This recipe book is meant to be enjoyed, so relax and use your favorite pen. These pages don’t have to be perfect, however if you do desire quality and consistency, I recommend using a black archival ink pen. I prefer Micron pens. I carefully selected the cover material so that it could happily live on your kitchen counter; it is easily wipeable in the event something lands on it while cooking. The pages, however, are not wipeable. They can and will reveal which recipes you make the most by the splatters and wear they show over time. I consider this the mark of a truly remarkable recipe! In fact, please email it to me so I can try it!

Each blank recipe page is self explanatory and includes the space you need to document the steps for making each dish. The memories/notes section is additional space for remembering the moments you’ve enjoyed while making these meals. This is also a place where you can record the dates you made the recipes and also mention any dishes or drinks that paired well with them. The spiral binding of this book allows you to remove any pages you don’t want to use, or that perhaps you make a mistake on while writing. If you do remove pages, I recommend that you do so with the careful use of scissors rather than tearing out pages by hand. You’ll find 20 additional recipe cards on perforated pages in the back of the book. Again, I would suggest removing these with the use of scissors instead of tearing them out. When you are ready to use the cards, fold the paper on the perforated lines before cutting, and then store them in the plastic sleeves.
Your family’s delicious and meaningful meals deserve to be remembered. Around Our Table gives you space to organize and preserve your recipes, as well as the memories created while making and sharing them.
There is also a pocket in the back to hold any cherished handwritten recipes that may have been passed down from relatives, photos from time spent in the kitchen, favorite recipes cut out of magazines, and so forth. The plastic sleeves are meant to help with organizing these items as well. At the beginning of each section, you’ll find a recipe index where you can organize your collection. When you write down a new recipe, add the coordinating page number to the index so you can easily locate it later. Additionally, use the terms “sleeve” or “pocket” if the recipe is located elsewhere in the book.
