Hurst Towing was leveled by a F3 Tornado last month, but they stand strong on the Rock!

Lynn worked for his father while in high school and drove a tow truck. However, it was the farthest thing from his mind going into towing as a career.

Lynn Hurst recalled the day his father told him they were going to look at a tow truck for sale. Lynn said he would never buy a tow truck but went along just to keep the peace. That truck was the start of Hurst Towing on January 16, 1987, but it was only a spark.

In early 2000 my Debbie told me, “I am going to start going to church.” Through her decision, I made up my mind I was going to go too - no matter what! Because of all this, I got saved, and so did my wife, my son, and my daughter.”

Lynn and his wife, Debbie, began doing missionary work in Nicaragua and questioned if that was where he belonged serving others. With Debbie being Lynn’s rock, she kept assuring him of who he was in God, and that God’s service could be done daily through his business in his own community. This was the turning point in his business, his growth, and his ability to relate and lead his employees, known to him as family!

The focus became less on the business, and more on what he could do with it to serve others going forward. “The tornado took our building, but our faith, growth, and employees’ needs are all standing on the Rock!”

In one fail swoop, 16 trucks were damaged or totaled. The building was leveled and his operator, Blake Whisonant, held on to the driveshaft of a vehicle with his arms and legs. The vehicle was moved over 15 ft. as the building collapsed onto the truck. Blake’s life was spared that evening by the hand of God as he came climbing out from under the building.

There were so many God moments after the tornado. Money, titles, and deposits were laying on the ground from where the desk was. “He knows our faith and our hearts. I believe He will build us back bigger and better than ever so we can continue to serve.”

A big shout out to Greg Hinds with Austin Hinds Wreckers. Greg picked up Lynn’s totaled truck, and left a brand new one saying, “We will settle it later; get your business back together.” The team at Miller had John Hawkins pick up Hurst Towing’s damaged rotator. They shut down all builds at the M100 plant and went to work on immediately repairing the rotator and getting it back on the road. These acts of kindness and service above and beyond is the difference between giving up and forging forward.

Thanks again Lynn Hurst! We wish you the best moving forward!
