HEAD COACH MIKE IEZZI

MIKE IEZZI Head Coach Head Coach Mike Iezzi enters his fifth season as the Setters' head coach after spending the six seasons as Pace's defensive coordinator. Iezzi also served as the team's linebackers coach during that time. Last season, Iezzi guided the Setters to one of its best seasons since 2001 as they posted a 4-6 record in 2008. Coach Iezzi’s recruiting efforts paid this past off season as the Setters brought in a number of Division I and Junior College transfers, particularly from Iona College and University of

Connecticut. This high-quality group of transfers coupled with a solid incoming freshman class and the returning core players from last season’s team, Coach Iezzi expects the Setters build off their four wins in 2008. In 2008, the Setters saw an overall improvement on both sides of the ball. Offensively, Pace dramatically improved from 2007, averaging 275 yards of total offense per game last year. On defense, the Setters continued to rank among the leaders in the Northeast-10 Conference, ranking fifth in total defense. Coach Iezzi’s defense also ranked four in tackles for loss and second in red zone defense in 2008. Coach Iezzi joined the Pace football staff in 1999 as the defensive coordinator following a one-year stint in the same role at St. Peter's College. Prior to working at St. Peter's, Iezzi spent seven years on the staff of Kean College (NJ). He began his coaching career in 1989 as Kean's outside linebacker coach and JV coach. He coached the defensive line in 1990 and the inside linebackers in 1991 before being named the defensive and recruiting coordinator in 1992. In 1995, he was promoted to the associate head coach. Iezzi earned a bachelor's degree in industrial technology from Kean College in 1988. He was an allconference linebacker for Kean, and was the team captain from 1985-1988. Mike and his wife Laurie reside in Ringwood, NJ with their daughter Sabrina and sons, Nick and Brandon.

THE COACHES CHRIS DAPOLITO Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator/ Quarterbacks Coach Coach Chris Dapolito returns for his second season as the Setters assistant head coach, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Dapolito served for two years as a playercoach for the Les Argonautes and Turku Trojan in the European Football League. In his role at both teams, he played the starting quarterback, while also serving as the offensive coordinator, assisting in play-calling during the game. Dapolito also played quarterback for Duke University from 2001-04, serving as a team captain. He graduated in May 2005 as a sociology major with a minor in history.

DON SPRAGAN Outside Linebackers Coach Coach Don Spragan enters his first year joining the Setters to coach the outside linebackers. Spragan comes to Pace after a playing career in the NFL from 1999-2008, playing for the Denver Broncos from 2001-04, and the Miami Dolphins from 2005-07. In 96 games played, Spragan totaled 189 tackles, nine fumble recoveries, and 3.5 sacks. Prior to the NFL, Spragan attended and played football at Stanford University from 1996-99, majoring in civil engineering. While at Stanford in 1998, Spragan was named to the First-team All Pac-10.

Coach Ken Sussman enters his first year at Pace as the defensive line coach.

Coach Coccaro enters his second season as the offensive line coach for the Setters.

In 2008 Sussman was a volunteer defensive line coach as Great Neck North High School. Prior to that, Sussman attended and played football Hofstra University from 2004-07 where he was named to the All-League team twice. Sussman majored in interdisciplinary studies while at Hofstra.

Coach Coccaro comes to Pace after a four-year career as an offensive lineman for Lackawanna College in Scranton, PA from 2002-04 and finished his career at Hofstra University from 200406. In 2007, Coach Coccaro was the offensive line coach at Williams Dickinson High School in Jersey City, NJ. Coach Coccaro received his Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Hofstra in December 2006 with a minor in Psychology.

THE COACHES MIKE CORONA Wide Receivers Coach Mike Corona enters his first season on Coach Iezzi’s staff as the wide receivers coach. Corona comes to Pace from nationally ranked El Camino College, where he spent the past spring working with the tight ends and wide receivers. Prior to El Camino, Corona was at West Los Angeles College where he spent two seasons on staff. He was the offensive line coach, strength and conditioning coach as well as the recruiting coordinator in 2007. The following year, he became the linebackers coach and ended his tenure at West LA as the running backs coach in the early spring of 2009. Prior to West Los Angeles, Corona worked as the varsity offensive line and run game coordinator as well as the head strength and conditioning coach for Inglewood High School in 2006. Corona received a dual Bachelor’s degree in History and Pre-Law from the University of Buffalo in 2004. At Buffalo, he played offensive line on the football team and was also on the wrestling team. Corona hails from Rochester, NY.

JUSTIN GRANDENETTI Running Backs/ Assistant Special Teams Coach Coach Justin Grandenetti enters his second season on the Setters coaching staff. Grandenetti will transition as the wide receivers coach for the Setters. He will also be assisting the coaching staff with film breakdown, recruiting and scouting the opposition. Coach Grandenetti was a volunteer coach for East Port South Manor in Long Island.

BRIAN SCHUSTER Inside Linebackers Coach Coach Brian Shuster enters his first year on the Pace coaching staff as the inside linebackers coach. Shuster played for the Setters and Coach Iezzi as a linebacker from 2005-08. Throughout Shuster’s career at Pace he totaled; 216 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, seven interceptions, seven sacks and three forced fumbles in 32 games played.

NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE Pace University enters its ninth season as a member of the Northeast-10 Football Conference after four years as an affiliate of the Eastern Football Conference. Pace was one of twelve charter members of the Eastern Football Conference, which was formed in 1997 for Division II non-scholarship programs from New England to New York. The Northeast-10 Football Conference consists of one 9-team standing in which each team plays eight regular season games against conference opponents. Pace University, American International College, Assumption College, Bentley University, Stonehill College, Southern Connecticut State University, St. Anselm College and Merrimack College make up the Northeast-10 Football Conference. This season, the University of New Haven will restart its football program becoming the ninth team in the conference. Last season, American International won the regular season title, going undefeated in conference play with a 7-0 record. Southern Connecticut finished in second place with a 6-1 record in conference play as both teams earned trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament. In the First Round of the NCAA tournament, the #3 seed American International lost 14-7 to the #6 seed Seton Hill, while the #5 seeded Southern Connecticut fell to #4 seed West Chester University 52-32. In 2002 and 1999, the NE-10/EFC saw one of its players place in the top three in voting for the nation's Division II Player of the Year. In 1999, the conference welcomed St. Anselm College, who revived its football program after nearly 60 years, and Bryant College to the conference. The University at Albany, which no longer participates in the conference, claimed the first two championships in 1997 and 1998, and AIC won back-to-back championships in 1999 and 2000 after losing in the title game two years in a row. Currently in its third decade, the 8

Northeast-10 Conference has established itself as one of the premier all-around NCAA Division II conferences in the nation. The NE-10 is now the second largest Division II conference in the country and is comprised of 15 institutions, six from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, three each from New York and New Hampshire, and one each from Vermont, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Founded in 1980 as the Northeast7, the charter members were American International College, Assumption College, Bentley College, Bryant College, the University of Hartford, Springfield College and Stonehill College. Saint Anselm was admitted to the conference in 1981 and Merrimack joined the fold in 1984, replacing Hartford, now a Division I institution. The conference expanded from eight to 10 teams with the addition of Quinnipiac and Saint Michael's in 1987. Springfield left the conference for Division III following the completion of the 1994-95 academic year. The conference returned to 10 teams in 1996-97 with the addition of Le Moyne College and then expanded to 11 in 1997-98 with the inclusion of Pace University. In 1998-99, the conference reverted to 10 schools when Quinnipiac shifted its programs to Division I. The NE-10 expanded to 15 institutions beginning with the 2000-01 academic year. The five new institutions included: Franklin Pierce College (now University), the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, Southern New Hampshire University (formerly New Hampshire College), The College of Saint Rose and Southern Connecticut State University. The conference added the University of New Haven for the 2008-09 year with Adelphi joining to fold in 2009-10, giving the NE-10 16 institutions this year. In addition, the Northeast-10 Conference sponsors 23 championships including: men's and women's soccer, field hockey, volleyball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's cross country, golf, men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's and women's lacrosse, football, and men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field. In 2003, the NE-10 added menâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s and womenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s swimming/diving and ice hockey to the championship slate.

2009 SEASON PREVIEW QUARTERBACK Senior Ray Gregg returns for a second season as the Settersâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; starting quarterback after an outstanding 2008 campaign. Gregg tossed for 1,560 yards on 136-for-246 passing with 11 touchdowns. He finished the season third in the Northeast-10 with 173 passing yards per game. Dean Trerotola also returns as a second backup quarterback after seeing action in four games last season. Trerotola tossed for 203 yards on 23for-48 passing with a pair of touchdowns. Red-Shirt freshman Joe Romanick adds solid depth to the position with his strong throwing arm, while newcomers Kevin Smolensky and Brian Mizerek round out the signal callers for the Setters. RUNNING BACKS The Setters return Nathaniel Ford as their starting running back following his best season in a Setter uniform. Ford averaged 81 yards per game, finishing with 816 and ranking third in the Northeast-10 Conference. Ford earned Second Team All-Conference Honors with his best game coming in the season finale as he rushed for 191 yards against Saint Anselm College. Ford is an excellent fit for the Setters West Coast offense as he has the ability to catch passes after totaling 17 receptions in 2008. Eshawn Armstrong returns as a solid #2 tail back after seeing limited action, rushing for 63 yards in three games last season. Armstrong will look to push for playing time in 2009 giving the Setters a solid rushing attack. Iona College transfers Desmond Hinds and Jason Washington, along with redshirt freshman Jurrell Hawkins and newcomer Robert Eversleigh gives Coach Iezzi a talented backfield that will vie for playing time this season. WIDE RECEIVER Coach Iezzi returns two of their three starters from a year ago as leading receiver Eric Ortega and Justin Polanis remain the top two targets for the Setters. Ortega led the Setters in 2008 with 33 receptions and 413 yards, while scoring five touchdowns. Polanis posted 25 catches for 266 yards last season. Ray Carrasco, Dominique West and Kyle Lotwich will push for playing time giving the Setters solid depth in the receiving corps. Coach Iezzi also added Iona College transfer Danroy Henry along with freshman Patrick Lupfer and Henry Burgos to the receiving group in the off season. TIGHT END Senior Tri-Captain Andrew Kulak returns for a third straight season as the Setters starting tight end after posting solid numbers in 2008. Last season, Kulak totaled 26 receptions for 304 yards and two touchdowns. Kulak was a 2008 Second Team All

NE-10 selection as well as a 2009 D2Football.com Preseason First Team NE-10 selection. Kulak will be backed up by sophomore Jake Parrott as well as newcomers Tom Moore, Cody Childs and Ryan Cuffe. OFFENSIVE LINE Coach Iezzi again returns the majority of starting linemen from the 2008 season, making the position one of the strongest on the field for the Setters. Senior and tri-team captain Ken Marcoux returns with a wealth of experience and will be looked on to be the leaders at his position. Juniors Colin Brady, Shaine Artis and Matthew Arciero return for their third season as the mainstays on the offensive line, giving this unit significant experience at a key position. Sophomore Lyndon Johnson along with red-shirt freshman William Woodard will also push for playing time this season. Coach Iezzi brought in a pair of top recruits for the future in Matthew Strizek and Maquan Adams. DEFENSIVE LINE The Setters rebuilt their defensive line in the off season following the loss of First Team All-Conference player Lee Robinson and three-year starter Matt West. Coach Iezzi brought in a veteran pair of linemen in Division I transfers Dwyane Jones and Tyrell Zimmerman. Jones comes to the Setters from Iona College, while Zimmerman joins the Setters from Northwestern State. Redshirt freshman Shkelzen Gecaj will join Jones and Zimmerman on the defensive line as the nose guard position. The Setters will have plenty of depth on the D-Line as Patrick Finnegan returns after recording 42 tackles, 10 for losses along with four sacks in 2008. Juniors Max Katzner and Charles Bachelder will transition to the line from linebacker this season. Last season, Katzner posted 13 tackles and one interception, while Bachelder totaled 20 tackles, six for losses and three sacks. The Setters will also have Felix Pagan along with Joe Graboff along with newcomers Drew Cashin and Stephan Ahart that will compete for playing time this season. LINEBACKER Coach Iezzi returns a solid group of linebackers in senior tri-captain Michael LaMonica along with junior Jonfrey Sanchez. LaMonica was fifth on the team in tackles last season with 65, while Sanchez posted 23 tackles. The Setters brought in Division I Transfer Andrew Lipski from Iona College, who led the Gaels last season with 127 tackles, 14 for losses along with a pair of interceptions. Graduate Ricky McCollum, who missed the 2008 season with a leg injury, will move to linebacker from the secondary this season. Junior Jesus Cardona returns after missing

part of last season with an injury. Cardona recorded 17 tackles and one interception in five games last season. Junior Rich Bonhomme also returns for the Setters and will push the playing time this season after posting 16 tackles in 2008. Newcomers Steve Alesi, Eliott Johnson, Thaddeus Kowal and Yves Delpeche give the Setters plenty of depth at the linebacker position. DEFENSIVE BACK NE-10 Second Team All-Conference and D2Football.com Preseason All NE10 selection Greg Brain returns to lead a talented group of defensive backs. Last season, Brain led the team with 76 tackles and three interceptions. He ranked tenth in the conference in tackles and was tied for eighth in interceptions. The Setters return John Induisi and Albert Walden from last season as both players saw action in all ten games in 2008. Induisi recorded 26 tackles and one interception, while Walden posted 27 tackles. Coach Iezzi brought in a pair of transfers from the University of Connecticut in Marvin Taylor and Glen Mourning. Both players are expected to see immediate playing time and contribute in the secondary. Red-shirt freshman Ruben Austin-Schmidt along with Mike Aydinian and Raphael Polonco will look to push the starters for playing time this season. SPECIAL TEAMS Sophomore Ali Mourtada returns as the primary punter and place kicker in 2009. Last season Mourtada averaged 34.8 yards per punt, while connecting on 6-of-11 field goals, good for a third place tie in the NE-10. Mourtada was also 24-for-27 on extra point attempts. The primary long snapper for the Setters will be Colin Brady. In the kick return game, Eric Ortega and Justin Polanis return as the primary kick returners for the Setters this season.

THE PACE STORY: Pace is a university whose resources have played an essential role in the realization of individual dreams of achievement and whose mission is voiced in its motto: Opportunitas. Founded in 1906 by the Pace brothers as a business school for men and women who aspired to a better life, Pace Institute began its transformation into a modern university, with emphasis on the liberal arts and sciences, under Robert Pace 42 years later. With dynamic leadership and fiscally sound management, Pace has grown into one of the largest universities in New York State, with a multi-million dollar physical plant, an endowment of over $100 million and a reputation for excellent teaching and talented, ambitious graduates. Pace is a comprehensive university with five schools and one college that offers a wide range of academic and professional programs for a large, diverse population of more than 13,000 students in for-credit programs, and in affiliated offerings. Through its Lubin School of Business, Pace continues to build its reputation for excellence in business education. The Lienhard School of Nursing, the School of Law, the School of Education and the Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems are more recent responses to the needs of the New York City and Westchester communities for strong professional schools to prepare a well-educated workforce. The University's decision in 1948 to develop a college of arts and sciences as both an autonomous academic unit and a foundation for the undergraduate core curriculum has strengthened and enriched the educational experience of Pace students and provided an ongoing source of intellectual enrichment to the University. The Dyson College of Arts and Sciences is central to the intellectual life of Pace, to shaping academic priorities, and to providing ethical, humanistic and scientific principles upon which lives and careers are founded. At the heart of Pace's academic values is an historic commitment to excellence in teaching, as manifested by small classes, an emphasis on skill development and critical thinking, special tutoring and support services, and academic advising. Academic experiences at Pace emphasize teaching from both a practical and theoretical perspective, drawing upon the expertise of faculty who balance academic preparation with professional experience to bring a unique dynamic to the classroom. While the primary emphasis of the institution is on excellent teaching, the university supports and encourages scholarly activity to ensure the intellectual vitality of the faculty. While much of the work has had professional application, Pace particularly invites scholarship that directly relates to the classroom experience and involves students in the research process. HISTORY OF PACE UNIVERSITY: Founded in 1906 by the Pace brothers, Homer and Charles, The Pace Institute was a business school for men and women who aspired to a better life. Homer and Charles Pace borrowed $600 to rent a classroom and office in the old Tribune building in lower Manhattan to teach 10 men and three women the principles of accounting and business law. That building once stood where the Pace Plaza building stands today.

Two years later, because of the overwhelming success of the Pace School of Accountancy, the Pace brothers relocated classes to the nearby Hudson Terminal complex. Another move to the Transportation Building at 225 Broadway took place in 1927 in response to continued growth. In 1948, Pace Institute was approved for college status by the New York Board of Regents. Academic expansion forced yet another move to 41 Park Row in 1951, and two years later Pace College received authorization from the State Education Department to grant the bachelor of arts degree. Classes began on the Pleasantville campus in 1963. The year before, the Marks Hall building was signed over to the College by Pace Trustee Wayne Marks, President of General Foods, and his wife, Helen. Soon after, Dyson Hall was constructed, named in honor of alumnus, Trustee and benefactor, Charles H. Dyson. Willcox Hall was named for Trustee and benefactor Byron Willcox. In 1965, the Undergraduate School of Business Administration, the School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Education were established. The year following, the School of Nursing was founded and was later named after alumnus, Trustee and benefactor Gustav Lienhard. In December 1966, at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Civic Center building, Vice President Hubert Humphrey promised to teach at Pace and conducted a Scholar-in-Residence seminar at the New York City campus. Finally, in 1973, the State Education Department approved Pace College's petition for university status. Two years later, the College of White Plains consolidated with Pace University, and the School of Law was established in 1976. The assets of Briarcliff College were acquired in 1977. In the years following, an international education center was opened by IBM Corporation, NYNEX opened a center and the Hastings Center moved its operations to the Briarcliff site. In 1983, the School of Computer Science and Information Systems was established as its own entity. In 1997, Pace purchased the World Trade Institute, a leading-edge provider of international training programs. Pace University today is a diverse institution with over 13,000 students. For 100 years, bright, motivated and talented men and women have walked out of Pace's many doors, degrees in hand, and have ventured into the world prepared for the challenges of each passing decade. Every year, curriculum offerings in schools and colleges are modified to meet the changing needs of ambitious and knowledgeable students. Throughout the years since 1906, Pace has grown along with the talents of those who comprise what is affectionately known as the "Pace community." Stephen J. Friedman became president of Pace University on June 4, 2007. Friedman is a former senior partner at Debevoise & Plimpton LLC, commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission, deputy assistant secretary of the Treasury, executive vice president at The Equitable Companies Incorporated and the E.F. Hutton Group Inc., and U.S. Supreme Court law clerk. He has been an active leader in the nonprofit world. Friedman served for three years as dean of Pace University School of Law prior to being named president by the Pace University Board of Trustees. During his tenure as dean, the Law School’s bar pass rate was the highest in more than a decade; the school’s national rankings improved; and in 2006 more than 91 percent of Pace Law School’s recent graduates reported full-time employment within nine months of graduation. Prior to becoming dean, Friedman was a senior partner at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, where he served as cochairman of the firm’s corporate department from 1993 to 2000. Before he rejoined Debevoise in 1993, Friedman was executive vice president and general counsel of The Equitable Companies Incorporated and its subsidiary, The Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States. Before joining Equitable in 1988, Friedman was executive vice president of the E.F. Hutton Group Inc. (1986–1988) and a partner at Debevoise.

Friedman also has served as a commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission (1980–1981), deputy assistant secretary of the Treasury for Capital Markets Policy (1978–1979), special assistant to the U.S. Maritime Administrator (1964–1965), and law clerk to Justice William J. Brennan Jr. of the United States Supreme Court (1963–1964). Friedman is chairman emeritus of American Ballet Theatre. He also serves as president and a trustee of the Practising Law Institute, chairman and trustee of the Asian University for Women Support Foundation, and he is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. In addition, Dean Friedman has served as chairman of the Overseas Development Council and chairman of the Securities Regulation Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and as a member of the ABA Special Committee on Lawyers’ Political Contributions. He has served as a board member of CCL Industries Inc., Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, ConRail, The National Association of Securities Dealers, the Chicago Board Options Exchange and Foundation, and United Way of New York City.

JOSEPH O’DONNELL Director of Athletics Joe O’Donnell enters his 13th year at Pace as the University’s Director of Athletics. O’Donnell’s responsibilities include the overall management and operation of Pace University’s Division II athletics program that hosts 21 intercollegiate sports. O’Donnell also oversees the intramural and recreational programs on the University’s Pleasantville and Manhattan campuses. During his time at Pace O’Donnell has overseen the renovation of Howard Johnson Hall on Pace’s Briarcliff campus, which hosts several coaches, meeting rooms, locker rooms and a training room. In addition, Pace also opened the Ann & Alfred Goldstein Health, Fitness & Recreation Center. O’Donnell is also responsible for the initiation of the Pace Athletic Hall of Fame and Setter Club booster organization.

Prior to Pace, O’Donnell held the postion of Director of Athletics at The American University in Washington, D.C. and Assistant Athletic Director at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas and LaSalle University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He has also worked for the Department of Recreation in Philadelphia and was a varsity soccer coach and social studies teacher at Father Judge High School in Philadelphia. O’Donnell currently resides in Ossining, NY with his wife Marie.

GOLDSTEIN FITNESS CENTER

The Ann & Alfred Goldstein Health, Fitness and Recreation Center is home to the Pace University women's basketball team. The beautiful facility boasts a 2,400-seat arena, eight-lane swimming pool, state-of-the-art fitness/weight room, aerobics room, walking/jogging track, training facility, concession stand, VIP room, equipment room, locker rooms, scoreboards and message center, athletics department offices and offices of the university's health care unit. The Goldstein Athletics Center contains 75,000square feet of space that is home to the Pace volleyball team, men's and women's basketball and swimming and diving teams. The facility gives Pace students an opportunity to compete in intramurals and recreation, aerobics and dance classes in addition to varsity sports.
