Behind the Magical Music!

The music at the San Amelmo Art & Wine Festival brings back the sounds of the 1970s in 2010 with a myriad of tribute bands sharing the music of the Eagles, Tom Petty, The Who, Santana, and the Beatles. It will be hard to select which stage to choose so be prepared to sprint between the ’70s Bolinas Blast Stage and the Trippin’ Tunstead Stage to see the great line-up of bands, including: the Boys of Summer, Wonderbread 5, the Sun Kings and The Who Show.

The Who Show

Who are you? The Who Show travels from LA to recreate the Who concert experience from the British band with hits such as “My Generation” and “Pinball Wizard.” This tribute band performs all over the country and comes complete with costumes and is a must-see. According to VH1, this band is “the most believable ’70s era Who tribute” and Roger Daltrey of the Who extols performer France DiCarlo as “the reincarnation of Keith Moon”. Other band members include Joel Pelletier as John Entwistle, Stephen Shareaux as Roger Daltry and Garrett Griffin as Pete Townsend. They are all professional musicians with decades of national and international performing experience. The Who Show 2010 summer tour includes more than 30 cities. Few bands have had a more lasting impact on the rock era than The Who. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 and have sold more than 100 million records worldwide.

The Boys of Summer

The Boys of Summer soar with the sound of The Eagles. Sometime in the ’60s, an unknown band called Shilo hit LA. Singer Richard Boden led the band with their drummer - a curly haired vocalist named Don (Henley that is). We’re not sure what happened to Shilo, but Henley connected with singer-songwriter Glen Frey. They formed a band that came to define the “California sound” and called themselves The Eagles. The rest of the story is welldocumented history. Henley wrote, sang, and played drums with flawless meter. He sang with searing textured lead and backup vocals. He led the band to success that no other “country rock” band had ever achieved. With this in mind and with the deepest respect for Henley and his legacy of great songs The Boys of Summer strive to recreate the heartfelt experience that is the music of Don Henley.

Drew Harrison

In the vein of Bono and Lennon, singer-songwriter Drew Harrison is one of those rare recording artists with the ability to translate life into song. His passionate, honest, and intense style resonates in the vein of Bono, Ritchie Havens and John Lennon. He leads a very successful band, The Sun Kings, in the San Francisco Bay Area and currently performs more than 100 shows a year both solo and with his band. Harrison’s solo performances and his “In the Spirit of Lennon” shows have yielded much praise. As a solo artist he has performed in Europe, South America, and in the States he’s been invited to open for such artists as Richard Thompson, Lyle Lovett, and Steve Miller to name a few. His abilities as a multitalented performer have earned him fans throughout the world and his critically acclaimed solo release, Go it Alone, has enjoyed robust success. Harrison has also found time for stage, TV, film, and completing a degree at UC Berkeley, adhering to a simple philosophy of living life fully, and giving back when one can.

10 SAN ANSELMO ART & WINE FESTIVAL

Wonderbread 5

Wonderbread 5 doesn’t usually need an introduction. Pretty much everyone in Marin County has heard of this delightful band that covers everything from Motown and more with a continually changing lineup of songs and crazy costumes and Jackson 5 wigs. They can change from singing “More Than a Woman” by the Bee Gees to “Hells Bells” from AC/DC in a flash. This disco-style band is just a lot of fun and sure to put a smile on your face so expect to hear music from the ’70s and more.

Petty Theft

Petty Theft rocks! At the forefront of classic and contemporary rock and roll are the popular Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The music is part of the American culture and appeals to music fans of all ages. The Bay Area band Petty Theft consists of six professional musicians, who have come together to pay tribute to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Petty Theft delivers Tom Petty’s songs true to the originals and in the spirit of his legendary live shows, performing everything from the revered classics to most current hits. Since Petty Theft’s inception in 2005, the popular band has been entertaining audiences on stages of all sizes throughout the state, where a sing-a-long is always guaranteed. Petty Theft is not about the costumes - it’s all about quality music.

The Sun Kings

What if the Beatles reunited? You would have the Sun Kings! The Sun Kings finished up 2009 with a stellar year of shows with audiences up to 30,000 people and 2010 looks to be an even better year, with a trip to The Beatles’ hometown of Liverpool, where the popular Beatles tribute band has been invited to perform at the Beatle’s Week in August. The Sun Kings has been packing theatres, music halls, and outdoor festivals for nearly a decade. Their attention to detail is uncanny and their energy reminiscent of the joy and excitement felt at a real Beatles concert. The Sun Kings repertoire includes more than 100 Beatles songs spanning The Beatles’ entire musical career from “She Loves You” to “I am the Walrus” to side 2 of Abbey Road. Alhough they do not dress up, their attention to detail and ability to capture the authenticity and vitality of the music has gained them critical acclaim and respect amongst Beatles purists, as well as fans around the country. Expect to hear favorite Beatles’ songs performed brilliantly. And of course, expect to have a FAB-ulous time!

Zebop!

Santana lovers gather whenever Zebop! hits the stage. The band was named for the 1981 Santana album of the same name and has been entertaining since 2005. Lead guitarist Antonio Marquez was the genius behind the group who visualized a tribute band honoring the music of Carlos Santana. Santana fans have discovered Zebop! and flock to dance and sway to these musicians including: percussionist Ernesto Angulo, drummer Arturo Padilla, conguero Luis Enrique (Qique) Sandoval, vocalist Alfredo Eduardo Lazo, keyboardist Dave Pierce, and bass player Chris Hartje.

+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + S A N

Magic Show

Awardwinning magician Benny Bendini will delight with his performance that includes magic, music and mime, so be sure to get to the festival early. Bendini is the cofounder of the Magic Circus and has more than 20 years experience in Europe and America. He was featured in several films including Dr. Dolittle, The Princess Diaries and the TV series Nash Bridges. Bendini was winner of the Pacific Coast Stage Magic Contest.

The Indestructibles

When you combine two of Sacramento’s most popular bands, the result is indestructible! Before joining forces to become the area’s hottest live party band, the Indestructibles were members of two of Sacramento’s most sought-after original groups: Popgun and The Brodys. With 25 years of entertainment experience, The Indestructibles have mastered songs from the ’50s to current hits. They play songs from Neil Diamond to Weezer to Garth Brooks to the Cure. Hear that favorite song from any era: from pop to dance, country to funk, classic rock to alternative and you won’t be able to stop dancing. Dressed to kill, the boys have such a good time on stage they infect the audiences with their spirited energy and positive vibe.

Savannah Blue Savannah

Blue is a powerful contemporary bluegrass band with soulful vocals and driving rhythm. Savannah pushes bluegrass far beyond its rural roots with originals that resonate from traditional bluegrass soul and demonstrate a mastery of imaginative creativity. Savannah Blue approaches music with high spirits and boundless energy refusing to sit still. Savannah Blue’s signature sound stems from their emphasis on original material, inspired by each member’s influences. Savannah Blue consists of Gary Kaye, banjo; Dore Coller, guitar and lead vocals; Dave Hanks, mandolin-vocals; Steve Kallai, fiddle-vocals; and Dan Large on bass.
