Nicole Young was hired by the city to be ARC’s director and is overseeing the shelter’s renovation as it adds an adoption center. ARC contracts with the City of Oxford to provide Animal Control Services within the Oxford City Limits, phone number 662-8321386.. Dog Licenses are available at ARC or from the Animal Control for $15 per tag for unaltered dogs and $5 for altered dogs. Animal Control Services are provided seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. For emergencies between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., contact the Oxford Police Department 662-232-2400 ARC has a small staff, but volunteers are encouraged. The Oxford Animal Resource Center a new animal shelter that provides temporary shelter to stray, abandoned and surrendered animals for the purpose of finding permanent suitable homes, to promote adoptions, to find foster homes and to organize transports to reputable animal shelters and rescue groups to help reduce excessive euthanasia with the goal of no-kill 90 percent live release rate, provide low cost spay/neuter services from participating veterinarians and the humane treatment of animals. The ARC replaced Mississippi Critterz in early 2021 as the city’s animal shelter. ArC currently only takes in animals from within the city limits of Oxford due to the city not having an agreement with Lafayette County.
