Meet The Coach... Ryan Redondo First Season Career Record: 13 - 11 Prior to coming to Pacific, Ryan spent the last three years as an assistant to Gene Carswell at San Diego State. His responsibilities included recruiting, developing practice and competition schedules and managing budget operations. Prior to his stint at San Diego State, he spent two years playing on the USTA, ITF and ATP professional tours. He also spent time during the past year coaching privately in the Rancho Sante Fe, Calif. Redondo was a three time letterwinner at San Diego State from 2002-04. He earned All-America honors as a sophomore and junior and is one of the top players in Aztec history. In 2003, he earned a spot in the NCAA Doubles Finals with partner Oliver Maiberger. He began his collegiate at Pepperdine, transferring to the Aztec program for his sophomore season. As an Aztec, Redondo collected many accolades. In 2002, his first season after transferring from Pepperdine, Redondo teamed with Maiberger to reach the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championship and helped the team win the National Collegiate Indoor Championship, the program’s lone national championship. In 2002-03, Redondo and Maiberger posted an outstanding 31-8 record, including 21 wins against ranked opponents. They finished the season ranked No. 2 in the country after winning four matches in four days to reach the NCAA Doubles Finals where they lost to Illinois’ Brian Wilson and Rajeev Ram. Redondo earned five All-Mountain West Conference selections, and still holds the program record for double victories with 59 while teaming with Maiberger. He graduated from San Diego State with a degree in religious studies. “I am very excited to take on the position as the new Men’s Head Tennis Coach and Director of Tennis,” said Redondo. “I am hungry to make the University of the Pacific a powerhouse in tennis and look forward to direct this talented team to reach its potential. I want to thank Mr. Lynn King and the rest of the great people at Pacific for welcoming me to the Pacific family.”

Renan Delsin
First Season Career Record: 13 - 11
Renan began his first season as assistant coach in the fall season after having played for the Tigers for two years. Delsin was a business major at the University of the Pacific. Coach Delsin worked with the men and prepared them for the fall season and will continue to do so in the Spring. Coach Delsin is from Santa Cruz da Conceicao, Brazil.

Ivan Castro Junior • 5’-10” • Sao Paulo, Brazil Career Stats: Singles: 32-18

Fall 2010 (Junior): Ivan ended his fall season with a singles record of 7-2 and a doubles record of 3-0 with partner Fernando Ristow. Castro Spring 2010 (Sophomore): Ivan ended his first season at Pacific with a record of 13-8. On March 1st he defeated Cal Poly’s Drew Jacobs in three sets 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-3, and was recognized as the Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week on March 3rd and was also selected for 1st Team All-Conference. Castro also dominated against Wichita State’s Vlad Marinescu with a score of 6-1, 6-1 on March 21st. On March 29th Ivan easily gained a win against the Air Force’s Austin Francis with a score of 6-4, 6-0. Ivan’s doubles season was spent in both number one as well as No. 2 doubles with partner Artem Gramma and they ended the spring season with a record of 12-7. Fall 2009 (Sophomore): Castro joined the Tigers in the spring 2010 season. High School: Ivan graduated from Colegio Athemeu in 2009. Personal: Ivan Garcia Castro was born in Mogi das Cruzes, Sao Paulo, Brazil. Ivan was chosen to be on the 1st Team All-Conference for both singles and doubles. His most memorable match was when he scored the first point at his first ATP match. He is the son of Valmir Machado Castro and Valeria Moreira Garcia Castro and intends to major in international business.His hobbies include surfing the internet and watching television shows, his favorite being F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Ivan’s career goals are to play professional tennis after graduating.

Fall 2010 (Freshman): Lance didn’t join the Pacific Tennis program until the spring season. Lance was born in Melbourne, Australia. Lance was recognized as the number one at Mentone Grammar where he only lost 1 singles match for the season. He was also on the AGS Representative Team. This past year, Lance won two AMT tournaments, and was in the top 200 in Australian rankings. He is the son of Alec and Irene Dugan and has one brother, Thomas. Lance is a business major and plans to use his degree to find a suitable career. Lance’s hobbies include hanging out with friends, working out, and listening to music.

Alex Golding Sophomore • 6’-1” • London, England Career Stats: Singles: 8-11

Fall (2010) Sophomore: Alex Golding did not compete with the Tigers in the fall, he joined the Pacific family in the Spring 2011 season. Alex was born in Houston, Texas and was raised in London, England. Alex was recognized as a most valuable player in high school, and received the Academic and Athletic Award. Alex was also in the Top 10 in the UK in the U18 division. Alex has also had a record of 5-2 for the Mountain West Conference; and was a Mountain Region Doubles Champion in 2009. That year, Alex also qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships. Alex is the son of Terry and Lisa Golding and has three siblings. Alex is a business major and is currently undecided as to his career plans. Alex’s hobbies include sleeping, playing other sports, and going out.

Artem Gramma RS Senior • 5’-9” • Krivoj Roj, Ukraine Career Stats: Singles: 71-47

Fall 2010 (Senior): Artem ended his fall season with a record of 6-4 in singles and a doubles record of 2-3 with partner Tomasz Krzyszkowski. Spring 2010 (Junior):Artem completed the season with the record 15-6 in the Spring and an overall record of 22-9. January 27th Artem easily defeated No. 46 Mirko Zapletal of Fresno State with scores of 6-1, 6-0. On March 1st Gramma defeated Cal Poly’s Matt Fawcett 6-4, 6-3. Artem was also a two-time Big West Athlete of the week the weeks of February 4th and April 21st and was recognized as the Big West Player of the Year and also 1st Team All-Conference . Gramma and partner Ivan Castro competed at both No. 1 and 2 doubles and ended the doubles season with a record of 12-7. Fall 2008 (Sophomore):Gramma finished with a team best 7-3 singles record in the fall of 2009. His outstanding play earned him the ranking of No. 108 in the nation heading into spring competition. His best performance came at the ITA Northwest Regional Tournament. Seeded 17th, Gramma battled through opponents from three ranked teams (No. 44 Fresno State, No. 40 California, and No. 10 Stanford) to advance to the quarterfinals where he fell to No. 76 Richard Wire of No. 10 Stanford, 6-1, 6-3, on Oct. 25. At the UNLV Rebel Classic, Gramma defeated host No. 73 UNLV’s Luca Barlocchi on Oct. 30 to advance to the semifinal match. His run for a tournament championship was then stopped by Big West rival Cal Poly’s Andre Dome in a stunning three set loss, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (6). Only competing at the ITA Northwest Regional Tournament, the duo, Veskimagi and Gramma, defeated Santa Clara’s Mauricio Villa and Nick Buckley (8-3) in the round of 64 before falling to No. 10 Stanford’s Bradley Khan and Ryan Thatcher ( 8-3). No. 15 Khan and No. 96 Thatcher’s team is ranked No. 8 national. Spring 2009 (Sophomore): Gramma had the second best singles win percentage on the team playing out of the No. 2 position, finishing with an 11-7 overall record. A 5-1 record against Big West opponents helped seal Gramma’s place on First Team All-Conference, the second All-Conference honor in his career. Gramma defeated two opponents from ranked teams, the highest on March 15 over Wes Hancock of No. 51 Utah 6-2, 6-1. On April 14, Gramma took No. 54 Rudolf Siwy of No. 44 Fresno State to a super match tie break in set three before falling 5-7, 6-2, (10-5). Gramma partnered with Karl-Erik Paaro, Vegerd Veskimagi and Ryan Kim in the spring 2009 season. With Kim, the pair posted a 6-8 record, third best on team, going 2-4 against ranked teams. Playing out of the No. 2 position, Gramma and Kim upset No. 51 Utah’s John Taylor and Timmy Allen, 8-4, on March 15. Two days later they upset Calvin Bennett and Joel Samaha of No. 69 Yale University (6-2 ret.) to cap off a three-match win streak. Fall 2008 (Sophomore): In the short two-tournament fall season, Gramma compiled the most individual wins for Pacific, going 3-2 that season. His best performance in tournament play came on Oct. 5 when he had the highest finish of the Fresno State Bulldog Classic for his team. He defeated Jose Munoz of UC Davis, 6-0 and 6-2 in the quarterfinals to move into the semi-final round. He finally met his fate there, taking one set, but falling 7-5, 1-6 and 6-4 to Fresno State’s Flavio Mollinedo in the semis. Spring 2008 (Freshman): After finishing his spring season with an 11-11 mark, Artem turned in the best results from the No. 4 spot with a 4-1 record, though he also saw time in the first, second and third positions. Because of his performance throughout the season he was awarded Big West honorable mention honors. In doubles action, Gramma spent time with five different partners from all three positions: Renan Delsin (4-6), David Gonzalez (1-1), Moritz Starke (2-3), Pedro Toledo (0-1) and Vegerd Veskimagi (2-3). Fall 2007 (Freshman): Gramma finished the fall with a singles record of 6-5, advancing to the finals of the Fresno State Bulldog Classic and to the semifinals of the Chandler Cup hosted by Cal. In his first tournament season, Artem also finished doubles play with a record of 3-6. Artem graduated in 2006 from Gymnasium No. 4 in Krivoj Roj, Ukraine. While in high school, Artem was ranked No. 3 in the ETA U16 rankings and No. 160 in the ITF Junior standings. Artem Gramma was born in Krivoj Roj, Ukraine. He is the son of Inna and Alexander Gramma. Artem is a business administration major in his third year at Pacific. In his free time, Artem enjoys playing soccer.

Tomasz Krzyszkowski Junior • 6’-3” • Sopot, Poland Career Stats: Singles: 19-13

Fall 2010 (Junior): Tomasz joined the Tigers in the fall and competed in the fall tournament season to earn a record of 8-3 in singles and 2-3 in doubles with partner Artem Gramma. Tomasz was born in Sopot, Poland. He has been recognized as being ranked 8th in Poland in the open-seniors division, and received the silver medal in the 2009 Championship of Poland, before the age of 21. His most memorable match was played in 2007 when he won his first ATP point. He is the son of Renata and Tadensz Krzyszkowski and has three step siblings, twin brothers and one sister. Tomasz is a physical education major and has a career goal of someday owning his own tennis club. His hobbies include playing sports, traveling and watching movies.

Fernando Ristow Senior • 5’-9” • Curitiba, Brazil Career Stats: Singles: 36-20
Doubles: 29-21
Fall 2010 (Senior): Fernando completed the fall season with a final record of 7-3 in singles and held an undefeated record of 3-0 in doubles with partner Ivan Castro. Spring 2010 (Junior): Fernando ended the season with a record of 10-9 in the Spring and compiled an overall record of 14-12. Ristow was also chosen for 2nd Team All-Conference. On March 1st Fernando defeated Cal Poly’s Jordan Bridge in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. Ristow was also victorious against No. 51 Shimpei Suzuki of UC Irvine on April 17th with the score 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (4). Ristow competed early in the doubles season with Vegerd Veskimagi and compiled a record of 2-3 and was later paired with Renan Delsin compiling a record of 11-6. Fernando ended the season with an overall record of 14-10 and was also chosen to be on the 2nd Team All- Conference team with partner Delsin. Fall 2009 (Junior): Ristow joined the Tigers in the fall of 2009 and finished with a 4-3 singles record, second best on the team. Despite starting the season 1-3, Ristow rebounded at the UNLV Rebel Classic to sweep through the consolation rounds. After defeating Northern Arizona’s David Flodberg 7-5, 6-3 in the semifinal’s, Ristow faced Stanislav Glukhov of Idaho in the consolation finals. He dropped the first set 6-2 but rallied to win set two 6-2 and force a final tie-break set. Outlasting Glukhov, Ristow earned the win 10-6 to close his fall competitions. Partnered with Artem Gramma and Vegerd Veskimagi, Ristow saw the most success in the latter pairing. The duo finished with a team best 2-1 record with all of their opponents coming from ranked teams. Their biggest upset came over No. 43 Dmitry Lebedev and Matt Walters of No. 55. Arkansas (8-4) at the UNLV Rebel Classic on Oct. 30 in the round of 64. They also defeated No. 24 Arizona’s Geoff Embry and Pat Metham in the quarterfinals of the Rebel Classic 8-4 on Oct. 31, but would fall to host No. 73 UNLV’s Luca Barlocchi and Mehdi Bouras in the semifinals 8-4 later that day. Previous School: While attending Bethel College, Ristow posted a 33-3 record in two seasons of play and was named team most valuable player both seasons. In 2008-09, he was ranked as high as No. 4 before ending the season at No. 13 of all NAIA athletes. Ristow went undefeated in TranSouth Athletic Conference contests. High School: Ristow graduated in 2005 from OPET - Bom Retiro in Curitiba, Parana’, Brazil where he was ranked No. 1 in the state two years in-a-row (2005-2006). In 2006, he was ranked as high as No. 4 in the nation in juniors. Personal: Fernando Ristow was born in Curitiba, Parana’, Brazil. He is the son of Mr. Irineu and Mrs. Ivete and has one brother, Renan Augusto Ristow. Fernando intends to major in business and economics. His hobbies include playing tennis and soccer and watching movies.

Fall 2010 (Freshman): Angus didn’t join the Tigers until the Spring season. Angus was born in Gosford, New South Wales, and was raised in Brisbane, Queensland. Angus was recognized as champion at his high school and was the No. 1 player on his team for singles and doubles. He also had an undefeated season in 2009. Angus is the son of Andrew and Patricia Thomson and has two older siblings, brother Charlie and sister Georgina. Angus is a business administration major and is currently undecided about his career goals. His hobby is listening to music.

2010 Fall Season Recap Spring 2010:
The spring 2010 season got off to a promising start with the Tigers holding a ranking of No. 69 in the month of January. In February, No. 108 Artem Gramma was recognized as the Big West Athlete of the Week. That next week, the Tigers defeated San Diego in a close match 4-3. The Tigers’ winning streak continued in the month of March when they defeated Cal Poly, No. 70 Marquette and Wichita State all with a final score of 4-3. Also in March, senior Renan Delsin was selected as a three-time Big West Athlete of the Week. April continued to highlight the Tigers’ strengths as they started off the month defeating the Pilots 6-1. On the 17th they swept Saint Mary’s college 7-0, and did so again on the 18th , senior day, against the Highlanders. The next week, Artem Gramma was selected as a two-time Big West Athlete of the Week. The next week the Tigers competed in the Championships and made it to the semifinals, but came up short against UC Irvine. In the month of May, the following Tigers were selected for the All-Conference Team Awards; Artem Gramma, Ivan Castro, Fernando Ristow, Renan Delsin, Vegerd Veskimagi, and Karl-Erik Paaro. To conclude the season, the following Tigers made the Spring Academic AllBig West List; Renan Delsin, Artem Gramma, Karl-Erik Paaro, and Vegerd Veskimagi. Also in the month of June, Matt Lucas resigned as the Director of Tennis and the Head Men’s Tennis Coach. Fall 2010: In August, the Pacific Athletic Department announces that Ryan Redondo has been selected to be the new Director of Tennis as well as the Men’s Tennis Head Coach. Coach Redondo assumed his role right away and got to work with the Tigers, enthusiastic and hungry for a successful season. In the fall junior Tomasz Krzyszkowski joined the team to bring the Tiger count to four after having lost Delsin, Oliphant, Paaro, Van Wagner and Veskimagi. in September The Tigers competed in several tournaments. At the Battle of the Bay Classic in San Francisco, California, the Tigers competed under the direction of their new coach and quickly adapted. At the San Diego State Invitational, two Tigers made it to the final singles round, Artem Gramma and Ivan Castro. The two battled it out on the court to see which Tiger would claim the win, and after splitting sets and an extremely close tiebreak, junior Ivan Castro clinched the win. Finally, to conclude the month of September, the Tigers competed at the ITA Northwest Regional. The Tigers competed with finesse and a game-winning strategy to carry them to the third day of the tournament. In December, Coach Redondo was selected to guide the Northern California team at the USTA Winter Nationals. Also, late in the fall season, Coach Redondo signed three Tigers for the spring 2011 season; Lance Dugan, Alex Golding, and Angus Thomson.

Pamela A. Eibeck University President
Pamela A. Eibeck became the 24th President of University of the Pacific on July 1, 2009. She is Pacific’s sixth President since the University moved to Stockton in 1924 and the first woman to hold the office. Her Presidency follows a distinguished career as a researcher, teacher, educational reformer, and university administrator. Prior to joining Pacific, Eibeck was dean of the Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering at Texas Tech—one of the nation’s largest engineering colleges with 4,400 students, 156 faculty and five research centers. There, she was responsible for eight academic departments, 33 degree programs and a $55 million budget. An active fundraiser, Eibeck helped build an endowment of $57 million and doubled the number of endowed chairs. Eibeck takes the helm at a University with strong enrollments and finances, and the best incoming student academic profile in its history. With a record number of applications for Fall 2009, university enrollment is expected to remain steady at around 6,250 with a 20-point jump in the average admitted freshmen SAT score to 1200. Construction continues on two major buildings: the $7.5 million Janssen-Lagorio Multipurpose Gymnasium and the $10 million John T. Chambers Technology Center, and the last fiscal year closed with a surplus for the 13th consecutive year. While spending time to get know Pacific in her first year, Eibeck has committed to building on these strengths by continuing to enhance educational quality, build national visibility, and deepen the University’s involvement in community engagement. Eibeck received her bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees in mechanical engineering between 1979 and 1986 from Stanford University. She joined the faculty at the University of California at Berkeley, where she earned tenure and served from 1985 to 1995. In 1995, she became a professor and chair of mechanical engineering at Northern Arizona University, where she later served as director of the honors program and then vice provost for undergraduate studies. In 2004, Eibeck was named dean of the college of engineering at Texas Tech.
Founded in 1851 as the first chartered university in California, University of the Pacific continues to enjoy a reputation as one of the finest academic institutions in the West. The main Stockton campus, with its expansive lawns and brick-and-ivy architecture, much like many renowned universities in the East, is highly regarded as one of the most picturesque college campuses in the West. The only private school in the Big West Conference, Pacific offers a diversity of programs that would normally be associated with a much larger university. Personal attention and small class sizes have become Pacific trademarks and help attract students from many U.S. states and foreign countries. Pacific provides its 6,235 scholars a student-to-faculty ratio of less than 13-to-1. Pacific is comprised of 11 schools and colleges on three campuses, offering students the distinctive advantage of nearby resources. It is adjacent to over 1,000 miles of waterways, making it the largest inland seaport in the state. An expert in heat transfer, Eibeck conducted experimental research related to electronics cooling and thermal tiles used by NASA on the space shuttles. Her later work focused on engineering educational reform, including early use of multimedia in the classroom, curriculum development and, most recently, ways to attract young people and women to the profession. She has authored or co-authored nearly 50 articles and papers. Eibeck became a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in 2008. She received the Distinguished Engineering Educator Award from the Society of Women Engineers in 1996 and the Boeing Outstanding Educator Award in 1999. Eibeck is married to William D. Jeffery, a law professor and a native of California. They have four children. Sons Andrew and Kevin live in the Bay Area. Daughter Katherine attends the University of Southern California. Their youngest son, Will, attends Santa Clara University.

Any or all of the above are available to students who are interested, but participation in such activities is completely voluntary. Is Pacific accredited? Lynn King
Lynn King is in his 11th year as director of athletics for University of the Pacific. He began his tenure in March 2000. During his time at Pacific, King has seen the Tigers claim 18 Big West Conference team titles. Pacific has also made 28 NCAA Championship appearances under King’s guidance. In King’s first year at Pacific, the Tigers ranked first among NCAA Division I-AAA schools in the national Sears Directors Cup standings in 2000-01, surpassing all 78 other non-football Division I universities. The Tigers have also excelled in the classroom since King’s arrival, boasting six CoSida Academic All-Americans and 37 CoSida Academic All-District Team athletes since 2000-01. In 2002-03 alone, four Pacific teams were recognized with national team academic awards “Lynn King has provided our athletic department with tremendous leadership and direction. Pacific Athletics have reached new levels of success both athletically and academically,” said former President Donald V. DeRosa. King is currently leading Pacific on a campaign to build two new facilities (a multipurpose gymnasium [the Janssen-Lagorio Gymnasium] for athletics and recreation and a tennis clubhouse), expand the Alex G. Spanos Center to include an athletics Hall of Fame and substantially increase the athletics endowment. This campaign is already well underway as construction of Klein Family Field and renovations to Chris Kjeldsen Pool have been completed. In addition, construction of the Janssen-Lagorio Gymnasium is scheduled for completion at the beginning of the 2009-10 academic year. Before coming to Pacific, King chaired the NCAA Division I men’s and women’s track and field subcommittee from 1995 to 1999 and served as Drake’s director of intercollegiate athletics since 1990. Under the leadership of King, Drake’s Bulldog Scholarship Fund grew in both record numbers and money pledged in support of Drake athletics. Among his accomplishments at Drake, King played a major role in raising $12.5 million for design and construction of the 7,000-seat Knapp Multi Purpose Center. King also spearheaded successful efforts that enabled Drake’s athletics program to be officially certified by the NCAA Committee on Athletics Certification in the spring of 1998. The certification followed the committee’s review of Drake’s athletics program self-study and review of a report by a peerreview team that visited the campus in November of 1997. King previously served as director of intercollegiate athletics for University of Wisconsin in Oshkosh and assistant athletic director for facilities at the University of Northern Iowa, of which he is an alumnus. King began his career as head coach for men’s track and cross country, first at Rochester Community College and then at University of Northern Iowa, where he was also an instructor of health and physical education. While at Northern Iowa he coached 11 conference team champions, 25 All-Americans and two national champions. He was named regional or conference coach of the year 10 times and referee of the Drake Relays in 1984. King earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physical education. In October of 2008, he was inducted into the Northern Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame. He was a member of the executive committee and a director of the Greater Des Moines Sports Authority, a director of the Iowa Games board, and the 1995 National Junior Olympics Organizing Committee. He and his wife, Jan, are parents of two adult children, Jason, and Kelly.

Holly Trexler
In her sixth year at Pacific, Holly Trexler is the Associate Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Services and Compliance. She became Pacific’s Senior Women’s Administrator in September of 2008. Among her duties, Trexler oversees compliance, academic support, student services, the Pacific Student Athlete Council (PSAC) as well as the CHAMPS/Life Skills program. In addition, Trexler is currently serving on the NCAA Leadership Selection Committee. Before coming to Pacific, Trexler was the assistant athletic director for academic support/life skills coordinator at Quinnipiac University from 2002-05. At Quinnipiac, she monitored the academic progress and eligibility status of all student-athletes, in addition to overseeing academic programming and support services. Trexler was also responsible for the CHAMPS/Life Skills program. Prior to her time at Quinnipiac, Trexler spent the previous three years as assistant athletic director for eligibility and student services/senior woman administrator at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, N.C. Her duties at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference school included the monitoring of academic records and eligibility status of 300 student-athletes. She also oversaw the academic programming and support services. From 1993 to 1999, Trexler worked at the University of Kansas as a strategic learning assistant and Mentor. In her position, she developed learning strategies for at-risk student-athletes and assisted with subject matter and overall academic development. Trexler holds three degrees from the University of Kansas. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in English and African-American studies in 1995. She was awarded her Juris Doctorate from the Kansas School of Law in 1998. A year later, in 1999, she finished her master’s in education.

Athletic Performance Tony Sandoval Director of Athletic Performance Tony Sandoval joined Pacific in April of 2007 as the assistant director before being promoted to the Director of Athletic Performance in October of 2007. He most recently served as an assistant director of strength and conditioning at Sacramento State from January 2005 through the spring of 2007. Sandoval also earned his master’s degree in sports performance in 2006 at Sacramento State. While working at Sacramento State, Sandoval also worked with UCLA on a mentorship program that allowed him to travel to Los Angeles, Calif., approximately once a month to work with Bruin athletics. Sandoval earned his bachelor’s degree from Cal State San Bernardino in December of 2004 in exercise science. During his undergraduate studies, Sandoval also served as the boxing coach and the boxing strength and conditioning coach for the city of Chino, Calif.
Strength and conditioning is an integral part of any student-athlete’s life. At Pacific, new facilities combined with a dedicated staff work toward success on the playing field for Tiger student-athletes. “Strength and conditioning are critical to maximal athletic performance,” Pacific Athletic Director Lynn King said. “The University of the Pacific is proud of its Athletic Performance Center and staffing to assist our student-athletes in this vital part of their training and development.” The multi-purpose weight training and fitness facility within the Pacific Intercollegiate Athletics Center is 4,000 square feet and includes 10 Olympic platforms, 10 racks, five bench presses, five adjustable inclines, two full racks of dumbbells, over 50 medicine balls, 35 Swiss balls, six adjustable plyometric boxes and was completed in July of 1998. The newest addition to the athletic performance facilities is a 2,000 square foot conditioning room with plyometric flooring and 20 Schwinn Spin Bikes. “The Athletic Performance staff works hand-in-hand with sport coaches to assure the student-athlete develops physical strength, endurance and agility,” King said. “This training serves as a basis for the work ethic required to reach one’s full potential.”
Marcus DorIn Asst. Director of Athletic Performance Marcus Dorin joined the Athletic Performance staff in January 2008 as the Assistant Director of Athletic Performance and is responsible for the year-round training for nine of Pacific’s athletic teams. Before coming to Pacific, Dorin spent the previous two years as the strength and conditioning coach of Butte College’s (Chico, Calif.) football, baseball, men’s basketball and softball teams. Prior to working at Butte College Dorin served as a spring training strength and conditioning intern for the Texas Rangers. Coach Dorin served as the strength and conditioning coach for seven of Chico State University’s athletic teams while he completed his master’s degree in kinesiology. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Chico State University.

Athletic Training Medical care of Pacific student-athletes begins with its athletic training staff and a fully operational Athletic Training Center. The center features the latest in injury prevention, rehabilitation, clinical diagnosis and educational research. The athletic training room is operated and staffed by the odirector of athletic training Chris Pond and assistant directors of athletic training Andy Gepford and Annette Martinez. Pond, Gepford and Martinez are certified athletic trainers by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and oversee treatment and medical attention given to all of Pacific’s intercollegiate sports. In his 20th year at Pacific, Pond is a 1988 graduate of Utah State, and spent two years at Arizona before arriving in Stockton. The athletic training room is also the training laboratory of Pacific’s athletic training undergraduate studies program. Pacific offers athletic training as a field of study within the University’s Department of Sport Sciences. Approximately 15 students participate annually in Pacific’s student-athlete training program. The academic needs of athletic training students are supervised by Jodi Baker (ATC), director of Pacific’s Athletic Training Education Program.

Brookside Field (Field Hockey) The Pacific athletics department boasts seven facilities for its 16 Division I intercollegiate teams. All Tiger basketball and volleyball games are held in the Alex G. Spanos Center (top left), with lockerrooms located in the central athletics department. In 2006, Pacific saw the opening of its first oncampus baseball field, Klein Family Field (bottom right). Klein Family Field is one of two on-campus facilities with stadium lights that allow for night games throughout the season. The Pacific baseball team’s home seats 2,500 and capacity grew even larger in the fall of 2008, with the addition of two new luxury boxes on the upper concourse.

Janssen-Lagorio Gymnasium (Athletics & Recreation) Chris Kjeldsen Pool Complex (Swimming & Water Polo) formerly the home of Pacific football. Stagg was built in 1950 and has undergone several renovative efforts since. The Tiger swimming and water polo teams hold their contests at Chris Kjeldsen Pool, located adjacent to the athletics department. The complex also holds lockerrooms and coaches’ offices. In 2008 the pool was resurfaced with new siding to make it one of the faster pools in the Big West Conference. Pacific athletics is dedicated to providing students with top-notch facilities, and the JanssenLagorio Gymnasium is the newest addition to the Tigers’ facilities. The multi-purpose practice facility was officially opened in December 2009.
