | 1:30pm-5:30pm | Biscayne Room
Please join us to create a craft project. You bring your project, such as jewelry, crafts, mosaics, etc. We have all the supplies you need to do a mosaics project (there is a small 12 Vitalia Voice | April 2017

If you would like to learn a new craft, let us know. We’ll work on getting an instructor. So bring your favorite project and join in or just drop in to see what we’re all about. For questions, contact Polly Lasher at 772-345-9228 or Ricky Stephens at 239-682-6532.

The Basketball Club had its first “Basketball Under the Stars” event in late February. The streetlights provided the only illumination, but it was enough for some outstanding free-throw competitions and around the world. Not only was accuracy emphasized, but there was a time aspect as well. For example, how many free throws could a team make in one minute? Look for more events of this nature in the future. Semi-organized activities are held every Monday

You can check out a basketball at the front desk; however, please use the cones that are kept in the recycling area to block off the basketball area. The cones alert drivers that people are playing basketball and should be used as a safety precaution.

Carlos & Millie Gil (Bold Real Estate Group) were our east coast realtors during our three intensive searches in 2016. Coming from another state, we looked all over the west coast and the east coast of FL. We looked at all types of properties, including water-front, condos, and single-family residential.
Both Carlos & Millie were very patient, informative, communicated well both in person and electronically, and offered great suggestions and insight. They got to know us and helped us focus what we really wanted and could afford. Great people, excellent realtors! -Mr. G. Painter
