I’m a Part 2 graduate architect from UCD’s M.Arch. program in Dublin with immediate availability to work / interview in Ireland. This document is for your consideration; it includes samples of professional work carried out in offices as well as personal work.
MGA - Michael Green Architecture Activities Schematic design, site analysis, material research, model making & architectural detailing Location Vancouver, BC. Year: 2012 Tools: Models, AutoCad, Adobe Suite. Architects: Michael Green & Carla Smith I hold great pride in working at MGA as part of the team designated for the WIDC (Wood Innovation Design Centre) competition in Prince George. I worked in the schematic design, initial LEED and tall wood building research and structural development. Working alongside associates Carla Smith & Seng Tchoi we developed the slab system consisting of two layers of juxtaposed CLT beams of 3 and 5 layers; the difference between 3 and 5 layers for each element meant that we were able to run all installations (electrical, gas, water, etc) through the slab using the inherent properties of the system. Materials such as CLT, LVL, LSL were specified.
ZAR - Zozaya Arquitectos Activities Budget, project timeline, architectural design & detailing, construction site supervision Location Zihuatanejo, Mexico. Year: 2013 Tools: Microsof Office, OPUS, AutoCad, Adobe Suite. Architects: Enrique Zozaya + Maria Jose Contreras
Growing up in Mexico exposed me to the work of Enrique Zozaya in the state of Guerrero, on the Pacific Ocean. I joined his practice as a junior architect to work alongside senior architect Maria Jose on a project of three one-off houses on a private beach property. Working with Zozaya and his team was a great opportunity as I did the construction budget, coordinated construction-worker payments, aided in architectural design for the houses and focused on construction site supervision including concrete pour for the pools and learned about construction and detailing of“Palapas at Las Palmas Resort.

AT-103 Activities Digital material, editorial design, architectural design Location Mexico City, Mexico. Year: 2010 Tools: Models, AutoCad, Adobe Suite Architects: Julio Amezcua & Francisco Pardo My responsibilities with AT-103 consisted on compiling the high-quality digital material produced by the studio from its origin in 2001 until 2011, learning how to detail steel structures during the “Foros TV Azteca” project, re-drawing lost material from the “Lisboa 7” project, compiled research for the formation of the book “Architecture does (not) matter” and rebuilt material from the AGN competition won in 2010.

TDDA - TALLER DISEÑO DAVID DANA Activities Schematic design, site survey, material research, furniture design, competition, residential renovation Location Mexico City, Mexico Year: 2013 Tools: AutoCad, Adobe Suite, Rhinoceros Architects: David Dana I joined TDDA working solely with principal David Dana through the foundation of his studio creating graphic material for the Pabellon Bosques renovation competition proposal in collaboration with Cherem Arqs. I then worked on his family’s house renovation in the City of Cuernavaca where I was responsible for all initial dimensional survey as well as design proposals for feature furniture such as the fragmented lounger. I particularly enjoyed generating and running the online material for the studio through my collaboration with TDDA.

PACHYDERMATA STUDIO
Pachydermata Studio is a design partnership between Alfonso Bonilla (MArch) & Rob Curley (MArch) focused on bespoke design solutions achieving maximum effect with minimum intervention which began in 2011 as a way to manage and encourage personal projects and ideas. Belonging to contrasting contexts, we have tied our shared interests and experience to design together. Our work compiles competition entries and the development, production and marketing of bespoke furniture pieces. As young designers in the digital economy we believe it is essential to apply our architectural education to an array of products at a variety of scales, that rational, aesthetic architectural design can reach as wide an audience as possible. We believe architecture & design should be affortable, sustainable and meaningful.
CELLULAR MORPHOLOGY CUBE Commissioned by the Polyforum Siqueiros Design Store via architect Esteban Suárez from BNKR architects, Pachydermata Studio developed voronoi tessellations in the form of cellular morphologies. This cube was conceived as a one piece stand for display and storage for specific design objects while its spacious cells are able to fit 30cm “El Croquis” architecture magazines comfortably. The material (plywood) is exposed and in no way treated as we believe covering the material with a plastic laminate, paint or wood veneer would only hide the nature of the boards used.
RAINBOW RIBBON - ROBSON REDUX Our intervention for a temporary summer public space installation in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery was developed and completed in under two weeks in March, 2014. We coordinated the project with Rob working in Dublin and Alfonso working in Vancouver. A creature seemingly excavated from the site looping around itself. A reflective finish would mirror its environment making this “creature” admit its context. As the structure raises, its tapered fin provides shade in different directions at different times of the day. At 75cm it provides a humble seating area while reflecting the sky above.

MEDELLIN HOUSING-PACHYDERMATA STUDIO Mixed Use Social Housing & Commercial Towers ARCHmedium - MESH COMPETITION 2014 Made using Rhinoceros, Models, AutoCad, Adobe Suite The competition proposed a site within the downtown core of the city of Medellin in Colombia. It required the existing commercial, office, storage and parking of the site to be considered within a proposal for social housing. This project creates a series of private courtyards that ventilate and communicate 4 apartment towers. The lower levels contain the commercial strips and a single use office tower is proposed as a concealed. A low-tech / high-res proposal is achieved creating the framework on which the residents can setup their dwellings whether their requirements are a series of bedrooms, a shared apartment or even just a studio space. This proposal is based on the completion of public spaces, courtyards, building structures and services (kitchens & WC) for all residents while the interior of the dwellings is decided by the new residents as their necessities and resources change over time.

VR 120-14 Pachydermata studio
Product Design, Development & Placement 2012 - Ongoing Rhinoceros, CNC, Model, AutoCad, Adobe Suite Past Clients include: Polyforum Siqueiros Store Mexico DF, Space Lab store - Vancouver BC, as well as private clients in Mexico City, Vancouver, Canada & Dublin, Ireland.
pachydermata studio New world design. Old world perfection. The production, marketing and sale of the VR120-14 (Voronoi Winerack) began in 2012 from an initial prototype designed using Rhinoceros. The 2014 version was launched as part of Pachydermata Studio branding in Vancouver, Canada. Work undertaken included researching, coordinating, costing and sourcing of material and services in Vancouver, integrating improvements to the design for this iteration. This version was successfully manufactured, marketed and sold in the Vancouver market in the summer of 2014. The development and marketing of the product moved to Dublin as of August, 2014.
BArch Thesis Advanced Housing Housing for Advanced Age Citizens Cuernavaca, MĂŠxico 2011 Made using Models, AutoCad, Adobe Suite, Rhinoceros, Hand Sketching, Sketchup. Instructor(s): Andres Flores & Jose Vigil This project was developed over a period of one year achieving a high level of detail. The main challenge in this project was to design according to the various personalities of the people who would live there. According to precedent studies and surveys, the main personalities lean toward extraverted or introverted uses of the private space. With this in mind, the 75 dwellings have distinct ways of being inhabited with thick walls that create balconies or extensions of spaces as well as gardens and courtyards throughout the building. The corridors and access to each space allows for neighbors to interact if only for a moment.
