BANDIRMA PARK COMPETITION Design Team at Eray/Carbajo Role: Developed concept design proposals and Rhino modelling Drafting master plan,diagrams and visualisation

LOOP Urban Context Bandirma Park is one of the largest park development project within Marmara Basin, where nearly 20 Million people reside. With the undergoing transformation of the area with new transportation and logistics links, the city of Balikesir is becoming the new focal destination in between the country’s metropolis’ Istanbul, Kocaeli and Bursa Creating a Park within the city’s current re-planning, as the main catalyst of its future development, is representative of the well-informed and futuristic vision of the municipality. In line with this vision, proposed park design also known as LOOP will offer a 26 hectare vibrant generative landscape that will create a brand new, innovative identity for Bandirma while serving as a recreational center at regional scale. Based on Existing, Transforming the Future Flowing along the existing tree lines and the historical fabric, the proposal seeks to transform the flat and linear pedestrian experience into a three dimensional looping topography trail. This allows users to enjoy breathtaking views of the Marmara Sea and multiple levels of interaction within the colorful relationship of objects and pastoral landscape, indoor and outdoor. The LOOP redefines a walkable, cycle friendly core that is enriched with activities and functions. This allows to better control the extensive 26 hectare site making it a rich 10 hectare urban space and 16hectare of dense forest that will become the lungs of the future industrial city. The looped topography – the active green surface – is the home to various activities, such as eating, playing, designing, sleeping, etc. The proposed active green is the fundamental blueprint for the design of a self-sustaining future city. The relationship between the hardscape, the softscape, and the built is deliberately blurred, where interior and exterior blends into each other, thresholds melt, where the whole park feels open, publicly accessible and socially inclusive.

IZMIR TRANSPORTATION HUB COMPETITION Honorable Mention Design Team at Eray/Carbajo Role: Urban connection design Building and environmental diagrams

Eray Carbajo’s transportation hub design proposal integrates metro, fast train, tram, bus systems, car park, bicycle roads and pedestrian friendly modes in order to achieve faster urban interconnectivity between populated districts of İzmir. The project investigates the real boundaries of a city and interconnectivity of design. The proposal aims to blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoors spaces, and blends in the building structure with the plazas. alyzing user experience. The environment-friendly design ensures an integrating web between industrial and residential areas, with , the city center. The design blends and merges coastline, urban hubs, intercity connections and industrial districts. The landscraper is on a path of continuous change within it’s very form. Public parks and plazas aim to serve to all kinds of users; all Izmir urbanites and visitors, as well as, users with disabilities. The interlacing structure responds to the three different levels of elevation, providing opportunities for social-cultural interactions.

AIA NEW YORK URBAN DESIGN& PLANNING PROJECT MIDTOWN WEST CHARETTE WORKS MIDTOWN WEST CHARRETTE | Project NY The far west side of Midtown Manhattan (Midtown West) is undergoing an unprecedented growth in large-scale development. The resulting demand for increased services will have long-term effects on the urban infrastructure and quality of life of the area’s inhabitants, workers, and visitors. Hence, the neighborhood’s ability to adapt to these dramatic changes is challenged by the growing demands for a sustainable quality of life, from efficient mobility to pollution/noise mitigation, climate resilience and adequate community services. The aim of the Midtown West Charrette is to generate ideas that will lead to a conceptual planning framework and growth model for this rapidly changing district. The charrette will engage stakeholders and practitioners to evaluate urban design models, land use patterns, infrastructure frameworks, and building growth and suggest systematized paths of change. Results will be framed as a statement of context for future individual projects in the area. The Midtown West Charrette is the first in a series of events for the Project NY initiative, organized by the AIANY Planning and Urban Design Committee.
