PRESIDENT & ELIMINATE PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Hey Key Clubbers! I hope you are all doing well and that you’re attending some of the gazillion projects we’ve posted the past two weeks. I just want to say a few things: one being that I’m extremely proud of my committee chair members for turning in their projects on a timely manner and no difficulties at all. Two being that I’m proud of all you general members out there as well for taking the initiative to sign up for projects to help out your school and community! I’m also really proud of my officers for doing their job well and thoroughly. Each

and every one of you makes my job as President easier and it’s already been such an honor to be the President of this tremendous club. Don’t ever be afraid to say hello to me or ask me anything! I’m always open for anyone to talk to. Also, good luck to everybody who’s taking AP Exams. Remember to sleep early and eat a healthy breakfast! I love you all and keep caring! Yours in Caring, Love, and Service, Valerie Wong EHTHS Key Club President

THE ELIMINATE PROJECT The ELIMINATE Project is Kiwanis International's global campaign to help eliminate maternal/neonatal tetanus from the face of the Earth The fundraising campaign will raise one-hundred-ten million for the project. One baby dies every nine minutes from maternal/neonatal tetanus. A total of about one-hundred-sixty babies die from the disease everyday. The disease can be eliminated; in fact it has already been eliminated from of 20 countries. All it takes to eliminate the tetanus is three doses of a vaccine that costs sixty cents a piece. One dollar and eighty cents protects one mother and her children from dying due to this tetanus. The ELIMINATE project has already saved and protected sixty-one million moms and their babies and the goal is to reach less than one baby born with maternal/neonatal tetanus per one thousand births.

The Art Show Experience

Major Emphasis (ME) Committee Chairs Josh Perez (left) and Shenelle Alexander (right) setting up the art show in the Shore Mall.

This past Saturday, there was an amazing art show at the Shore Mall. It made me wish that I had some artistic ability. The artwork was from people of all ages; from five year olds in kindergarten to college freshmen. All of the artwork there was very impressive. There were even some paintings that were from people in our school; even from our very own Key Club! Anyway, I got a chance to help set up the art show and run it for a while. I got to meet some of the artists in person and discuss their paintings with them. I also gained some artistic appreciation from this project. It turns out that, to my surprise, there is a lot more than meets the eye when deciphering a painting. One has to really have an open

March for Babies It’s that time of the year again! The Annual March of Dimes (March for Babies) Walk is just around the corner! On Sunday, April 28th, a mix of volunteers, supporters and affected parents will walk a five mile walk starting from one end of the Ocean City Boardwalk and end at the other end to help fundraise and support premature babies. Each walker registers online and starts fundraising in order to help con-

mind to understand a painting else you may miss the artist’s intention entirely! It’s like reading a poem. You can’t always take the words literally but take them figuratively and you should be able to comprehend it. It’s always a good thing to be openminded and to see things from a different point of view. I’ve learned that things may not be what they seem so take a second look but with an open mind. Paintings are like labyrinths of brush strokes; used to hide the true meaning of the picture. Even thought this may have seemed like any other project to gain hours , I gained a whole new perspective for art! 

EVENTS

Prom Fashion Show Hey guys! This weekend is Kathleen's Closet Fashion Show! Just to start off, I can't even explain how excited I am considering this is my first fashion show and first time modeling. I've always wanted to walk in a long, beautiful dress and impress a crowd ever since I was a little girl. I remember watching models on television and wishing one day I could do it as well. And here's my chance! The best part is, is that it's a charity event for modeling donated prom dresses. We’re modeling the dresses so that people who like them can purchase them. All proceeds go to the food bank! So not only am I getting to finally have a chance to model, it's

also for a great cause as well! I'm really looking forward to strutting the runway with a few of my close friends, and I know they’re excited too! I'll be modeling two dresses that day, one brown and one red. Two very lovely dresses that were donated to Kathleen's Closet. The show is on Saturday, April 28th at 1:30. Hope to see you guys there! Wish me luck!  Volley-Ball-A-Thon (VBAT) Committee Chair Jessica Pamfilo (left) and general member Abby Sales (right) try on the donated prom dresses before the fashion show.

ACUA Earth Day Festival BY CYNTHIA THURAIRAJAH Recording Secretary

Through rain and shine, Key Clubbers are there to help! On April 22, Key Clubbers went to the ACUA Earth day festival. Although it was rainy and a bit cold, the recycling plant had a ton of people who enjoyed different tents to learn about the environment. Key Clubbers helped Big Brothers Big Sisters fundraise by setting pins up for bowling. And collected donations. Children of all ages donated money to the cause and bowled on the wooden alley under the

tent. Even non-Key Clubbers joined and helped the kids who couldn’t pick up the ball roll the ball down the lane. It was great getting to watch the kids’ faces light up when they knocked the pins down and getting a Frisbee as a prize. Throughout the event, we each took turns going around the festival to learn about the environment and how we can help. Even though there was rain, regardless, it was an amazing day at the ACUA environmental park! 

Side Note: Big Brothers Big Sisters is an non-profit organization that focuses on helping unprivileged children finding teachers or mentors to help them reach their fullest potential. Membership Committee Chairs Shirley Luo (top right) Jasmine Lee (top left) as well as Recording Secretary Cynthia Thurairajah (bottom right) and general member Mel Henao (bottom left) volunteer for the Big Brothers Big Sisters bowling fundraiser.

BEYOND THE EHTHS KEY INTERNATIONAL/DISTRICT

KEY CLUB’S 69th ANNUAL ICON 2012 BY PAK CHAU Bulletin Editor

Summer is quickly approaching and so is Key Club International’s 69th Annual International Convention. Every year, over two thousand Key Clubbers gather somewhere to find out more about Key Club, to meet the International Board from all over the world, and to meet new friends from the other side of the world! This year’s Key Club International Convention is going to being hosted at the famous Hilton Hotel in Orlando, Florida. Other than being able to live in an extravagant hotel for four days, Key Clubbers also get the privilege of exploring the Walt Disney World amusement parks with other Key Clubbers from around the world! This year, there are members going to the Key Club International Convention in Orlando, Florida. Some of the members include EHTHS Key Club President Valerie Wong, EHTHS Key Club Vice President) Parth Parikh, Division 1b Lieutenant Governor Kelly Tran, and Former Division 1 Lieutenant Governor Cecelia Kang! If you are interested or would also like to go, please notify an officers as soon as possible so that paperwork can be completed. 

International Board

BY PAK CHAU Bulletin Editor

Believe it or not, there’s a lot of positions in Key Club that are far higher than our President Valerie Wong. In fact, the Key Club President is under the Lieutenant Governor of his or her division in this case Division 1B’s Kelly Tran. The Lieutenant Governors of all twenty-three divisions serve the District Governor which rules over the states in which he or she presides in; in our case, the District Governor is Nicole Ventrone. It doesn’t stop there; the District Governors are then ruled by International Trustees whom watch over regions of the world, ours being Nick DePorzio. Finally, International Trustees serve the almighty Key Club International President and Vice President Annie Lewandowski and Catt Lovins. 
