WELCOME
EXPRESS ATHLETICS FACILITIES STUDENT HEALTH AND ACTIVITIES CENTER

Opened in 2000, the Student Health and Activities Center is the focal point of the athletic program at Owens Community College.
The Express Softball Field, home of the 2011 National Runner-up Express, also has grandstand seating directly behind home plate for 500 fans. The outfield dimensions are a symmetrical 200 feet at the foul poles and straight-away center field. The Owens Community College grounds staff does an outstanding job of keeping the playing surface in top shape.
The complex, affectionately known as the SHAC, is one of the finest facilities at the two-year level in the country. The athletic offices are headquartered in the SHAC, which also includes the individual sport coaches’ offices and basketball/ volleyball arena. All student-athletes benefit from a training room, spacious locker rooms and first-rate fitness center, including free weights, machine weights and aerobics center as well as a running track. The SHAC’S multi-purpose intramural courts also are utilized for Express team and individual practices, converting to batting cages for baseball and softball; while also being used for indoor soccer training and the court sports for men’s and women’s basketball and women’s volleyball.
The Owens Soccer Field had been the home pitch of just the men’s soccer program until the women’s soccer program played its first official season in 2011. The Soccer Field has played host to a number of OCCAC and regional matches. All playing fields at the Express Outdoor Sports Complex feature Daktronics scoreboards.
The SHAC has played host to many high profile events, including most recently the 2011 NJCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball Championships.

EXPRESS OUTDOOR SPORTS COMPLEX
The Robert Bruce Harris-designed par-72 course is challenging but scenic, with huge greens, fairways lined with mature trees and shrubs, and six holes bordered by picturesque water hazards. The combination fulfills the claim by Harris that there would not be a dull hole on the course.
In nearby Perrysburg, the men’s golf team plays at Belmont Country Club, a private club that features one of the premier championship courses in Ohio.
The Express Outdoor Sports Complex is comprised of the Owens Baseball, Softball and Soccer Fields. The Baseball Field, with grandstand seating to hold 500, features the following dimensions: 320 feet down the left and right field lines, 365 feet in the power alleys in left- and right-center fields and a measurement of 390 feet to center field. The field has two batting cages. The latest improvements made to the Baseball Field began in 2011 with a new infield mix added and the rebuilding of the bullpen mounds. Owens baseball staff and administrators collaborated with the Toledo Mud Hens head grounds superintendent Jake Tyler and Owens Community College
A canny designer with more than 300 courses to his credit, Harris mixed the holes by length and character for player interest, while giving equal attention to landscaping details. Every hole provided its own vistas. Later, world-renowned golf course architect Arthur Hills helped Harris make alterations to the course, which measures nearly 7,000 yards for championship tournament play.

COACHING STAFF DEL YOUNG
HEAD COACH Season: 2nd College: Northwood University ‘04 E-mail: del_young@owens.edu Del Young is in his second season as the head coach of the Express baseball program.
Community Service Award, presented annually to the team with the highest level of community service. Young spent the prior four seasons coaching at Eastern Michigan University, starting as a second assistant in 2004 before being promoted to top assistant in the fall of 2006. In 2008, he helped the Eagles earn a NCAA Regional tournament berth after EMU won the Mid-American Conference tournament championship.
Young finished his first season at the helm with a 25-13 overall record and second in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC). During his first season, the Express started 8-0 and were also ranked as high as 13th in NJCAA Division II polls.
The Eagles won back-to-back MAC West Division titles during Young’s tenure, with Young mentoring primarily infielders and hitters. Eastern Michigan improved statistically in virtually every offensive category under his leadership, saving the best for his last season when the Eagles raised their batting average 24 points and scored 105 more runs, averaging nearly seven runs per game.
Under Young’s tutelage, four of his players were recognized and named to the All-OCCAC team. Additionally, freshman infielder Joe Sickler earned All-Region XII Team honors for the 2011 season. Young helped four of his sophomores in the 2011 recruiting class sign letters of intent to four-year programs at the NCAA Division II and NAIA levels to further their education and baseball careers.
In Young’s coaching career, he has coached 10 players that have signed contracts to play professionally, including former MAC Pitcher of the Year Jeff Fischer and CoSIDa Academic All-American Jeff Hehr, who were both drafted in the 2007 MLB Draft.
Young entered his first season as head coach for the Owens Express baseball program in the fall of 2010. He previously served as a NCAA Division I assistant coach for six-plus seasons at Oakland University and Eastern Michigan University.
The Bad Axe, Mich., native was a two-year baseball letter winner for Northwood University after playing his first two seasons collegiately at St. Clair County Community College. He earned a bachelor’s of business administration degree in Management from Northwood University in 2004 and a master’s degree in Sport Management from Eastern Michigan University in 2006.
At Oakland University, Young was recruiting coordinator and in his second season in 2010 helped the Golden Grizzlies to the Summit League tournament. Under his tutelage, catchers threw out 41 percent of would-be base stealers. In 2009, Young’s first year in Oakland, the Golden Grizzlies posted a record-high .960 fielding percentage while turning 57 double plays on their way to winning a school-record 22 games and setting 16 team or individual records in all.
Young and his wife, Jenni, reside in Belleville, Mich. Young is the nephew of Curt Young, the former Major League Baseball pitcher who is now pitching coach for the Oakland Athletics.
Oakland experienced success in the classroom too, as the 200809 team achieved a 3.07 grade-point average and received the

COACHING STAFF SCOTT TESLUCK
ASSISTANT COACH Season: 2nd College: Saginaw Valley State ‘05 E-mail: scott_tesluck@owens.edu Prior to coaching at Owens, Tesluck served as an assistant coach at Central Michigan University during the 2008 season. In addition to his duties as infield instructor and camp coordinator for the Chippewas, Tesluck also coached the Central Michigan Stars 18u summer team. The state runner-up Stars had 12 players move on to the collegiate level, including three Division I student-athletes.
Scott Tesluck enters his second season as assistant coach for the Express baseball program. Tesluck serves as lead hitting instructor, as well as handles all offensive responsibilities for the Express. In 38 games in 2011, the Express averaged 6.7 runs per game, hit .313 as a team and were 73 of 91 in stolen base attempts.
From 2005-2007, Tesluck was an assistant coach at Saginaw Nouvel Catholic Central High School in Saginaw, Mich., where he helped the Panthers to the 2005 state championship and 2007 state semifinals. In total, Tesluck has coached three Mr. Baseball’s in Michigan including Tyler Mills and William Arnold (Mt. Pleasant High School) in 2008 and Joel Seddon (St. Clair High School) in 2011.
For the past three years, Tesluck has been managing the East Coast Michigan 18u and 16u summer baseball programs out of the greater Port Huron, Mich., area. In its first season as 18u, 2011, all seniors received athletic scholarships while posting a 23-9 tournament record. The 2010 ECM 16u team captured the CABA National Championship. A year prior, ECM 15u defeated Puerto Rico in the USSSA World Series en route to a top 5 national ranking.
Tesluck played collegiately at St. Clair County Community College in Port Huron, Mich., and Saginaw Valley State University in University Center, Mich., from 2001-2005. The Detroit resident received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish/Kinesiology from Saginaw Valley State University.
JOHN PARISHO
ASSISTANT COACH Season: 1st College: Eastern Michigan University E-mail: john_parisho@owens.edu John Parisho is in first season as assistant coach with the Express baseball program.
He also has conducted numerous lessons with players that have gone on to play collegiate level baseball as recently as 2011 at Xavier University. He is proud to teach his students the fundamentals of the game and the ins and outs of baseball that he picked up from the great coaches he has worked with in his coaching career.
Parisho will coach the outfielders in his inaugural season. Prior to Owens, he was a part of the Eastern Michigan baseball program working under the direction of the hitting and pitching coaches. Parisho also helped with the scouting of opponents and made scouting reports for the outfielders.
While attending Dundee High School, Parisho was recruited by numerous college and universities, but injuries cut short his playing career. He posted a 2-0 record as a pitcher his senior year against the eventual state champions on the way to an 8-1 pitching record. He also hit .389 and led the Lenawee County Athletic Association in home runs. Parisho was named all-league and all-region as a pitcher and outfielder. He was a three-sport athlete and earned postseason honors in all three sports his senior year.
Parisho has spent time at Dundee High School as a varsity assistant coach where he learned from the experience and knowledge of Dan O’Brien, a former major league baseball pitcher and former Big Ten coach. While at Dundee, Parisho helped the program return to playing fundamental baseball and respectability after a few years of below-average play.
Originally from Dundee, Mich., Parisho now resides in Perrysburg with his wife, Angela. He is currently working toward a bachelor’s degree in business administration at Eastern Michigan University. 9

Prior to Owens: Louis comes to Owens after playing baseball and football at Parma Normandy. As a baseball player, he was First Team All-Northeast Ohio Conference as a senior and Honorable Mention All-NEO his junior year for coach Mike Louis. As a football player, he earned Honorable Mention All-Area his junior year. His greatest personal sports thrill was scoring his first touchdown in a game against Massillon on the road. Personal:

Sickler was named to the All-OCCAC and All-Region XII teams as a freshman after hitting .377 with 18 runs scored, 33 hits, two doubles, one triple, three home runs and 20 RBIs in 87 at-bats while starting 27 games and appearing in 29. Additionally, he slugged .596, walked 14 times, had a .459 on-base percentage, and stole 12 of 12 on the bases. Defensively, he had 43 putouts and 52 assists. Following the season, Sickler was also named the team’s co-outstanding offensive player.
Prior to Owens: Sickler was First Team All-Northern Lakes League, team MVP and First Team AllCounty his senior year, Second Team All-NLL and team MVP his junior year, and Honorable Mention All-NLL and the team’s Most Improved his sophomore year. He received the Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award while at BG. Personal:

Esposito went 3-1 with a 5.67 ERA last season. In nine appearances, eight of which were starts, he pitched 39.2 innings and allowed 37 hits, 30 runs, 25 earned runs and 24 walks, while striking out 39. He had a .242 batting average against. Following the season, he was honored as the team’s outstanding pitcher.
Prior to Owens: Esposito was a three-sport athlete (baseball, basketball and football) at Sandusky. He helped his baseball team win the Greater Buckeye Conference championship his junior and senior seasons while being named First Team All-GBC those two years, GBC Player of the Year his senior year, and First Team All-District 9 his junior and senior seasons. As a football player, he was the team’s offensive player of the year and helped his team win the GBC championship his senior year. His greatest personal sports thrill was hitting a walk-off home run to win a game against Marion his freshman year. Personal:

Heatherly hit .308 last year in 14 starts. In 39 at-bats, he scored 11 runs, had 12 hits, two doubles, three home runs and 12 RBIs. He slugged .590 and stole two bases, as well. Defensively, he had a .957 fielding percentage with only two errors while making 24 putouts and 21 assists. On the mound, Heatherly went 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA. In seven appearances and 9.1 innings pitched, he allowed 11 hits and seven earned runs while striking out 11.
Prior to Owens: Heatherly transferred to Owens after attending Saginaw Valley State University prior to his freshman season at Owens. He was a member of the baseball, hockey and tennis teams at Trenton. In baseball, he was All-Downriver League, All-District, All-State, and he was a member of the Dream Team. His team was regional runnerup, and he was team MVP. In hockey, he was part of the 25-1-4 state championship team in 2008. His greatest personal sports thrill was beating Midland in the state hockey championship and getting All-State honors in baseball. Personal:
Daniel is the son of David and Susan Heatherly. His uncles, John Lewis and Dave Lewis, played football at Central Michigan University, and another uncle, Phil Lewis, played baseball at Ferris State University. 12

Prior to Owens: Moore attended Des Moines Area C.C. in Iowa during the 2010 fall semester before transferring to become a member of the Express. At Southfield Lathrup, Moore was named Honorable Mention All-Oakland County honors as a senior and was a member of the All-Oakland Activities Association Red team his sophomore through senior seasons at Southfield-Lathrup. He slugged .429 and stole three bases in four attempts while starting 27 games. He appeared in 29 games overall and had a fielding percentage of .993 at first base. His batting average was second on the team last year and highest among this year’s returners. He only made one error with 140 putouts and nine assists. On the mound, Hotmer went 2-0 with a 1.98 ERA. He made six appearances with one start. In 13.2 innings pitched, he allowed 11 hits, three earned runs and four walks. Carrying a .229 batting average against, Hotmer struck out 13 and had the lowest ERA on the team.
Prior to Owens: Hotmer became a leader for Millbury Lake for coach Greg Wilker during his junior year when he helped lead his team to the district championship game. He beat some quality teams with his work on the mound, and he hit a couple home runs in a tournament game to defeat Lakota. He also led his team with six home runs his junior year. Overall, Hotmer was a member of the baseball, football and basketball teams at Lake. He was named Sentinel-Tribune player of the week (April 16, 2010), team MVP, Suburban Lakes League All-Academic and First Team All-SLL his senior year as a utility player, and Second Team All-SLL his junior year as a pitcher. Also, he was First Team All-Wood County in baseball and football, and he broke the school record with 15 home runs in his career. Hotmer’s greatest personal sports thrill was beating Tinora Fairview his junior year in the district semifinals by beating a pitcher who hadn’t lost throughout his high school career up to that point. 2011 SEASON IN REVIEW EXPRESS NARROWLY MISS OCCAC TITLE IN YOUNG’S DEBUT SEASON In Del Young’s first season as head coach, the Express finished 25-13 overall and 9-5 in the OCCAC in a spring plagued by rain. The Express finished the regular season with eight consecutive victories, including six straight in OCCAC play. But their 9-5 mark fell two games short of the 11-5 record set by Sinclair Community College and Owens ran out of days to make up games when the regular season concluded. In the NJCAA Division II Sub-Regional tournament, the Express lost back-to-back games to Cuyahoga Community College and Vincennes at home. To start the season, the Express the opened the season on an eight-game winning streak in Myrtle Beach, S.C., on their spring trip, but the rainy spring hurt the team’s consistency. One highlight of the season was Andy Joseph’s five inning, nine strikeout perfect game against Lorain County on May 1. Joe Sickler, Jesse Solomon, Blake Schmenk and Ryan Hotmer earned All-OCCAC honors, while Sickler added All-Region XII honors to his resume. Solomon was named the team’s MVP, while also sharing the team’s outstanding offensive award with Sickler. Freshman Zak Esposito was named the team’s outstanding pitching award.

EXPRESS BASEBALL CAMPS U.S. BASEBALL ACADEMY AT OWENS COMMUNITY COLLEGE U.S. Baseball Academy provides players in grades 1-2 with advanced hitting, pitching, catching and base running training programs and instruction. The national baseball training program is operated locally by Owens Express Head Coach Del Young. The player-to-coach ratio is kept small, at 6-to-1, so each player receives plenty of individual instruction in a small-group atmosphere. In addition to unbeatable instruction by the area’s best coaches, players receive all the fundamental teachings appropriate for their age level. ANNUAL HIGH SCHOOL PROSPECT CAMP High school juniors and seniors will receive a written evaluation by the Owens Community College baseball staff. Player evaluations will include speed, arm strength, defensive ability, bat-speed, overall hitting evaluation, and overall pitching evaluation.
Join Head Coach Del Young and the Express staff for the High School Prospect Camp at Owens Community College. The camp is intended for high school players who love the game of baseball and want to develop their abilities to the highest level. Many collegiate players have attended camps such as the High School Prospect Camp.
