Hello Everyone, Pray and pray some more. We have lost two giants in the political arena. They are the civil rights icon, Julian Bond and the history-making, Rep. Louis B. Stokes. We need to pray their love ones who as well as all who knew them and the work they fought so hard for us to have justice in these United States of America. We must pray for our land because there needs to be healing in our land today like never before. There are many issues we as people are facing and we need to pray for God to order our steps in His word so that we may stay steadfast and immovable always abounding in the work that God has called us to do while we are still here. We are able to do exceedingly and abundantly more. We just need to stay focus and stay prayed up so that when we have trials we will not coward to the circumstances in our lives. God has not brought us this far to leave us. But we must turn back to Him and seeking His face for all of our needs. He is still an all-sufficient God. Our role is to trust by faith.

Letter To The Editor: Elder Abuse, Unlawful Eviction Rampant Dear Editor: Since the publication of the article, “Elder Abuse and Unlawful Evictions by L. A. Sheriffs Running Rampant in L.A. Black Neighborhoods” (PACE, Vol. 24, No 41, August 14, 2015), I have received supportive inputs from as far away as India and as near as the surrounding View Park, L.A. community. In fact, just yesterday I received a note from Tammy Williams, View Park community organizer that she and others are calling and planning a trip to the Tuesday Board of Supervisors’ meeting to show solidarity and express some of the individual concerns residents have as related to the entire prospect of “gentrification,” elder abuse, real estate fraud, denial of due process, unlawful evictions and other “civil rights” offenses. A reader from Florida wrote: “Dr. Anderson, read the article with dismay. I believe the corruption of the American legal system goes beyond L.A. or CA. I have been playing attorney in Sarasota, FL for over 10 years and continue to be shocked and dismayed by the unbelievable crocked attorneys, one of which is now a Manatee County judge. These criminal types have stolen in excess of $40 M from me and my family. It seems universal on the local levels, greed corruption seems to be standard procedure. When one consults other attorneys they agree and have their own disgusting examples. It is sad to come from a country of questionable Judges and corrupt attorneys who are for all practical purposes cancers on society.” A Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Ohio wrote: “You will not believe how corrupt the legal system is. Drugs on the streets are controlled from inside the prison system; people live or die from decisions that are made within the prison walls; manipulating the real estate market is a multi-trillion dollar racket. Judges are ‘bought and paid for’ and police are their foot soldiers. ‘Equal justice is a myth’ and ‘due process’ is still but a dream.” A husband told me that his “door was kicked in, with guns drawn” and he, his wife, and their nine-year-old daughter were physically removed from their residence, on the spot—with no option available to seek redress or even summon legal assistance or counsel. One man told me that but for the fact that “we got the right police—one that respected the law as read—or the story would have been completely different: ‘get out, now, or get arrested!’ I entered the admission line at the L.A. County Board of Supervisors Tuesday morning Board meeting about 9:AM, and I came down from the public speakers’ platform about 1:13PM. I was allowed two
minutes to “state my case” or tell me story. What I said was I was here not just because at age 81, I was “unlawfully evicted from my residence of 53 years,” but because I WAS DENIED MY ‘DAY IN COURT.’ I handed the five Supervisors individual copies of the “Elder Abuse and Unlawful Evictions” article and stated my duress that sworn public servants, L.A. County Sheriffs had proceeded with “eviction enforcement” even though they had been Served and shown documented evidence “this property is in bankruptcy, and an ‘automatic stay’ is in effect.” If you Google “automatic stay, bankruptcy,” this is what you are likely to get: “Bankruptcy offers a chance for people to slowly pay off their debt, or eliminate most of the debt all together. For individuals filing bankruptcy, an automatic stay provision is often desired. It protects the filer and ensures that he or she will not be harassed by creditors or lenders and that the creditors will be able to take no further action against the filer on behalf of the debt.” Essentially, the debtor—you and I—can have time and peace of mind to pursue a satisfactory solution to our problem. In my case, for example, I needed more time to sell other real estate I had invested in. But, Sheriffs deputies, acting on “instructions from a bank attorney” proceeded to evict, ignoring the restraints of law. Therefore, the eviction was “unlawful.” My appeal to the Supervisors was that they do an investigation, and look into the reasons so many deputies seem to be ignorant of the “automatic stay” provision of the bankruptcy law; choose to ignore the law; or decide on their own they do not like or respect that law. I urged them to give this matter immediate attention because, “while I cannot speak for all the people who have complaints, I can tell you the situation is long-standing and needs immediate remedy.” As the Editor, I want to thank you and your publication for making this platform available to the public. As you are aware, there are untold stories of abuse and fraud and mistreatment. Some of these stories are so heart wrenching they bring tears to the eyes of both the teller of the story and the listener to the story being told. What we are dealing with is, perhaps, the largest part of America’s GNP (Gross National Product). In my opinion, thousands of billions (1,000’s of $1,000,000,000’s) of dollars are “generated” every year by the collective actions and activities associated with the manipulation of the real estate market in the United States. Perhaps, even in other countries as well; but our story is American. We suffer here. Henry L. N. Anderson, Ed.D., Ph.D. Dr.anderson@cula.edu
#BlackLivesMatter Prioritizes Black Life By Julianne Malveaux NNPA Columnist Nineteen-year-old Zachary Hammond was sitting in a Hardee’s parking lot in his hometown of Seneca, SC, on a first date. An undercover agent had arranged to buy marijuana from his date and had lured her to the parking lot. What could have been a simple drug bust turned into tragedy. Zachary was killed when two bullets struck him on July 26. As always, there are conflicting stories of what happened. The shooting officer says he was in danger of being run over by Hammond, but not everyone agrees, and one Hardee’s employee witnessed officers moving Hammond’s body to place it so it confirmed officer reports Hammond is White and his name is not as widely known as that of Michael Brown, Eric Garner, or Tamir Rice. Hammond’s family and their attorney Eric Bland, say the national media have not covered the murder of Zach Hammond because he is White. Give me a break. While activists organized to protest the murders of the unarmed African American men (and women) who have been killed by the police, no one in Zach Hammond’s circle has cared enough to organize an action to protest his killing. His town is majority White, as are the officers of the law. Citizens of Seneca, S.C. need to ask why Zach’s killing is tolerated. Approximately 350 people have been killed by police officers so far this year. We don’t know all of their names, but we do know that African Americans are twice as likely to be killed (or die in police custody) as Whites. We know about Sandra Bland, and Eric Garner, and Michael Brown, and Tamir Rice because somebody lifted them up, organized around their murders, and made their presence known. Tellingly, the protest of Michael Brown’s murder was muted until a grand jury failed to indict murderer Darren Wilson for his crime. In the case of Zach Hammond, there has been no tape issued, no witnesses who have come forward, and a police bureaucracy that seems in no hurry to issue facts and findings. Still, everybody would know Zach Hammond’s name if that #AllLivesMatter crowd, the ones who object to the #BlackLivesMatter movement, would coalesce around Zach Hammond’s murder. Instead of criticizing the #BlackLivesMatter movement, Hammond’s attorney and his grieving parents ought to ask why more White folks aren’t out-
raged about young Hammond’s death. Zach Hammond’s tragic death highlights the reasons why police officers should be forced to wear body cameras. It reminds us that too many trigger-happy officers of the law should be better trained. It reminds us that some have been trained (or decided) to shoot to kill, even if the perceived threat comes from a 12year-old child playing with a toy gun, or a young White man who (facts still to be determined) was simply driving his car. Even if Zach Hammond was trying to flee the Hardee’s parking lot, the consequence for evading arrest should not be the death penalty. I am proud of the #BlackLivesMatter movement, an excited about the three young women who organized it, and the thousands who have united under their banner. That movement that prioritizes black lives in a way that they have never before been prioritized. The #AllLivesMatter seems to be a flippant answer to #BlackLivesMatter. But here’s the deal – White lives have always mattered and Black lives have been historically denigrated. Our nation’s organizing principle, the Constitution, stated that African Americans should only be counted as three fifths of a person. Thousands of African American people were lynched because they dared defy “Black Codes” or simply because they had too much money, too much attitude or too much dignity for oppressive white southerners. Congress repeatedly refused to pass anti-lynching laws. If all lives matter, where are the White folks who protest the murder of Michael Brown and Eric Garner? Where are the White folks who will protest Zach Hammond’s murder? (There have been White protesters, to be sure, but have Zach Hammond’s parents ever been to a rally to protest the loss of Black life). There are many Black south Carolinians who would join in a protest against police brutality and an unjust killing. But those close to Zach Hammond will have to do the organizing to attract the national media. Because of historic oppression it is important for those who oppose needless police killings of unarmed Black people to embrace the #BlackLivesMatter movement. All lives matter, certainly, but it is the disproportionate killing of African Americans that has provided the impetus for a movement. Eric Bland, the Hammond attorney, ought to embrace it instead of being criticizing it. Julianne Malveaux is a DC based economist and author. She can be reached at juliannemalveaux.com.

EDUCATION & COMMUNITY NEWS Back to College Tips for Black Students By Tom Huskerson Fall is creeping up on students all over the nation. Fall means returning to the campus or classroom. In 2015, the number of black students entering college or returning for another year is rising again. Black college enrollment is gradually catching up with whites. According to the U.S. Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) 70.9 percent of black graduating seniors enrolled in college in October 2014 compared to 67.3 percent of whites students. 2014 marked the first time ever that African-Americans enrolled in college at a higher rate than whites. But there is still a problem. Young black men are not enrolling in college at the same rate as black women. According to Clutchmagonline.com black women are enrolling in college more than any other group. But don’t get it twisted; black men are attending college. Another myth we need address while we’re at it. It is not true that there are more black men in prison than in college. But college requires many things in addition to the desire to learn and better one’s self. It requires money. A college education is shamefully expensive. But what is truly heart breaking is the millions of dollars in scholarships and grants for minority students that are unclaimed every year. There is money available for black students. The AACR published this report revealing the scholarships available to minority
students. But college has other hidden expenses that students and parents need to realize. These include: On campus parking Course materials, text books, lab equipment, technology and assorted supplies. Taking longer to graduate, additional semesters and summer school. Student social activities. Clubs, fraternities fees. Travel expenses for family visits. Sports activities. Dorm expenses, laundry, bedding, toiletries, etc. Dining hall and meal plans, food. All these expenses add up year after year and they are not normally covered by tuition. Some college tuition include meal plans but not all. Some will cover lab equipment and supplies. But you need to be aware of these costs and calculate them into your overall education budget. You can find ways to beat these costs here. But before you even get a chance to pay for all those things and tuition you have to get into college. Many underprivileged students find the cost of testing and admissions fees to be a major roadblock to getting into school. These fees can add up to hundreds of dollars before a student even gets admitted to college. Thankfully there are ways to beat those fees as well. Some states offer the ACT or the SAT free of charge. Some states and universities don’t require either for admittance into school. Some
students may qualify for fee waivers allowing them to take those tests and possibly qualify for college application fee waivers as well. To check your qualifications for college application fee waivers the National Association of College Admission Counseling offers this form. Here are more details on the ACT waiver requirements and the SAT has some info here. You still have to buy the books. College text books are notoriously expensive. Between 2002 and 2013 the price of a text book rose 82 percent. Why? You can bring down the price of text books. “Occupy the Book Store‘ is a Chrome browser extension that allows you to shop for the same books you find at your college book store at online stores where you may find them cheaper. Other websites that help fight the high cost of textbooks include; Textsurf.com Directtextbook.com Slugbooks.com Student2Student.com These are just a few websites but you can find many more by doing a simple web search. Another concern that could be costly is the loss of personal information at school. You have no doubt heard of a data breach. Colleges and universities are not immune to this. As a student you need to protect your personal information at all times because you are a prime target for hackers. Schools can hold enormous amounts of data about students
including their social security numbers, financial information of them and their parents, background information, medical data, and God knows what else. Parents and students need to understand why student data is such a prized target of data gatherers. So how does the student protect their personal information at school? Here are a few tips. Protect your technology. Never leave your laptop or phone unlocked and unattended. College campuses are often wide open and thieves know it. Whether you’re in the dorm or the library its easy for a thief to grab it and be gone. Don’t advertise the fact you are carrying a laptop. Laptop sleeves or carriers are clues and a target for thieves. Install a tracking app that
will help you track down your device in case its lost or stolen. Encrypt your files. This way even if someone gets access to your computer they won’t get your information. Students are prime targets of malware and phishing attacks on their mobile devices. Students can protect themselves by making sure they are using different passwords on different accounts. One password fits all means a hacker gets it all if he can break or hack your password. And use a strong password or consider two factor authentication. If you have trouble keeping all those passwords in your head then use a password manager. Don’t share your password with your dorm or classmates. Be extremely careful with l Please see College, page 10
Michael’s First Day at School By Israel J. Matthews
Contributing Writer Hello Everyone, here I am again this week. I hope you enjoy these weekly stories about Michael. This week is about Michael’s first day at school. Michael was so excited about going back to school after having a fun-filled summer. He was excited about being in Junior High School. He was so excited to get to meet his new teachers. This was going to be a new experience for him because he had always been use to staying with one teacher all day when he was in elementary school. But now, it was going to be different . He was going to three different classes. Michael in the beginning was a little nervous and also a little scared. But after completing his first day of school, he could barely stop talking about all the fun he had on his first day at school. He almost talked his mother’s head off about all the good things that happened. His mother said, “Michael I told you that all you had to do was believe and good things would happen.” He said, “Mom, you were absolutely right and from now on I will always keep a positive mind and think good things.”

CHURCH & COMMUNITY NEWS Survey Shows How People Connect To Faith On Mobile Devices DALLAS-Newswire/ -People are turning to mobile technology to connect with faith practices whether it's streaming online, apps or social media. In a recent survey1 sponsored by AT&T*, 4-in10 (41%) respondents said they use a mobile phone, tablet or laptop to connect to faith-based organizations or inspiration sites. That compares to about a third (32%) who said they regularly2 attend worship services. The research is part of AT&T's Inspired Mobility™ conversation. The survey found that among those who attend services regularly, 1-in-4 (25%) report using a mobile device as part of that experience. The use of mobile technology to connect with faith differs among ethnic groups. Blacks are more likely to use technology to connect with their faith. The study found that 57% of blacks use mobile devices to connect to faith and inspiration sites and groups. That compares to 46% of Hispanics, 38% of Asians and 37% of whites. "People use their mobile devices to manage their lives and access their passions," said Jennifer Jones, AT&T's vice president of diverse markets. "This research shows that their faith and inspiration practices are no exception." People using mobile devices in faith practices say they: Listen to or download music (42%) Stream services3 (38%) Research or study (32%) Access holy or song books (29%) Keep up with religious holidays/holy days (28%) Give (24%) Use prayer/meditation apps (22%) Use faith/selfimprovement apps (19%) Keeping up with dietary guidelines (10%) Across all groups, 72% of those who use mobility to connect with their faith report using social media to do so, with Facebook and YouTube used most. The survey also found that the younger the person, the more likely they are to use social media to connect with faith-based organiza-
tions, with 18-24 year olds leading the way at 85%. Also, according to the survey, people in the South were more likely than people in any other region to connect to faith with online worship. Finally, some people admit being somewhat distracted during worship with their devices. According to the survey, 44% of 25-34 year olds said they used their mobile device to engage in activities unrelated to the service they were attending. Most popular activities were texting a friend (15%), posting to social media (8%), watching a video (7%), even gaming (4%) and other things (6%). However, 73% of people reported never using their mobile devices during worship to engage in these activities. HEALTH & COMMUNITY NEWS Heaviest Smokers May Face Biggest Weight Gain After Quitting By Kathryn Doyle (Reuters Health) - Smokers who keep smoking, and those who quit, will all gain weight over time, but those who smoked the most before quitting may gain more, a new study suggests. How much more might also be predicted by the smokers’ starting weights, researchers say. Light smokers and those who didn’t start out obese gained the least weight after quitting. “Nicotine is a metabolic stimulant (speeds up metabolism) and an appetite suppressant (makes people feel less hungry),” said lead author Susan Veldheer of Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, Pennsylvania, in an email. “So, when people quit, they tend to eat more because their appetite increases and they lose the metabolic boost they were getting
from smoking . . . two things that then lead to weight gain,” she told Reuters Health. This study clearly indicates that the more nicotine someone took in, the greater the effect of the drug on metabolic rate and appetite, Veldheer said. “This, in turn, led to more weight gain when they quit.” Researchers analyzed data from the annual National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey between 2003 and 2012, focusing on people age 36 and older who answered questions about their height, current weight, weight 10 years prior, and smoking status. Of 12,204 adults included in the analysis, 7,914 had never smoked, 3,105 were still smoking and 1,185 had quit smoking between one and 10 years earlier. Among former smokers, 44
Fresh Memories By Dean L. Jones, CPM The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) beginning this semester will teach about the dangers of "sexting". The LAUSD is proactively getting in front of what they believe to be a growing problem in our social culture. Teachers should tackle sensitive issues, but there are other significant constants you hope are being addressed, as well. For instance, it should be critical to know all you can about how the brain works and areas that can help improve its' function. Our brain reviews infinite possibilities, including right or wrong, moral or immoral, fight or flight, etc., all of which requires the utmost level of an efficiency to ensure the correct interpretation of incoming information. As the brain is the ultimate in decision making, maybe long before speaking on a symptom of social ills like sexting, without doubt the collective learning should center on what makes the brain function at its optimum capacity. A learning topic should address the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) that is responsible for the development of new neurons in the brain or nerve tissue, and therefore new memories. Low amounts of BDNF lead to insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome and diabetes disease. In view of that, the unlawful activity of sexting is undoubtedly generated from an improperly functioning brain. Observing a young person pouring a sugary drink into their mouth is unfortunately a common occurrence. Nevertheless, processed sugar quickly enters the blood stream, and eventually will make its way to the brain. The big concern is how processed sugar can block membranes and in so doing slow down neural communication (nervous system). Processed sugar increases free radical inflammatory stress on your brain. Processed sugar causes brain neurons to misfire and send erroneous messages that

Dean L. Jones take time and energy to sort out, making it harder to think clearly. So when you want to address proper social strategies you first may need to tighten up how the brain is treated. Our brain uses 65% of the body's glucose, but too much or too little glucose can have a detrimental effect on brain function. All students should know how eating processed sugar places a serious stress on related hormones, lasting negatively for five hours. This unquestionably interferes with learning processes and the inability to capture fresh memories, as during this time the body is coping with excess insulin and suffers a depletion of healthy glucose levels. Overconsumption of processed sugar leads to an increased incidence of coronary thrombosis, in dental cavities, obesity, liver disease, gout, and some cancers. Science classes should be all over this information and show clearly how eating processed sugar can be very detrimental to attention span, mood stability, all the way to doing the right thing in social settings. percent had smoked one to 14 cigarettes per day before they quit, while 23 percent had smoked 25 or more cigarettes per day. Current smokers had similar frequencies. Across the whole group, people had gained an average of almost 10 pounds (4.5 kilograms) over the 10-year period. Current smokers had gained an average of almost eight lb (3.5 kg), compared to 18 lb (8.4 kg) for those who had quit smoking, as reported in the International Journal of Obesity. Based on current smokers’ average weight gains, researchers calculated how much of the quitters' weight gain was attributable to not smoking. The proportion was highest for those who had smoked the most, and for those who were heaviest before quitting. For those who had smoked no more than 14 cigarettes per day before quitting, just 4.4 lb (2 kg) of weight gain over the years was directly attributable to not smoking. That compared
to almost 23 lb (10.3 kg) among those who had smoked more than 25 cigarettes per day.For smokers who were obese at the start, 15.6 lb (7.1 kg) of weight gain was related to quitting smoking. For those who were normal weight, it was 9.7 lb (4.4 kg). About a third of smokers say fear of weight gain keeps them from quitting, Veldheer said. “Eating more when you stop smoking is partly due to an increased appetite, but behavioral and psychological factors may play a part too, for example eating instead of smoking in a habitual way, or comfort eating,” said Deborah Lycett, principal lecturer in nutrition and dietetics at Coventry University in the U.K., who was not part of the new study. “Stopping smoking should continue to be the biggest priority for improving your health, and the recommendations for those trying to quit are to stop smoking first and then address any weight gained
afterwards,” Lycett told Reuters Health by email. Smoking is not an appropriate way to control weight, Veldheer said. “What I think our study does is help identify specific groups of smokers who may gain more weight when they quit so that they can be prepared and have realistic expectations,” she said. Former smokers may want to find calorie-free ways to replace the habit of smoking, like chewing sugar-free gum, chewing a straw or a toothpick, which could help, Veldheer said. “As a dietitian with expertise in weight management, the answer is surprisingly similar for smokers, non-smokers, anyone who wants to lose weight . . . eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, choose whole grains over highly processed foods and avoid liquid calories,” she said. NEWS State Auditor Investigating Whether Caltrans Spends Less Money in Poorer By Sheri Stuart From CBM LOS ANGELES— California has always stood out among other states as a leader when it comes to transportation. The Golden State developed an early system of state routes and roadways that predates the federal highway system. It also boasts of early infrastructure innovations like the Pacific Coast Highway, the Bay Bridge and the Arroyo-Seco Parkway. On any given day, Californians travel across more than 50,000 miles of freeway lanes that the California Department of Transportation, commonly called Caltrans, is responsible for building, maintaining and restoring. But taking a deeperthan-surface look at the state’s extensive network of roadways and the rich history upon which they are built,
some observers say, upkeep of the roads that have historically been the lifeblood of the state’s economy is unequal. Roads in poorer neighborhoods are often in more disrepair than in affluent places. Therefore, Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson (D-Carson), Chair of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee, has requested an investigation of
Caltrans. “Why are Compton, Carson, Watts, Gardena, and Long Beach looking different from Bellflower, Cerritos, and from affluent areas on the Westside, Beverly Hills, and Rancho Palos Verdes,” said Assembymember Gipson. “These are all cities still in the state of California, but if
“Tupac and Biggie” Investigator, Russell Poole, Death Leaves More Questions (Continued from page 1) detective on the Wallace homicide and witness for the Wallace family in their lawsuit against the L.A.P.D. But today Author of the book “Tupac: 187 The Red Knight” and producer of the acclaimed “Tupac Assassination” DVD series sheds insight into Poole’s last days and what lead to the meeting with the Sherriff’s department. Bond points to an email Poole wrote in January 2015 when the book was released. “RJ: I'm very happy with our book. The contents hold enough information to reopen both murder cases. With the right Law Enforcement Agency working the case, and smart & creative interrogation, this case will result in prosecutions & or officially solving the case. I believe in the success of this project & am proud to be a part of it. Let’s move forward & make some money. Regards, Russ”. “Russ was my hero,” said Bond, “but Russ was mislead after ‘187’ by a conspiracy theorist, who spent the greater part of last year trying to embellish and expand theories that Russell and I worked on in both “187” and in the “TupacAssassination” movies I produced- some of them were beyond outrageous. Enough has to be enough”. “There was an internal rift between (Michael) Carlin (listed as co-author of ‘187’) and I over the marketing of ‘187.’” added Bond. “Russ was kind of in the middle. Russell really wanted to close Wallace and Shakur (by relation), but was too close to it. This lead to some troubles he had later.” Bond says this is where
the wheels fell off. “Michael has taken some elaborate extensions of ideas and theories referred to in ‘187’- which was based on Poole’s notes, and newly collected evidence that was presented and leaked by the LAPD. Michael believed that we needed to spend no money on marketing ‘187’ and refused to participate in spending on it, because he had this ‘Field of Dreams’ take that “If we dropped it, they will buy. That and his 20,000 twitter followers were all he needed. I had a PR person lined up and all, but Carlin convinced Russ it was unnecessary. Carlin and Poole were distant cousins (who had never met before ‘187’) and Russ had no money, Carlin convinced Russ that there was so much more to the Wallace and Shakur killings that I became this whole thing about all these corrupt cops and now you’re dragging the Sherriff’s office into it- just because at one time Reggie Wright Jr. (a person of interest in the case). Now they are tying up LAPD, LASD, the Court system (alleging altered Court transcripts of “behind closed door meetings” between David Kenner, former attorney for Death Row Records and the prosecutor’s office. Bond states that within hours of the news dropping of Poole’s death, which Bond believes to be NOT related to any conspiracy, but rather a long standing heart condition of Poole’s, Carlin released a free download manuscript called “Chaos Merchants” which Carlin states was the “unfinished manuscript of Poole’s own book.” Upon a cursory reading it is nothing more that re paraphrased version of “Tupac: 187”. “I just go done reading
Chaos Merchants, and my heart sunk” said Bond. “‘187’ was Russ’s theory, and that’s evidenced by the entire similarity between this Chaos manuscript and 187. In fact, it looks like an earlier draft of the ‘187’ book Carlin was hired to ghost-write.” “Russ needed to move on after ‘187’ came out,” added Bond. From what I see here, it is clear that Mr. Carlin kept selling Russ on some ‘bigger conspiracy’ and distracting Russ from what he needed to be doing to better his situation. I was unaware of the communications between Poole and Carlin and Suge Knight’s attorneys, and Knight’s alleged statements validating the claims made in ‘187’. I know that Reggie Wright Jr. (former head of Death Row Security and long standing person of interest in the homicides) rambled on for about 15 minutes about Knight being a ‘rat’ so something must have resonated. But until I talk with the attorneys for Knight, I can neither confirm nor deny if that information is true.” Knight is alleged to have confirmed the events in “Tupac: 187” according to Carlin. “Russ was dedicated to pursuing the truth, and the truth is in ‘Tupac: 187’.” Bond concluded. “Anything more than that was at best an extension of a theme; in pursuit of the truth one must be prudent, and by Carlin’s own words, neither of them were. Russ needed to be at the doctor, not at the Sherriff’s department. But at least he died doing what he believed was the right thing.” Tupac: 187, Poole last official book, is available at Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.
you drive down those communities and roads they are in grave conditions.” The independent statewide audit will examine spending decisions related to the department’s maintenance program covering the most recent five years, and assess whether there exists inequities in repair priorities and the distribution of funds. To the extent possible, the audit will identify the current socioeconomic demographics of each district receiving funding. The review comes at a time when politicians in Sacramento are floating a number of competing proposals on how to improve transportation in the state. For example, Assembly Republicans have introduced a 9-point “roadmap” they expect will provide more than $6 billion in new funding to address California’s transportation needs. Their proposal calls for an elimination of redundancies at Caltrans, saving $500 million annually. They created the plan in response to Governor Brown’s convening of a special session of the legislature on transportation funding. While each group’s plan has a different focus and vision for what the future of transportation should look like in the state for many Black Caucus members fixing inequalities in the current system is a more pressing concern. Despite anecdotal evidence of disparities in the upkeep of roads, Caltrans maintains that it is playing
fair. “Caltrans is investing statewide. We are aggressively focusing the limited resources we have for fix-itfirst projects equally across the state where they can be most cost-effective on preventive maintenance to our existing infrastructure,” said Caltrans spokesman Jason Probst. “Projects are selected using criteria based on public safety, preservation, service and conditions of our assets, so all areas are equally weighted. A particular city or region’s economic status plays no role in the likelihood that they’ll be selected above any other area. Every dollar we invest in this strategy we realize $9-14 in savings.” Probst confirmed that Caltrans will need approximately $80 billion over the next 10 years to address current and future needs of the state highway system. “There is a projected funding shortfall of nearly $58 billion with available revenue,” he points out. The auditor’s office anticipates the results of its investigation next year. “There is a need that needs to be met and that is to repair the roads and infrastructure of our state,” added Assemblymember Gipson. “If you look at individuals in my district if it was on the ballot, I believe it be supported for the simple fact that they have been the ones who have been victims of what has transpired in terms of our roads.”

NATIONAL/STATE & REGIONAL NEWS Cremation Services Announced for Julian Bond WASHINGTON (NNPA) – The family of Julian Bond [wife Pam Horowitz; sons Horace Mann Bond II, Jeffrey and Michael; daughters, Phyllis Jane Bond McMillan and Julia Louise Bond; sister, Jane; brother, James; and his eight grandchildren] has issued the following statement: “We realize that many people loved and admired Julian. We understand that at this time of great loss for our family, that many you are feeling your own sense of loss. We also very much understand the need for community closure and an opportunity to celebrate the life of a great husband, father and grandfather, but also a great national treasure and civil rights icon. “To that end, we would like to provide the following explanation and invitation. “As all of you are aware, Julian Bond was a man who took strong positions and held fast to the things he believed in. Julian directed all of us, with respect to his desires for his final rites. We are honoring his wishes that his body be cremated and his ashes be committed to the Gulf of Mexico. This will be a private, family only, service. “This final request will be carried out in a burial at sea on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 2:00 pm, Central Daylight Time. “Since we fully understand and appreciate that many of

(Roy Lewis/Washington Informer you consider Julian to be part of your family and would like to be a part of his official home going, we extend the following invitation. We invite you to gather at a body of water near your home and precisely at 2:00 pm, CDT, spread flower pedals on the water and join us in bidding farewell to Horace Julian Bond. This gesture will mean a great deal to us as a family and also provide some comfort in knowing that you share our loss. “Finally, as we join together as a family to help each other through this time, we are well aware that there must be a public opportunity for all of Julian’s friends, Civil Rights Colleagues, students and admirers to come together in a memorial celebration of his life to share memories and expressions of love and
appreciation. We will announce plans for such a gathering very soon. “Thank you for sharing Julian with us, and thank you for allowing us to honor his wishes. Thank you.” Meanwhile, tributes continue to pour in for Bond. “Julian Bond was a huge hero in the fight against HIV and AIDS,” said Phil Wilson, president and CEO of the Black AIDS Institute. “I never had to explain why it was important for him to show up on any of the many occasions I called him for his help. He made sure that HIV/AIDS was front and center on the NAACP’s agenda. He was the first leader to create an AIDS strategy for a national civil rights organization. And when I called him asking him to be photographed and to publicly take an HIV test, he did not hesitate.” Equally important, Wilson said, “Julian understood probably better than anybody else that injustice is of a whole cloth – you cannot embrace any of it and still call yourself just. The threads are woven throughout. You can’t say that I’m opposed to racism, but I’m okay with sexism; you can’t be antimisogynistic yet homophobic. Julian spent his entire life fighting for justice. Not just some of the time, in some places, for some people.” Source: Indianapolis Recorder
Rep. Maxine Waters Statement on the Passing of Julian Bond LOS ANGELES – Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43), Ranking Member of the Committee on Financial Services, released the following statement upon the passing of civil rights leader Julian Bond:"It cannot be understated what a loss Julian's passing is to the civil rights community. He was an icon whose message of equality knew no boundaries. As an early student of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Julian firmly believed that the law should protect and respect the dignity of all oppressed and marginalized communities. His advocacy therefore extended beyond the fight for the equal protection of African Americans, and included women, the LGBT community, and people of color abroad. I especially recall Julian's involvement in anti-apartheid protests as we worked nationwide to ensure the United States did not encourage and support racial segregation in South Africa. As a co-founder of Southern Poverty Law Center, Julian remained a consistent and credible voice in the advancement of public policies designed to protect the most vulnerable
and underserved communities in the country. Julian's tireless pursuit of justice never wavered and his commitment to equality made a real difference in the lives of so many Americans. And while he's no longer with us, Julian's legacy lives on not just in the many organizations he led, but also in the people he inspired and whose lives were forever changed by his vision and work." Julian Bond was an American civil rights leader, activist, writer, professor, and state legislator. As a young college student active in the Civil Rights Movement, Bond co-founded the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), where he served as communications director for several years. He was also instrumental in creating the Southern Poverty Law Center, a public interest and civil rights law firm headquartered in Montgomery, Alabama. As a member of the Georgia State Legislature, Bond was a tireless advocate for minorities and for the poor. In 1998, he was chosen as Chairman of the N.A.A.C.P., where he served until 2010.

Charlotte Fox said Cosby, 78, sexually assaulted her at the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles in the 1970s, when she was a 23year-old aspiring actress. "When I heard the other women, I said: 'Oh my God, that is what happened to me.' I could not believe it," Fox said. The second woman, who was only identified by her first name Eliz-

Cosby has never been criminally charged and most of the allegations cannot be prosecuted because of the statute of limitations. His lawyers have denied wrongdoing on his part. In a separate case, Allred said she hoped to get answers from the former star of the 1980s comedy series "The Cosby Show" in a deposition set for Oct. 9. Cosby has been ordered to appear for the deposition in a lawsuit brought by another of

"After his long period of public silence, we would hope that he would welcome this opportunity to testify fully and completely and give his side of the story," Allred said on Thursday. She said she had no reason to believe Cosby would not appear for the deposition and that she planned to ask any questions relevant to the discovery of evidence in Huth's lawsuit.
