Entering her 17th season at the helm for the Setters, Head Coach Carrie Seymour is coming off a 2007-08 season that saw Pace win six of its final eight games to clinch the #8 seed in the Northeast-10 Tournament. The Setters fell to defending conference champs Southern Connecticut State University in the opening round of the conference tournament. Last season also featured a milestone victory for Coach Seymour as on February 23, 2008 against Le Moyne, she earned her 300th victory of her illustrious career. Seymour enters the year as Pace’s alltime victory leader with 301. In 16 years, Seymour has averaged 19 wins per season since beginning in 1992. On January 26, 2002, Seymour reached the 200-win mark with an 81-70 victory over Merrimack. To date, she is the fourth-fastest Division II women’s basketball coach to reach 100 victories, accomplishing the feat in 127 games. Well known for her ability to recruit quality student-athletes who graduate and go on to establish successful careers, Seymour has guided her teams to ten postseason appearances. The Setters have participated in seven NCAA Tournaments, highlighted by a trip to the Division II Elite Eight in 2000-01 and the Sweet Sixteen in 1993-94. 2007-08 SEASON REVIEW
Transfer Sheisha McCollum leads a talented incoming front court that also adds Brittany Shields and Maral Javadifar. McCollum is a reliable scorer in the post, who is quick and a strong rebounder.
The 2007-08 season saw the Setters win six of their final eight games to clinch the #8 seed in the Northeast10 Conference Tournament and host a first round game with defending conference champions Southern Connecticut State University. Pace would fall to Southern Connecticut 64-46 in the First Round of the NE10 Tournament. The team finished with an 11-17 overall record, while posting a 10-12 record in conference play. Head Coach Carrie Seymour earned her 300th career victory as the Setters defeated Le Moyne 7762 on February 23, 2008.
The Setters relied on their seniors along with underclassmen, who stepped in and provided immediate contributions to the team last season. Stephanie Klingele rewrote the Setter record book last season as she broke the school career three-point record on her way to finishing fifth all-time in school history in points scored. Klingele led the team with a 14.5 average and was second on the team with 46 trifectas. She ended her career with 1,411 points scored and is the all-time leader in threepointers with 229. Taylor Losey bounced back from a preseason injury, finishing second on the team in scoring with a 12.2 average and led the Setters with 49 triples last season. Stephanie Rossmy led the Setters in rebounding, averaging six per game, while adding nine points per contest. Newcomers Kristin Connolly and Lisa Welsome also saw significant action as freshman with Connolly starting all 28 games and Welsome starting nine. Welsome averaged nearly seven points per game, while Connolly chipped in six points. Connolly ended the season fourth on the freshman three-point list with 35, while Welsome connected on 33 trifectas, tying for fifth on the freshman record list. Pace graduated four players, three starters, from last year’s team, while returning seven players. Pace will add three true freshmen along with a graduate transfer student to this year’s squad. The Setters will depend on their youth with championship pedigree to carry a seniorless team. Despite the loss of Klingele, the Setters should have a balanced offensive attack with more consistent and reliable scorers. Coach Seymour will rely on one of her top recruiting classes along with her returning core players to power the Setters this season.
Shields is a solid ball handler, who can score inside the paint but also can go outside and shoot threepointers. The 2007-08 Westchester County high school player of the year comes to Pace with post season experience as she led her team to a New York State title as a senior last season. Shields is an all-around skilled player whose strong post presence will be a key for the Setters this season.
Sophomore Forward Kristin Connolly FRONT COURT
The Setters will have a plethora of versatility in their front court this season as three of Coach Seymour’s incoming players will see action in the paint. Returning to the Setter frontcourt is junior Taylor Losey, who was second on the team in scoring last season. Losey is a solid all-around player, who can shoot from the outside and also play in the post. She is a good ball handler and her versatility will be a contributing factor to the success of the team this season. Joining Losey is sophomore Kristin Connolly, who comes off a productive freshman season as she started in at 28 games last year. Connolly connected on 35 trifectas last season, finishing fourth in school history in freshman three-pointers. She gained a wealth of experience last season and is a viable threat to shoot from long range as well as the ability to score in the paint.
Brittany Huggins also returns to the Setter front court following a solid first collegiate season. She saw action in all 28 games for Pace, hitting 24 three-pointers and provided a consistent presence on the glass. Huggins is a versatile scorer inside the paint with the ability to step behind to three-point arc and provide a diverse threat. She had a good off-season and will look to provide the Setter lineup with a spark off the bench. The final returner to the Setter front court is Jackie Gogel, who saw limited action in 15 games last season. Gogel will add depth to the post position and see time off the bench to provide solid defense.
Javadifar is another good ball handler for a post player and is a solid rebounder. She comes to Pace following a career in a highly competitive high school league. Javadifar has incredible quickness for a post player and will be another consistent scorer and tough defender for Pace this season. BACK COURT
Junior Laura Mooney returns to the Setter back court this season and will see action at point guard. Mooney is a good floor leader and a tough competitor. She is a hardworker and a solid defender, who will play a key role in distributing the ball.
Sophomore Lisa Welsome will step into the starting shooting guard spot after a solid freshman season last year. Welsome is a good instinctive player, who has increased her shooting in the off-season. She is also an effective passer into the post and gained a wealth of experience as a freshman.
Sophomore Courtney Keegan joined the Setters as a mid-year transfer last season and saw limited action in five games. Keegan returns to the Setters in excellent shape and has had time to adapt to the Setter offensive system. She has consistent range from deep and will see plenty of action at shooting guard this season. The lone newcomer to the Setter backcourt is Carol Johnson, who will split playing time at point guard this season. She is a good passer and defender with excellent rebounding skills for a guard.

Pace University enters its 12th season as a member of the Northeast-10 Conference. The Northeast-10 is the fifth oldest conference in New England. It is older than the Division I Big East, America East and Northeast Conferences, as well as Division III leagues including the NEWMAC, Little East, Commonwealth Coast, Great Northeast and North Atlantic Conferences. The Northeast-10 Conference consists of 15 teams in which each team plays 22 regular season games against conference opponents. The top four teams earn a “bye” in the first round of the conference playoffs while the #5-#12 seeds compete in playin games to advance to the quarterfinals. The conference’s semifinals and championship game are played at the highest seed of the four semifinal teams. Pace University, American International College, Assumption College, Bentley University, Franklin Pierce University, LeMoyne College, UMass Lowell, Merrimack College, University of New Haven, St. Anselm College, St. Michael’s College, College of St. Rose, Southern Connecticut State University, Southern New University and Stonehill College make up the Northeast10 Conference. The 2001-02 season also marked the first time the
same player was named both the conference Player and Defensive Player of the Year - accomplished by Pace’s Wanda Maynard-Morris. The first NE-10 championship game was won by Bentley, 80-65, over Springfield College. Currently in its third decade, the Northeast-10 Conference has established itself as one of the premier all-around NCAA Division II conferences in the nation. The NE-10 is now the second largest Division II conference in the country and is comprised of 15 institutions, six from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, three each from New York and New Hampshire, and one each from Vermont, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Founded in 1980 as the Northeast-7, the charter members were American International College, Assumption College, Bentley College, Bryant College, the University of Hartford, Springfield College and Stonehill College. Saint Anselm was admitted to the conference in 1981 and Merrimack joined the fold in 1984, replacing Hartford, now a Division I institution. The conference expanded from eight to 10 teams with the addi-
tion of Quinnipiac and Saint Michael's in 1987. Springfield left the conference for Division III following the completion of the 1994-95 academic year. The conference returned to 10 teams in 1996-97 with the addition of Le Moyne College and then expanded to 11 in 1997-98 with the inclusion of Pace University. In 1998-99, the conference reverted to 10 schools when Quinnipiac shifted its programs to Division I. The NE-10 expanded to 15 institutions beginning with the 2000-01 academic year, however without changing its name. The five new institutions included: Franklin Pierce College (now University), UMass Lowell, Southern New Hampshire University (formerly New Hampshire College), College of Saint Rose and Southern Connecticut State University. In 2008-09, the NE-10 adds the University of New Haven to fold and loses Bryant University to Division I. The conference will expand once again in 2009-10 as Adelphi University will join as a full member. In addition, the Northeast10 Conference sponsors 20 championships including: men's and women's soccer, field hockey, volleyball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's cross country, golf, men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's and women's lacrosse, football and men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field.

THE PACE STORY: Pace is a university whose resources have played an essential role in the realization of individual dreams of achievement and whose mission is voiced in its motto: Opportunitas. Founded in 1906 by the Pace brothers as a business school for men and women who aspired to a better life, Pace Institute began its transformation into a modern university, with emphasis on the liberal arts and sciences, under Robert Pace 42 years later. With dynamic leadership and fiscally sound management, Pace has grown into one of the largest universities in New York State, with a multi-million dollar physical plant, an endowment of over $100 million and a reputation for excellent teaching and talented, ambitious graduates. Pace is a comprehensive university with five schools and one college that offers a wide range of academic and professional programs for a large, diverse population of more than 13,000 students in for-credit programs, and in affiliated offerings. Through its Lubin School of Business, Pace continues to build its reputation for excellence in business education. The Lienhard School of Nursing, the School of Law, the School of Education and the Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems are more recent responses to the needs of the New York City and Westchester communities for strong professional schools to prepare a well-educated workforce. The University's decision in 1948 to develop a college of arts and sciences as both an autonomous academic unit and a foundation for the undergraduate core curriculum has strengthened and enriched the educational experience of Pace students and provided an ongoing source of intellectual enrichment to the University. The Dyson College of Arts and Sciences is central to the intellectual life of Pace, to shaping academic priorities, and to providing ethical, humanistic and scientific principles upon which lives and careers are founded. At the heart of Pace's academic values is an historic commitment to excellence in teaching, as manifested by small classes, an emphasis on skill development and critical thinking, special tutoring and support services, and academic advising. Academic experiences at Pace emphasize teaching from both a practical and theoretical perspective, drawing upon the expertise of faculty who balance academic preparation with professional experience to bring a unique dynamic to the classroom. While the primary emphasis of the institution is on excellent teaching, the university supports and encourages scholarly activity to ensure the intellectual vitality of the faculty. While much of the work has had professional application, Pace particularly invites scholarship that directly relates to the classroom experience and involves students in the research process. Pace has always had a student-centered focus and is committed to providing access to those who range widely in age, ethnicity, socio-economic background and academic preparation. Increasing amounts of institutional financial aid to help students meet the growing costs of a private education; locations in New York City and Westchester County; evening, weekend and summer scheduling; and special counseling and academic support services are ways in which the university has sought to enhance the accessibility and opportunities of a Pace education. A significant tradition of Pace University is its strong relationship with business, civic and community organizations. Offering special programs and services to neighboring institutions and corporate partners, the university gains strength in return from these partnerships and derives benefits for its students from the networks these linkages provide. The future of Pace University will be shaped by its traditions and values as they respond to the current needs and expectations of today's students. Combining excellence in instruction with personal attention, Pace provides the virtues of the small arts and sciences college with the curricular richness, scholarly disposition and excellent professional programs of the research and comprehensive institution.
HISTORY OF PACE UNIVERSITY: Founded in 1906 by the Pace brothers, Homer and Charles, The Pace Institute was a business school for men and women who aspired to a better life. Homer and Charles Pace borrowed $600 to rent a classroom and office in the old Tribune building in lower Manhattan to teach 10 men and three women the principles of accounting and business law. That building once stood where the Pace Plaza building stands today. Two years later, because of the overwhelming success of the Pace School of Accountancy, the Pace brothers relocated classes to the nearby Hudson Terminal complex. Another move to the Transportation Building at 225 Broadway took place in 1927 in response to continued growth.
30
In 1948, Pace Institute was approved for college status by the New York Board of Regents. Academic expansion forced yet another move to 41 Park Row in 1951, and two years later Pace College received authorization from the State Education Department to grant the bachelor of arts degree. Classes began on the Pleasantville campus in 1963. The year before, the Marks Hall building was signed over to the College by Pace Trustee Wayne Marks, President of General Foods, and his wife, Helen. Soon after, Dyson Hall was constructed, named in honor of alumnus, Trustee and benefactor, Charles H. Dyson. Willcox Hall was named for Trustee and benefactor Byron Willcox.
In 1965, the Undergraduate School of Business Administration, the School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Education were established. The year following, the School of Nursing was founded and was later named after alumnus, Trustee and benefactor Gustav Lienhard. In December 1966, at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Civic Center building, Vice President Hubert Humphrey promised to teach at Pace and conducted a Scholar-in-Residence seminar at the New York City campus.
Finally, in 1973, the State Education Department approved Pace College's petition for university status. Two years later, the College of White Plains consolidated with Pace University, and the School of Law was established in 1976. The assets of Briarcliff College were acquired in 1977. In the years following, an international education center was opened by IBM Corporation, NYNEX opened a center and the Hastings Center moved its operations to the Briarcliff site. In 1983, the School of Computer Science and Information Systems was established as its own entity. In 1997, Pace purchased the World Trade Institute, a leading-edge provider of international training programs. Pace University today is a diverse institution with over 13,000 students. MISSION STATEMENT: Pace University is committed to providing the best possible private education to a diverse and talented student body at each Pace University location. The University’s continuous commitment to Opportunitas must be retained, strengthened and, when necessary, redefined in an uncertain world where many are excluded from the full benefits of higher education due to economic and social factors beyond their control. Pace’s sustained emphasis on excellence will be a constant, which will guide decision-making regarding academic programs and other endeavors. In a world of increasing interdependence, Pace must strengthen its international efforts and continue its significant investment in technology. In addition, the University’s commitment to self-evaluation and civic engagement must remain as major goals. All of this must be accomplished during a time of considerable economic change and in the context of strengthening Pace’s own financial base. 33
