Who is Momina Mustehsan? I’m a very simple no drama person. I’m not about the glamour or the fashion, honestly, I have zero fashion sense. Music doesn’t define the person I am or what I stand for. Describe yourself in three words. Spontaneous, respectful and crazy. What first drew you towards music? Everyone has some music in them. Everything in the world has a relationship with music. Some people are gifted with the talent so creativity is within you. I believe you should do something that’s always been with you. What is your background in music? I have absolutely no formal training in music. There was a talent show in my elementary school in which everyone had to showcase something and my choir teacher suggested that I sing. She convinced me to sing a song and so I did. Where do you derive your inspiration from? I derive it from myself and my own journey in life. Also, from other people’s journey as well. I’m a very observant person. A lot of times I don’t care about the ‘what’ I care about the ‘why’. What is it that you love to do? I love cooking, travelling and exploring the world.

in the spotlight with Momina Mustehsan

our digital media head, Nazish Sameer interviewed the beautiful music sensation momina mustehsan who gladly shared her thoughts and views for #paperazzi. What effect does music have on your being? What is your favourite childhood memory? It is an outlet for me. It makes me feel free. It lets me express I have so many. I have to thank my parents for that. My father always made sure that every time someone would talk myself. about a new country, he would take us there. So he really made us travel. He would encourage us to do our chores Who would you say is your mentor? My parents. They have guided me in every single thing. They and pay us for doing those. This way we were encouraged were the ones who made me explore everything including to work hard and take our own initiatives. music. They surprised me with a guitar once. My mom went to the extent of going to gigs with me and carry my guitar. What has been the proudest moment in 18

your career so far? I was very proud to see my parents be proud of me. Afreen broke all the records ever in Pakistani music history. That’s what really made me proud. Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now? Honestly, I don’t know. But I would want to see my self in a position where I’m not only recognized for superficial things. I hope in five years, I’m able to get some recognition for things that actually mean something to me and I’m able to influence the society in a positive way because we lack role models in this part of the world.

Message for #paperazzi fans: Whatever effort anybody makes, good or bad we need to applaud it and if we don’t do it we wont develop as a nation. Especially, for women we need to get out of houses and own ourselves. Everyone expects me to be perfect, im not perfect. My flaws make me unqiue and yours define you.

What is the one question that no one asks you but you would wish they’d ask you? I’d want people to ask me more about myself then just music. Music is just a small aspect of me. It doesn’t define me. Are you seriously engaged? The cat is out of the bag, yes I’m engaged! We actually wanted to know each other better without the pressure but someone leaked a picture which wasn’t supposed to be posted. Whats your favourite song? From coke studio my favourite song was ‘jhalay aa’. Its an underrated song. What initiatives have you taken to make your country a better place to live in? Im working on an educative initiative for educating young domestic helpers and kids in rural areas. It really irritates me how people in pakitsan treat people. The slogan for my campaign is parheingay tu barhaingey. Making a series of educational cds and workbooks that follow this. So in rural areas where there r no schools, there are mosques and the primary purpose was to reinstate ur faith. Im solely doing it myself and I’ll be having a few com[anise on board to.

What do you want the world to know about you? I’m an engineer and currently I’m building a solar panel powered vaccine transfer cooler that will help eradicate polio in Pakistan. 2016
