About Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development (AIGHD) The Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development is an independent foundation and a joint institute of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and Vrije University (VU). Launched in 2009, AIGHD was established as a collaboration between biomedical researchers, social scientists and economists at the Amsterdam University Medical Centers (AUMC), the UvA and the VU to combine research and education expertise in global health and development. AIGHD performs three core functions: • A platform for researchers to catalyze scientific excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and policy development within and across various faculties of the two Amsterdam universities. • A hub for education – at bachelors, masters, and PhD level – across various faculties of the two Amsterdam universities.

A support facility aimed at integrated management of research and education projects within low- and middle-income countries focused on global health and development.

AIGHD achieves its mission and vision by accelerating theory into practice. It is not only important to generate research in global health and development, but also to accelerate this research into policy at the local, national, and international levels.
The Role Role: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Location: Amsterdam, The Netherlands FTE: 0.6 Salary: Competitive
Overview AIGHD recently adjusted its governance structure and is now looking for a Chief Executive Officer (0.6 FTE, new role). The CEO will work in close collaboration with the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) and the Chief Operating Officer (COO) in the Executive Board (EB). The CEO leads the organisation to implement an ambitious strategy together with the AIGHD team.
This interesting and dynamic role is well positioned in an interdisciplinary organisation and structure. The position is a liaising and binding role between the AIGHD Executive and Supervisory Boards, academia, policy makers and the donor/ funding environment. The CEO has a sharp vision of the strategic goals of the organisation and represents AIGHD at various levels.
Job Summary The CEO is the figurehead of AIGHD. The ideal candidate is well respected and has a large strategic network in the field of global health and/or international development, preferably in policy. The CEO has an entrepreneurial and strategic view to improve the positioning and increase funding for AIGHD. Having roots in scientific research is preferable.

Responsibilities Joint Board Responsibilities: • Managing AIGHD, together with the COO and the CSO • Responsible for the design and implementation of AIGHD’s strategy • Responsible for preparing the annual budget • Responsible for preparing the annual accounts • Representing AIGHD within the Amsterdam universities • Representing AIGHD externally
How to Apply The CEO is specifically responsible for managing the following portfolios: • Network of private and public sector • Fundraising • Business development • Communication (internal and external) • Strategic plan and annual plans • Interaction with the Advisory Team • EB reporting to the Supervisory Board • Maintain administrative contacts with the faculties involved in AIGHD
