LETTER FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

Dear Pace Family, I often hear the expression, “It takes a village.” As I reflect on Pace’s unprecedented achievements during the past year, I can take the familiar axiom a step further: Pace is the village. The incredible support, tireless volunteer hours and unwavering passion that you demonstrated last year surpassed any expectation. On the heels of completing the most successful capital campaign in Pace Academy history, we were still able to meet the school’s Annual Fund goal without a hitch, thanks to the culture of philanthropy that is so deeply rooted in our community. We dedicate this publication to you, our Pace family, in recognition of your support of Pace Academy during the 2013–2014 school year. Support ranged from the Annual Fund and the Georgia Private School Tax Credit to the Booster Club, Parents Club, Arts Alliance and Aim High—all facets of the Pace experience that would not exist without our family’s backing. Your generosity and commitment to this community sets our students apart from the rest. As we begin to settle into our new home, the Arthur M. Blank Family Upper School, and launch the innovative programs made possible by the Isdell Center for Global Leadership, I, like you, am full of anticipation! With world-class infrastructure, resources and educators at their fingertips, Pace students are more equipped than ever to gain the problem-solving skills, global education and social awareness that will serve them as tomorrow’s leaders. LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD

Dear Friends, On August 18, 2014, I joined many of you on campus to witness the official ribbon-cutting for the Arthur M. Blank Family Upper School—once a dream, for three years a journey and now a reality. Mission: Accomplished! As we walked together through the stunning halls of our new home, we saw, for the first time in the school’s history, an Upper School space truly representative of our exceptional faculty, students and programs—of Pace Academy’s standard of excellence. I have always thought that at Pace, there is a spot for every child—our children are nurtured and celebrated for their differences such that somehow, they all interact and get along. I see the greater Pace community in a similar light. When Pace parents, faculty, staff, grandparents, alumni, past parents and friends of the school identify a need, they join together to accomplish it. Each of us is woven into the fabric of this place, and every contribution of time or resources that we make is counted and significant. There is a spot for each of us at Pace. It has been a great honor to serve as chairman of the Board of Trustees for the past three years, and I thank you for allowing my term to end on an unbelievably high note. What a year we have had! We have much to celebrate as we launch the Isdell Center for Global Leadership, explore Pace’s new Woodruff Library and break in our newly-complete Athletics Complex. Fortunately, as the parent of one Pace alumnus and two current students, I will have a front-row seat for the exciting years to come. Please join me in taking a moment to celebrate a phenomenal year for our Pace family.

THE AIM HIGH CAMPAIGN On August 13, 2012, Pace Academy announced plans to build the Arthur M. Blank Family Upper School and launched its ambitious Aim High capital campaign. The goal was to raise $32 million for the new facility. Little did anyone know that Aim High, led by co-chairs Elizabeth Richards and Robert Sheft, would not only meet its goal in just one year’s time—but that thanks to campaign leadership and 1,300 gifts from individual donors, the campaign would exceed its goal by $3 million by the spring of 2014. Pace’s Board of Trustees chose to allocate the campaign surplus to the completion of the school’s satellite Athletics Complex, which allowed construction to begin on a new stadium. Pace parents and volunteers Leigh Draughon Walsh ’81 and Tim Walsh ’81 contributed to the campaign the largest alumni capital gift in Pace history, and Walsh Field is named in their honor. In August of 2014, the stadium and the state-of-the-art, 75,000-square-foot Upper School opened their doors for the first of many Pace back-to-school seasons. As we begin to create new memories in new spaces, we pause to express a tremendous Thank You to those who brought us here.

Dear Friends, If there is one message that you take away from the 2013–2014 Pace Academy Annual Report, I hope it is thank you. As a Pace parent, I have always known that this place is special; yet, year after year, the Pace community continues to amaze me by its generosity and enthusiasm. Not only did you exceed the fundraising goal for the new Arthur M. Blank Family Upper School, you surpassed our $1-million annual-giving goal as well. While you peruse the lists of names herein, be mindful of what we have been able to accomplish together in the past year. Each gift to the Annual Fund helps the school meet yearly expenses associated with our innovative learning programs, faculty salaries, arts and athletics, global leadership and financial aid. Through the vision and overwhelming generosity of the Blank, Garcia, Isdell and Walsh families, along with so many others, Pace’s offerings continue to go well beyond the basics of a Pre-First-through-12thgrade education. Some exciting highlights from the 2013–2014 annual-giving year include: • The Annual Fund secured $1,062,679 with 90 percent of parents participating and 100 percent of faculty, staff and Trustees giving. • The Tax Credit program raised more than $636,000 for need-based student financial aid. • The Pace Parents Club raised a record-breaking total of $578,000 at this year’s Auction and Gala, which was dedicated to retired Head of Lower School Anna Valerius (“Mrs. V”), the “Queen of the Knights.” • The Arts Alliance increased memberships for the second year in a row to support the visual and performing arts in all divisions of the school. • The Booster Club provided more than $175,000 to support Pace student-athletes in all divisions. I look forward to what the coming year of our united efforts will bring to this campus. THE 2013–2014 ANNUAL FUND Each gift from our family of parents, alumni, grandparents, faculty, staff and friends enhances the student experience and preserves the dynamic community life that defines Pace Academy. Collectively, on an annual basis, your charitable contributions to the Annual Fund support faculty salaries, program budgets, campus maintenance, financial aid and more—recurring expenses that would otherwise demand increased and taxable tuition rates. LETTER FROM THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT

Dear Friends, It was an exciting year for the Alumni Association and the Pace Academy community! The Alumni Association hosted a successful Homecoming and Reunion Weekend and kicked off a new tradition with Knight Cap, a springtime bourbon and wine tasting at the Chastain Horse Park. Over 125 alumni, spouses, administrators and faculty attended the event and raised more than $18,000 for the Alumni Fund. Thanks to all of the attendees and sponsors! We look forward to making the Knight Cap a highlight of the Alumni Association’s annual calendar. This fall the Pace community celebrated the completion of several exciting projects that received record alumni support during the 2013–2014 year. Alumni contributed more than $1 million to the Aim High campaign, and the Arthur M. Blank Family Upper School opened in August. In addition, Leigh Draughon Walsh ’81 and Tim Walsh ’81 made the largest alumni capital contribution in Pace history, which allowed for the completion of the Pace Academy Athletics Complex on Riverview Road. Walsh Field opened on August 28, 2014, just in time for the fall sports season. My sincere appreciation to all of the members of the Alumni Association Board, class delegates, our Homecoming and Reunion class committee members, event volunteers and alumni assembly speakers for their ongoing service to the Alumni Association. We could not achieve these victories without your help. I especially want to thank those who contributed to the Alumni Fund, supporting need-based student financial aid. This past year, annual giving from alumni surpassed $116,800. Your generosity, at any level, makes a significant impact on this community. The Alumni Scholar Award The 2014 Alumni Scholar Award was presented to Jack Spencer, a member of the Class of 2015. Jack has attended Pace Academy since first grade. A three-sport athlete and a bright student with a heart for service, Jack is described as a genuinely kind, cheerful and empathetic young man by faculty and peers. Jack is a member of Pace Academy Student Support, a group that mentors rising ninth-grade students to help ensure a smooth transition into high school. He is active in the Knights of the Round Table group, which organizes student support and cheering at Pace basketball games. Beyond his Pace activities, Jack has also worked with the Police Athletic League since 2009. Jack acts as a mentor to children served by the agency, and his presence serves as an inspiration for children who do not have many positive role models in their lives. Jack commits time during his summer months to volunteering in underserved communities via programs such as Recreation Experiences in Asheville, N.C., where he works with a team to repair the homes of the working poor. Jack’s compassion for these families and their children is deep, and he is motivated to continue to find ways to make a positive impact here in Atlanta by working with Pace’s Habitat for Humanity project.

Under the leadership of Class President Wylie Heiner, the Class of 2014 made a gift of $9,740 to Pace Academy to fund patio furniture for the new Upper School. Thirty years ago, Wylie’s father, Bo Heiner ’84, served as his own senior class president, making Wylie Pace’s first legacy class president.

THE PARENTS CLUB From the Fall Fair and the Auction to faculty breakfasts and holiday decorations, the Parents Club permeates every part of Pace Academy, and the 2013–2014 year was record breaking. Through its successful annual events, including the 2014 Auction and Gala dedicated to retired Head of Lower School Anna Valerius, the Parents Club’s army of volunteers raised a record $666,000 to fund requests from teachers and administrators. With the support of this fantastic group, Pace can provide items such as iPads, video equipment, global leadership opportunities, financial aid and interactive teaching tools. GEORGIA PRIVATE SCHOOL TAX CREDIT PROGRAM At Pace, we believe all students deserve an outstanding education regardless of a family’s financial situation. So, we take part in the Georgia Private School Tax Credit Program, which allows couples, individuals and businesses to reallocate a portion of their Georgia taxes to financial aid at independent schools of their choice. Funds are awarded to students matriculating to Pace from public schools or entering Pre-First or first grade and are assigned based on a family’s demonstrated financial need. In 2013, more than $635,000 was reallocated to allow high-achieving students to attend Pace Academy. One year later, the 2014 amount allocated through the Georgia Tax Credit Program exceeded $809,800.
