• 2011 Preview • The Tigers enter 2011 with one clear mission: Win the Big West Conference. “The team has come in extremely focused. They were ready to begin training and they want to take that first step towards winning the Big West,” head coach Keith Coleman said. “We have a lot of big shoes to fill, but we also have a lot of talent coming back and some newcomers who can step up and compete for playing time right away.” Entering his 18th season as the Tigers’ head coach, Coleman heads into the 2011 season with 15 letterwinners returning from the 2010 squad. Last season, the Tigers showed they could compete on a level with the nation’s best. Pacific turned in a 8-8-3 record on the season with six matches against Top 25 opponents including a 1-1 tie with No. 16 California. The Pacific defense locked down opponents, holding teams outside the Top 25 to just six goals all season and posting eight shutouts. The Tigers, however, struggled to score goals at times, finishing with a total of 16 goals on the season in 2010. The drought wasn’t for lack of talent, but in the eyes of many, mere bad luck as the Tigers hit the post or crossbar 13 times in the 2010 season and out-shot their opponents by over 40 shots. Pacific returns most of its firepower for 2011, as nine of the Tigers 11 players who earned points last season are back, including four of the top five. Forward and leading scorer Kristina Wavomba (bottom left), who tallied three goals with four assists last year, was a Second Team All-Big West selection last season. Wavomba, who ranks ninth in Tigers history with 15 career goals and ninth in scoring with 39 points returns to climb the Tiger career leaderboards in her senior season. Also returning up front, is senior midfielder/forward Angelica Figueroa, who tied Wavomba with four assists last season while adding two goals for eight points. Figueroa, a 2009 First Team All-Big West honoree and NSCAA First Team All-West Region selection, sits just outside the Tigers’ top 10 in career goals, in 11th with 11, but ranks third all-time in assists (16) and 10th on the Tigers’ points list. Fellow senior forward/midfielder Laura Hogan, who notched a goal and an assist last season in 11 starts, along with sophomore Renae McFadden, who tallied a goal on seven shots in 13 matches last year, provide the Tigers with ample firepower up front, despite the spring season loss of junior forward Maricela Padilla to a season-ending injury. Joining Pacific up front will be freshman Megan Mata, a three-time allleague selection for St. Mary’s High School in Stockton. In the midfield, the Tigers return Second Team All-Big West selection Alex Topp (top right) in the middle. The Tigers’ 5-11 central mid leads Pacific in the air and helps the Tigers control the midfield defensively, while she serves as a frequent target on set pieces. On the outside, junior Laura Hernandez returns and slides into a starting role after coming off the bench for all but one match in 2010. Senior Nydia Ramos, who appeared in 16 matches with three starts will also step into the starting lineup, while junior Kayla Villalpando and sophomore Haylee Bettencourt, who each played in seven games last season, are midfield returnees off the bench. Redshirt freshman Sasha Moscatello will also be an option after sitting virtually all of last season after suffering a knee injury just nine minutes into her Pacific career. The Tigers bring a trio of newcomers into the midfield in 2011, with freshmen Nicole Penick, Nicola Berry and Pernille Schulze-Larsen. Penick, from Saugus High School in Saugus, Calif., adds speed to the Tiger attack on the wing, while Berry is a strong, physical defensive presence in the
midfield out of El Camino Real in Los Angeles. Schulze-Larsen joins the Tigers from Soeberg, Denmark, where the connecting midfielder played club soccer for Ballerup-Skovlunde Fodbold in the Elite Division. The Pacific backline will be anchored by sophomore Brittni Beeman, the 2010 Big West Freshman of the Year. Drawing the assignment against the opponent’s top offensive threat last season, the Tigers held forwards to just two goals all season long, both off of set pieces, despite playing their challenging slate against ranked opponents. Beeman will be joined in the defensive third by junior Lauren Olvera, who started 11 matches for the Tigers last season and junior Kortney Agdeppa, who made a pair of starts and appeared in 17 matches in 2010. Following the losses of defenders Chyanne Alejado and Kyle Ah Choy to graduation, the Tigers will rely on youth in the backline, as freshmen Liz Higashino, Malaya Cabrera, Kapualani Entendencia and Maha Abdallah provide defensive reinforcements. Higashino, who was teammates at Kamehameha High School in Hawaii with Entendencia, is expected to jump into the Pacific line up. Cabrera joins the Tigers from Canyon Country, Calif., while Abdallah comes to Pacific via Alverno High in Monterrey Park, Calif. Between the pipes for Pacific, sophomore Tashia Long (bottom right) takes over for graduated senior goalkeeper Jill Medigovich. Long appeared in six matches last season, splitting time in net with Medigovich and logging over 328 minutes. She made 33 saves and held opponents to a 1.10 goals against average while sharing two shutouts. She also earned the tie in goal over No. 16 California, logging the final 65 minutes and making a career-high eight saves. She’ll be joined by freshman keeper Jacqueline Kane, a 5-9 native of Alamo, Calif. Kane did not play high school soccer, but instead played club soccer with the Lamorinda United ‘92. “I feel like we have a really good group, a strong group,” Coleman said. “Obviously, there are some shoes to fill with seven graduating seniors, but our newcomers are a talented group and I feel like we have a number of players ready to step up when given the opportunity. Last season, we had the chance to give a lot of players experience, and quality experience against a demanding schedule. I believe we have the talent level on this team necessary to be competitive. And I think mentally, the returnees all come in knowing what it takes to win the Big West. And I think our non-conference schedule will prepare us for the Big West season. It’s a tough, challenging nonconference schedule again this year with four NCAA tournament teams, including the national runner up. But I think we’ve once again given ourselves a schedule that will prepare us for Big West play.”

Keith Coleman HEAD COACH 18th Season • Cal Poly, 1991
Keith Coleman begins his 18th season at the helm of the Pacific women’s soccer program in 2011-12. With a career record of 156-132-35, Coleman’s Tigers have finished their regular season with a .500 or better record in 15 of his 17 years. In 2010, the Tigers finished at .500 at 8-8-3 against a daunting schedule featuring seven matches against ranked opponents, including a 1-1 tie against No. 16 Cal. The Tigers advanced to the Big West semifinals, falling 2-1 to No. 11 UC Irvine. The Tigers posted a 10-6-3 record in 2009, after closing out 2008 with a 10-8-1 overall record. In 2008, Pacific started a crew that was mostly composed of freshmen and found its way to the Big West Championships, falling to the eventual champion, Long Beach State, in the first round. A favorite to compete for the Big West title at the beginning of 2007, the Tigers struggled to find their way that year, starting strong before injuries and the tough play of the Big West caught up with the team. In conference action, the Tigers posted a 2-4-2 record despite finishing the year with one of the conference’s top defenses, allowing just 0.89 goals against throughout the year. With a veteran team in 2006, anchored by four four-year seniors and nine juniors, the Tigers finished the 2006 season with a 10-6-2 overall record. Pacific set single-season records for consecutive shutouts with six as the defense relinquished just 14 goals against, shattering the previous best of 19 goals against set in 1999. In 2005 the Tigers went 10-9-1 during the regular season. Additionally, Coleman led his Tigers to the postseason for the first time since 1998, earning a spot in the Big West Championships. The Tigers played tough, but a late goal sent Pacific to a 1-0 defeat to the eventual Big West Champions, Cal State Fullerton.
1998 Pacific women’s soccer team was inducted into the Pacific Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010. In 1997, Coleman was named Co-Big West Coach of the Year, following an outstanding season in which he led Pacific to an overall record of 14-6, including a win over nationally-ranked BYU (No. 19). He also led the Tigers to a 4-2 record in Big West Conference games during the season, finishing tied for second place in the Big West standings. Coleman posted a 7-1 season at home in 1995, which helped Pacific to post its first winning season in school history. The Tigers finished 9-8-2 overall that season. Before joining Pacific in 1994, Coleman was an assistant coach under Bob Russ at Chico State. He helped coach the Wildcats to victories in 30 of 37 games in his two seasons with Chico. He helped guide Chico State to its first regional championship and an appearance in the NCAA Division II playoffs, as the team advanced to the final six in 1992.During his stint as a coach for the Wildcats, Chico State ranked as high as fifth in the nation and No. 1 in the region. Prior to his tenure at Chico State, Coleman spent four years as head coach of the women’s club soccer program at Cal Poly, where his teams captured four state titles including the 1991 Women’s College Cup National Championship. Coleman compiled an overall record of 102-6-7 while at Cal Poly from 1988 to 1991. Coleman has been an Olympic Development Program evaluator since 1990, most recently for the U-17 Northern California State Team. He also has extensive experience coaching youth soccer players. Coleman resides in Stockton, Calif., with his wife, Michelle, Pacific’s assistant coach, and their two daughters, Sydney and Elliana.
The 2004 season witnessed Coleman reaching the century milestone in career wins as he guided the Tigers to his 100th victory with a 2-1 win at UC Irvine on Oct. 10. Additionally, Coleman led the Tigers to some big program victories as Pacific picked up road wins over Nebraska (2-1, Sept. 10) and UC Santa Barbara (1-0, Oct. 22). In 2002, Pacific completed its season with an overall record of 10-8-2 and 2-5-2 in Big West Conference action. Under his guidance, the Tigers produced five AllBig West players, including Big West Goalkeeper of the Year, Megan Pickering. In 1998, Coleman guided Pacific to its first Big West Conference Championship and first appearance in the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament. He earned Big West Coach of the Year honors for the second consecutive season, after becoming the first coach in Big West soccer history to post an undefeated conference record (7-0-2). With a 2-1 win over California during the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Coleman set a school record with 15 wins during the season. The

• 2010 Review • gainst one of the toughest non-conference schedules A in the nation, the Pacific women’s soccer team fought through the 2010 season, finishing at 8-8-3 overall and a 5-3-0 in Big West, advancing to the semifinals of the Big West tournament. Pacific opened the season with a 1-0 win at Hawai’i, but were victimized by bad luck against Wagner, falling 1-0 despite out-shooting the Seahawks 18-2. The Tigers rebounded with a 1-0 win over Sacramento State in their home opener, but then the schedule turned brutal as the Tigers stared down five-straight road matches against four teams in the Top 25. Pacific dropped a 2-0 decision to No. 22 Oregon State before earing a draw with Oregon. Pacific looked poised to knock off No. 9 Santa Clara, but a 76th minute goal gave the Broncos a 2-1 win. Following a loss at No. 2 ranked Stanford, the eventual National Runner Up, the Tigers visited Berkeley for a meeting with No. 16 California. Pacific’s Lauren Olvera tallied the Tigers’ lone goal of the contest as Pacific emerged with a 1-1 draw against the Bears. Following a home win over Montana, and a scoreless tie in a rematch with Hawai’i, the Tigers found themselves on the road to open Big West play, as they were shutout 1-0 in contests at UC Irvine and CS Northridge. Despite a 3-6-3 record, the Tigers had played well, but found goals in short supply. After playing nine of the first 12 on the road, within the friendly confines of Stagg Memorial Stadium, the Tigers broke out against Cal State Fullerton with a 3-0 win to kick off a four-match win streak. Pacific won at Cal Poly, and got an overtime game-winner from Angelica Figueroa for a come from behind win at UC Santa Barbara. A shutout of UC Davis capped the win steak, as Long Beach State notched a 2-0 win to snap the run, with the Tigers earning a berth in the Big West tournament despite the loss. Head coach Keith Coleman’s Tigers closed the regular season with a 2-0 victory over UC Riverside to finish tied for third in the Big West at 5-3-0. At top-seeded UC Irvine in the BWC semifinals, the Tigers fell behind 1-0, but a long service from defender Brittni Beeman found the back of the net to knot the game at 1-1. However, the Anteaters posted the game-winner on a corner kick to advance to the finals and end Pacific’s campaign at 8-8-3 overall. Pamela A. Eibeck University President
Pamela A. Eibeck became the 24th President of University of the Pacific on July 1, 2009. She is Pacific’s sixth President since the University moved to Stockton in 1924 and the first woman to hold the office. Her Presidency follows a distinguished career as a researcher, teacher, educational reformer, and university administrator. Prior to joining Pacific, Eibeck was dean of the Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering at Texas Tech—one of the nation’s largest engineering colleges with 4,400 students, 156 faculty and five research centers. There, she was responsible for eight academic departments, 33 degree programs and a $55 million budget. An active fundraiser, Eibeck helped build an endowment of $57 million and doubled the number of endowed chairs. Eibeck takes the helm at a University with strong enrollments and finances, and the best incoming student academic profile in its history. With a record number of applications for Fall 2009, university enrollment is expected to remain steady at around 6,250 with a 20-point jump in the average admitted freshmen SAT score to 1200. Construction continues on two major buildings: the $7.5 million Janssen-Lagorio Multipurpose Gymnasium and the $10 million John T. Chambers Technology Center, and the last fiscal year closed with a surplus for the 13th consecutive year. While spending time to get know Pacific in her first year, Eibeck has committed to building on these strengths by continuing to enhance educational quality, build national visibility, and deepen the University’s involvement in community engagement. Eibeck received her bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees in mechanical engineering between 1979 and 1986 from Stanford University. She joined the faculty at the University of California at Berkeley, where she earned tenure and served from 1985 to 1995. In 1995, she became a professor and chair of mechanical engineering at Northern Arizona University, where she later served as director of the honors program and then vice provost for undergraduate studies. In 2004, Eibeck was named dean of the college of engineering at Texas Tech.
Founded in 1851 as the first chartered university in California, University of the Pacific continues to enjoy a reputation as one of the finest academic institutions in the West. The main Stockton campus, with its expansive lawns and brick-and-ivy architecture, much like many renowned universities in the East, is highly regarded as one of the most picturesque college campuses in the West. The only private school in the Big West Conference, Pacific offers a diversity of programs that would normally be associated with a much larger university. Personal attention and small class sizes have become Pacific trademarks and help attract students from many U.S. states and foreign countries. Pacific provides its 6,235 scholars a student-to-faculty ratio of less than 13-to-1. Pacific is comprised of 11 schools and colleges on three campuses, offering students the distinctive advantage of nearby resources. Two professional schools complement the Stockton campus: the School of Dentistry in San Francisco and the McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento. The Stockton campus features the central liberal arts division, College of the Pacific and schools of music, engineering, education, pharmacy, business & public administration, international studies, the Graduate School and University College. Pacific students are represented on many policy-making committees, and the Associated Students (ASUOP) play an active role in campus life through social and cultural programs. The Stockton metropolitan area, with a population of over 280,000, is nestled conveniently in the San Joaquin Valley between San Francisco and the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Pacific offers its students a proximity to many exciting places including Monterey/Carmel, Lake Tahoe, the northern California wine country, and Yosemite National Park. It is adjacent to over 1,000 miles of waterways, making it the largest inland seaport in the state. THE PACIFIC EXPERIENCE • Over 80 major fields from which to choose, yet an average class size of under 20, even in the freshman year. • NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics as well as numerous club and intramural sports. • Exposure to a wide range of knowledge through the General Education program, and hundreds of opportunities for gaining “handson” experience in a chosen field. • A strong liberal arts tradition within key academic units including business, conservatory, education, engineering, international studies, and pharmacy.
• An intercultural perspective that prepares students for working in an increasingly diverse and international society. • Students sit on many decision-making committees of the University to ensure that the voice of the students is heard. • A New England-like campus in northern California. • With more than 6,000 students enrolled, Pacific is one of the smallest universities to be ranked among the top 100 national universities, both by US News & World Report and the The Washington Monthly College Guide.
An expert in heat transfer, Eibeck conducted experimental research related to electronics cooling and thermal tiles used by NASA on the space shuttles. Her later work focused on engineering educational reform, including early use of multimedia in the classroom, curriculum development and, most recently, ways to attract young people and women to the profession. She has authored or co-authored nearly 50 articles and papers. Eibeck became a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in 2008. She received the Distinguished Engineering Educator Award from the Society of Women Engineers in 1996 and the Boeing Outstanding Educator Award in 1999. Eibeck is married to William D. Jeffery, a law professor and a native of California. They have four children. Sons Andrew and Kevin live in the Bay Area. Daughter Katherine attends the University of Southern California. Their youngest son, Will, attends Santa Clara University.

PACIFIC’S MISSION
The University of the Pacific's mission is to provide a superior, student-centered learning experience integrating liberal arts and professional education and preparing individuals for lasting achievement and responsible leadership in their careers and communities. The first chartered institution of higher education in the State of California, the University of the Pacific is a mid-sized independent, comprehensive university offering a wide choice of high-quality undergraduate and graduate programs in Stockton, Sacramento, and San Francisco. Pacific is an outstanding blend of the advantages of the diverse programs of a major university and the broad, highly personalized learning of the selective liberal arts college. We accomplish our mission through highly personalized programs delivered in a caring, supportive, and attractive environment. We seek to develop and strengthen self-confidence, initiative, analytical and problem-solving abilities, and an enthusiasm for learning. Central to our mission is the dedication of our faculty and staff to excellence in teaching and advising. We encourage and support research, scholarship and creative activity as complements to our fundamental mission of teaching. Our mission dictates a commitment to leadership development, global awareness, community involvement and opportunities for individuals from diverse backgrounds. We are committed to providing practical experiences to complement classroom learning. Highly interactive student-faculty relations and a broad array of co-curricular activities that help to develop students' abilities are hallmarks of learning at the University of the Pacific. How old is Pacific? We became California’s first chartered institution of higher education in 1851. We were also the first co-ed university (the first graduating class had five men and five women). We celebrated our sesquicentennial year in 2001. What type of university is Pacific? Pacific is a comprehensive university with three campuses and eleven schools and colleges. Eight of our schools and colleges provide undergraduate education on the Stockton campus, including a college of liberal arts and sciences (College of the Pacific), six professional schools and an adult re-entry division. The Stockton campus also has a graduate school. The other two campuses are the Pacific McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento and the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco.

Is Pacific a religious or church-related university? No. Pacific was founded by and is affiliated with the Methodist Church. We do have a chapel, a full-time chaplain, a number of religious-oriented clubs, and a Department of Religious Studies, but we are not a “religious” university where students are required to attend chapel or to take religion classes. Any or all of the above are available to students who are interested, but participation in such activities is completely voluntary. Is Pacific accredited? Pacific is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), and many academic programs have additional accreditation by appropriate professional organizations.

a 3.2 grade point average over one semester to earn the accolade. Pacific attributes its success in the classroom to two primary factors. First, Pacific recruits only student-athletes who it believes can succeed at the University and who have a sincere commitment to a higher education. Second, it provides outstanding support services to students. An integral resource of support is a faculty committed to helping students obtain an education and to graduate, and who often tutor student-athletes one-on-one. Pacific intercollegiate athletics has a comprehensive academic achievement program for its student-athletes, including counseling, tutoring, monitoring services, leadership and life skills training, computer resources, and a set of standards and procedures outlined in the student-athlete handbook. Supervised study periods are provided, and a system of grade

Academics are Number One at the University of the Pacific, and Pacific is proud of its student-athletes’ performances in the classroom. In addition to having some truly outstanding individual scholar-athletes, Pacific currently boasts a graduation rate of over 96 percent for all recruited student-athletes who exhaust their athletic eligibility. During the spring semester of 2011, Pacific studentathletes posted a combined grade point average of 3.0. Pacific is annually represented on Big West Academic All-Conference teams, Academic All-America teams, and boasts NCAA Post-Graduate Scholars in several sports. For the 2010-11 academic year, Pacific honored 104 Big West Conference Scholar-Athletes. In order to qualify for the distinction, studentathletes must record a 3.0 grade point average over their two most recently completed semesters. Freshmen are required to attain

Faculty and counseling resources help keep studentathletes at Pacific on track to graduate in four years. Located in the heart of the Pacific Intercollegiate Athletics Center, the Pacific Student-Athlete Resource Center, includes state-of-the-art computer facilities and is used exclusively by student-athletes. A special opportunity exists for student-athlete participation at Pacific with the Pacific Student-Athlete Council. The council is comprised of elected student-athlete representatives from each Division I team. The council sponsors a variety of activities throughout the year for Pacific student-athletes and youth in the community. To be a student-athlete at University of the Pacific is truly a unique experience. One can compete athletically at the NCAA Division I level with the best in the nation and, at the same time, have an outstanding educational experience with a dedicated faculty. • Administration • VICE PRESIDENT OF EXTERNAL RELATIONS & ATHLETICS
TED LELAND
Dr. Ted Leland, the Vice President for External Relations and Athletics, took over as the athletic director of Pacific Athletics on July 1, 2011. Beginning his second stint as the director, Leland will oversee Pacific Athletics for a two year period while overseeing the implementation of Pacific’s new strategic plan for Intercollegiate Athletics-a plan that he and and former athletic director Lynn King created while working together over the previous year. In addition to his duties in the athletic department, Leland will retain his status as vice president for external relations. At the end of the two-year period, Leland will resume full-time duties as vice president for External Relations and conduct a search for a new athletics director. Leland last ran Pacific’s athletic department from 1989-91 before moving on to Stanford where he was the athletic director until 2005. During his 14 years at Stanford, Dr. Ted Leland not only led the Stanford Athletic Department to unprecedented success both on and off the playing field, but earned a reputation as one of the nation’s top athletic administrators. Leland was named The Jaquish & Kenninger Director of Athletics at Stanford University on June 7, 1991, and has been the guiding force in leading an athletics program that was voted as “the most admired collegiate athletic program in the nation.” During his tenure, Stanford won the prestigious Directors’ Cup, emblematic of the top athletic program in the nation, for the last 11 years and the Cardinal won more NCAA championships than any other school in the nation. Under Leland’s stewardship, Stanford’s athletic program enjoyed tremendous success in fund raising and athletic facilities were vastly improved. From 1991-2005, Stanford won 50 national team championships and 173 conference championships, including an NCAA record six national titles in 1996-97. Cardinal teams consistently competed for the national championship in virtually every sport every year. In 2004-05 alone, Stanford had 26 programs finish in the Top 25 nationally, including 10 in the Top 5 and 16 in the Top 10. In the area of fundraising, the Athletic Department raised over $270 million in private donations, and its assets and endowments grew from $52 million to $374.9 million during Leland’s tenure. In addition, approximately $185 million in new or renovated athletic facilities were completed and funded. Leland’s peers and colleagues have honored him on several occasions. He was presented the Dick Enberg Award by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) in 2004. The award is presented to “a person whose actions and commitment have furthered the meaning and reach of the Academic All-America programs and/or student-athletes while promoting the values of education and academics.” In 2000-01, Leland was honored by NACDA (National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics) and the Street & Smith’s Sports Business Journal as the Athletic Director of the Year. The award recognized an Athletic Director for demonstration of commitment to higher education and student-athletes, continuous teamwork, loyalty and excellence, and the ability to inspire individuals or groups to higher levels of accomplishments. In 2008, he was elected into the organization’s hall of fame. Leland has served on numerous national committees throughout his career. He is currently a member of the University of the Pacific Board of Regents and the Board of Directors of Opportunities Industrialization Center West (a non-profit community-based job training center on the Menlo Park-East Palo Alto border). He has been a member of the Division I NCAA Committee on Infractions and the NACDA Executive Committee, and has served on various other Pac-10 and NCAA committees. In June of 2002, Leland was named a co-chairman of the United States Secretary of Education’s Commission on Opportunity in Athletics. The 15-member panel examined ways of strengthening enforcement of Title IX and expanding opportunities to ensure fairness for all college athletes. Leland served a two-year term as the Chairman of the NCAA Management Council. He was a member of the Management Council for eight years. After serving as Stanford’s Director of Athletics for 12 years, Leland was granted a “Special Research Leave” from his post in the spring of 2003. During an 11-week absence, Leland was a Distinguished Visiting Scholar at the Hoover Institution on campus, conducted research on a book, and wrote and delivered several speeches on national issues related to intercollegiate athletics. In addition to Stanford and Pacific, Leland was also the athletic director at Dartmouth College from 198389. His other career stops have included Northwestern University, where he was a Senior Associate Athletic Director from 1981-83 and the University of Houston as an Assistant Athletic Director from 1979-81. He was an assistant football coach and instructor of physical education at Stanford in 1978-79. Leland grew up in Northern California, graduated from Hayward High School and later attended Chabot College. He earned both his Bachelor’s (1970) and Master’s (1972) degrees from the University of the Pacific, prior to adding a Ph.D. from Stanford in 1982 in education/sports psychology. While an undergraduate at Pacific, Leland earned First Team All-PCAA football honors as a defensive end in 1969. He later coached football at Pacific, Stanford and East Tennessee State. In addition to his work in athletic administration, Leland has held the position of “adjunct professor” at Dartmouth College, Pacific and Stanford, teaching courses in Sports Psychology and the Philosophy of Sport. He is currently a Distinguished Visiting Scholar at the Hoover Institution at Stanford. Leland and his wife, Stefanie, have two children: Amanda and Bo.

Strength and conditioning is an integral part of any student-athlete’s life. At Pacific, new facilities combined with a dedicated staff work toward success on the playing field for Tiger student-athletes. “Strength and conditioning are critical to maximal athletic performance,” Pacific Athletic Director Lynn King said. “The University of the Pacific is proud of its Athletic Performance Center and staffing to assist our student-athletes in this vital part of their training and development.” The multi-purpose weight training and fitness facility within the Pacific Intercollegiate Athletics Center is 4,000 square feet and includes 10 Olympic platforms, 10 racks, five bench presses, five adjustable inclines, two full racks of dumbbells, over 50 medicine balls, 35 Swiss balls, six adjustable plyometric boxes and was completed in July of 1998. The newest addition to the athletic performance facilities is a 2,000 square foot conditioning room with plyometric flooring and 20 Schwinn Spin Bikes. “The Athletic Performance staff works hand-in-hand with sport coaches to assure the student-athlete develops physical strength, endurance and agility,” King said. “This training serves as a basis for the work ethic required to reach one’s full potential.”
MARCUS DORIN Asst. Director of Athletic Performance Marcus Dorin joined the Athletic Performance staff in January 2008 as the Assistant Director of Athletic Performance and is responsible for the year-round training for nine of Pacific’s athletic teams.
