Single Family Home Remodel
Single Family Home Remodel A family is looking to remodel the first level of their split family home. The kitchen is the main priority, it is desired that the kitchen under goes the largest change. In order to maximize the space this split-level home can provide, an open-concept layout is applied: Taking down the walls separating the kitchen from the rest of the home opens up the floorplan allowing for flow between all rooms and clear sight lines. Moving the kitchen casework to when the dining are originally was allows room for a large island to be added. This still allows room for a breakfast table to be placed as well. Before there were two sitting areas; one will be converted to the new dining room. This allows for a much large table to be placed. Due to the walls being removed, storage space as lost; the new kitchen casework will continue from the kitchen into the new dining area to allow for ample storage. The back Living Room will now be the only sitting room. To maximize the capabilities of this area, seating will be places to allow for easy conversation between the individuals using the space. A new built-in feature will also be added to allow for storage as well as a focal point A new desk and bookcase will complete the changes to this area.

The Means House
The Means House A historic house of the United States of America, the structure still stands in Stroudwater, Maine. Construction Documents are adapted from HABS documents in an attempt to return the house to it’s original design. It was originally erected in 1797 by Capt. James Means. Due to different sizing of the walls, it seems although the structure was built in two parts; the right side may have been build first and later on the rest of the residence was erected. The identified styoe of the Means House is Georgian: Influenced mostly by Palladianism, Georgian is not its own style exactly, it is an era that witnessed the evolution in both architecture and interior design. It is mainly recognized by extreme detail. Cornices, dados, mantels, headers and footers, casing, and many more have more elaborate and intricate design elements to them. The style developed more over time, but the main characteristics that define it remain the same.

Zenas Resturant
Zenas Zenas, the restaurant located in downtown Kent Ohio’s Hotel and Conference Center, was not getting much business. The believed reason for this, deduced by the design students of Kent State University, was that the resturant lacked it’s own personal identity as well as lack of privacy. The objective was to redesign the space in hopes of attracting more customers. The main goal was to create a more private setting for the customers; from the guests of the hotel as well as providing more intamacy for the resturants’ guests. The original space was very open, not just within the restaurant itself, but to the whole hotel. It was asked that the bar was not be touched and that the exterior walls were not modified in any way shape or form.

The library at Kent State University’s Salem branch has become outdated and because of this it was not being used to its’ maximum potential. Due to the changes in technology and the study habits used by students today, many various updates were needed for this library. Main aspects of these updates included creating more mobile seating, both individual and group, charging stations, computers and refreshments.

Kent State University International Market 26
KSU International Market International students make up a substantial portion of any campus’ student body. Far away from home and their native land, the international students of Kent State should feel as comfortable and welcome as possible. This will allow them to foucs more on what the campus has to offer as well as making to most from the amazing experience of studing abroad. The market wouldn’t just support the unternation students, it would also allow for the whole student body to interact and learn from one another. An international market located on Kent State University’s main campus will provide a space for students to connect with one another, provide them the opportunity to learn about other cultures and experience foods from them. The main focus for the market itself will be fruits, but other foods from various countries will be provided as well. Students will also be provided a kitchen to teach eachother their native foods and recipes, allowing for more bonding as well as a great and fun learning experience.

This is a design for two floors, for the none existing, Brecksville Community Hospital located in Brecksville, Ohio. The Programming for this space includes a NICU and Infant Surgical Units on the first floor and a labor and Delivery and Genetic Testing units on the second floor. Using Reprieve as the concept and the rainforest as the inspiration, five different experiences were derived: understory/nest, light, suspension, rain and canopy. Reprieve: A long awaited relief from a testing situation. A moment of release from a challenging condition. Through nodes of reprieve a sense of whole and balance can be sustained. A hierarchy of community exposure and bonding can strengthen then whole of the being. In times of struggle and also renewal a reprieve can achieve a support system that strengthens the community. This gateway welcomes the troubled, and is receiving to the blissful who are experiencing joy. A reprieve gives a state of suspension, of pausing time and just being.

Concept
Design Intent
Washing away worry and clearing the way for a new path to be made. A steady rhythm is created as the rain falls, like that of a lullaby. Calming and relaxing sounds, setting those who hear it at ease. When the song ends, a rainbow appears, a bright new path to follow.
A new life has been brought into the world, but now that life must be protected and given its’ best chance. Many individuals will watch over the infant, including the staff and its’ family. These individuals need space to interact but not be in one another’s others way. An open floor plan serves this need best. Hight amounts of light is not good for a newborn, there- fore multiple layers of light are applied so that lighting can be easily controlled for the different functions in the room. The colors in the NICU are cooler and the materials are non-reflective to keep unwanted light from bouncing around the room.

Recreation & Wellness Center 40
Recreation & Wellness Center of the Dream Neighborhood A full renovation of Cleveland’s Dream Neighborhood was already taking place. A strong desire to keep the current residences in the area as well as to draw new individuals in, that is the driving force for this project. The area was lacking in attractions, among other things, for the residents; therefore a recreation and wellness center is proposed to help draw people in and to increase the desirability of the neighborhood. What will attract people to this facility? The objective of this recreation and wellness people is to have aspects that will bring invividials to it. The concept of a blossom was applied, the recreation and wellness center focusing of how a blossom attracts.. It is a symbol of beauty, revitalivaton. Attracting all beings to it. Has a tough exterior, providing protection. Yet the inside holds a hidden beauty. A blossom is self-sustinaing, and capable of keeping its own life going through the years.
