NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE Pace University enters its tenth season as a member of the Northeast10 Football Conference after four years as an affiliate of the Eastern Football Conference. Pace was one of twelve charter members of the Eastern Football Conference, which was formed in 1997 for Division II nonscholarship programs from New England to New York. The Northeast-10 Football Conference consists of one 9-team standing in which each team plays eight regular season games against conference opponents. Pace University, American International College, Assumption College, Bentley University, the University of New Haven, Merrimack College, Stonehill College, Southern Connecticut State University, and St. Anselm College make up the Northeast-10 Football Conference. Last season, Bentley, Merrimack and Southern Connecticut finished in a three-way tie for the conference title with identical 6-2 records in NE-10 play. Bentley finished 8-2 overall, while Merrimack was 7-3 and Southern Connecticut posted a 6-4 record. In 2002 and 1999, the NE-10/EFC saw one of its players place in the top three in voting for the nation's Division II Player of the Year. In 1999, the conference welcomed St. Anselm College, who revived its football program after nearly 60 years, and Bryant College to the conference. The University at Albany, which no longer participates in the conference, claimed the first two championships in 1997 and 1998, and AIC won back-to-back championships in 1999 and 2000 after losing in the title game two years in a row. Currently in its third decade, the Northeast-10 Conference has established itself as one of the premier all-around NCAA Division II conferences in the nation. The NE-10 is now the 8

second largest Division II conference in the country and is comprised of 15 institutions, six from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, three each from New York and New Hampshire, and one each from Vermont, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Founded in 1980 as the Northeast-7, the charter members were American International College, Assumption College, Bentley College, Bryant College, the University of Hartford, Springfield College and Stonehill College. Saint Anselm was admitted to the conference in 1981 and Merrimack joined the fold in 1984, replacing Hartford, now a Division I institution. The conference expanded from eight to 10 teams with the addition of Quinnipiac and Saint Michael's in 1987. Springfield left the conference for Division III following the completion of the 1994-95 academic year. The conference returned to 10 teams in 1996-97 with the addition of Le Moyne College and then expanded to 11 in 1997-98 with the inclusion of Pace University. In 1998-99, the conference reverted to 10 schools when Quinnipiac shifted its programs to Division I. The NE-10 expanded to 15 institutions beginning with the 2000-01 academic year. The five new institutions included: Franklin Pierce College (now University), the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, Southern New Hampshire University (formerly New Hampshire College), The College of Saint Rose and Southern Connecticut State University. The conference added the University of New Haven for the 2008-09 year with Adelphi joining to fold in 2009-10, giving the NE-10 16 institutions this year. In addition, the Northeast-10 Conference sponsors 23 championships including: men's and women's soccer, field hockey, volleyball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's cross country, golf, men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's and women's lacrosse, football, and men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field. In 2003, the NE-10 added men’s and women’s swimming/diving and ice hockey to the championship slate.

2010 SEASON PREVIEW QUARTERBACK Junior Joe Romanick returns to lead the Setters’ signal callers this season after playing in eight games last year. Romanick tossed for 858 yards on 74for-140 passing, including four touchdowns. He will use his athleticism and experience to lead a solid offensive scheme this season. Coach Dapolito brought in a pair of solid freshman to back up Romanick as Ryan Kasdorf and Jordan Raynor will give Pace solid depth at quarterback. Kasdorf comes to Pace from California, where he was named the Gatorade State Player of Year as a junior and is an intelligent player who understands the game. Raynor is a great athlete and his versatility will allow him to see success in the future. RUNNING BACKS The Setters return a solid back field as Jurrell Hawkins enters the season as the starter after red-shirting last year. Hawkins is an all-around back with the ability to catch passes out of the back field. Joining Hawkins at running back are senior Jason Washington and Chris Perugini. Washington is in his second season with the Setters after transferring from Iona College In 2009, he rushed for 406 yards on 108 carries, scoring five touchdowns, while catching 12 passes for 109 yards. Perugini brings explosive speed to the position and along with Washington have big-play ability. The Setters also return Eric Santos and Jadiel Javier to the full back position this season. Santos sat out the 2009 season but in 2008 played in eight games as a key blocker for the Setters’ running back. Javier caught five passes for 53 yards last year and will see action in the running game this year also. WIDE RECEIVER Coach Dapolito returns a talented group of receivers as senior Eric Ortega led the Setters in receiving yards with 483 on 29 receptions and a team-best four touchdowns. Desmond Hinds played in seven games last year, totaling 10 receptions for 126 yards and one touchdown. Ortega is an all-around solid receiver, while Hinds’ breakaway speed should give the Setters balance. NE-10 All-Rookie selection Patrick Lupfer also returns to the Pace receiving core after posting 10 catches for 170 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Pace has good depth at receiver as Dominique West will look to take advantage of his size to be a solid target for the Setters. Ray Carrasco is a physical receiver who will also push for playing time this season. TIGHT END

The Setters will look to overcome the loss of All-Conference and All-Region selection Andrew Kulak as junior Jake Parrott will look to step into a starting role this season. Parrott is a dependable receiver and will look to build on his five receptions for 49 yards last season. Eliott Johnson will play in a reserve role to Parrott as he is a twosport athlete, playing baseball in the spring. Johnson is a physical player with good receiving skills, giving Coach Dapolito good depth at tight end. Ryan Cuff returns to the Setters, while transfer Arvin Rai will look to vie for playing time this season. OFFENSIVE LINE Coach Dapolito returns an experienced offensive line as four of the five starters are back in the lineup this season. The left side of the line returns a pair of seniors as Matt Arciero and Nick Smith have started the last two years on the line. Sophomore Matt Strizak returns as the starting center after starting nine games as a freshman last season. On the right side, Shaine Artis comes back to the Setters’ lineup as the right tackle after starting the last two seasons. Junior William Woodard will step into a starting role at right guard replacing NE-10 All-Conference selection Kenneth Marcoux. The Setters have a solid group of reserves as Gabriel Silva, Lyndon Johnson, Jose Zelaya, Angelo Pozzuto and Drew Cashin all return and will be expected to push for playing time this season. DEFENSIVE LINE The Setters return a pair of solid seniors at defensive end in Charles Bachelder and Patrick Finnegan. Bachelder totaled 27 tackles last season with three sacks, while Finnegan recorded 25 tackles and tied for the team lead with five sacks. In the middle, Max Katzner makes the move to the tackle position after playing linebacker last season. Katzner posted 16 tackles and one sack last season. Joining Katzner at the tackle spot is Joseph Fasano, who played in six games totaling six tackles last season. Senior Jesus Cardona makes the move from linebacker to provide depth on the defensive line this season. Cardona totaled five tackles in eight games played last year. Coach Dapolito brought in some solid freshman in Obi Onejeme, Bujar Celaj, Mason Pau’u and Jahari Hyacinth along with Daniel Pena to compete for playing time this season.

the Setters. Sanchez will look to play a key role as one of the starting outside linebackers and be one of the leaders on defense. Senior Yves Delpeche will look to step into a starting role at the other outside linebacker position after posting 12 tackles in eight games last season for Pace. In the middle, sophomore Sean Bostic-Sealy steps into a starting role for the Setters after sitting out last year via the redshirt. In the supporting role, junior Vince Romano will bring a high energy and a positive attitude to the defense, while Thaddeus Kowal and Steve Alesi will push for playing time for Pace this season. DEFENSIVE BACK The Setters will be experienced and deep in the defensive back field as Iona College transfer Joseph Garcia will be one of the starting cornerbacks this season. Garcia totaled 96 tackles and two interceptions in three seasons with the Gaels. DJ Henry will make the switch from offense to starting cornerback this year and will bring his athleticism and ball skills to the Setter defense. In the safety positions, returner David Lopez is the Setters’ top defender and will look to build on his 48 tackles and two blocked kicks from last season. Transfer Duvall Zimmerman will start at strong safety and be an aggressive defender for Pace. Graduate Dan Parker will look to bounce back from an injury last season and push for playing time in the defensive backfield, while Raphael Polonco will play a key role on defense. Junior Victor Macaluso is growing into the position and will look to push for playing time this season. Byron Reid is one of the most improved players from the spring and will also see action on defense. SPECIAL TEAMS Junior Ali Mourtada battled injuries last season, playing in only four games but was effective as he was a perfect 4-for-4 in extra points. Mourtada also connected on his lone field goal attempt, hitting a 37-yard field goal against Southern Connecticut and will continue as the primary place kicker this season. Freshman Jordan Raynor will step in as the primary punter this season for the Setters, while also serving as one of the quarterbacks for Coach Dapolito. In the kick return game, Eric Ortega remains as the #1 punt returner, while Jason Washington and Chris Perugini will serve at the kickoff returners this season.

LINEBACKER Coach Dapolito returns a solid core of linebackers led by senior Jonfrey Sanchez. Last season, Sanchez was second on the team with 72 tackles, while recording three interceptions for

THE PACE STORY: Pace is a university whose resources have played an essential role in the realization of individual dreams of achievement and whose mission is voiced in its motto: Opportunitas. Founded in 1906 by the Pace brothers as a business school for men and women who aspired to a better life, Pace Institute began its transformation into a modern university, with emphasis on the liberal arts and sciences, under Robert Pace 42 years later. With dynamic leadership and fiscally sound management, Pace has grown into one of the largest universities in New York State, with a multi-million dollar physical plant, an endowment of over $100 million and a reputation for excellent teaching and talented, ambitious graduates. Pace is a comprehensive university with five schools and one college that offers a wide range of academic and professional programs for a large, diverse population of more than 13,000 students in for-credit programs, and in affiliated offerings. Through its Lubin School of Business, Pace continues to build its reputation for excellence in business education. The Lienhard School of Nursing, the School of Law, the School of Education and the Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems are more recent responses to the needs of the New York City and Westchester communities for strong professional schools to prepare a well-educated workforce. The University's decision in 1948 to develop a college of arts and sciences as both an autonomous academic unit and a foundation for the undergraduate core curriculum has strengthened and enriched the educational experience of Pace students and provided an ongoing source of intellectual enrichment to the University. The Dyson College of Arts and Sciences is central to the intellectual life of Pace, to shaping academic priorities, and to providing ethical, humanistic and scientific principles upon which lives and careers are founded. At the heart of Pace's academic values is an historic commitment to excellence in teaching, as manifested by small classes, an emphasis on skill development and critical thinking, special tutoring and support services, and academic advising. Academic experiences at Pace emphasize teaching from both a practical and theoretical perspective, drawing upon the expertise of faculty who balance academic preparation with professional experience to bring a unique dynamic to the classroom. While the primary emphasis of the institution is on excellent teaching, the university supports and encourages scholarly activity to ensure the intellectual vitality of the faculty. While much of the work has had professional application, Pace particularly invites scholarship that directly relates to the classroom experience and involves students in the research process. Pace has always had a student-centered focus and is committed to providing access to those who range widely in age, ethnicity, socio-economic background and academic preparation. Increasing amounts of institutional financial aid to help students meet the growing costs of a private education; locations in New York City and Westchester County; evening, weekend and summer scheduling; and special counseling and academic support services are ways in which the university has sought to enhance the accessibility and opportunities of a Pace education. A significant tradition of Pace University is its strong relationship with business, civic and community organizations. Offering special programs and services to neighboring institutions and corporate partners, the university gains strength in return from these partnerships and derives benefits for its students from the networks these linkages provide. The future of Pace University will be shaped by its traditions and values as they respond to the current needs and expectations of today's students. Combining excellence in instruction with personal attention, Pace provides the virtues of the small arts and sciences college with the curricular richness, scholarly disposition and excellent professional programs of the research and comprehensive institution.

HISTORY OF PACE UNIVERSITY: Founded in 1906 by the Pace brothers, Homer and Charles, The Pace Institute was a business school for men and women who aspired to a better life. Homer and Charles Pace borrowed $600 to rent a classroom and office in the old Tribune building in lower Manhattan to teach 10 men and three women the principles of accounting and business law. That building once stood where the Pace Plaza building stands today.

Two years later, because of the overwhelming success of the Pace School of Accountancy, the Pace brothers relocated classes to the nearby Hudson Terminal complex. Another move to the Transportation Building at 225 Broadway took place in 1927 in response to continued growth. In 1948, Pace Institute was approved for college status by the New York Board of Regents. Academic expansion forced yet another move to 41 Park Row in 1951, and two years later Pace College received authorization from the State Education Department to grant the bachelor of arts degree. Classes began on the Pleasantville campus in 1963. The year before, the Marks Hall building was signed over to the College by Pace Trustee Wayne Marks, President of General Foods, and his wife, Helen. Soon after, Dyson Hall was constructed, named in honor of alumnus, Trustee and benefactor, Charles H. Dyson. Willcox Hall was named for Trustee and benefactor Byron Willcox. In 1965, the Undergraduate School of Business Administration, the School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Education were established. The year following, the School of Nursing was founded and was later named after alumnus, Trustee and benefactor Gustav Lienhard. In December 1966, at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Civic Center building, Vice President Hubert Humphrey promised to teach at Pace and conducted a Scholar-in-Residence seminar at the New York City campus. Finally, in 1973, the State Education Department approved Pace College's petition for university status. Two years later, the College of White Plains consolidated with Pace University, and the School of Law was established in 1976. The assets of Briarcliff College were acquired in 1977. In the years following, an international education center was opened by IBM Corporation, NYNEX opened a center and the Hastings Center moved its operations to the Briarcliff site. In 1983, the School of Computer Science and Information Systems was established as its own entity. In 1997, Pace purchased the World Trade Institute, a leading-edge provider of international training programs. Pace University today is a diverse institution with over 13,000 students. For 100 years, bright, motivated and talented men and women have walked out of Pace's many doors, degrees in hand, and have ventured into the world prepared for the challenges of each passing decade. Every year, curriculum offerings in schools and colleges are modified to meet the changing needs of ambitious and knowledgeable students. Throughout the years since 1906, Pace has grown along with the talents of those who comprise what is affectionately known as the "Pace community." The Pace tradition is something in which we can all take pride.
