Brand Guidelines

Identity

Our history The company was founded in New York in 1907 by Morris and Rose Michtom as the Ideal Novelty and Toy Company. It changed its name to Ideal Toy Company in 1938. In 1902, before the company was founded, the Michtom prodused and sold the first Teddy Bears, whose success led to the founding of the company. The company had its heyday in the 1960s and 1970s, producing many popular toys and board games, such as the notable line of Evel Knievel action figures and toys.

In 1982, the company was sold to CBS Toy Company, which in turn sold Ideal to Viewmaster International and renamed itself View–Master Ideal in the process in 1987. View–Master Ideal was later bought by Tyco Toys, Inc. of Mt. Laurel, New Jersey. The Ideal line remained part of Tyco until Tyco’s merger with Mattel, Inc., in 1997. Then in 2003, Poof Products, Inc. acquired substantially all of the assets of Ideal Toy, located in Ronkonkoma, NY.

Brand Guidelines

Identity

Who we are In the past, this traditional toy company just sold toys for children. Parents bought the toys at the store and then went home, letting their children play with them. However, there are many things we can do for the children instead of only offering toys.

We want to infuse play with inspiration and interaction, and let toys not just be toys but a motivational experience. Furthermore, we want to build connection between families—creating new opportunities for children to play with each other, and for parents to find community to share experiences and improve their children’s lives.

THE WORK–AT–HOME DAD Mike / Age 37 has a 6–year–old son and a 8–year–old son He works at home so he always stays at home. However, because of work, ha has less time to play with his kids and he feels guilty. Due to his limited time, he is looking for some functional and interactive toys for him to play with his kids so that he can have a great time with them. He also wants to find some interesting places or events where he can bring his kids to explore and to get new experiences because he wants to compensate for his lack of accompanying them.

IDEAL COMPANY

THE PARENTOCRATS Penny / Age 38 Has a 9–year–old daughter She is an upper class woman who is often obsessive but acts out of love to assure her kids’ security and happiness because they are her most important projects. She actively participates in their lives. She is always searching for the best camps and activities: they must be functional yet innovative. She often competes with her neighbors about their children’s performances in school because she believes that with her direction her children can surpass other children.

THE SINGLE MOM Cathy / Age 35 Has a 10–year–old daughter She has two jobs in order to earn enough money because she is raising her kid primarily alone. She has less time to spend with her kid, and she oftentimes faces some difficult choices such as choosing between attending her child’s talent show or being on time at work. She wants her child to have possitive challenges, and she values her children’s education and learning. However, she doesn’t understand her daughter very much, so she is not good at choosing toys or children’s books that would be suitable for her child.

Identity

THE ENFANT TERRIBLE Joyce / Age 5 She loves to play with her neighbor Kathy because Kathy has a lot of toys. She asks her parents to buy everything Kathy has. “Mom, Kathy has a beauty doll. I want that, too!” She tends to throw a tantrum if her parents do not buy the toys she wants especially in the toy stores. She likes things with vivid colors so she always points to those colorful toys and asks her parents to buy for her. However, her parents want to know more about the toys not only by the package because Joyce usually gets tired and bored with the toys after playing with those several times. Sometimes they don’t know how to choose suitable presents for Joyce because seems like she wants everything her friends have.

THE CURIOUS BABY Tom / Age 7 First grade student Being faced with this magical world, every day he has many questions to ask. Why? Why is that? However, most of the time he can’t get the answers, because his parents are too busy and have no time to answer his questions. In school, he also always asks questions in class and feels excited about learning new knowledge. He feels lonely at home, so he always talks to himself and plays with himself. Therefore, he wants something interesting that can inspire him and he also wants to make new friends whom he can play with.

IDEAL COMPANY

THE STRESSED–OUT CHILD Derek / Age 8 Second grade student He goes to an after school program everyday even though he is only 8 years old because his parents want him to perform well in school. On the weekend, he doesn’t go out to have fun with friends but stays at home studying or playing alone instead. His parents want him to get good grades in school and raise him in a certain way that restricts his interests and freedom because they think they are helping him to be a good person. They have certain expectations for him because they believe those accomplishments can bring a better life for him. Derek feels lonely because he spends most of his time taking extracurricular classes or studying. He wants to has his own interests such as playing video games because it could relieve his stress.
