Bernetta Major -Thomas Still Raising the Roof Almost 50 Years With Gospel Music By Gloria Zuurveen Editor-in-Chief LOS ANGELES— According to the Scriptures, “Many are called but few are chosen.” Bernetta Major-Thomas is a chosen one from God and listening to her story, it became so clear how God has had his hand on her from the beginning as a very young child of four years old that would often, while accompanying her mother to church, become fascinated by watching the choir director. She said, “I would be good so that I could go to choir rehearsal with my mother to sit by the director.” Bernetta said she joined the youth choir at the age of seven and became the director under the leadership of the late Rev. Abram Shorts at Temple Missionary Baptist Church. As a chosen vessel who was willing and ready to do God’s will, Bernetta’s faithfulness was witnessed by many and especially the late Rev. Henry Campbell at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in San Bernardino. When she was only 13 years old, he appointed her to take control of directing the entire church choir department which consisted of youth and adults. Bernetta is the epitome of the Scripture in Proverbs that says, “A man’s gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men.” Bernetta, God’s chosen one, can attest to the truth of that Scripture, that her gifts as a faithful and favored choir director, musician, and singer have brought her before great men, like the late great Andre Crouch whom she had the immense pleasure of being a background vocalist during a special engagement in West Africa. She has also performed with the Ricky

Grundy Choral as a featured soloist on various industry related recordings, local events, live television and on stage productions as well as television and radio commercials. At press time, Bernetta is preparing her heart for Grundy’s memorial service as he passed last Monday, July 27. Bernetta, I believe, as she often says, is one of the best kept secrets in gospel music. She is so multi-talented and for almost 50 years she has been true to her calling to remain as a gospel singer when so many others who start out in gospel cross-over and sing secular music. On Wednesday, August 5, 2015, The African American Board Leadership Institute (AABLI) assembled experts, in their fields, to share their knowledge and best practices for obtaining corporate and business sponsorships. As part of AABLI’s educational series, this seminar was designed to gather professionals from both the nonprofit and corporation sectors to learn how to make their organizations brand attractive to sponsors, what is the trend in sponsorship for companies, and how to begin a conversation with companies and businesses to avoid making mistakes. The mission of the AABLI is to strengthen nonprofit, public and private organizations through recruiting, preparing and placing African Americans on a broad range of governing boards. Bernetta, she has by faith held on to God’s unchanging hand and by faith weathered the storms of life to persevere and by doing so God has
continued to reward her with the tenacity to press on to the mark of the higher calling. She has been a featured soloist on various record-
ing with the National Gospel Music Workshop of America Mass Choir. Her gift, ordained by God has allowed Bernetta to walk before great men, yet she has remained humble and holy in her faithfulness to her call for which God has called her. Because of her joy in serving, singing, and directing, she was able to transcend racial barrier in the ‘60s while in elementary school. She was in the sixth grade when she was selected by her teacher, Jane Ann Meager, to represent her school, Alessandro Elementary in the San Bernardino City’s Honor Choir. She said she had a chance to direct the “Lord’s Prayer” in 1964 when only 11 years old at the Long Beach Music Education’s Convention. One newspaper review said she was remarkable. Bernetta was able to use her gift as a director all the way from elementary to high school because her good works spoke loud for her. So when she integrated, the word about her gift preceded her and she was active and excelled. She taught the White students gospel songs during Black History Month. She said, “We raised the roof. We received standing ovations at the school.” Raising the roof is what Bernetta is very good at and I am a living witness of her in action since Please see Bernetta, page 4
West Angeles CDC Teams Up With Solari Enterprises To Give Tenant’s Appreciation Day at Parkland Apartments By Gloria Zuurveen Editor-in-Chief LOS ANGELES—July 25, 2015 will be a day for the families at the Parklane Apartment in Los Angeles to remember, not only for being a hot sun shiny day, but for the sunshine that West Angeles CDC and Solari Enterprises, Inc., a full service property management organization specializing in multifamily affordable housing, brought to them during the 2nd Annual Tenant’s Appreciation Day. The families at Parklane Apartment located 4600 W. Martin Luther King Blvd, Los Angeles were given a full day of fun in the sun with face-painting for the children, delicious food from various vendors, a live DJ, lemonade and ice tea, raffle giveaways including a bike, theater tickets, and much more. The parents lined up and performed the electric slide. There was a barber on the premise for free haircuts. Donnicus Cook, West Angeles, Director of Economic Development, initiated this creative event as a way to bring tenants together so they could get to know one another. He and Anthony Crawford, Solari, Property Manager, were enthusiastic about showing how they had turned one of the apartments into a community room fully remodeled with

50th Anniversary
Watts Rebellion Commemoration Honoring History, Transforming Our Community
Dr. Gloria Zuurveen Founder /Owner/ Publisher/Photographer Photo by Ian Foxx
Hello Everyone, Race in America, has it changed much? Or has it changed at all? As we look back over these 50 years and think about the 50th Anniversary of Voting Rights Act (VRA) and The Watts Rebellion. What really has changed about Black in America? Yes, we have witnessed a first Black President, yes, we are, that is, some of us are living with higher living standards, but for the masses of us as a people it appears that we have digressed backward instead forward. When we look at statistics regarding the Prison Industry Complex, unemployment among blacks, the lack of Black who actually have a say in this economy other than consumers, the killing of us as a people by the very public servant who is suppose to protect and serve are the main ones killing many of our sons and daughters, the crucial question still is like the late Rev. Martin Luther King said, “Where do we go from here?” I suggest that we stop the dreaming and get to harnessing the power we have collectively and find faith enough in one another like others non-blacks and move an agenda forward that will be blessed by God for increase in our lives. Be blessed.

California State University Dominguez Hills Commemoration Statement As our campus embarks on a yearlong commemoration of the Watts Rebellion of August 1965, it is clear that we must take a position that views the loss of life, arrests, and damages as unfortunate while simultaneously recognizing the humanity and dignity of the residents of Watts and the Greater Los Angeles area. The official language of former CIA Director John McCone’s report to Governor Edmund G. Brown, titled “Violence in the City—An End or a Beginning?,”used “riot” to describe the events of August 1117. It is common for “riot,” “melee,” or “disturbances of the peace” to be the language of city, state, and federal agencies. Such labeling communicates that the activities were unmotivated, apolitical, temper tantrums. The use of “riot” and other such terms supports the McCone Commission Report’s implications that the “riots” were the “rioters’” fault. It assumes that peace, order, and harmony existed before the events and “unruly” people “disturbed the peace.” California State University, Dominguez Hills has selected to term the events differently. Many grassroots organizations in the late ’60s began using “revolt” to describe the August ’65 events. Presently, “uprising” and, more commonly, “rebellion” replace the earlier labels. The new language recognizes, respects and reveres those who refused to accept their marginalized, silenced and invisible condition. When the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his cohorts visited Los Angeles days after, he recalled: “There was joy among the rioters of Watts, not shame. They were completely oblivious to the destruction of property in their wake. They were destroying a physical and emotional jail; they had asserted themselves against a system which was quietly crushing them into oblivion and now they were ‘somebody.’ As one young man put it, ‘We know that a riot is not the answer, but we’ve been down here suffering for a long time and nobody cared. Now at least they know we’re here. A riot may not be the way, but it is a way.’”
In our commemoration of the Watts Rebellion of 1965, it is important that we explore the conditions giving rise to the rebellion such as high unemployment, poor housing, lack of quality education, and policing, to name a few. CSU Dominguez Hills recognizes, however, that an overemphasis on the discriminatory, exploitative, and prejudicial conditions Black residents of Watts and the Greater Los Angeles area experienced unintentionally reproduces a narrative of victimization. Of equal importance and inclusion in our commemoration are praise for the agency and creativity of affected communities during and after the rebellion. We recognize and commend grassroots organizations, community churches and the arts communities as they recreated, reimagined and reconstructed Los Angeles. Included in the rebuilding are the creation of at least three important institutions: Martin Luther King Hospital, Southwest Community College, and CSU Dominguez Hills. In our commemoration, we take note of the oppressive conditions giving rise to the Watts Rebellion, as well as the agency and resistance of the largely Black communities. In addition, we do not victimize the residents of our commemoration with misguided and misleading language such as “riot;” rather we pay tribute to those with courage to “speak truth to power.” Our commemoration also acknowledges the continuities of conditions as well as shifting demographics in Los Angeles over the past 50 years. CSU Dominguez Hills commemorates the Watts Rebellion of 1965 taking stock of where our communities have been, and where we still must go. We commemorate to envision! I Am Sandra Bland By Julianne Malveaux NNPA Columnist Had I ever met Sandra Bland, I am sure I would have liked her. She is described as an advocate for justice who had embraced her purpose to fight racism. She is described as a sister who knew her rights. She was well-educated, assertive, and a resource for her people. She was dragged out of her car for failing to signal a traffic lane change because Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Brian Encinia chose to abuse his power and violate her rights. Because he could. Three days later, Sandra Bland was dead. The police call her death a suicide. Her family is disputing the autopsy. Brian Encinia is responsible for what happened, since there was no reason to arrest Sandra Bland and put her in jail. Sandra Bland was an “uppity” Black woman from suburban Chicago who would not kowtow to Trooper Encinia. Perhaps he preferred a woman who said “yes, sir,” who humbly accepted her ticket. Certainly, while it was not against the law to take a smoke, he preferred that Sandra put her cigarette out. Why? Because he needed to order a woman around who asserted her rights. Because she knew what her rights were. Sandra Bland, the Prairie View A&M University graduate, was stopped in Waller County, Texas for failing to signal at a lane change. She was ordered to put out her cigarette, and she refused. She was told to get out of her car, and she had the nerve to assert her rights and to ask why. Trooper Encinia was clearly exceedingly and outrageously out of order. His voice escalated to unnecessary shouting when he yelled, “I will light you up. Get out. Now. Get out of the car.” He grabbed her, threw her on the ground, and shoved his knee in her back so sharply that evidence of bruising was visible in her autopsy three days later. He arrested her with the false charge of assault because she did not acquiesce to his brutality. Sandra Bland’s You-Tube posts show her as a strong, assertive Black woman who is keenly aware of racial disparities, and committed to social and economic justice. Former police officer Harry Houck, commenting on this case on CNN, described her as “arrogant” because she would not extinguish her cigarette. Houck did not know Sandra Bland, so how did he surmise that she was arrogant? Isn’t that how some
Whites describe Black people when we fail to grovel in the face of their power? What did Trooper Encinia see when arresting Sandra Bland? Did he, like Houck, see a woman who was not intimidated, a woman who, though not rude, was not “humble”? Did she scowl when she was stopped? Probably. Was she unfriendly or ungracious? Possibly. Was she deferential? Not at all. But there is no law that says that someone who gets a ticket is supposed to be grateful. Most folks who get a ticket are annoyed, and have a bit of an attitude. She did not bow and scrape, or say, “Yes massa,” so now she is dead, and Encinia is, at minimum, partly responsible for her death. African American women are often stereotyped as angry Sapphires with chips on their shoulders and a penchant for confrontation. A Black woman doesn’t have to raise her voice or swivel her neck to be considered angry. All she has to do is to express herself, or fail to smile. Perhaps the officer would have preferred a deferential and obedient Sandra Bland. It didn’t happen. So he retaliated. I know Sandra Bland, because she is every woman. She does not conform to the majority culture’s stereotype of what a woman should be. We, Black women, rarely conform. As the late Dorothy Irene Height, president of the National Council of Negro Women, once said, “Black women don’t do what we want to do, we do what we have to do.” Forty-six percent of African American families are female-headed. We do the work. Black unemployment is higher than White unemployment, and Black wages are lower. We do the work. We work harder for less pay than other women. In the words of Fannie Lou Hamer, we are “sick and tired of being sick and tired.” Sandra Bland accepted her calling to fight for justice. Her posts show a woman who would not yield to racism. She is not dead because she failed to signal when she changed lanes. She is dead because she knew and asserted her rights. Every woman who is an activist is Sandra Bland, the Christian, the organizer, the advocate for justice. She is dead because she dared talk back to a brutal officer. Sandra Bland is every assertive Black woman. I am Sandra Bland. Julianne Malveaux is an author and economist. She can be reached via www.juliannemalveaux.com -

Michael Has Company By Israel J. Matthews Contributing Writer Hello again this is Mr. Israel Matthews and I hope you liked last week’s story and now I hope you also enjoy this week’s story. Its called “Michael Has Company”. Mom was talking to Michael about her going to a meeting for work on the weekend. But mom always went to Ronald’s Fun Park on the weekends and he said that he was too old for a babysitter. Mom said, “We can go there another day and you are too young to stay home by yourself.” So mom called the babysitter but Michael did not want one. Mom said, “ We will go to the beach tomorrow.” Michael said, "okay". When the babysitter arrived Michael thought the babysitter was going to be boring but when mom left she said, “ "Wanna make some popcorn." "Lets see a movie." Michael said, "sure" since he I didn’t have anything else to do. But then she ordered him some pizza which was really good. She was really fun after all. The sad part was that she was leaving because mom came home but she promised Michael that she’d come back plus he would get to go to the beach tomorrow. Michael had a blast of a good time. The end. I hope you liked it. God bless!!!! (:

HEALTH & COMMUNITY NEWS Supervisor Ridley-Thomas Says “It’s a New Day at MLK” During Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Calling it “a promise fulfilled,” Supervisor Mark RidleyThomas led a historic dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday for the new Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital. “It’s a new day at MLK, but an even better one is coming,” he vowed to the crowd, estimated at about 1,300 people, who came to witness the long-awaited event. “A new era in healthcare delivery has begun.” The 131-bed community hospital opened its doors last month, eight years after the closure of troubled King/Drew Medical Center. Its mission: providing compassionate, innovative and quality care to the 1.35 million residents of South Los Angeles – regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay. “Your health is our top priority,” said Manuel Abascal, chairman of the hospital’s Board of Directors. “This is a hospital of the people, for the people, by the people.”

Naive Jeopardy By Dean L. Jones, CPM Rarely do we question the sensitivity or susceptibility to ingesting processed sugar. Particularly, in contrast to the number of inquiries made about negative reactions to ingesting eggs, soy, peanuts, shellfish, milk, gluten, etc., which are commonly shared long before considering how eating or drinking sugary-filled items may affect the mind and body. One manner of how people are susceptible to over-consuming sugary items comes about for those born with low betaEndorphins, one of five human endorphins that actually generate low self-esteem. A person with a low beta-Endorphin condition can be compelled to seek things to ingest that might help them feel better from a depressed state of being. Unfortunately, there are bad consequences from taking short cuts to reach a higher level by using such substances like alcohol, tobacco, cocaine, heroin, morphine, codeine and/or taking on troubling behavioral experiences such as gambling. Eating items containing processed sugar affects the body’s beta-endorphin levels just like those harmful substances previously mentioned, particularly on young developing brains. This is important because a person can literally get addicted to consuming sugary foodstuff. A major problem with attempting to get a high from sugary foodstuff is that it wears off and is usually followed by a crash or withdrawal feelings. Sugary items are too often used to create a higher level of perceived energy; nevertheless the facts bear it out that overt sugar consumption is linked to developing both depression and schizophrenia conditions, among numerous other illnesses. This is due to how ingesting processed sugar can suppress protein production, thereby causing a brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), blocking a key growth hormone. There is such an overwhelming obsession to sugary products that people go out of their way to get it. That is because sugar

Dean L. Jones choices are vastly promoted and eating too much magnifies the associated dangers. Naively, foodstuff choices place us in jeopardy of illness from other sources including high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) and starches in the form of potatoes and grains. [The pervasive cereal and sugary milk combo is treacherous] For some, sugar addiction will drive them to spend money on discontinued sugary foodstuff. For instance, a 20-oz. bottle of Surge (originally sold in stores from 1996 to 2002) was auctioned on eBay for $250. A Josta soda (made by Pepsi from 1995 to 1999) also sold on online for $250. Two 12-can soda packs of Vault sold for more than $130, and a 16-oz. bottle of Crystal Pepsi (1992 - 1993) is being sold on eBay today for $125. Sugar addiction is a real physiologically and sociologically troubled state of affairs. Addiction of any kind is distressing and regrettably the mind and body can acquire long-term negative drawbacks from ingesting processed sugar. Lusting after sugary product promotions is potentially a situation of naive jeopardy, and for that reason it is essential to live SugarAlert! www.SugarAlert.com Dean Jones is an Ethics Advocate, Southland Partnership Corporation (a public benefit organization), contributing his view on certain aspects of foodstuff.

Further investment is coming to South LA. The Supervisor has directed the county to look into possibly bringing back a Level I Trauma Center to one of South Los Angeles’ hospitals. On the MLK Medical Campus, construction is either underway, or planned, on a recuperative care center where homeless patients can stay after being discharged from the hospital; a medical office building for doctors; an autism center, community garden, bike paths and walking trails. Around the campus, Metro’s Rosa Parks/Willowbrook bus and train stations are also slated for significant upgrades. So are the local public library, senior center, and Kenneth Hahn Plaza.

NEWS Taxi Driver Fined $25K for Refusing to Pick Up Black Executive and Her Kids MIDTOWN — A yellow taxi driver must pay $25,000 in fines and compensation for discriminating against a black family by refusing to pick them up but then letting two white passengers get into his ride, a city administrative judge ruled last week. Cabbie Baqir Raza was hit with the penalty for telling Cynthia Jordan and her two daughters outside Macy’s in Midtown that he was off-duty when they tried to hail him, according to the judge’s decision. Raza locked the doors to his cab, preventing the family from getting in, but then drove about 25 feet and picked up two white female passengers, the decision says. “I’m always out with my young daughter trying to grab a cab,” she said. “There is nothing threatening about us and you should see how many people drive right past us.” On Oct. 19, 2013, she and her two daughters had taken
the LIRR from their Queens home to Manhattan to attend her brother-in-law’s birthday party. After exiting Penn Station, they walked to 35th Street and Seventh Avenue to grab a cab near Macy’s. Jordan’s daughter, Chiley Holder, spotted Raza pull his taxi over and allow a passenger to exit. His on-duty roof light was on, but Raza locked the door when Holder tried to open it, according to the decision. He told her that he was taking a break and switched on his off-duty light. Raza then drove 25 feet and picked up two white women, the decision says. “Upon seeing what was transpiring, Ms. Jordan ran up to the cab and exclaimed, ‘Are you kidding me? You picked up these two … white bitches … instead of me and my family. I’m gonna report you,” Judge Kramer wrote in his decision. Jordan said Raza wasn't fazed by her threat to call the city Taxi and Limousine Commis-
sion. “He said, ‘Yeah, go ahead and report me,’” Jordan recalled. At the urging of Holder, who works for the city’s 311 system, Jordan filed a complaint with TLC and the Human Rights Commission. Raza paid a $200 fine to the TLC in November 2013 after pleading guilty to a violation for refusing to pick up Jordan. However, the city’s Commission on Human Rights brought charges against Raza at the OATH hearing overseen by Judge Kramer. The commission must still approve Kramer’s recommendation for the $25,000 in penalties. Raza, who lives on Staten Island, declined to comment when contacted at home Thursday. Jordan said she hopes the stiff fines will teach Raza a lesson. “You don’t have impunity to do whatever you do,” she said. “If you drive a cab, then drive a cab and pick up all fares. That’s what you're supposed to do.”

NATIONAL/STATE & REGIONAL NEWS Compton Mayor Aja Brown Statement on Dr. Dre’s Announcement He’s Donating Royalties From New ‘Compton’Album to Fund Youth and Performing Arts Center in Compton COMPTON, CA – Pioneering rapper and producer Andre Young, more commonly known as Dr. Dre, announced on Beats 1 radio today that he will be donating all of his artist royalties earned from his new album Compton, to help fund a new performing arts and entertainment facility in Compton. “I'm honored that Mr. Young has decided to make a significant investment in his community,” said Mayor Aja Brown. “He clearly has a heart for Compton, especially our youth. I believe this performing arts center will provide a pathway for creative expression, exposure and training to the myriad of industries that support arts, entertainment and technology—while providing a much-needed safe haven for our youth. Children in urban communities suffer from posttraumatic stress syndrome in higher proportions than veterans and they need therapeutic outlets, which arts and drama has proven to provide. Compton is a special place and I believe this center will harness our ingenuity and transform our community from within for generations to come.
I think it's critical to note that people are not entitled to give. Entitlement is a disease that cripples empowerment. The key to harnessing investment is viability and return on investment. We look forward to working with Dr. Dre and his team to develop an amazing place for our community.” Quoted in Rolling Stones Magazine Dr. Dre said of the announcement, "I feel it's the right thing to do and I hope everybody appreciates the work I put into this album. We've reached out to Aja Brown quite a few times in the last month or two. I've been really trying to do something special for Compton and just couldn't quite figure out what it was. She actually had this idea and she was already in the process of working on it. I said, 'Boom, this is what we should do.'" Known as the “Hub City” for its unique position in almost the exact geographical center of Los Angeles County, Compton is a city of just under 100,000 that covers approximately 10.2 square miles. Compton is strategically located along the Alameda Corri-

State of the Media: Audio Today-A Focus on Black and Hispanic Audiences Audio is everywhere these days in America - available on multiple platforms from our smart cars to our smartphones, reaching consumers from all walks of life in more than 250 local markets. This quarter we find that the national radio audience has hit an all-time high for the second year in a row: 245 million Americans, more than 91% of
those 12 or older, are using radio in a given week. The power of radio is evident not just as a whole, but also within the diverse communities of listeners stretching from coast to coast. In this quarter’s report, we focus on the record 71.7 million blacks and Hispanics who combine to account for almost a third (29.3%) of the national average quarter
hour (AQH) audience. These black and Hispanic consumers spend more time with radio each week than any other group, and possess enormous buying power for advertisers looking to reach a qualified audience when they are away from home and in the marketplace ready to purchase. Source: Nielsen

ART/ENTERTAINMENT & SPORTS NEWS How a Game of Dare Changed Eddie Griffin’s Life
Low-Budget Moving
By Madlen Grgodjaian From the California Black Media
Hauling & Delivery Service
Funnyman Eddie Griffin has performed on stages across the country, starred in a successful television show, and graced the screen in some of Tinsel Town’s funniest roles. Currently, the 46-year-old has residency at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas performing stand-up, and on August 22 he and some of his funniest friends will hit the stage at the Forum in Los Angeles, as a part of the “Black and Brown Comedy Get Down” tour. Griffin told California Black Media that all of his success wouldn’t have happened if he hadn’t agreed to a dare decades ago. Griffin, a native of Kansas City, MO said he was always known as the class clown no matter what midwestern classroom he found himself in. He said he began listening to the comedy albums of Richard Pryor and Bill Cosby when he was 14years-old. Griffin said the two comedy geniuses were his inspiration.“Listening to their albums made me happy,” he said. Four years later he took the stage at a Kansas City comedy venue called Stanford and Sons and made people more than happy. He had the room rolling with laughter. All after a cousin dared him to go on-stage during an open mic night. “He said he’d give me $50 if I went on stage, so I did,” said Griffin. He was only supposed to perform for three minutes, instead the burgeoning comic had the crowd busting guts and falling out of their seats in laughter for 45 minutes. It was Griffin’s first time performing in front of a crowd and it ended with him receiving a standing ovation. It was apparent to everyone in the room Griffin had a gift for making people laugh. Not long after, Griffin said he purchased a one-way ticket to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of being a successful comedian. Griffin went to Southern California without a job or a place to live, so he was homeless for about two months. “I had three to four jobs and lived in a shack in downtown Los Angeles,” said Griffin. Things began to change for Griffin within a few short months upon his arrival. He auditioned for Misty Shore, the mother of actor Paulie

Eddie Griffin Shore and the owner of the world famous, Comedy Store on Hollywood’s Sunset Boulevard. Griffin remembers what Shore told him after his showcase. “You have more talent in your pinky than most performers I’ve seen,” he recalls Shore telling him. He was instantly hired to perform nightly and work the door. He caught the attention of many famous comedians once he started performing. One of which was Andrew Dice Clay. Griffin would go on to open for Clay on a national 22-city tour. He soon became a household name and in 1997 recorded his first HBO special, “Voodoo Child,” which was shot at the renowned Apollo Theater in New York. Griffin was then offered his very own television show, “Malcolm and Eddie,” and in 2000 won the NAACP Image Award for Best Actor in a Comedy Series. He transitioned to the big screen and appeared in movies such as “Double Take,” “John Q,” and “Undercover Brother.” Griffin has appeared in various television shows, has recorded specials for HBO and Comedy
Central, and has over 50 movies under his belt. Over his career, Griffin has portrayed everything from a low-rent pimp in 1999’s “Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo” to drug addicted dice player in the “Chappelle’s Show’s” cult favorite “World Series of Dice” skit. Griffin said when he began his journey to comedic fame he was out to make his dreams a reality. “Fight till the day you take your last breath,” has always been his motto. In Los Angeles, Griffin will perform with Cedric The Entertainer, Mike Epps, George Lopez, D.L. Hughley, and Charlie Murphy. Attendees should expect nothing short of a good laugh with some really hard-hitting topics. “You don’t want to miss out on the biggest comedy tour of 2015,” he said. Griffin said he lives his life by the principles of live, laugh, and love. “Christians say, Jesus is the messenger. Muslims say, Mohammed is the messenger. I say, I don’t care who the messenger is, did you get the message?” he said.
