BOSQUE DEL APACHE SAN ANTONIO, NEW MEXICO

The Bosque Del Apache is a National Wildlife refuge located south of San Antonio, New Mexico. The primary function of the park was to restore the wetland habitat that has been destroyed due to the channeling of the Rio Grande. Our task was to develop a concept that encompasses the characteristic of the site and use that as the conceptual underpinnings for a series of works.

PHOTO ESSAY Using a photo taken from the site this piece emulates an aggregation found in nature. The differnt levels of clarity give the viewer a sense of how the reeds conceal and reveal your view.

SITE ANALYSIS

During the 1950’s during the consruction of a water channel the qualaco puebo was discovered and later escavated by archiologists.

Qualaco Pueblo was inhabited during the 1500’s as part of the piro pueblo Native American tribe

CONCEPT MODEL BASSWOOD / ACRYLIC

This piece mimics the catail reeds that are found at the site. Frosted acrylic louvers are aggregated in the same pattern as the photo essay. This time looking three dimensionally the Aryclic opens and close diffent apatures within the model depending on your proximity.

UTOPIA ARCH 202 STUDIO

UTOPIA Based on Donald Judd’s’ vision for Marfa, Texas, a creative utopia for artist and designers, I designed an all-encompassing makers space at the gate of Nob Hill in Albuquerque, NM. This space houses a fabrication lab, both manual and digital, as well as an open studio space and a triple height gallery space.

ARTIST MODELS HAND POLISHED ALUMINUM / ACRYLIC

A series of three that is based on the core principals of american artsit Donald Judds’ works: materiality, reflection and proximity. As you change your spatial relationship with each piece the polished metal chenges the reflection of the acrylic.

LLATIONS

TEDxABQ WOMENS EVENT 2018 KIMO THEATRE, ALBUQUERQUE NM The Installations team was presented with the opportunity to design the stage for the TEDxABQ Women’s Event, a yearly event produced by TEDxABQ. We took the events graphics as a starting off point and used white tulle and powerful stage lights as our medium. We created a flowing orgic form that was intended to frame and create a dramatic backdrop for the speakers.

LIGHT PAVILION - SOMOS FESTIVAL DOWNTOWN ALBUQUERQUE NM The Gestalt theory emphasizes that the whole of anything is greater than the parts, even when all of the components are not evident, your mind fills in the missing pieces to create the understanding of the object as a whole. Light Pavilion .2 is meant to serve as the physical manifestation of that thought process. The user is encouraged to use the pressure sensitive tiles as the trigger to fill the space with constant light. When all users work together the entire structure will be illuminated and perceived as a whole, not its individual parts.

ELECTRIC

PLAYHOUSE

COLOR CHANGING SHELVES ROLE: LEAD DESIGNER - CO FABRICATOR ELECTRIC PLAYHOUSE - ALBUQUERQUE, NM These shelves are meant to serve the functional purposes while adding a pop of light and color. The unit is built from clear and frosted Plexiglas with LED light strips edge lighting to create a uniform glow on the horizontal pieces of the shelves. We utilized an Arduino controller to program the lights and change the color to customize to events etc.

THE TUNNEL ROLE: DESIGN CONSULTANT - WIRING DESIGNER - CO FABRICATOR ELECTRIC PLAYHOUSE - ALBUQUERQUE, NM The Tunnel is a portal that takes you from our physical world into the digital realm of the Electric Playhouse. Utilizing traditional elements of art like sculpture and form and blending them with over ten thousand individually addressable LED lights this piece creates a fusion of physical and digital that prepares you to enter into the landscape of technology. In this piece we created 25 custom “ribs” using CNC routing and other traditional fabrication techniques. We also inserted over 10,000 LED pixels that change colors to create animations flowing and pulsing thought the tunnel.
