We are in the month of December and our minds begin to prep for Christmas and making plans for the New Year! We spend so much time prepping for and worrying about what lies ahead that we often forget to enjoy the right now. I would like to take this time to encourage you to take time out of each day to reflect on God’s goodness and all He has done throughout the year. We must not take for granted that every breath that we take is NOT ours and tomorrow is not promised to us. But, today we do have! Glory to God! Furthermore, December means that we are coming upon another season but let’s not forget that we are still in the Fall season and enjoy that. As women of God we can get so caught up in hoping, wishing, and praying for particular seasons in our lives to just go away so that we can get to a season that is more blessed and desirable. What we fail to realize that every season has its place in our lives. We must learn to allow things to be pruned, to fall off, to be planted, to be watered, to grow and thrive in whatever season God has us in. It is all for the perfecting of our faith and character. Your Father wants you to come out as pure as gold! Enjoy your season and be blessed in it!

Most of us are already making commitments for the New Year. We make New Year resolutions and want a fresh new beginning. We make it a goal to do this for the whole following year. As a culture it seems we're obsessed with making New Year's resolutions, but we tend to break these commitments easily. For some of us those plans we made may help and motivate you to make some new changes in your life, but may I suggest not to wait, but start on those commitments now. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you day by day to help you make those changes so you won't have to wait until the New Year to start your commitments. Hold fast to God's word, promises, and walk by faith. Trust the Lord that he helps you right now to get started on those commitments. Every day you are given a brand new day rather that be in the New year or not. The Lord already knows what you need to accomplish in life and he controls how to use all of it in his plan for fulfilling his purposes for your life. Start now and see the Holy Spirit move in your life making those changes you ask through prayer. Have a blessed and wonderful New Year! May this scripture encourage you. The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning, great is your faithfulness. "The Lord is my portion, "says my soul, "therefore I will hope in him." Lamentations 3:22-24

Is Your “Service Engine” Light On? Merry Christmas! This “happy” time of year can be stressful! As Christians, sometimes we forget to do preventative maintenance on ourselves. We take necessary precautions on our cars, houses, gardens, and even our kids throughout the year. However, it is so easy to forget ourselves. I know this because it happens to me from time to time. I have allowed myself to get swallowed up by overwhelming emotions and situations, and I lose it. Losing it may result in not spending time with God, wanting to lie around all day neglecting daily tasks, sinking into a depression, and so on. What is so easy to forget during these episodes is that it’s all wrapped in self (better known as selfishness.) When your mind is on self, you can’t think about others. This is exactly what the devil wants. We must remember 1 Peter 5:8 (NIV) Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Is that someone going to be you? This is why preventative maintenance is so important because the devil is looking for someone to devour, destroy, and take down. Don’t let that be you this holiday season. Here are a few steps to prevent being one of Satan’s suckers: 1. Read your word! That’s the first thing that is so tempting to give up during hard times, but if you make deposits early, you’ll have something to withdraw from later. 2. Attend church! The purpose of church is to refill and be refreshed. Being dehydrated naturally is an awful feeling. Spiritual dehydration is just as bad if not worse. 3. Enjoy the simple things. Look around - do you have a roof over your head? Do you have lights? Do you have food to eat? Are your children being noisy and aggravating? That means their healthy and doing well. Take inventory of the good in your life because the devil is always ready to remind you of what you don’t have. 4. Surround yourself with good people who will notice a change in behavior and will snap you back to reality. A pity party really isn’t much of a party! Enjoy this holiday season. God is too good not to! Crystal Redfearn Miller with Able to See
Believe it or not, the holiday season is upon us. I know that some of you may be planning holiday parties, and with a long to-do list this time of year, party preparations can be overwhelming. Lucky for you, I have a solution. This year, skip the elaborate menu and have a hors d’oeouvres only party. Now, some of you may feel a sense of panic when it comes to figuring out how many hors d’oeuveres to prepare, but just follow the tips below, and you’ll be able to enjoy your party and your guests without spending all day in the kitchen.
A hors d’oeuvres should be a food item that can be consumed in 1 or 2 bites. For a 2 hour party prepare 20 bites of food per person. If you are having a crowd of 35 or less, plan on serving 4-5 different kinds of hors d’oeuvres. For 35-60 guests, plan for 7-9 different kinds of hors d’oeuvres. For 60 or more guests, you should have 9 or more different types of hors d’oeuvres. Kick up the flavor: this will make people feel more satisfied. Since the hors d’oeuvres will be replacing a full meal, remember to include a few sweet options.
Remember to provide a variety of foods to please everyone. That means something for the vegetarian as well as the meat eater. Having both hot and cold foods will also keep everyone nibbling happily. Happy Holidays and Bon Appetite! LaQuitea Vaughn with Visions by Vaughn
