SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

May 2010

…to The Oxford English Centre! Here is the Social Activities Programme we’ve organised for you during your stay in Oxford.

In this booklet you will find details of all the activities planned for the time you are here. Please check in advance what you will be doing each day so you know where and when to meet and if you need to bring anything. The meeting place for all of your activities is Caramba Café or The Oxford English Centre back carpark. Please check carefully so you know where you should be meeting.

And finally… It is very important that you carry your STUDENT CARD/DRIVING LICENCE OR I.D. AT ALL TIMES. Without it, you may not be able to take part in some social activities. The weather and the programme may change. Keep checking the Social Activities Notice Boards!! More information about tours and activities is provided on the Activities board. Important: All students under 18 must return to their host families by 22.30

Saturday excursions… Saturday 1st May 2010 - STONEHENGE, SALISBURY & AVEBURY (£33) Stonehenge is Britain’s oldest monument, built over 5,000 years ago. Take your time to listen to its amazing story. Later, you will visit Salisbury with your guide and see the spectacular Cathedral. Then you will have plenty of time to explore the city. The magical journey ends in Avebury – like Stonehenge but bigger! Saturday 8th May - THE ISLE OF WIGHT (£37) You will take the boat and pass through lovely little seaside towns and lush countryside until you reach Shanklin. Here you will have plenty of time to swim, walk on the beach, and have lunch. The south of the island is famous for witches and smugglers and its unspoilt countryside! You will stop at Alim Bay where you can see the Needles and walk over the white cliffs. Finally, you will take the early evening boat back to England. Saturday 15th May – WALES (£31) You will visit the 800 year old ruins of Tintern Abbey in the beautiful Welsh borders that inspired poet William Wordsworth. When you arrive in Cardiff you will have lots of time to see the Castle, the free National Museum and to explore the largest shopping area in Wales. Includes entrance to Tintern Abbey. Saturday 22nd May – CAMBRIDGE (£30) You will hear the history of the University of the University that produced Darwin, Newton and DNA. You will also enter Kings College Chapel. You can spend your free time exploring the colleges, punting on the river, walking through the lovely meadows, shopping, or visiting the free Fitzwilliam Museum. Saturday 29th May – WARWICK & STRATFORD (£29) Warwick Castle is one of Britain’s most popular tourist destinations. You can see the models by Madam Tussauds, talk to the medieval nights, walk through the parks or go down to the horrible prison. You will also travel to the home of William Shakespeare and discover what life was like for one of the world’s greatest writers 400 years ago.
