Branding-
Layout-
The mast head on this contents page for NME magazine features the magazines logo across the top with the words ‘this week’ written in bold capital letters. The design of the ‘NME’ logo had been transferred form the magazine front cover for familiarity and branding reasons. The issue date is also stated
The layout of the contents page is simple and easy to navigate. Boxes are used for easier reading and simple fonts and colours are used to keep the styles stylish. The basic layout helps the audience. The target audience for NME is often younger. Therefore the layout should be simple to keep the reader entertained. If the layout was too complicated, the reader may become uninterested and is likely to flick past the page.
Band index columnThis is a typical convention for NME magazine. This is a common feature n contents pages in other magazines to give a simple list of what to expect. The text size used is one of the smallest on the pages. This could show the importance and shows that the main Kasabian feature is more important due to it being larger.
Magazine featuresThe contents page features sub titles such as ‘news’, ‘radar’ and ‘reviews’ etc. these are typical conventions of NME magazine. They provide extra information for the readers. The subtitles are in bold and larger than other area of the contents page to stand out and again, to make it easier for the reader to navigate.
Main imageThe main image is of Kasabian, the main subject for the magazines issue. It’s a long shot image of the main in action which would be likely to be different to the main cover image and images used in other places in the magazine to bring variety. It’s also a way to invite the readers in to the magazine because the pictures would be new every time and are therefore unexpected.
Language-
ShapesArrows are used to bring variety to the eye and is used in black and red to help the reader navigate around the contents page and throughout the magazine; also used to break the text up.
The language used is relatively simple and is all within the same context. The title ‘Kasabian got romantic in a church’ I used as an eye catcher due to the context. A church may not be a likely location for Kasabian to perform, therefore provoking interest.
Subscription boxThis is a typical convention for magazines; used to encourage people to subscribe to the magazine and get more readers. Small thumbnails of other NME magazine fronts covers have been used to show previous or feature magazine. The box is black and stands out from the page as it’s an important feature.
