SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

September 2010


…to The Oxford English Centre! Here is the Social Activities Programme we’ve organised for you during your stay in Oxford.

In this booklet you will find details of all the activities planned for the time you are here. Please check in advance what you will be doing each day so you know where and when to meet and if you need to bring anything. The meeting place for all of your activities is Caramba Café or Carfax tower. Please check carefully so you know where you should be meeting. And finally… It is very important that you carry your STUDENT CARD/DRIVING LICENCE OR I.D. AT ALL TIMES. Without it, you may not be able to take part in some social activities. The weather and the programme may change. Keep checking the Social Activities Notice Board!! More information about tours and activities is provided on the Activities board.

Important: All students under 18 must return to their host families by 22.30.

SATURDAY EXCURSIONS: SIGN UP WITH RACHEL IN THE OFFICE BEFORE WEDNESDAY!! LIMITED NUMBER OF SPACES AVAILABLE!! If you have any problems or questions, please see Rachel, our social activities organiser, she will be happy to help you!

FRIDAY 3rd AFTERNOON: Ashmolean Museum – Oxford’s famous

museum of Art and Archaeology

SATURDAY EXCURSIONS! Saturday 4th of September 2010: STRATFORD AND THE COTSWOLDS (£29.00)

You will start the day exploring the "magic" of the Cotswolds. You will visit the ghostly Minster Lovell Hall, The enchanting town of Burford, with its famous church, before entering the 4,000 Year Old Rollright Stone Circle. On the way into Stratford you will hear the story of Britain's greatest writer: William Shakespeare. On the coach tour you will see the River Avon, the theatres, and New Place before your free time begins… Saturday 11th of September 2010 THE ISLE OF WIGHT (£37.00) INCLUDES FERRY TRAVEL AND FULL DAY TOUR OF THE ISLAND

You will take the boat from Southampton across to Cowes on the north of the island. You will pass through lovely little seaside towns and lush countryside until you reach Shanklin. Here, you will have plenty of time to swim, walk on the beach, and have lunch. The south of the island is famous for witches and smugglers and its unspoilt countryside. You will stop at Alim Bay were you can see the Needles and walk over the white cliffs. Finally, you will take the early evening boat back to England.

Saturday 18th of September 2010: CAMBRIDGE (£31.00)

You will hear the history of the University that produced Darwin, Newton and DNA. You will also enter King’s College Chapel. You can spend your free time exploring colleges, punting on the river, walking through the lovely meadows, shopping, or visiting the free Fitzwilliam Museum. Saturday 25th of September 2010: LONDON HALF DAY TOUR (£20.00)

You will view Buckingham Palace, Clarence House, St James's Palace, St James's Park, The Mall, Whitehall, Big Ben, The Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, The Thames, Whitehall, Horse Guard's Parade, & Trafalgar Square before enjoying free time in England’s capital city!
