The Oxford English Centre was established in 1979. We are an independent school and not part of a chain. We offer high quality courses in magnificent premises, close to the centre of Oxford, an historic and world famous centre for learning where students have been coming to study for over 800 years. The Oxford English Centre is accredited by the British Council and is a member of English UK and IALC - your guarantees of quality. Last year we welcomed students from over 70 nationalities who benefited from our excellent facilities, imaginative social programme and our enthusiastic and experienced teaching staff. Above all, the Oxford English Centre is a friendly and caring school where students receive a lot of personal attention and where learning is enjoyable.

English for Law at Oxford English Centre Our courses are aimed at intermediate to advanced students who are currently employed (or seeking employment) in a position that requires Legal English skills or are studying Law at University. It would also be of interest to students who are interested in: • International Legal English Certificate (ILEC). • English in commercial law context. • The British legal system.

Aims, Outcomes and Benefits • Enable students to talk about Legal Systems. • Explain procedures and clarify information. • Improve speaking, presentation and negotiation skills. • Develop and improve usage of legal vocabulary and writing skills.

Course LG 20 lessons General English plus 10 lessons of specialised training for Legal English and the International Legal English Certificate (ILEC) Maximum class size 6 for the Legal English classes Available on specific dates – please refer to our dates and fees booklet The course will use an International Legal English textbook. Internet based exercises and video will also be used.

Examples of course content include: • British criminal and civil systems and court structure • Company Law case studies • Legal Contracts • Employment Law case studies • Preparation for the ILEC Examination ILEC is an examination from Cambridge University that is aimed at those who need to work in the international legal community. The ILEC topics taught on this course feature in one of our course books “International Legal English” published by Cambridge University Press.

Teaching and learning methods • The majority of the course will be taught through practical exercises, group and pair work in the classroom. The exercises in the classroom will provide ample opportunity for students to lead, contribute and take part in discussions. • Students will be encouraged to do preparation and self-study. • A visit to the local courts will also be included as part of the course.

Course B Specialised 1-1 tuition for Legal English. Our trainers will design a course to meet your exact needs. 15 – 40 individual lessons per week with a private tutor. Please refer to our dates and fees booklet for prices. This course is available every Monday It is also possible to combine 1-1 classes with group classes for Legal English.
