NOTES
- Welcome to this evening’s matchup between your No. 3 Owens Express and the visiting Edison State Chargers. They have won seven straight. Owens, meanwhile, has won 17 straight to open the season and is averaging 107 PPG over the past three contests. In recent weeks, they have broken the following single game team records - most points, most points in a half, fewest points allowed, largest margin of victory, fewest fouls, free throw percentage and field goals made. - On top of that, the team broke the program’s record for longest regular season winning streak, which now sits at 31 dating back to Jan. 6 of last year. They have also won a record 38 straight regular season conference games, a streak that began 2-8-14. The last loss? 2-1-14. The team hasn’t lost a home conference game since 1-21-12. - Owens has now won its first 17 games by an average of 50.6 PPG. Furthermore, they have outscored their opponents by 860 points, which is 92 more than the total number of points they’ve allowed this year. They have not won a game by fewer than 22 points, and they are averaging 95.8 PPG, which is second in the nation. They have scored 100 or more points in three straight (never been done before in Owens WBB history) and seven overall this year - just two short of matching the single season record of nine set by last year’s team. In fact, Owens has also scored 100 or more points the past four times they’ve played Edison. - Owens is now 67-1 at home, which includes 18 straight wins, since February of 2012. - Owens is 32-15 all-time against Edison. They are 18-4 all-time at home in the series, and have won 20 of 25 games against them under head coach Mike Llanas. They have won the last eight in the series, and they have scored 104.5 PPG over the past four matchups.
- As a team, Owens is in the top 10 in the nation in the following statistical categories - points per game (2), blocks (5), assists (3), steals (7), rebounds (2), defensive rebounds (2), offensive rebounds (4), FT % (4), FT made (3), FG made (6) and FG % (6). - Despite the success, Owens remains the Rodney Dangerfield of NJCAA D-II WBB. They have been ranked No. 3 for all six national polls this year, while No. 2 Pima has remained ahead of them the whole time despite losing 3 times. No. 1 Kirkwood, meanwhile, has risen from No. 7 to jump Owens. - To view the schedule and results, along with links to recaps, photo albums and videos this year, visit OwensExpress.com and select women’s basketball from the sport dropdown.
