Prologue The students of Primary Public School Of Potamia welcome you on their journey to the fascinaTng world of children’s book! “Let’s Play Book” is an electronic annual issue that includes reading animaTons, as part of sociocultural animaTon and an a_empt for the children to comprehend, interpret and widen their experiences through a book. The enTre learning experience of students is based and focused on a picture book, different every Tme, derived from the real needs of the group whether they are learning, emoTonal or social. Our projects have derived from the lives, reflecTons and confessions of the children in our classroom. That’s why our experiences through reading animaTons are strong and liberaTng!
Being able to build strong relaTonships among students, respecTng each other, cooperaTng, exploiTng empathy, helping students express their feelings and emoTons, building confidence and self-‐esteem, respecTng the environment, and becoming responsible global ciTzens are some of the basic aims of my teaching approach. The reading animaTon projects are presented in our blog letsplaybook.blogspot.com “Let’s Play Book” so far has won three disTncTons at naTonal level: 1. Gold Award in the "Innova@on in Teaching" category from the Educa@on Business Awards 2017 2. Prize 2018 in a school form issue category from the Greek Department of IBBY
3. Silver Award in the "Best Learning Experience” category from Educa@on Leaders Awards 2018. 4. Silver Award in the "Best Learning Experience” category from Educa@on Leaders Awards 2019. Together Thodoris Papaioannou Illustrator Iris Samartzi Ikaros Publica@ons
Two beloved beetles will accompany us on the journey of
learning and fun during this new school year! Han and Me!. The heroes of the book, created by Thodoris Papaioannouand Iris Samartzi, emerge from the pages of the book "Together” in order to support the kids' adjusTng to the new school environment. The friendship between the two beetles will inspire us and also help us to establish a certain schedule and an everyday rouTne in order to regulate the relaTonships developed among the students.
We turn ourselves into beetles living in the same garden with
Han and Mel. We build the maque_e model of the garden and we use it as a daily sign in rouTne.
We establish some relaTonships….
rules
in order to regulate our
...our daily calendar...
We create cards for the four seasons of the year...
...emoTon cards in order to express our feelings and emoTons...
We make a special corner where we can all go every Tme we
need to discuss our complaints with our friends by having a proper polite dialogue and eventually become good friends again!
Thodoris Papaioannou not only give us the "Together-‐ poem”, which by reading it every morning, we will iniTate our every day with posiTvity…
…but he also visits us in our school!!!
Elli’s Sea Antonis Papatheodoulou Illustrator Iris Samartzi Papadopoulos Publica@ons
We've had the fortune of gaining a great experience, one of
those that help you realise that it's a privilege to be a preschool teacher and life inside classroom can turn into a real adventure, if you let he children guide you! Antonis Papatheodoulou and Iris Samartzi give us the gif of traveling in "Elli's Sea” A journey for the great big things happen on those li_le heads. A journey for children's feelings and concerns… A unique adventure!
We experience also Captain Nick’s and Elli’s adventures…
The two heroes of the book, Captain Nick and Elli, are turned
into figurines and they share their adventures with us, but at the same Tme our owns...
We play a lot of games on Elli’s wavy hair, on Elli’s wavy sea…
…..funny games…
Â
Captain Nick is sailing his boat on our own hair, experiencing our own adventures…
…also on Antonis’s and Iris’ hair!
What makes a great impression on children is how Iris places objects in an illustraTon.So we choose various objects from our class and provoke her to place them in a picture!
Our kindergarten illustrated by Iris Samartzi!!! In winter version…

The prince and the three fates Evi Papadopoulou Vassilis Chrissikopoulos illustrator Farida el Gazzar Mar@s Publica@ons
The love of one of our classmatesfor the ancient EgypTan
civilizaTon is the reason to find a folktale of ancient EgypTan literature and travel to Ancient Egypt in our own way! "The prince and the there fates” in free translaTon of the original hieroglyph by Evi Papadopoulou and Vassilis Chrissikopoulos with the atmospheric illustraTon of Farida El Gazzar will be the guide to this adventure! This folktale dates back to the 13th century BC, at the beginning of the 19th Pharaonic Dynasty of Pharaoh Ramses II (1279-‐1213 BC) and is partly preserved in a papyrus kept in the BriTsh Museum, in papyrus EA 10060, also known as Harris 500. Children's interest in ancient EgypTan culture is great, as is their enthusiasm for this parTcular fairytale!
We transform our class into an ancient EgypTan scenery….
Â
Â
We become archaeologists and discover valuable treasures in the excavaTon ...
We play ancient EgypTan games ...
We make EgypTan costumes ...
We contact the Department of Ancient Egypt and Sudan of
BriTsh Museum with DR E.R. O'Connell and ask him to send us pictures of the exhibit. He assists with our enquiry concerning papyrus Harris 500 and he sends us the record!!!! We are so thankful!!!
The Giving LIbrary Antonis Papatheodoulou Dikaios Chatziplis illustrator Myrto Delivoria Patakis Publica@ons
Sophocles picks a book from the lending library. Inside he
discovers teddy bears, acrobats, knights, emoTons, travels, knowledge, imaginaTon, games… But the Tme comes to return it.He can't even keep his favourite page. He must return THE WHOLE book! But the librarian only asks for the book itself. The friends he made, the things he learned, his travels, the swords, the chests, the joy, the words, all these and many more belong to him! "But then you are not a lending library..." Sophocles said. "You are a GIVING Library!" Our school library is also a giving one! Every library is a giving one! Along with a book a child makes plenty of new friends, his imaginaTon is awaken and many feelings come up from the pages. And all these can be kept forever in a child's heart and mind! "The Giving Library”by Antonis Papatheodoulou and Dikaios Chatziplis illustrated by Myrto Delivoria sTmulates our new project! A project so familiar to us, because the world we have created inside our classroom is made from books!
publicaTon
We start our own company called ducklingpublica@ons.gr. We write and illustrate many stories...
We build our own giving library…Through the windows all
our favourite heroes of the books we've read Tll know are waving at us...
..inside the giving library we hide all the treasures we have found in every book!
Small surprises are made by the kids to be hidden inside the
lending books…
We meet Sophocles new friends….
We are very curious what's the new book borrowed by Sophocles at the end of the story... Who the heroes of the book are? What adventures do they experience? What about their feelings? The only way to find out is to write the story by our owns, to create not an ordinary book, but a very special and unique one!
We craf our own Giving Kindergarten!
Favourite heroes from favourite books are ready to enter our giving kindergarten, holding in their hands books that present everything we gain in our kindergarten
... friends....games… love.... feelings.... books.... supporTng
and helping each other.... discussing our complaints with our friends by having a proper polite dialogue… everything in our heart and in our mind!
In our heart and in our mind Dikaios Chatziplis!
Achilles’ most important victory Ioanna Babeta illustrator Thenda Mimilaki Metaixmio Publica@ons
When playing games, many children take great pleasure in
their victory and in others defeat. Everyone who plays games with children quickly learns a first lesson: how important is for them to win. They don't want to win; they need to win. Winning, by whatever means, evokes in young children a feeling of pride. Some of our classmates are members of the football team of our village, K8. But they do not ofen enjoy the joy of victory. They don't feel very happy about this situaTon. The feeling of failure sTmulates a project about how important it is to be a member of a team, to fight with dignity, enjoying the joy of the game no ma_er its outcome. The value of friendship and the value of "we” is the most important ba_le we have already won!
read
For this reason we the book "Achilles' most important victory” wri_en by Ioanna Babeta and illustrated by Thenda Mimilaki. Achilles has always been used to win in whatever he does. But he has no friends. When the 8me comes to experience for the first 8me his greatest defeat, he will eventually win the most important victory of his life. He will gain a friend. The story of Achilles moTvates us and definitely sTmulates us to realize how many things we have already gained from our friendship inside the classroom and how many have already our classmates have won by being members of K8! How many things we have won by being a TEAM!
This project represents the realizaTon of our path from “EGO” to “WE”…
...a path we have been able to build through words (“we”,
“love”, “friends” and “together”)…
Â
...through games...
Â
Â
Â
Â
....and emo@ons...
Â
And one day Ioanna Babata gives us the most important gif!
Â
Epilogue With the hope that the books we read and play will become our tomorrow's world, will become the first steps for paths we have not yet imagined, our journey into the world of the children's book is ending. We would like to express our deep graTtude to authors and illustrators, who without hesitaTon have played book with us! My students, my li_le heroes, deserve my sincere graTtude for the great adventures we experience together everyday! Xanthopoulou Vicky Preschool Teacher Sociocultural Animator
