An icon as an architect and industrial designer, Ron Arad has always ignored the notion of formal disciplines and boundaries. He is a creator in the purest sense, his portfolio of work is a testament to his creative genius and free spirit. He defines design as ‘the act of imposing one's will on materials to perform a function’. He is a constant innovator, questioning, challenging, rethinking and reinterpreting the objects that surround our lives. A flirtatious range including a decanter, jug and two glasses. The way the glass leans mirrors the way people bend closer to hear a conversation or whisper a secret. The shape of the glass also makes reference to the tipsy-like state a party engenders. Also note the upside down wine glasses. No need to waste time when moving from white to red; a twist of the wrist and one can proceed uninterrupted.

The glass has been delicately moulded with a series of dramatic intersecting perpendicular lines, creating a sense of depth and character. PIGMENTO PIGMENTO

Studio FormaFantasma emphasizes the manual genius and honors the traces left by the artisan’s hand during the crafting of its tableware. Pigmento reinterprets a traditional hand-making technique used to add hue to glass in the process of mouthblowing an object, an intuitive process that generates a different result every time. Through the milky material, amorphous accents of colourful pigments are blown, smoke-like, emphasising the serendipity and uniqueness of each piece.

A hand-blown dome of transparent glass, the Fromage makes a stunning table display. Sitting on a circular slate base, the glass is in the form of a giant teardrop allowing air to circulate around the contents. A small vent blown into the glass prevents food from ‘sweating’. As the domes are all handblown, not one of them is exactly the same.

The Olea range consists of two oil and vinegar pourers one with a pipette, one with a stopper and a small sauce jug, the latter designed with a soft lip at its brim. An amusing pair of matching water jugs with integrated mouth-blown glass cups in clear, green or dusty rose. The cups, decorated with a sleeping and blinking face, also work as a stopper, helping to keep the contents of the jug fresh.

This playful carafe and tumbler set wear their functionality as their decoration. Cuts made by hand, as well as hand-painting, in the neck indicate where to hold the object and help to increase one’s grip when it is heavy with liquid.

Exquisitely sculptured glass ornament designed by Istanbul-based Ali Bakova. Shaped as the top half of a human skull, the ornaments rest on a flat base.

Inspired by his Punk Rock roots, Erdem Akan has always been keen to mix the dramatic with the playful. While respecting the beautifully macabre aspect of the human skull, he chooses to place it on its side –as if sleeping–while at the same time making it useful. It’s a bold statement, full of wit and attitude. The skull acts as a bowl, and what you decide to put in it –a simple flower, coloured candies, pens and pencils– allows you to make your own statement about life… and death.

These three spherical-shaped vases are an homage to the planet Mars and its two moons. Mars, the fourth planet from the sun, has long captivated human imagination with its shades of steel blue dominating its landscape. These unique vases contribute to the planet's otherworldly beauty, reminding us of the wide diversity of colors and landscapes that exist beyond our own planet.

From the designer Tamer Nakışçı, this trio of vases are made in an extraordinary clear yet corrugated glass. The rippled effect creates an optical illusion reflecting the different colours of the contents in an almost magical way. Flowers particularly are beautifully presented in these vases, the undulation blurring the stems, bringing into focus the colour of the petals.

Like the inimitable French headgear, these lidded vessels are remarkable for their elegant, effortless simplicity. Lids crafted from silky-looking brass close over softly tinted glass containers –in three sizes– like the tasteful toppers of the Basques people, who originated the beret.

An extraordinary and original piece created by the Swiss-based and award-winning designer Tomas Kral. “The two parts of the lamp are assembled together by simple rubber bands which refer to the top of a hot-air balloon. This minimal connection creates a tension sufficient to maintain the stability of the lamp, and also allows quick disassembly for changing the bulb.” Light and airy, the lamp, though sturdy, seems to float.
