Issue One
This is it, the first issue of the Overflow Photo Journal. It’s been a long journey to get to this point in time but it has definitely been worth it. Let me give you a bit of background about myself. My name is Mark Hunnisett. I’m 16 years old and based in Sydney, Australia. I started taking photos about 3 years ago at local beach breaks in 2ft swell with a waterproof Lumix. Since then I have worked my way up to much bigger swells and have had the opportunity to photograph some of my closest mates as well as a few pros. I love the vibe of big surf, when people are cheering other riders onto waves and then make sure they are all good when they face plant onto a reef. Ocean photography for me is about working really hard to get great shots and enjoying it at the same time. At the end of 2012 I photographed my first party. That kind of kicked off my career. I couldn’t believe people would actually ask me to take photos at parties, hang out, dance, meet new people and get paid for it. In just over a year I have been lucky enough to photograph at over 25 parties/formals. I decided to create this photo journal to showcase some of my best work and to generate a bit of hype for local photographers/bodyboarders/surfers. So get clicking and have flick through some of my work. It was a cold Friday afternoon in Cronulla. Declan, Nathan and I picked up our boards from his house and then caught the train to Cronulla. After surfing Shark Island for about an hour and a half we started to swim back into point. As we were paddling in a pod of dolphins started swimming around us. By the time we got to point it was almost completely dark and I took a couple of sunset shots. It will always be one of my most memorable surf sessions.
My partners in crime, Nathan and Declan

Nick my fellow adventurer. Nicholas amazes me with his incredible film photography skills and dedication. Every time I see him he has a camera ready to go in his car if it’s not already in his hand. Nick has played a significant role in my photography, he has always been there giving me new ideas and tips, not to mention all the places he drives me to. he is soon to publish a new page.

Up close and personal with Nathan Coves. We recorded this interview on a bus to school surfing. A few things you need to know about Nathan: all he does is talk about surfing, he’s that crazy Ranga in every school with the weird laugh that only dogs can hear. But we love him to bits because his style is fast and great to watch. Have a flick through the life of Covesy‌

a bus down to Cronulla and surf for a while loved the beach. My Dad drives us down to during school hours. The teachers even get involved with their long boards. In Greenhills most Saturday mornings in the the summer the waves are pretty small but it’s summer. 9 out of 10 spots that we camp at always worth a swim. During the winters of are on the beach as well. I probably started to boogie board around the age of 4 or 5. In school surfing over the years gave me the guts year 7 I bought my first set-up for $80. I had a and the experience to go out in most swells. School surfing has one of the best vibes. I have NMD Storm board and Stealth flippers. a great time teaching all the grommets to longboard. Sutherland shire public schools are great because most of them have surfing as a sport choice. This is probably the best thing about high school. Every Thursday afternoon I catch

That’s all folks… na not really just until I take some more half decent shots. I have just ordered a waterproof housing (underwater case for my DSLR) and am very excited to do some funky stuff with that. For the people that ask what gear I use my setup is as follows: • Canon 650d • Yunguno Speedlight external flash • Lumix ft4 • Wetsuit and flippers I’d likes to thank people who have driven me to beaches, parties and events countless times. I’d also like to thank my many surfing buddies from around the Shire and anyone one who poses for photos without complaining.
