PAD 10 Capability

PAD10 is an interdisciplinary architectural design firm that hosts creative minds in the fields of architecture, interior design, and graphic design. Our cross-disciplinary practice emerges from a belief that spatial and visual communications operate in unison rather than in mutually exclusive spheres; our continuous experimentation with multiple perceptual fields weave a culture in the becoming. PAD10 is involved in many prestigious projects such as the architectural, landscaping, interior design, and branding of the Pearl Marzouq mixed-use complex (40,000sqm), the renovation of BOT projects (Souq al-Kuwait and Souq al-Kabeer) and many prestigious high-end private residences. PAD10's insight and interaction with Kuwait’s cultural scene is documented by the 'the Kulture Files', a quarterly pamphlet it curates and circulates. PAD10 has collaborated with many local and international consultants to deliver projects of excellence. As design architects, PAD10 collaborated with SSHI and SQC as local consultants, with Farouqi as structural engineering consult- ants, and with Aedas and Davis Brody Bond New York as interna- tional consultants. PAD10 was established in Kuwait in 2009. PAD7 was established as satellite office in Lebanon in 2014. Our international experience and personal commitment, coupled with our belief that excellence and uniqueness lies within a genuine understanding of our clients brief, are demonstrated in PAD10’s portfolio.

PAD 10 Set up

The PAD10 corporate network consists of three domain controllers (Windows 2008 R2 std), one exchange server (Exchange 2010 with SP1 and DigiCert SSL), and one Share Point server (SharePoint 2010 foundation) used to track job details such as start of job, completion and job status. In addition to this, the network has a centralized file server where jobs are created automatically via software and centrally managed. This server gets backed up to a backup server running Veeam Backup & Replication System. High Availability and Business continuity structure deploys by running the Systems IT infrastructure on a virtual environment as well as the physical environment; a real time replication on the servers provide us with zero down time in case of any hardware failure on the servers. Employees at PAD10 have the latest Apple Mac Systems, Dell XPS systems and Dell Business systems. The office is equipped with a 3D state of the art Z-Corp printer for rapid prototyping and 3D model printing, a plotter and a Xerox Color MFP (Multi-Function Printer); all connected to the staff network. The telephone system runs on CISCO IP telephony with DID (Direct Inward Dialing) features. The entire network is protected by FortiGate Firewall, (front end) and all the PC systems are installed with Symantec End Point Protection suite. The core network runs on 1000 Mbps switches. The network is maintained by a specialized IT team and troubleshooting is mainly carried out via remote assistance over the Internet/ VPN/ physical visits. For communication, PAD10 has installed in place MS Email exchange server, and a programmed FTP application that is customized for unique clients/jobs with unique access for files transmittals. PAD10 is proud to have licensed and certified users of ArchiCAD, a leading BIM (Building Information Modeling) solution. Additionally, PAD10 has licensed AutoCAD 2015, MS Office 2013, and Adobe CC 2015 software.

3D Printing

PAD10 has one of the latest 3D printing machines that can depend on. The ZPrinter z350 is part of the ZPrinter family of 3D Printers that are the fastest and rapid prototyping machines in the world. Office friendly and easy to use makes it possible to build high quality mockups in a very short period of time.

PAD10 incorporates the latest BIM (Building Information Modeling) software, namely ArchiCAD 20, to implement on any given project which is feasible to the client, architect and engineers.

PAD 10 BIM Adoption

The 3D package assists in better developing a single building in a virtual environment which replicates real world conditions and very quickly and very accurately build a 3D prototype of the building during various stages of the design process and at each stage more details and accuracy is added to the model. The BIM ArchiCAD model complimented by powerful hardware and highly experienced BIM-user architects to fully exploit the technical benefits of the software and implied values of the project. The software allows in better communicating the design process to the client and various consultants in walk-thru gamelike format with ease into 2D AutoCAD drawing. This process enables architects, clients, engineers and other consultants to better understand the implications of various aspects in their preferred medium.

EcoDesigner STAR Standard Compliant Energy Analysis (Full Energy Performance Analysis)

www.pad10.com

BIM Archicad offers the following advantages over the traditional CAD software: 1. Dynamic Energy evaluation with the integrated ArchiCAD Ecodesigner. • Environmentally: With kit-of parts façade design approach, complemented by recent “integrated eco-designer technology” into BIM software used by PAD10 on the project, energy analysis on building performance is integral from early on in shaping the project’s facades and specifying their physical properties. Using the greenest BIM solution in the market today, we will enable dynamic energy analyses early on in the design process to provide full energy performance on the project, based on standard compliant technology. This will be an asset to the design and construction teams, and foremost to the Owner.

3. Precise quantity surveys with brand new model base junction technology goes into detail which economizes significantly on material quantities • Economically: The Owner is given the opportunity to have the project executed in 3 phases, whereby each entity can function separately and once complete, they function as one, knitted by the landscape and public amenities. Additionally, during the design development process, recent “model base automatic junction technology” in BIM software used by PAD10, goes into the detail of how the different elements of the building come together quantifying each and every material with significant reductions and savings on time and cost from traditional QS practices.

2. The information can be translated to the client as a friendly client interface game like scenario which can be viewed on various mobile platforms such as Apple IOS and Android, also using Windows or OSX using BIMx.

4. Documentation can be simultaneously generated during the design process. The BIM model can be exported to each in his/ her preferred medium as data (.xls), drawing (.dwg), 3D model for rendering as a movie, all centered back to the real virtual model.

Naji Moujaes Mr. Naji Moujaes is principal architect and founder of PAD10. Mr. Moujaes is instrumental in maintaining a level of excellence in the multidisciplinary setup of PAD10, akin to his practice in New York for the past decade and training in Japan and Italy. Mr. Moujaes was recently awarded the AIA Presidential Citation as an ‘Architect of Healing’ in Washington DC, following his role as Design Architect for the World Trade Center Memorial Museum (2015 AIA Architecture and Interior Honor Awards). An examination of the role of landscape in architecture, interior in slipping outwards, and stretching the public sphere without compromising privacy are thresholds of interest in shaping projects in which he is involved. The WTC memorial in NYC, Al-Montazah resort masterplan in Sharm Al-Shaikh, the Beirut Marina waterfront project in Lebanon, and the Pearl Marzouq mixed use project involve simultaneous operations of architecture to multiple users, where a destination is created out of a place. Mr. Moujaes’ previous experience includes also Valeo factory in São Paulo (Winner of AIA New York State Design Award 2007) and Human Rights in China at the Empire State Building (Winner of 2005 AIA New York Chapter Design Award), both built. He has been recognized internationally by numerous awards, publications and exhibitions for quality and excellence in design. He is a recipient of the prestigious 2002 Young Architects Forum Award and the 2010 Emerging Voices by The Architectural League of New York, Shinkenchiku Japan Architect (JA) honorable mention and AIA First Honorable Mention in the Competition for a ‘Center for Czech Architecture, Prague’. He also won the Arab Cultural Center vision competition organized by Mosaic Foundation in Washington DC.

allowing for a flexible and easily transformable workspace able to accommodate the client’s multiple uses. Jumeirah Cultural Center Dubai, UAE Partner-in-Charge Design of a park and cultural center, to serve the newly developed Jumeirah Village South. The project negotiates between architecture and landscape to create a cultural crescent at the intersection of two landscapes: the lake and the park. Czech National Library Prague, the Czech Republic Partner-in-charge A national and cultural emblem overlooking the Vltava river and adding to Prague’s preserved silhouette, the national library is a footnote in the rich history of the Czech identity. Its sole function is to retain knowledge and provide a place to harvest and debate it. The design of the library, with five individual wings, provides a central space that connects diagonally the different wings and vertically a formal entrance on the ground to a park stroll, an extension of the roof. The Criminal Investigation Headquarters Al-Surra, Kuwait Partner-in-Charge The CIB massing mediates between the monumentalism typical of a governmental building, forming an urban gateway to the ministries area, and the low residences to the back. This urban threshold dynamically ramps up from the flat desertscape to become a building-canopy shading a reflecting pool with common-use pavilions. Four Films Printing Factory Sabhan, Kuwait Partner-in-Charge A printing factory, located on a corner site, unfurls its roof to capture the only possible north light. Its south main facade is punctured with deep openings of the corner office window and a cantilevered entrance wedged out from the corner of the white concrete box. The design successfully overcomes the limitations of the site to create a vertical work flow.

Pearl Marzouq Ras Salmiya, Kuwait Partner-in-Charge The retooling of Pearl Marzouq examines reprogramming access and open spaces, landscape design, interior design, and architectural renovation. The project will be an overlay rather than an erasure of a modern architectural icon. Beirut Marina (Mixed-use Development) Beirut, Lebanon Partner A mixed-use project composed of a one-storey retail strip which stretches along the marina dock and is tucked underneath the corniche walk. The latter spans above the cafes and restaurants, overlooking the marina and elevates gradually above the chalets complex underneath, jotting into the Mediterranean and wedged in between the marina and the new city landfill.
