Registration Conference registration includes admission to all conference sessions, as well as entrance to the Exhibit Hall and Exhibit Hall events. Hands-On courses require separate registration. Each registrant will also receive a Conference Program on-site, an attendee bag and a Conference At A Glance. Your name badge is your passport to all conference activities and must be worn at all times.

Online registration for the conference will close at midnight Friday, February 21st, 2014 in preparation for opening at the Vancouver Convention Centre. On-site registration will be available at the times listed below, beginning Tuesday, March 4th.

If registering by mail, we will accept the enclosed registration form if received in the Pacific Dental Conference office by 4pm Friday, February 21st, 2014. (Pacific Dental Conference 305–1505 West 2nd Avenue, Vancouver, BC V6H 3Y4) The applicable fees will be charged as of the date the form is received by our office. Please note: All registration confirmations are sent by email. To receive a confirmation, please include an email address on your form.

Name badges for Canadian and US attendees will be mailed to all those registered by Friday, February 14th, 2014. For registrations received after February 14th, 2014, badges must be picked up at the registration area at the Vancouver Convention Centre, West Building. For international registrations, badges must be picked up on-site (badges will not be mailed out).

Registration Policies Registration Categories

BC Dentist: To register as an active BC Dentist, you must provide either your BCDA membership number or CDSBC license number. DTABC Member Technician: To register as a DTABC Member Technician you must provide your DTABC Number. Dental Technician or Denturist: To register as a dental technician or denturist, you must provide your license number. Students: To register as a student, you must be currently enrolled in a full time dental program. School and student number must be provided. Please note: Student Registration does include lunch and reception drinks for both days.

Name Badge Reprinting

You will receive your name badge by mail. Verify the information and contact the Pacific Dental Conference immediately if there are any errors. Badges returned to the office by February 21st, 2014 will be reprinted at no charge. After February 21st, 2014 incorrect badges can be exchanged and reprinted on-site for a $15 charge. If the original badge is not returned on-site, there will be a $35 charge to reprint the badge. Attendees who have pre-registered before February 18th, and not received their badge should contact the PDC.

Refunds

Refund requests must be submitted in writing by February 4th, 2014, and are subject to a $25 (plus GST) cancellation fee.

Privacy Policy

Information collected by the Pacific Dental Conference for registration and communication purposes is not shared with any other company or organization.

Letter of Invitation

Attendees requiring an official letter of invitation to obtain a visa can download the letter from the account page once the registration is complete, go to www.pdconf.com. The invitation does not financially obligate the conference in any way. Attendees who are denied visa entry into Canada for the duration of the conference will have all registration fees refunded, by the original payment method provided.

Continuing Education Information Reporting Your CE in British Columbia

It is the responsibility of each individual to submit their own CE to their provincial authority.

For B.C. Dentists and Certified Dental Assistants (CDAs), continuing education (CE) credits may be accumulated as follows: 1. Hour-for-hour credit (to a maximum of 5 hours) for visiting the exhibits AND/OR 2. Hour-for-hour credit for eligible session attendance. Dentists and CDAs can submit their PDC CE credits online by visiting www.cdsbc.org and logging in with their registration/certification number and password. Registrants can also print and complete an individual CE credit submission form (available at www.cdsbc.org/ce_forms) and email it to CE@cdsbc.org. Note that some PDC sessions may not be eligible for CE and will be identified under the session write-up in the final conference program. CDSBC reminds dentists and CDAs to be aware of the maximum limits allowed for certain subjects. Please see the College’s Continuing Education Requirements document for complete information. Note: You must attend the conference to be able to receive credits.

The PDC has a reputation among speakers for its hospitality and this is mostly due to the Hosts who help make the speaker’s experience in Vancouver a pleasant one. It’s a rewarding experience with some perks! If you agree to be a Host, you will be credited your registration fee following the conference. What exactly does a Host do? Hosts are the liaisons between the Pacific Dental Conference and the speakers and have the prime responsibility to ensure their stay and presentation at our meeting is a positive experience. Duties of a host include: • introducing your speaker at the presentation • monitoring the presentation • accompanying your speaker to breakfast or lunch in the Speaker’s Lounge • thanking the speaker at the end of their presentation A full Host Package is sent to you well in advance of the conference with detailed information on the duties of a Host. In addition to this, the Pacific Dental Conference holds a Host Wine & Cheese Reception just prior to the conference where you will have the opportunity to meet other Hosts, have a tour of the Vancouver Convention Centre and receive a verbal overview of the tasks ahead of you. CDA/Dentsply Student Clinician Research Program – Table Clinics The CDA/DENTSPLY Student Clinician Research Program was introduced in 1971. Since then, the Canadian Dental Association (CDA) and DENTSPLY International have worked together to motivate and recognize hundreds of bright young minds to investigate new approaches to a wide array of oral health concerns. Student clinicians present their clinics to a panel of judges in a closed session. The judging session is followed by an open session on Thursday during which student clinicians have to opportunity to present their work to convention delegates. (Location to be announced in final program) DENTSPLY provides all awards and prizes. The first prize is an expense-paid trip to the American Dental Association (ADA) Annual Session, where the student clinician will make his or her winning presentation on a non-competitive basis, as part of the ADA’s scientific program. The second prize is $1,000 cash. All participants receive a certificate of appreciation from CDA and DENTSPLY for their contribution to the table clinic program. Prizes and awards are presented at the CDA/DENTSPLY Awards Reception.

Morning Presentations Botox as an Adjunct to Everyday Dental Practice Martin Braun, MD

Thursday, 8:30am–11:00am Members of the dental profession will learn how Botox can play an increasingly large part in the management of conditions such bruxism, TMJ dysfunction, and various headache syndromes, in addition to cosmetic concerns such as reshaping of the lower facial features. Martin Braun is one of the most accomplished and respected cosmetic rejuvenation physicians practicing in the Vancouver area. After receiving his MD from UBC in 1984, he opened Vancouver Laser and Skin Care Centre,devoting his practice exclusively to injectables and inject more Botox and Juvederm than anyone in Canada.

This lecture will focus on the important role a CDA can play in an oral surgery office. The aim will be to describe the various techniques and types of office anesthesia as well as the process involved to provide supportive anesthesia/sedation care in a safe and effective manner. Martin Aidelbaum is a certified specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is the Chair of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and responsible for teaching IV sedation at UBC. He is a consultant for the BC Cancer Agency and chair of the Division of Dentistry at Surrey Memorial Hospital. He has mentored numerous CDA’s to achieve DAANCE qualifications. He maintains a private practice in Surrey. Jason Chen is a certified specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery. He received his dental degree from UBC and completed his oral surgery residency at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, New York. He is also a consultant for the BC Cancer Agency and a clinical associate professor at UBC. He is involved in teaching IV sedation at UBC. He maintains a private practice in Surrey. April Patton has been a CDA for 25 years with her primary focus as a surgical assistant; first in the periodontal specialty field and now in the oral surgery field. She has certification in OMAAP/DAANCE. She is currently enjoying her role as clinic manager of the outpatient surgical centre and lead surgical assistant at Pacific Coast Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Surrey.

Thursday, 1:30pm–4:00pm Celiac disease (CD) patients have damaged intestines and poor absorption of nutrients. Enamel hypoplasia and mouth ulcers are symptomatic of CD. The talk will cover the aetiology of CD, the differential diagnosis of enamel lesions and oral ulcers, and celiac patient management. Hardy Limeback is a biochemist (PhD) and GP dentist from the University of Toronto (‘83). He was Head of Preventive Dentistry from ‘94 to 2012. He practiced for 30 years, the last 20 as a solo dentist. He was Chief Dentist for Metro Toronto Homes for the Aged and served on the 2006 NRC Committee on Fluoride in Drinking Water. As Professor Emeritus he continues to lecture in Canada and the US.

Robert Hicks Memorial Lecture

As the founding Chairman of the BC Dental Meeting, Dr. Robert Hicks started the meeting format that evolved into today’s Pacific Dental Conference. In 1988, he said “While the quality of the scientific program and the dental trade exhibits must justify the valuable time we set aside to attend continuing education events, we should never lose sight of the importance of the social contact we enjoy when we attend [the Pacific Dental Conference]”. This philosophy has continued to foster the growth of the Pacific Dental Conference to the current day. New paradigms will be presented to enlighten participants about understanding occlusal dysfunction. This focus will develop principles for force management of the masticatory system and parameters to determine the most appropriate occlusal scheme.
