Major Tobacco Distributor Sentenced To Five Years For $16 Million Excise SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Moo Hoon “Steve” Kim, 54, of Cypress, was sentenced today to five years in prison and ordered to pay over $16 million in restitution for mail fraud related to a scheme to avoid paying excise tax on tobacco products, Acting United States Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced. According to court documents, between 2006 and 2009, Kim was responsible for bringing over $35 million in untaxed other tobacco products (“OTP”) into California. OTP is any tobacco product other than cigarettes and consists primarily of cigars, chewing tobacco, and leaf tobacco. A federal jury found Kim guilty after a seven–day trial in March 2015 before United States District Judge William B. Shubb. The evidence at trial showed that Kim used front companies, set up by others at his direction, to disguise his illegal purchases and subsequent sales of untaxed OTP from out-of-state sources. These companies included KS Wholesale in Vernon, California, and Cheap Cig Distributor in Paramount, California. Kim also used another front company – Discounted Tobacco in Long Beach, California – as a retail outlet for some of the untaxed OTP that he sold through his company, Jobber’s Wholesale. As a result of Kim’s scheme, California was defrauded of over $16 million in excise taxes. A large percentage of the revenue from the excise tax is used to fund California’s early childhood development program, First 5 California. “Many resources were utilized to combat the unlawful trafficking of tobacco products by Moo Hoo Kim who was ultimately found guilty of mail fraud,” said Special Agent in Charge Jill A. To date, 27 defendants have been sentenced in 16 criminal cases. Over $50 million in restitution has been ordered to be repaid to BOE. Nineteen civil forfeiture cases have resulted in over $16 million in assets seized for repayment to BOE for lost tax revenue. For the last several years, these offices have supported a task force dedicated to combating the systemic problem of tobacco excise tax evasion in California. In 2007, the BOE estimated that the state lost approximately $90 million in unstamped tobacco excise taxes to contraband distributors and approximately $120 million in excise taxes for taxed stamped tobacco like cigarettes. Because California has a relatively high tobacco excise tax rate, it is a frequent target for contraband tobacco smugglers and tax evaders. Assistant United States Attorney Michael D. Anderson and U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division Trial Attorney Richard A. Powers, designated as a Special Assistant United States Attorney, prosecuted the case.

Supervisor Ridley-Thomas said during Tuesday’s Board meeting, where more than 150 members of the public testified in support of his motion. “It won’t get better unless we have significant intervention,” he added. “Each member of this Board has said repeatedly that one-time funding isn’t sufficient. Now it’s time to get on with the rigorous exploration of the kind of funding that would be
social services, health and public safety infrastructure. Since adopting a sweeping set of strategies February to address the worsening crisis, the Board has been weighing options for funding. This includes redirecting Measure B revenue, or imposing a parcel tax, a marijuana tax, a half-cent sales tax, or a half-percent tax on personal income exceeding $1 million a year.
A recent poll found 76 percent of likely voters favor the last option – a “dramatic level of support,” pollster David Binder told the Board. The Board, however, does not currently have the authority to put such an initiative on the November ballot. Supervisors Ridley-Thomas and Kuehl’s motion, which passed with the support of Supervisor Hilda Solis, launches the County’s efforts to seek that authority from the state Legislature and Governor. “Our actions show that the Board is strongly committed to finding the long-term funding needed to implement the County’s innovative and comprehensive Homelessness Initiative,” Supervisor Kuehl said. “The friendly amendment I introduced this week also allows us to evaluate the interaction of this possible County tax with a new state bond proposal which could build housing in the County.” The Board also approved Tuesday a measure by Supervisors Solis and Don Knabe that would delve into how the
County uses existing funding to serve the homeless. Supervisor Ridley-Thomas expressed support, saying, “It continues our long-term efforts to always ensure we are leveraging existing resources as effectively as possible.” More than 150 people testified before the Board to support continued efforts to address the homelessness crisis. Hello Readers , Praise God, we made it through another week. We must give God the glory for He has kept us and brought us this far by his grace and His mercy. We are hearing some really crazy stuff going on when it comes to our presidential candidates in these United States of America. It sounds more like a reality TV show than an actual presidential election. We need to pray and trust God in the midst of what is going on because if we look at the scene being played out it appears that people of color are the problem while White America has been victimized by them and therefore they are going to take back their country and they’ve chosen Donald Trump to be the trump card to help them in their endeavor to take back America to the good old days. Well, for one thing the good old days did not include Blacks but openly excluded them from all areas of every day life other than to be chattel property. Do we want to go back to being someone personal property. Then we need to be mindful when people talk about going back to the way it was.

Lyin’ Donald Trump is the Biggest Liar By George E. Curry George Curry Media Columnist When Senator Ted Cruise was running for president, Donald Trump, now the presumptive Republican nominee, enjoyed referring to him as “lyin’ Ted Cruise.” At one rally, he said, “Lyin’ Ted Cruise – L-y-i-n-dash.” Actually, he should have said “apostrophe” instead of “dash,” but accuracy is not important to Trump. Fact checkers have determined that of all the presidential candidates, present and departed, Donald Trump is the biggest liar. “PolitiFact has been documenting Trump’s statements on our Truth-O-Meter, where we’ve rated 76 percent of them Mostly False, False or Pants on Fire, out of 77 statements checked,” the Pulitzer Prizewinning fact check site stated. “No other politician has as many statements rated so far down on the dial.” Trump came out of the gate lying. “When Trump declared his candidacy on June 16, 2015, PolitiFact looked at five statements from his announcement speech. All of them were inaccurate, the website said. And things have not gotten any better since. PolitiFact noted, “When it comes to inaccurate statements, the Donald was on fire: * ‘I watched when the World Trade Center came tumbling down,’ he said at a Nov. 21 rally in Birmingham, Ala. ‘And I watched in Jersey City, N.J., where thousands and thousands of people were cheering as that building was coming down. Thousands of people were cheering.’ Pants on Fire. There is no video of thousands of people in Jersey City cheering. Weeks later, Trump continues to stand by his claim but has not been able to point to evidence to back it up. Public safety officials on the ground in New Jersey say it never happened. * ‘The Mexican government … they send the bad ones over.’ Pants on Fire. There’s no evidence to show the Mexican government encourages criminals to cross the border. Most illegal immigration comes from people seeking work. Recent estimates show illegal immigration from Mexico dropped off dramatically during the recession and has remained low. * ‘Whites killed by whites – 16%. Whites killed by blacks – 81%,’ said an image he shared on Twitter. Pants on Fire. Most people are killed by someone they know, and someone of the same race. The correct number for whites killed by whites was 82 percent in 2014, while the number of whites killed by blacks was 15 percent.” FactCheck.org, like PolitiFact, has found many of Trump’s assertions to be lies. For example, it reported, “As CNN’s Jake Tapper explains in his latest fact-checking video, there is no evidence that Hillary Clinton started rumors during the 2008 presidential race that Barack Obama was not born in the United States.
“Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, repeated the false claim that Clinton was the original “birther” during a May 4 interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer. Trump said Clinton ‘questioned his birth certificate’ and ‘brought it up years before it was brought up by me.'” Not only was Trump one of the original birthers, he said he sent a team of private investigators to Hawaii to look into the falsehood, saying Obama allegedly not being born in the U.S. was “one of the greatest cons in the history of politics and beyond.” Of course, that was dispelled when Obama produced his original birth certificate. Trump also tells a lot of lies and half-truths about the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The Washington Post observed that Trump repeatedly associates the trade agreement with Bill Clinton, but that’s only half true. “Bill Clinton was certainly a supporter of NAFTA who pushed approval through Congress. But it was negotiated and signed by President George H.W. Bush. (Here’s a photo.),” the Post said. “Moreover, more Republicans than Democrats voted for the deal, as the trade pact was vehemently opposed by labor unions. One key ally for Clinton was then-House Minority Whip (and later House speaker) Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.), who is said to be on Trump’s list of possible running mates.” It continued, “So Clinton did not negotiate NAFTA, nor did he sign it. But he did put his political prestige on the line to get it approved by Congress – even as two top Democrats, House Majority Leader Richard Gephardt (Mo.) and House Majority Whip David Bonior (Mich.), opposed it. In the House, NAFTA passed 234-200; 132 Republicans and 102 Democrats voted in favor of it. The Senate approved NAFTA 61-38, with the backing of 34 Republicans and 27 Democrats. “In both the House and the Senate, more Democrats voted against NAFTA than for it – a signal that the Bernie Sanders wing of the Democratic Party was strong even then.” PolitiFact noted, “Trump hasn’t apologized or backtracked on his statements. Instead, when challenged, he offers flimsy explanations and suggests he shouldn’t be held accountable – or simply insists he’s right. “‘People maybe call me out, but they turn out to be wrong, also,’ he said in an interview Sunday with George Stephanopoulos. ‘And many of the things I’ve said – and I think just about all of them – they may have been controversial at one point, George, but they’re not controversial in the end, because people start to say, you know, Trump’s actually right.'” Not surprisingly, that, too, is a lie. Let’s Stop the Bleeding By James Clingman There is a crisis of monumental proportion in our socalled “Black communities;” a crisis that if not checked will prove to be our demise. We are bleeding so badly that we are in a comatose state and on life support right now. But we still have a strong heartbeat; so we can be revived by those who have the financial and intellectual talents and the willingness to make the requisite individual sacrifices necessary to restore us to a more healthy state. A cadre of individuals, not featured in the dominant media, is devoted to leading the charge for economic empowerment among Black people. These brothers and sisters are not afraid; they are not ashamed of being Black; they are not hiding behind organizations and in corporations; they are strong and unwavering in their message of economic empowerment. They are our Emergency Medical Technicians, the first ones on the scene to stop the bleeding and take us to a place where we can be treated and recover from our wounds. Yes, we are bleeding profusely brothers and sisters, and we must stop the bleeding, not with a Band-Aid but with stitches. Our lifeblood—our dollars are flowing out of our neighborhoods. The professionals call this phenomenon “float” or “expenditure leakage,” which translates into what the experts at the Brookings Institution called a “market opportunity to provide competitively priced goods and services to inner-city consumers.” A 1999 report issued by the Center on Urban and Metropolitan Policy, written by Robert Weissbourd and Christopher Berry, cited some glaring and, quite frankly, embarrassingly stark statistics that portray Black people as nothing more than “economic opportunities” for others. Please note the report was not casting aspersions on Black folks, rather it was simply pointing out some facts about inner-city neighborhoods and their consumers and suggesting ways that businesses and government entities could better serve the residents as well as their own interests. It stressed investment opportunities within underserved neighborhoods and was positive in its approach to suggesting ways to effect much needed change. Nevertheless, my take on this issue conjured up visions of massive hemorrhaging, and it very strongly suggested that we need to stop the bleeding. The report compared one of Chicago’s Southside neighbor-
hoods to the affluent northern neighborhood of Kenilworth. It stated, “…urban neighborhoods like South Shore in Chicago have more buying power than the wealthiest of suburbs. South Shore’s median family income was $22,000 back then; Kenilworth’s was $124,000. But South Shore had $69,000 of retail spending ‘power per acre,’ nearly twice that of Kenilworth’s $38,000.” That means inner city residents, despite their tremendous resources, are virtually bleeding to death. Literally millions of dollars are leaving our neighborhoods, which in turn, also negatively affects our employment opportunities. It continued, “For business, this translates into lost sales, or what marketers call ‘float dollars.’ For inner city residents, these are ‘float jobs,’ as crucial dollars that could employ local residents and fuel the neighborhood economy are spent elsewhere.” The only thing that has changed during the last sixteen years is our collective annual income, which is much higher. The problem is that we don’t learn from information like this and use it to improve our situation. We are bleeding, brothers and sisters, and our blood is Type O, the “universal donor”—everybody benefits from it. We have EMT’s ready, willing, and able to apply the tourniquets and even to stitch up our wounds. It’s up to us, however, to access their expertise, to follow their instructions, and to take the prescriptions they write for us. If we are going to stop the bleeding, if we are going to put an end, once and for all, to the preventable loss of life blood – our dollars – from our neighborhoods, we must make the changes being recommended by our true economic leaders. We must consider our “spending power per acre” as cited in the Brookings Report, just as others are considering it and gaining a stronger economic foothold in the billions Black people earn and spend each year. We must redirect a greater portion of our $1.2 billion aggregate annual income back to ourselves via our own businesses, and we must develop a culture of wealth retention, a culture of collective economic empowerment among our people, regardless of where we reside. “Being poor doesn’t always mean being without resources. Anacostia is one of the poorest neighborhoods in Washington, D.C., yet the total income of all its households is $370 million per year. The principal affliction of poor communities in the United States is not the absence of money, but its systematic exit.” Michael Shuman, Going Local So, put the Band-Aids away; we need sutures. EDUCATION & COMMUNITY NEWS The U.S. News/Raytheon STEM Index Shows America Will Have to Depend on Foreign Workers to Fill STEM Jobs WASHINGTON, / PRNewswire-USNewswire/ - The U.S. will be dependent on foreign workers to fill future STEM jobs, according to analysis of the third annual U.S. News/Raytheon STEM Index, unveiled recently at usnews.com/stemindex. While the 2016 STEM Index shows increases in STEM degrees granted and STEM hiring, America continues to have a shortage of STEM workers. There were 30,835 additional STEM graduates and 230,246 additional STEM jobs from 2014-2015. "While our universities are producing more STEM graduates, many of these students are foreigners on temporary visas," said Brian Kelly, editor and chief content officer of U.S. News. "Despite significant public and private investment, we are still not developing an American STEM workforce to fill the jobs of the future. It's clear that we need to focus our efforts on getting more kids,
particularly women and African-Americans, interested in pursuing STEM at a young age." The STEM Index, developed exclusively by U.S. News & World Report with support from Raytheon, provides a national snapshot of STEM jobs and education. The index measures key indicators of economic- and education-related STEM activity in the United States since the year 2000. Key findings on America's STEM workforce from the 2016 U.S. News/ Raytheon STEM Index: STEM degrees granted and STEM jobs and salaries are all increasing: There was a 6 percent increase in STEM graduate degrees granted and a 5 per-
cent increase in all STEM degrees granted. STEM jobs have increased much faster than overall employment: 28 percent since 2000 compared to 6 percent for all jobs. Computer jobs hold the top seven positions for the highest number of employees. 3 out of 5 of the highest paying STEM salaries are in IT-related fields. Information Systems Managers have a yearly salary of $141,000; Computer Research Scientists are paid $115,580; and Computer Hardware Engineers make $114,970. Gaps between men and women in engineering and technology fields are deeply entrenched, starting as
early as high school. Gender gaps persist in higher education: Across the board, men expressed more interest than women in STEM subjects, with dramatic differences in engineering. Four percent of high school females reported an interest in engineering, compared to 34 percent of males. Two percent of girls reported an interest in technology, while 18 percent of boys expressed an interest in the field. On Advanced Placement tests, a higher percentage of male students scored a three or higher compared to females in all STEM subjects; on the SATs, males of all demographics scored on average 30 points higher on the math section than females. Only 3 percent of associate degrees and 8 percent of bachelor's degrees granted to females were in a STEM field. By contrast, 8 percent of associate degrees and 13 percent of bachelor's degrees granted to males were in STEM fields. At the graduate level, only 6 percent of graduate degrees earned by females
were in STEM fields. Of graduate degrees granted to males, 11 percent were STEM degrees. Despite some gains, particularly among Hispanic students, gaps between whites and non-Asian minorities in STEM are apparent in high school and continue into college and graduate school: The number of STEM degrees awarded to Hispanic students showed large increases at all education levels since last year. From 2014-2015 there was a 9 percent increase in two- year degrees in STEM, a 13 percent increase in bachelor's degrees in STEM, and an 8 percent increase in graduate degrees in STEM. On the SAT, black students scored an average of 106 points lower than white students and 170 points lower than Asian students on the math section. The number of white students who earned STEM degrees grew 15 percent in the last five years, while the number of black students fell by roughly the same margin. Across all demographic groups, interest in mathematics has declined. Cybersecurity is arguably the most critical workforce need, and demand for these jobs is outpacing the overall IT job market. home. REALTORS® asked Congress to say no to tax reform that repeals the property tax deduction. Like-Kind Exchanges: For nearly a century, the Section 1031provision has encouraged growth by permitting real estate held for investment to be exchanged for property of a like-kind on a tax-deferred basis. Exchanges are essential to the commercial real estate sector and to the economy. If repealed, fewer redevelopment projects will go forward, and fewer jobs will be created. The like-kind exchange provision provides liquidity to an illiquid asset. Repealing would harm economic growth. Insurance Issues: H.R. 2901 will make it easier for homeowners to use private mortgage insurance and preserve the National Flood Insurance Program. H.R. 2901 would allow homeowners to switch between private flood insurance and the NFIP and still be considered "covered." Right now, if a property owner uses private flood insurance and changes to the NFIP program, they are counted as not having prior insurance. In some instances, this can cause them to have a higher premium. While H.R. 2901 doesn't fully solve the problem of the lack of availability of flood insurance, it is a step towards making private flood insurance more competitive with the NFIP. Housing Finance Inssues: California Association of REALTORS® and National Asso-
ciation of REALTORS® continue to support efforts that ensure that qualified borrowers have access to safe and affordable mortgage financing, as well as legislation that prohibits guarantee fees (g-fees) from being extended, increased, and diverted for unrelated government spending. H.R. 4893 and S.752 both would prohibit the use of g-fees for offsetting the costs other provisions that increase the deficit. Just a 10 basis point increase in the g-fee will cost the average California homebuyer more than $8,000 over the life of the loan. Ruth A. NEWS 17-Year Old Black Student Facing Serious Charges After His White Classmate Sends Him a Naked Video of Herself Bossier City, LA — Levar Allen, a 17-year-old student athlete at Parkway High School in south Bossier City, Louisiana, is now facing serious charges that could lead to time in prison after his 16-year old classmate sent him naked footage of herself. Reportedly, she sent Levar a nude video first and then he responded by sending her one in return. But when her parents found out, they reported it to the police. Allen has since been arrested and is facing child porn charges, but the girl has not been arrested or charged. Her name has not even been released to the media. When asked if this was a racial issues, Lt. Bill Davis, the Public Information Officer for the Sheriff’s officer, told reporters: “I have nothing to say about that. It doesn’t matter what your race, what your reli-

Reportedly, Allen has been released from prison on a $15,000 bond, but still has to face the charges in a court of law. His family says they expect to pay at least $4,000 in legal fees for his case. Meanwhile, the 16year old girl who sent him the video has yet to be arrested or charged.

NATIONAL/STATE & REGIONAL NEWS System Once Opposed By Norfolk Black Leaders: At-Large Voting Scores Historic Win By Leonard E. Colvin From New Journal and Guide Now that Norfolk has elected its first Black mayor, an assessment of how the city overcame its resistance to such progress is taking place. At the same time the Mayor-elect, State Senator Kenneth C. Alexander, is seeking to define how he will lead the city forward politically and economically. Historians, political activists and analysts who thrive on using numbers to tell the story of a political victory, have begun the post mortem on how Alexander wrote this significant chapter in the city’s history book. Norfolk, during the recent decades, has sought to overcome parts of its antiprogressive legacy, including the closing of seven of its allWhite public schools in the late 1950s rather than desegregate them. In 1998, leaders of the city’s NAACP and a group called the Concerned Citizens for Political Education, were skeptical of an effort to elect the city’s mayor at-large due to polarized racial voting patterns and the historic low turnout from Blacks From the end of Reconstruction to the 1968, although they tried, no African-

American was elected to council until Joseph Jordan. Eventually, despite the at-large system, two Blacks would sit on council until the ward system was adopted in 1991 and enabled the election of three Blacks to that panel. But while there were Black leaders who were skeptical of a mayor being elected atlarge, there were those who believed it was doable, instead of having council appoint the city’s mayor. In a January 21, 1998 edition of the Guide, Paul Riddick, one of the first Blacks elected to Norfolk City Council in 1992 under the ward system is quoted as saying about the ward system, “A lot of people are wondering if this is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. “They wonder if this is a grand conspiracy, down the road, to weaken the
ward system and then go back to the at-large system.” “But we must be careful not to overact to these ideas,” he said 28 years ago. “Some kid sitting in the sixth grade who may be Black or female and may have, as a dream, the desire to be mayor one day may benefit from such an (at-large) system,” Riddick said prophetically. At that time Kenneth C. Alexander was a leader in the Beacon Light Civic League and running a funeral home he inherited from his father. Riddick was reminded, by this reporter, that he mentioned Alexander as one of those aspiring civic leaders who could lead Norfolk in the coming years. “Norfolk has turned it around as we see,” said Riddick. “We see that the racial dynamics changed. There are younger voters who were wiling to endorse a candidate who is qualified and has the skills to lead our city.”’ If Riddick’s views were prophetic so was the longstanding view that a large turn out among Blacks, joining Whites could support a “skilled” Black candidate to ascension to the city’s top political job. the majority Black Super ward 7. He did well even in the Ward 6 precincts won by either of his opponents who were White. He also won a majority of the absentee ballots (460) cast prior to the election. Many of the precincts where he lost, Alexander ran close enough to the eventual winner to add to his overall tally across the city to dominate the race quickly on election night. There are some 115,132 residents eligible to vote in Norfolk. Of that number 31,832 or 27.65 percent of them went to the polls. The Norfolk Office of Elections had projected a turn out of about 27 to 30 percent which was slightly higher than the previous spring municipal election. Alexander, a State Senator, said he officially kicked off his campaign on March 14, the day the General Assembly ended its 2016 session and began criss-crossing the city cultivating support for his campaign. Alexander represents Senate District 5, which has about 200,000 residents. Norfolk has a population of some 243,000 plus residents. “So my district is about as large as the city of Norfolk,” said Alexander. “As senator I deal with education, economic development, public safety…all of the issues which the mayor of Norfolk will face. A lot of people already knew my record and who I was as a business man.” “In a six-week period after I came back home from Richmond, I spent all of two of them working the mostly White section of the city,” he said. “Then I began to devote attention to Ward 7 and the Black section of the city. “So by the end of the campaign I had support among White, Black, Hispanic, Gay, poor and rich voters of this city,” said Alexander. “I was not elected just by Black votes and I will lead this city to include everyone once I take office.” Before the election, with two White candidates bidding for White support, there was an assumption that they would split that segment of the electorate, leaving the Black voters to coalesce around Alexander’s candidacy. Councilman Andy Protogyrou and Sheriff Bob McCabe, political analysts point out, managed to pull some 15,298 votes collectively. Throughout the campaign, Councilman Protogyrou mailed out campaign literature that highlighted the negatives of his two opponents. Some political watchers believe it was his effort to lure White voters away from Sheriff McCabe to compensate for those White voters who were poised to support Alexander. “I am not surprised at the extent of our victory or some of the negativity which was seen throughout the campaign,” said Alexander. “We ran a very
clean and evidence-based campaign which connected to the voter. I ran as an agent of change. I was not surprised at him going negative. But we see that I was not his (Protogyrou’s) problem; it was McCabe.” Protogyrou received 8,022 votes (25.2) and 7,276 (22.6) for McCabe. Or a difference of 746 votes. Alexander said that he has a basic list of issues he wants to pursue during his first tenure as mayor. “Education is important. It impacts our economy and our families,” said Alexander. “We have 19 of our schools with accreditation problems, and we have issues with retention and graduation rates. The council has signed off on the school division’s budget every year. But there has to be some accountability, and we need to see results as we move forward.” Alexander says he believes in a wholistic approach to deal with the city’s educational woes, including encouraging greater parental involvement in their child’s educational experience. He said the city of Norfolk must increase the pay and support systems of its teachers to compete with adjacent locales. During the course of the campaign, several episodes of gun violence and police shootings of civilians were recorded. Alexander said he must address the issues by removing guns from the streets of the city as one solution. One idea is a gun buyback program which is used by several communities that have been plagued with Black on Black homicides and street violence. Alexander said he will be working to lure more employment opportunities to the city. He said he will be working with state and federal officials to address warnings of flooding of the city due to global warming in the future. Alexander will be sworn in as the city’s next mayor on July 1. He is soon to resign from his Senate seat and there are politicians already gearing up campaigns to replace him. Andy Protogyrou will have to resign from his Ward 2 seat since he ran for mayor, and in the coming months, a special election must be held to replace him. After July 1, there will be four women – two of them African-Americans, and two Black males – Alexander and Councilman Riddick – on council. Martin Thomas and Johnson Andrews have filed papers signaling their intent to run for the Protogyrou’s Ward 2 seat, and after the election along with Tommy Smigel, there could be two White males on council. Norfolk will have one of the most diverse city councils in the region. Alexander said he will listen and build consensus among his seven colleagues on many issues facing the council once he takes office. “I have been in the Virginia General Assembly working with 140 different strong personalities and temperaments,” said Alexander.

The Debbie Allen Dance Academy is a nonprofit organization that offers dance curriculum to students ages 4 and up.
