Hina and Natasha come together yet again to create magic in this beauty editorial where the extreme color contrasts in makeup and hair compliment the two contradicting designers used : Adnan Pardesy and Sania Maskatiya, to show that opposites truly attract ! UP CLOSE & PERSONAL WITH HOPSCOTCH What has been the motivation to launch your own brand? We have always struggled to find good quality, stylish clothes at a reasonable price point for our kids in Pakistan and with Hopscotch, we seek to address this gap. Our goal is to create clothes that we will be proud to have kids wear and an experience that will be enjoyable for our customers. We hope we have created something special Why did you choose the name Hopscotch? Hopscotch is a playground game that kids all over the world enjoy and have enjoyed for centuries. We fondly remember endless fun afternoons as children, hopping on the chalk drawn pattern with our friends and cousins. It was a time of joy, laughter and simplicity – all things we hope to capture in our brand. So, Hopscotch felt like an apt name! 48
PAPERAZZI MAGAZINE
2014
Do you think having children of your own led to your decision to want to work in area which involved children? Definitely! We had no real experience of a child’s needs and wants before we became parents and no understanding of what kids like. As parents, we are intimately aware of how every mother and father want the best for their kids and how proud they feel when their children achieve something or even when they wear something nice. In a small way, we wanted to be part of this process of love. What is the core philosophy behind Hopscotch? We are smitten parents of a 5 year old boy and a 1 year old girl and our kids have taught us to let go and cherish the simple things in life, the things that truly matter. I think we now enjoy picnics,
pillow fights and sprinkles on ice cream as much as our kids! Through Hopscotch, we want to pay homage to this vibrancy, playfulness, and wonder of childhood. How does Hopscotch stand distinguished from other kidswear brands in Pakistan? We have focused on creating a brand that we would love our kids to wear, a brand that focuses on quality at a reasonable price and on reminding every child that he or she is unique and a treasure. We don’t know if that differentiates us from other kidswear brands – we will let our customers decide.
How do you manage to strike a balance between professional and personal life? By being extremely organized and expert jugglers! At the core though, we are extremely conscious that raising our children is a privilege and the most important (and fulfilling) thing we can ever do. So we prioritize spending a lot of quality time with them. Tell us about a specific challenge you have faced during this project? There are day to day trials but there has been no specific challenge- the entire project has been really fun!
What is a typical day like for you both? Hectic! We send our son off to school, spend some time with our little girl, get dressed and have breakfast, head to work which as you can imagine, with a startup is often frantic. In the evening, we hang out with our kids (homework, playtime, dinner) and pack them off to bed around 8 pm. Post that, we relax a little, watch TV, maybe hang out with some friends or catch up on pending work. Phew!
Working with kids- fun or challenging? So much fun!
Tell us more about your cute Hopscotch Mascots. What do they represent? So our mascots are robins - little cheerful, hopping birds that spread joy. The younger one represents our baby line and the older one is for the baby’s older siblings and cousins, the1-5 year olds.
Rapid Fire: To be answered separately by Romana and Harris in two distinct voices:
Can you tell us something about your first collection? Our Spring/ Summer Collection ‘14 is about the symbols and motifs we all grow up with; polka dots and stripes, flowers and race cars, stars and pretty bows. The entire range is cheery and bright and plays with different prints and textures. Kudos to our design team for that! Our biggest challenge was to create something elegant and modern while also offering a brand that encompassed a few of a kid’s favourite – often, messy! - things. We hope we have created something universal and irresistible! What are some of the trends that are prominent in today’s kidswear? Kidswear is now taken very seriously, both by designers and parents. Kids are increasingly seen as little adults, with opinions and personalities of their own. Correspondingly, there is a move towards more fashionable, trendy clothes (with an urban aesthetic) while keeping the functionality and comfort of kids and their lifestyle in mind.
Are you planning on launch another store? Yes, we launch our second store in Defence Z block, Lahore by mid-April and hopefully more in the coming months. Are you retailing online? Our ecommerce website will go live by end April and will cater to both, local and international customers.

In the Spotlight Talal Haider talks to Paperazzi!
book, or just dancing in solitude, which means we want our consumers to consider the joy of drinking Fruitien juices a fun-filled activity of delight and joy.
How has the experience been so far of launching Fruitien juices? Well, so far, it’s been great! One of the things that I’ve learned is that if the product is good, you don’t have to be that great a marketer, you don’t have to carry off a lot of gimmicks — the product just speaks for itself. Half the battle, is just offering a good product in the first place that people actually need and appreciate. In the case of Fruitien juices, we are fortunate that people love to drink juices with good quality ingredients and they have given us a remarkable response so far. Is your product widely available now in terms of distribution across the whole country? We have made it available across all major cities and large towns and it will soon be available in most of the villages and smaller towns through our extensive network of distributors and retailers. Do you have any advice on a successful launch of a product? Just put all your efforts into making a fine product and then get as many people as you can on board to try it, once they absolutely love the product, then hone in on why they love the product. That will help you in getting the messaging right and the desired experience right. Once you’ve kind of narrowed down the thought and you’ve got love buzzing for your product, then just step on the accelerator with a big launch and then just watch the product play its role. What is the brand promise of Fruitien juices and how is it different from other juice players in the market? In the case of Fruitien, we have positioned it with ‘enjoy the good things in life’ and our ATL also highlights different situations, like enjoying a walk in the rain or reading a good 50
PAPERAZZI MAGAZINE
2014
But why do you think consumers would love the Fruitien range of juices? It starts with the value chain: you should know that we have been supplying fruit pulp to the juice industry in Pakistan and abroad, to a host of major and leading juice players including Nestle, Shezan and many others for over 25 years now. So we finally thought; why not directly share the fruit of our labour and the product of our passion with the people of Pakistan We started tinkering with an idea for our very own product. When we looked around the juice industry, a theme that we kept coming back to and found absent in most products was “where is the love?” For me, it’s basically just finding out what you are passionate about, who your target audience is, who will be consuming your product and why would would they actually love the product? And this gave us a good foundation to guide our business. Do you think our consumers know that juices consumption is good for them? In my opinion, we all love juices for their essential goodness and sweetness too. We all agree that fruits and vegetables or their juices are rich sources for health and vitality, which keep us healthy and charged for our daily routine. Juice consumption has remarkably increased in recent years, probably due to public awareness of juices as a healthy and natural source of nutrients, as well as increased public interest in health. I am glad that our average consumer now knows that juices have various benefits; they enrich them with minerals, vitamins, essential fatty acids, carbohydrates and proteins. People have found that once they make juice a daily part of their diet, it results in increased energy, a vibrant complexion, an improved immune system, stronger bones and a reduced risk of disease. No matter what your age, it is never too late to start drinking your fruits and vegetables. Juices can flush toxins from the body, are good for managing your weight, for your heart and blood circulation, not to mention overall well-being. Juices contain no saturated fats or added sodium and can be helpful in lowering cholesterol, and today’s consumers already know most of this. Can you please tell us something about Citropak and your past experience? Citropak is Pakistan’s largest producer and provider of various fruit concentrates, purees and specialized products. We commenced our operation with an extensive experience and technical knowledge inherited from Cargill’s Pakistani subsidiary. Anticipating tremendous growth in the juices and nectar industry of Pakistan, we started investing in improving our processes and production capabilities quite early. Ever since its creation, our company has played a significant role in the juice business in Pakistan, not only in providing a consistent supply of quality fruit pulps and concentrates, but also by engaging in continuous improvement in processes and supply chain optimization.

My mehndi outfit was by Lace and was very traditional but in an unconventional kind of way. I chose jade green and fushia pink as my two colours, with gota as the main embellishment. I have always felt that a bride should look very natural on her mehndi and hence I opted to do my own make up. It’s amazing how effective just a little bit of eyeliner and mascara can be. I opted for a voluminous lehnga with a cropped choli with two dupattas, one around my neck and the other on my head. I had a great time wearing the outfit.
Being a bride is possibly one of the most difficult processes one goes through! We plan our wedding day and what we will wear years before the actual wedding. Meticulous planning goes into each look from the colour combinations and embellishment of the outfits to the jewellery, hair and makeup. Here we feature some of our favourite brides and show you what they wore to their special days. Find out what they have to say!

My bridal look was very different as I opted for a steely grey. My mom and I designed it together and it was great being personally involved in the creation of my outfit. I wore a loose cropped choli paired with an organza lehnga with a banarsi jamawar layered skirt and pants underneath. It had lots of different embroideries and diamonte embellishment while the dupatta was a modern take on my mother’s bridal. For the jewellery I chose polki and an emerald rani haar. Aashi at Nabilas did my makeup with a light smokey eye and a bright candy-pink lip.

It was a very no fuss look because I chose not to cover my head. Natasha Khalid at Natasha Salon gave me a very soft natural look with a deep plum lip and volumized curls which went perfectly with my diamond and ruby set.

You’re an activator, an instigator, maybe even an agitator on Monday. Get stuff started! And — thank your lucky stars — you’re better than usual about following through around Tuesday and Wednesday. Add nice little details to your plans and convince a certain someone that your way’s the best way. Talk about lucky — if you’ve got love on your mind around Thursday (and you probably do), you’ve got a way with compliments and general wooing right on time. Just keep it sweet and light, and save the big questions and answers for later. This weekend brings pertinent emotional developments.
Approaching an issue with creativity gets much better results than going with the default option on Monday — it’s time well spent, not wasted. And while your best days for romance this week may be Tuesday and Wednesday (aren’t you charming!), your energy around Thursday isn’t too shabby either. Hint: Share how you’re feeling, but keep the plans short term. Let the heavy stuff take care of itself rather than getting ahead of you — all in good time! When the weekend comes, you just might have a revelation about how to handle a certain situation. Call it a gift from the stars.
You’re thinking so fast on Monday that you might really benefit from bouncing your ideas off somebody. Then, if information’s en route or a secret’s circulating around Tuesday and Wednesday, don’t get so caught up that you fail to look at things critically. Does it all add up? Is it worth getting all wound up about? Love’s in the air around Thursday. You can thank the stars later, as you ought to be busy making the most of your love interest through Friday (you’re still extra hot, and they know it). When the weekend comes, though, are you clinging to something or someone?
What happens when you’re even more emotional than usual? Find an outlet for it all, or you’ll find out the hard way on Monday. Kick your traditional side to the curb around Tuesday and Wednesday. Why? Because the more original you are in your thinking — and in what you choose to do — the better. Bonus: People will love it — and you. Around Thursday, be warned: Your efforts in the love department may go awry. The stars say to be very clear in conveying your feelings — or reschedule the romantic stuff for the weekend, when you’re hot stuff.

Fit in a little fun on Monday to get your week off to a good start — try lunch with a friend, a movie or an impromptu outing to somewhere new. Over the next couple of days, you’re likely to be entangled in work, and you may feel somewhat inflexible. Doing something to loosen up physically (yoga, anyone?) helps your whole being. And guess what? Your hopes and desires come into play around Thursday — and the stars favor a risk. Take a romantic idea and run with it! This weekend, if at first you don’t succeed, don’t just blindly try again: Heed your intuition about what to do next.
Those around you may drive you nuts on Monday, but could it be that you’re expecting too much of them? Around Tuesday and Wednesday, the stars send an opportunity your way, but you’ll need to do your part, too. Seek out inspiration, make your world an interesting place and embrace existence. If you’ve got love on your mind around Thursday, you’ll already have the good karma going to take advantage. Just choose your words (or your flowers) with your customary care. When the weekend comes, you’re the one to organize something that everyone loves. Put it together and get mad props!
Your usual diplomacy may go right out the window on Monday — and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. If saying what you mean and meaning what you say causes a ruckus, you can smooth it over around Tuesday and Wednesday. The benefits of laying it on the line can be long lasting. Around Thursday, here comes Cupid, and he isn’t stupid — expect (or create!) new developments in your love life now. How about sharing a deep feeling to get things going? When the weekend comes, though, you may want to keep to yourself. You’re cute when you’re shy.
You’re a bit accident-prone on Monday, so go slowly, be methodical, back your work up and keep track of your keys. You’re a force to be reckoned with around Tuesday and Wednesday — but can you acknowledge your sensitive side along with your strength? Forcefulness is fine if you can also see when to relent and when to be gentle. And while going out on a romantic limb may seem like the normal thing to do around Thursday, don’t get carried away. You’re far from normal (in a good way!), and your own timing and understanding of matters of the heart will be much better when the weekend comes.
