BRAND STORY

Tiffany & Co. Celebrates the 130th Anniversary of an Icon: The Tiffany Setting Timeless | Elegant | Legendary The year was 1886 when founder Charles Lewis Tiffany had an idea that would elevate the standards of excellence for generations to come. In an age where diamond rings were set in bezels close to the band, Mr. Tiffany decided to create a standout ring that would highlight the brilliance of his worldclass diamonds. And thus, the Tiffany Setting was born.

[ It is the ring that ends with “I do.” ] Unlike any other engagement ring of its time, the platinum six-prong design raised the round diamond onto a pedestal above the band, allowing light to reflect off of every expertly crafted cut and angle. His exquisite innovation has endured the last 130 years, captivating brides-to-be from around the globe and gaining cultural prestige in art, film, and literature as the epitome of romance. To most, the Tiffany Setting is more than just an engagement ring; it has become the quintessential symbol for everlasting love. It is the ring that more than five generations of men have chosen to represent their utmost devotion. It is the ring that a woman will gaze at one million times in her life. It is the ring that ends with “I do.”

Unparalleled Craftsmanship from Start to Finish Tiffany’s leading commitment to quality makes it the most coveted engagement ring of all time. Every ethically mined diamond is analyzed by 3–8 highly trained gemologists with 99.96% of gem-grade diamonds being rejected for not meeting the brand’s rigorous standards. Its setting is meticulously handcrafted just as it was 130 years ago, making it truly one-of-a-kind. Once complete, the engagement ring receives a Tiffany Diamond Certificate backed by warranty to ensure the stone’s grade for life. It is this adherence to excellence that upholds Tiffany’s reputation as the premier diamond jeweler. 32

The Strict Standards of Tiffany Brilliance Cut

The positioning, shape, and angle of a diamond’s facets, which add to its precise symmetry and overall brilliance.

Color

Only diamonds deemed “near colorless” or better are approved by Tiffany as tints of color indicate minute impurities.

Clarity

A scale of flawlessness based on internal and external imperfections that are visible under 10-power magnification.

Carat

The weight of a diamond.

[

These factors together are what give a Tiffany diamond its extraordinary brilliance and make it sparkle like no other.

5 HIGHLIGHTS OF THE NEW INTERNATIONAL MARKET PLACE

Hawai‘i is excited to unveil the newly reimagined International Market Place, now open on Kalākaua Avenue in the heart of Waikīkī. Anchored by New York department store Saks Fifth Avenue, this

charming open air space offers an impressive collection of retailers and restaurants to choose from. While the previous International Market Place was known as a lively plaza lined with small shops, it

has been reborn into a unique shopping destination with an air of luxury and elegance for all to enjoy. Here are the highlights of the new International Market Place.

1) Hawai‘i’s most exciting new stores Shop to your heart’s content at approximately 75

trendy retailers, many of which are the first brick-

and-mortar of its kind in Hawai‘i. The most highly anticipated openings include Anthropologie, Christian Louboutin, Free People, Hollister,

INTERMIX, Jo Malone London, Michael Kors,

Oliver Peoples, Shinola, Trina Turk, Yogasmoga,

and of course the anchor store, Saks Fifth Avenue.

2) The 150-year-old banyan tree and flowing water features The Banyan tree’s iconic presence dates back long before the International Market Place. Therefore,

developers took the necessary measures to protect the tree during construction, allowing its ancient

branches to continue spreading far and wide over

the new shopping center. Together with its cascading rain curtain, streams, and Hawaiian healing garden, International Market Place creates an atmosphere that honors the rich landscape of Hawai‘i. Take a

break at one of the many benches throughout the Market Place and relax in this serene space. 52

3) Lessons about the history and culture of Waikīkī Situated among the banyan tree’s branches is

a historical exhibit about International Market

Place’s original founder, Don the Beachcomber,

which is built to resemble the very treehouse he once lived in. Additionally, if guests wish to gain an even deeper understanding of the unique history and culture of Waikīkī, there are 25

informative plates scattered around the Market

Place featuring a QR code that you can scan with your mobile phone for an interactive cultural experience! Can you find them all?

4) A collection of gourmet eateries on the Grand Lānai

The entire top floor, called the Grand Lānai, is devoted to gourmet dining. Whether you’re craving the culinary stylings of a Michelin-starred restaurant or the authenticity of a meal expertly crafted with locally sourced ingredients, guests can enjoy delicious food in a chic indoor setting or out on the terrace.

The Grand Lānai’s lineup includes eight restaurants: Baku (Spring 2017), Eating House 1849 by Roy Yamaguchi, Flour & Barley, Goma Tei Ramen, Herringbone (March 2017), Kona Grill, STRIPSTEAK by Michael Mina, and Yauatcha (February 2017).

5) The sunset ceremony and evening entertainment

Locals and tourists alike gather to watch as the Lamakū Torch Tower is ceremoniously lit ablaze every day after sun down. Its burning flame signifies the start of an evening filled with Hawaiian and Polynesian song and dance performances taking place in the Queen’s Court. In honor of the beloved Queen Emma, the free evening show introduces the stories, traditions, and culture of International Market Place.

Island Snow SHOPPING Kailua

Founded more than 30 years ago in 1979, this iconic specialty shop has become an integral part of Kailua’s flourishing history. Its owner envisioned a gathering place for friends and family alike, leading to the shop’s unique offering of both Island Snow’s original brand clothing and signature shave ice. Today, Island Snow operates two locations and carries everything from coveted brands such as Stussy, Herschel, and Vissla to local favorites like Hilife, Kailua Boys, Reyn Spooner and more. Their melt-in-your-mouth shave ice uses Hawaii made syrups and has become a favorite for many – most notably President Obama. It’s the perfect treat for your trip to nearby Kailua Beach or as you explore the lush Windward side. Kailua Beach Center 130 Kailua Rd. Waikiki Map

An easy way to navigate Waikiki is by identifying its major

roads. Kalakaua Avenue (running parallel to Waikiki Beach

towards Diamond Head) is Waikiki's primary shopping spot, lined with storefronts and bustling with people. On the

other hand, Kuhio Avenue can be thought of as the main

route for TheBus while the walkway along Ala Wai Canal is a great place for a stroll. Remember, there are many one-way streets within Waikiki so people with rental cars should be cautious while driving.

How to Ride TheBus

Look for the yellow plates labeled “TheBus” along Kuhio Avenue, which is where many designated bus stops are. Bus numbers and destinations are displayed on the front of each bus. Kuhio Avenue (also running parallel to the beach, but inland) is a main route for TheBus, while the Ala Wai Canal, located a block away, is a great place for a stroll. If you need to transfer to another bus, just let the driver know at the time of boarding and he will gladly give you a transfer ticket. Transfer tickets are valid for up to two connections before the printed time at the top and must be presented to the bus driver. As your destination nears, pull the cord above the window and simply push on the hand-operated door as you are exiting. Fare: 1 Adult ticket $2.50, Children $1.25 (6 – 17 years old) Four-day unlimited bus passes ($35) and one-month commuter passes ($60) can be purchased at ABC Stores or at Satellite City Hall inside Ala Moana Center.
