Branding-
Image of front cover-
There are multiple examples of branding used on the contents page. For example the use of the ‘Q’ mast head begin transferred from the front cover to reinforce the brand. Its placed in the top right had corner and takes up the majority of the top section.
A screen shot image of the front cover has been placed in the right hand corner as a special feature. The screen shot helps to draw in the audience and make to issue more special because it’s all about the Foo Fighters.
Main imageThe main image is a long, full body shot of Dave Grohl, the lead singer of the Foo Fighters, the main subject of the issue. It’s completely different from the head shot of him used on the front cover of the magazine. This helps to add variety and encourages the reader to look into the magazine if a different image has been used. The use of the guitar that he is carrying helps to indicate the type of musician of band that he is a part of and gives a hint as to what to expect.
Article listA typical convention for music magazines and ‘Q’ magazine in particular is for the list of articles to be placed on the left hand side. The different features are listed in bold black numbers with bold black text written adjacent to them. There are bold red lines separating each feature to add some variation to the page and make it look more interesting.
Extra imagesA selections of shots from inside the magazine have been arranged on the right hand side to give a hint of what to expect. It helps to entice the reader with interesting article hints. This is a typical convention of music magazines. On the left side there is an extra image of the Foo Fighters to again give hints to the audience. This is again a different one used to the front cover and the main image on the contents page.
LanguageThe language used it simple and straight to the point. It’s purely about music and skips out on any information that would be redundant to the target audience of the magazine. Other bands and artists that are mentioned are from a range of genres that would fit in with the magazines genre.
Colour theme-
Conventions-
The colour theme fits in the typical ‘Q’ theme of red, black and white. All of the images used have either props or clothing that’s are red or black. The text used is also fitting with the theme.
