JOB SUMMARY WWF is looking for an experienced Director who will be responsible for guiding WWF when addressing possible human rights violations related to law enforcement so that access to remedy and justice are strengthened, and lessons learned so that any future human rights violations are prevented. Since WWF does not directly lead or engage in law enforcement activities in the places we operate, the Director must be able to deploy professional knowledge, experience, and judgement so that WWF’s influence, agency, and leverage with third parties can be maximised.

JOB DESCRIPTION & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES The Director of Ethical Law Enforcement will: • Ensure that WWF’s Core Standard for Ethical Law Enforcement is developed in a timely manner, that it is fit for purpose to protect nature while respecting human rights, is aligned to WWF’s over-arching policies and contributes to WWF’s vision and mission. • Facilitate the integration of the Core Standard for Ethical Law Enforcement into relevant processes across the Network. • Recommend measures that will help ensure that the network’s planned activities with respect to Ethical Law Enforcement are ambitious and clearly defined and costed and provide guidance for their effective implementation. • Understand and coordinate network activity around its support to law enforcement - jointly strategizing and planning with network colleagues to optimize opportunities for collective action and generally help to achieve coherence. • Follow and participate in contemporary best practice conversations on the human rights dimensions of conservation law enforcement. • Advise regional and national WWF Offices to improve performance and encourage coordinated and integrated strategies that deliver Ethical Law Enforcement. • Help the Secretariat monitor WWF’s law enforcement support work. • Establish a system that will monitor any complaints involving law enforcement activities that are supported by WWF so that the network can be confident that they have been investigated and resolved. • Develop and manage external relationships and represent WWF International to external partners and audiences as required and appropriate. • Undertake other tasks as requested and agreed with the Executive Director, Global Conservation from time to time.

PROFILE The Director of Ethical Law Enforcement should have a solid understanding of the human rights dimensions of law enforcement and be able to demonstrate how this can be included in policy and put into practice at operational (landscape) level. Requirements: • A Graduate degree and at least 10 years relevant experience. • Demonstrable expertise in the human rights dimensions of law enforcement, including a working knowledge of international human rights laws and standards. • Experience of (conservation) law enforcement in fragile and/or conflict contexts. • A comprehensive understanding of safeguards, standards and quality assurance. • Proven leadership and people development skills and experience. • Commitment to people-centred nature conservation. • Track record of working to the highest level of integrity and confidentiality. • Track record of managing multi-cultural stakeholders to influence and drive impact. • Evidence of critical and strategic thinking and target-based delivery. • Evidence of championing integration and innovation. • Excellent English language skills. • Deep passion for WWF’s, mission and embraces organizational values: Collaboration, Integrity, Respect, and Courage. • Adheres to WWF’s brand personality: Knowledgeable, Optimistic, Determined and Engaging. In addition, we welcome: • Fluency in French and/or Spanish. • A post-graduate degree in an appropriate subject. • A track record of delivering results in a large complex institution. • A strong background in human rights, environmental conservation and/or sustainable development. • Experience in bringing together geographically distributed teams in non-hierarchical structures. • Ability to develop a team-based environment to motivate and inspire colleagues to work collaboratively towards a shared vision and goal. • Excellent diplomatic and communication skills with an ability to communicate with impact and exert influence across a broad spectrum of audiences. © Green Renaissance / WWF-US


REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION:

A post-graduate degree in an appropriate subject.

EXPERIENCE:

Experience of (conservation) law enforcement in fragile and/or conflict contexts. Experience in bringing together geographically distributed teams in non-hierarchical structures.

MUST-HAVE:

Excellent diplomatic and communication skills with an ability to communicate with impact and exert influence across a broad spectrum of audiences.
