Reddish Stains on Your Concrete?

Tyler Heel Community Manager theel@ evergreen-LM.com 877-221-6919

Do you have reddish stains on your pavers and concrete? Are you tired of the eyesore? Have you tried removing the stains yourself, but without success? There’s good news and bad news. The good news is that the stains are removable and your pavers and concrete can look like new. The bad news is that the stain-removal requires commercial chemicals, which are not available to the average homeowner. It raises the stain removal from a do-it-yourself project to a job that requires the service of a professional exterior cleaning company. These stains usually come from 1 of 3 sources: • Fertilizers used by lawn-care companies. These contain iron. When fertilizer granules land on concrete or pavers and are allowed to sit, the iron leaches out and leaves a red or orange spot. • Reclaimed water, often used in irrigation. This also contains iron. If sprinklers overshoot landscaping and spray onto the sides of houses, or runoff water goes across sidewalks or curbs, red/orange stains are left behind. • Battery acid. When dripped onto pavers or concrete, this produces an orange flash burn that looks similar to rust stains. Golf carts sitting in driveways are often the culprits of flash burn stains. A professional exterior cleaning company will have the right chemical products to treat iron stains and flash burns and remove them almost completely. Typically, they can treat this kind of staining on concrete, brick, tile, stone, stucco, asphalt, vinyl, and rubber. When you call a cleaning company about treating your stains, there are four questions you should remember to ask: 1. Are they licensed and insured? 2. How do they treat red/orange stains? 3. Is a cleaning of the surrounding area included in the price? 4. Do they have references from past clients? You want to hear that they are licensed and insured. They should describe what produces

red/orange stains (this will show that they know what they’re talking about) and that they use a commercial product to remove the stains. And yes, they should clean the surrounding area as part of the price. Why is #3 important? Removing the stains will also clean the surface. If the rest of the surface (like a driveway, for example) is not cleaned, you will have a light area next to a dirty area, and it will look odd. The company should clean the rest of the surface (using whatever method is standard for them) so that the whole surface looks consistent at the end of the job. One last word: stain removal of this sort is not cheap, because the necessary products are not cheap. Expect to pay $0.50 to $1.50 per square foot, depending on the type, size, and scope of the stained area, and then an additional standard price for the finish clean of the surrounding area. Most power washing companies can take care of virtually any stain on concrete or pavers.

Know Your Documents 13.7 Drainage System. Once a drainage system or drainage facilities are installed by Developer, the maintenance of such system and/or facilities within the boundary of a Home thereafter shall be the responsibility of the Owner of the Home which includes such system and/or facilities. In the event that such system or facilities (whether comprised of swales, pipes, pumps, waterbody slopes, or other improvements) is adversely affected by landscaping, fences, structures, or additions, the cost to correct, repair, or maintain such drainage system and/or facilities shall be the responsibility of the Owner of each Home containing all or a part of such drainage system and\or facilities. By way of example, and not of limitation, if the Owner of one Home plants a tree (pursuant to ARC approval) and the roots of such tree subsequently affect pipes or other drainage facilities within another Home, the Owner that plants the tree shall be solely responsible for the removal of the roots that adversely affect the adjacent Home. Likewise, if the roots of a tree located within the Community Property adversely affect an adjacent Home, Association shall be responsible for the removal of the roots and the costs thereof shall be Association. out & about Fitness Classes Current class schedules are available in the lobby and on the website calendar at VitaliaAtTraditionHOA.com. All classes are held in the Shoreside Aerobics Studio, unless otherwise specified.

Abs & More! 30 minutes of abdominal exercise combined with 20 minutes of a different target area each week (i.e.: arms, legs, back). You know you need to exercise your belly, but usually avoid it. So come join this class and check it off of your “to do list.” Core abdominal strength is essential for balance, strength, posture, coordination, and directly supports lower back strength. Participants must be able to get up and down from the floor for this class.

Aquacise at Sunset Beach Pool An excellent cardio and strength workout for all levels by utilizing water weights, aqua gloves and noodles to achieve a very unique workout. Swimming is not required.

H20 Pilates at Sunset Beach Pool Non-impact strengthening and stretching movements that require precise breathing and muscle control. Practicing Pilates in the water develops trunk stabilization, enhances muscle strength, helps correct posture and relieves stress.

Line Dancing Line dance is a choreographed dance with a repeated sequence of steps in which a group of people dance in one or more lines or rows, all facing either each other or in the same direction, and executing the steps at the same time.

Pilates The content of each class is dictated by the bodies that attend it. Want to fix your sciatica; Scoliosis; or Stenosis? Don’t have any injuries and wanna keep it that way? Learn how to stack yourself with integrity (perfect posture) so you can build strength and power wherever you need it.

Step and Tone

Aqua Zumba at Sunset Beach Pool Get your ‘groove on’ as you burn calories with a complete, no-impact workout. This class is for all who enjoy having a blast while getting in an aqua-fantastic workout!

Core Strength A safe yet effective, non-impact exercise class designed to strengthen the CORE muscles of the body while increasing flexibility and range of motion. Improve strength, posture, balance and coordination. A strong foundation is a key component to prevent injury, reduce back pain and enhance your activities of daily living. Modifications will be given to ensure safety and to cater to all levels.

Group X Toning Take your workout to the next level. This class is designed to strengthen and sculpt every major muscle group utilizing hand weights and/or barbells and other equipment. Group exercise provides a motivating atmosphere that is conducive to working out! Any fitness level is welcome. 10   Vitalia Voice | January 2017

This is a form of aerobic power distinguished from other types of aerobic exercise by its use of an elevated platform (the step). It helps burn calories, reduce stress, promote restful sleep, and strengthen muscles. Incorporating both upper and lower body movements together will improve your coordination and agility, and the constant push up onto the step will increase leg strength.

Stretch Lengthen and strengthen your muscles, increase flexibility, reduce stress, and allow your body the time to relax and rebuild. Relieve joint pain, muscle soreness, and avoid injury. Stretching improves balance, posture and coordination, increases cardiovascular endurance, adds strength for daily activities, and prolongs life. Modifiers will be given for all levels - chairs can be used for assistance.

Zumba Incorporates Latin and international music and dance with a blended balance of cardio and muscle toning.

Zumba Gold Introduces easy-to-follow choreography focusing on balance, range of motion, and coordination. A modified Zumba class that recreates the original moves at a lower-intensity.

This month we’ll be discussing Glory over Everything: Beyond The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom. This new, stand-alone novel opens in 1830, and Jamie, who fled from the Virginian plantation he once called home, is passing in Philadelphia society as a wealthy white silversmith. After many years of striving, Jamie has achieved acclaim and security, only to discover that his aristocratic lover Caroline is pregnant. Before he can reveal his real identity to her, he learns that his beloved servant Pan has been captured and sold into slavery in the South. Meanwhile, Caroline’s father learns and exposes Jamie’s secret, and Jamie loses his home, his business, and finally Caroline. Heartbroken and with nothing to lose, Jamie embarks on a trip to a North Carolina plantation where Pan is being held with a former Tall Oakes slave named Sukey, who is intent on getting Pan to the Underground Railroad.

Sometimes some folks might think that there is a conflict between the parenthetical and the color-coding (that the color-coding conflicts with what it says in the parentheses). In such cases, you have to consider the parenthetical as being the final word. A typical example is when a quint hand is shown with a quint of a numbered suit tile, and a quint or kong of dragons in a different color - and the parenthetical says “any tile of any suit, plus any dragon.”

MALKA’S MAHJONG CORNER: ASK THE EXPERT Q: What does “any suit” mean when there are two colors? When there are three colors? A: Normally, if a hand is shown in two colors, the hand must be made in two suits (any two suits). When it’s shown in three colors (excepting flowers or winds), then the hand must be made in three suits, in any combination. All groups of one color must be the same suit (any same suit). The color-coding on the card cannot say it all in every case. So when the color-coding isn’t sufficient to explain the requirements of a particular hand, the card designer writes a parenthetical to give more information.
