Since I was a child I always wanted to wear something of my mother's on my wedding. I chose to wear the gharara she wore on her own Nikkah. Kamiar Rokni, a close friend and an amazing designer, was able to revamp her gharara and dupatta, pairing it with a new intricately embroidered kameez. The beautiful traditional jewellery was given to me by my inlaws to which I added my mother's suth laraa. My sister, Muneeze did my make up for this event, giving me a soft, perfect day look!

Being a bride is possibly one of the most difficult processes one goes through! We plan our wedding day and what we will wear years before the actual wedding. Meticulous planning goes into each look from the colour combinations and embellishment of the outfits to the jewellery, hair and makeup. Here we feature some of our favourite brides and show you what they wore to their special days. Find out what they have to say!

I had a combined Rukhsati and Mehndi so this was my only chance to be a full on bride! Khadijah Shah of Elan literally made my dreams come true with the masterpiece she designed for me! I wanted something in pastels and completely unique. The shirt was a beautiful, heavily embellished piece of art and was perfectly complimented by a plain banarsi gharara and a lightly worked tissue dupatta. My diamond and emeralds matched perfectly with the outfit. My makeup was done by the amazing Amina Raja - I trusted her 100% and she did a fantastic job!

My mother-in-law designed my Valima outfit, a champagne gold jora with accents of hot pink and purple. Under the label Gunga Jamni she makes the most beautiful farshi ghararas among other traditional ethnic wear. I instantly fell in love with the subtle elegance of this outfit, the kamdaani filled shirt and the beautiful fall of the gharara. All three pieces had beautiful, heavily worked borders which she had collected from India, Nepal and Pakistan. She really put her heart and soul into designing this jora making it all the more special.

Travelling is great fun! You get to explore a new place, meet new people and get wiser! We want to know more and will share with you exciting travel stories from a few special people in our section, planes, trains & automobiles! Where did you choose to go and why? My mother's entire family met up in Tuscany to celebrate my Khala's 50th birthday! Relatives flew in from Singapore, the US, Austria and Pakistan to party in style. We made day trips to Pisa, Sienna, Florence and Rome but kept sunny San Gigimano our home base. Who did you travel with? After two delayed flights, a chaotic scramble through Abu Dhabi airport and missing baggage issues, my cousin and I finally made it to Milan. My mother flew in an hour later on a different airline We were received by my Khala and her daughter, who had just arrived from JFK. The five of us then piled into our little rented car and puttered through the

winding roads of the Tuscan hills to arrive at our final destination - talk about a family that travels together, staying together.. Where did you stay? We rented out Villa Renaccio, twin villas in the hills of Tuscany, twenty minutes from the medieval town of San Gigimano. The cousins took over one, leaving the adults in the designated "Old Peoples Home". The villa had a beautiful pool, beautiful tennis courts, rolling hills and running vineyards. What are the best shopping spots there? As we know, Italy is famous for its amazing shopping and it

Tell us about the sights noone should miss out on: Though I had planned to just bum out by the pool for the week, we ended up traveling to nearby cities and seeing more than expected. The leaning tower of Pisa is definitely one to see, and if possible try making it to the top of the tower. Rome is definitely at the top of my list - it's hard to

Suggest places for a perfect night out Our days were so heavily packed that we would end up chilling by the pool and in the villa most nights. However, the Italians love to party! The streets of Rome were lined with fun bars, live music and fabulous restaurants. If you're looking for something more chill, walk through the well-lit town of San Gigimano or enjoy a late-night stroll through the hills of Tuscany.

travel diaries

Suggest some amazing restaurants there? Tuscany is known for its food! Though many nights we stayed in at the Villa, and enjoyed delicious meals cooked by my many aunts and uncles, we also had a chef come in a few times and cook some amazing meals. Beef Carpaccio, Fresh Buratta and pasta was on the menu for most nights. I have to admit though I was a little boring and blindly chose the thin-crust Mushroom pizza at most of the restaurants we went to. The pizza and pastas were all fine, but must mention the delicious award-winning gelato store I discovered in San Gigimano.

describe this city in a few words. The Colosseum, Pantheon, Roman Forum, Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps should definitely be on your list. The Duomo of Florence is a mustsee - the architecture is incredible. I would highly recommend making your way up the Bell Tower to get a beautiful view of the city. Definitely visit the Sienna Cathedral - the marble inlay, stain glass windows and beautiful altar pieces are worth the long queues.

travel diaries

definitely lives up to that reputation! No wonder the Italians are so stylish. The shopping at the designer outlets is to die for, and surprisingly, an amazing bargain. I avoided these high end boutiques though and instead wanted to peruse local boutiques cramped with local knick knacks and gorgeous leather items. The region is known for its beautiful pottery but despite falling in love a hundred times, I wasn't going to lug a giant vase back. My favourite though were the beautiful stationery shops.

You'd like to be focused on helping your family right now, but work demands are exhausting all of your energy. You never thought you'd be the kind of person who puts your career over your home life -- and you aren't, in general -- but this week you have to focus on a couple of crucial professional responsibilities. You will be able to get a lot done fairly early in the week, but you won't be out of the woods just yet. Use midweek to formulate some sort of organization to your time. Speaking of the woods: this weekend you're going to spend some time on an adventure of sorts.

You're feeling grounded this week -- a nice feeling after so much chaos in recent weeks. And, sure, there will be some more chaos to contend with this week (a power struggle with an annoying authority figure Tuesday or Wednesday, for example), but mostly you'll find the next seven days smooth sailing. Or, at least, calm waters. Toward the end of the week you're going to spend a lot of quality time with friends. And over the weekend, you're going to make a big purchase, but you're going to take your time with it. Might as well shop around, right?

Everything was going along just fine for a while, but on Monday and Tuesday, something has changed. You thought you had someone right by your side, but it turns out that they may have had a hidden agenda the whole time. What's going on? Why do people have to be so complicated? Take relief in the company of your own outstanding friends midweek and don't underestimate your ability to be persuasive and charming. Sometimes people just have to know what you want, so tell them by week's end. On Saturday and Sunday, someone just wants the opportunity to tell you how they feel.

On Monday, you're all set to head out the door -- you have your fishing pole, you have your boots, you have a hat on -- and then you decided maybe you weren't in the mood to go fishing after all. Ready, set, blah. It's perfectly understandable that you're going to be moody even on Tuesday and Wednesday, what with everything that's going on, and your best course of action is going to be to follow your heart at every point in the road. Why do something you're not up for? Stay at home whenever you want to this week. If you want to hibernate over the weekend, do so. This will all blow over.

When you walk into a room, all eyes are on you. There is a tremendous thrill in that, but there's also an amount of responsibility. All eyes are on you! And everyone's hanging on your every word! And there are those who are going to recognize your new-found popularity and feel pangs of jealousy -- so you'll have that to contend with, too. Ego clashes figure strongly on Tuesday and Wednesday, and expect the people around you to be behaving very emotionally toward the end of the week. So much drama! Thankfully, the weekend will be peaceful and rewarding.

All that hard work? It's finally paying off. You never thought Monday would be a banner day in the romance department, but you have people throwing bouquets of red roses at you left and right. And what's more, you're feeling your best physically, too. Toward the middle of the week, the sheer volume of stuff in your life is going to start to weigh on you. By the weekend, you're going to decide that maybe it's time to look into ways of reorganizing your things. So much clutter! How are you ever going to imagine a perfect future for yourself with you-knowwho, with all this stuff in the way?

This week, you would like to keeping everything in your life balanced. You like to have fun, but you also really enjoy working -- especially on Monday and Tuesday. People perceive you to be the kind of person who is really grounded and centered, and those are very appealing characteristics. By midweek, it's no surprise that you're the object of someone's affections -- either it will be the start of a new relationship or the reinvigoration of an ongoing one. Over the weekend, if you turn your attention a little towards the romance department, and get a little caught up in it, well, good for you. Why not?

You are a shrewd businessperson at the beginning of this week. That's not the role you usually like to play, but it's the role that's going to be handed to you, and you're going to do well at it. Tuesday or Wednesday, something's going to happen at home that demands immediate attention -- a spill, a break, a run-in with a neighbor -- but toward the end of the week you're going to get wrapped up in a romance that causes you to forget everything else. This weekend is going to be an obstacle course of sorts. Best advice? Be careful and proceed with caution. The sidewalks are icy!

Monday, you say what you mean and you mean what you say. Whatever else happens, at least that much is true. You are a straight shooter. You are a master at communication. And those skills are going to come in handy this week, especially on Wednesday, when an improbable conversation with a stranger is going to lead to a long and fairly eye-opening revelation about the size of the world and the variability of human experience. It sounds so big-minded, but it's exactly what you're going to think about until Friday. The weekend, however, will be all fun and games and blissful mindlessness.

Finally, at last, some of the glory that's been due to you is going to come your way Monday. You aren't the kind of person who demands recognition, but it's certainly nice to get some after you've been slaving away at something forever. On the heels of this success, a lot of people are going to try to hitch themselves to your star by midweek. Be sure you don't accommodate anyone who is going to slack off. You have the power to be selective now. You can choose whom you want with you in the next stage of things. You have your mind on the future over the weekend, and it's exciting.

People are funny. As the saying goes, you give them an inch, they take a mile. And what you're learning is, if you give them a mile, they flail around all day long not knowing what to do with themselves, especially on Monday and Tuesday. You're not too worried. On Wednesday, you are a force of inspiration among your friends, and you have the kind of radiance that turns heads at parties. The more people you meet by Friday and over the weekend, the more connections you'll make, and you'll be happier than you have been in a while.

You have friends in high places, and at the start of the week it's time to call on one of them for a favor. You don't ever take advantage of people, so you don't have to worry about it being taken the wrong way, even if they don't get back to you until midweek. Besides, all you want is for someone to put in a good word for you. In the meantime, you'll be busy helping out all your other friends. Use the weekend to spread the love around even further, and everyone is going to be happy. Including you. Especially you.
