tured out to Brooklyn. So thanks to Alex and Nandita's heartfelt invite I made myself home at their lovely prospect heights brown stone a couple of weeks ago.

At times I am only sure about where I am taking off and where I am landing, but even the airline I have to think about. It is similar to the lives we all lead, we know we are born and we know we will die, yet it is what lies in between and the uncertainties of that which make our sojourn so interesting. We have our own Malala who was happily trout fishing in Swat and playing patty cake with her friends one day onto getting shot in the face the next to now being a global symbol and the youngest noble prize winner (you go girl!). We have Justus, an orphaned Rwandan who insisted on attending school as he fought off bigger kids for food in the garbage dump and is now enrolled into Harvard. We have Bilawal, and though my heart goes out to him for losing his mother yet I have no idea what trip he is on. As for my own vagabond ways, the last few weeks have yet again been a bit of a world wind. First on the card is Brooklyn, yes Brooklyn and not New York. Though many have ventured up to the Met on the Upper East Side, down to the World Trade Center in financial district, east to the Box in the Alphabet city and west to to Spotted Pig in the West Village yet few have ven60

While in Brooklyn be sure to check out BAM (Museum), and after you done checking out the art scene have some Haitian delights at La Caye. For some certified indie scene head to the Habana Outpost for some Cuban flavor and their very own taco stand. James down on Carlton Avenue is still the cutest place for brunch with the best bloody marry. Since Germany is all the rage these days be sure to hop over for some brews at Berlyn and Die Stammkneipe. Back on the continent I was able to head over to a city that has long beckoned me and one I have eluded so far and that is Prague. It does remain one of the most beautiful capitals of the world. Though the city that brought us the Unbearable Lightness of Being went through a tough time with the Soviets it still has pockets where you can close your eyes and imagine whirling away with one of the characters that hung around with Milan Kundera. Vzorkovna was one of those spots that I stumbled upon. It was set in a cellar with low ceilings, melting candles given a dancing light to the space and a bang singing ballads and a swaying crowd. If you end up in the city then go for a run along the rivers, cross the fabled Charles Bridge, think next to Kafka’s statue and let the Bohemian in you wander. Other than the jetting around it is also good to just sit at times, and I did that for a whole two and some hours for Interstellar. Indeed a great movie, it touches oneself in many ways, it was futuristic yet appropriate, it showed love yet not one that can be seen as real and its plays up all the conflicts we have within us. I would suggest you go and see it. Though I did get stuck in the elevator for an hour with 3 Greeks and a Croatian (story for another day) after watching the movie, it was still worth it. Back home the whole country is about to come to a standstill, no I’m not talking about PTI but the wedding season. As many of you start a new journey be sure to appreciate your new partner and remind them of that always, weddings can be a hectic time but be sure to have fun. Till next time

Ather ali Hafeez for Sana Safinaz Ather amalgamated a younger, bohemian spirit with Sana Safinaz’s refined vision, mixing bold prints with vivid colours. The result was a fun collection with fabulous styling and super accessories. We loved the vibrant energy of the live band.
SHEHLA CHATOOR AYESHA F HASHWANI Ayesha Hashwani’s collection was rich, opulent & romantic. We fell in love with his laser cut, cystal embellished cape and the statement kimono sleeved embroidered jackets.
Shehla Chatoor was a hot favourites on and off the runway. Her Japanese inspired Misaki collection comprised of eveningwear with eyecatching skirts, sexy cocktail dresses, opulent embroideries and silks. We liked that she added an edgy punch this time.

SANAM CHAUDHRI Sanam Chaudhri brought a very vintage eastern feel to the runway. We especially loved that her outfits were paired with khussas. This sari in particular left the audience mesmerised.
ADNAN PARDESY
Adnan Padresy was definitely one of our favourite collections because of it’s sheer originality and prints.
NIDA AZWER The Renaissance collection by Nida Azwer was stunning with rich prints paired with velvets. Nida was brave to show her most modern collection to date & it looked great!

MOHSIN ALI FOR SANA SAFINAZ We absolutely loved Mohsin Ali’s collection for Sana Safinaz. It was young, fun & quirky with lots of layering. The jackets were amazing- mixing feminine and masculine cuts. We loved the use of jewel tones fabrics and the scattered gems & bugs!
MAHEEN KARIM
Maheen Karim’s Ravissant collection was super sexy, combining glamour and sophistication. She showed why she is the go-to designer for eveningwear.
MAHEEN KHAN The show began with Maheen reading out her inspiration for the collection, ‘To Karachi with Love’. The collection was an ode to the fashionable women of Karachi in the sixties and seventies and to the city as it was then. A fantastic collection but one of the pioneers of the industry!

STANDOUT ACCESSORIES FARAZ MANAN
The Shanghai collection featured cropped tops, flared pants, tweed jackets (our favourite), embellished gowns and skirts. Faraz has truly upped his game and the collection (focused on the idea of separates) showed that a lot of hard work was put into it.
Ather Ali’s fringed ankle strap pumps.
Nida Azwer’s gold stud earrings.
Mohsin Ali’s jewel encrusted bags & bugs which would look divine as brooches.
Zaheer Abbas had the hippest hair on the runway.
The live band at the Ather Ali Hafeez for Sana Safinaz show was fantastic!
Omar Jamil a.k.a OJ a.k.a one half of the dream team that is Latitude CRS is hilarious!
best of fpw 2014 The two showstoppers Sikander Rizvi & Adnan Malik were a great choice by Deepak Perwani as they are definitely the hottest boys of Karachi!
Maheen Karim fools around on the red carpet. Gotta love people who don’t take themselves too seriously!
Madiha Raza
Madiha Raza wowed with her fantastic debut collection ‘Flight of Birds’ for the Maybelline Millennial New York Fashion 2014 segment. We loved the leather laser cutting and 3D textures combined with digital printing.
Here are highlights of all our favourite moments at FPW!
For Shehla Chatoor’s japanese inspired, Misaki collection, Nabila did the funkiest hair & makeup!
Backstage drama is always the juiciest!
After her finale that concluded FPW, Maheen Khan bid the runway farewell, announcing that while she will remain head of Gulabo, this would be her last show. How befitting then that Ex Super models Frieha Altaf & Atiya Khan stole the show as her showstoppers.
The fantastic music for Maheen Khan’s grand finale was compiled by model, actress and DJ Hira Tareen.

No fashion week is complete without selfies. We love this one with Bilal Lakhani, Misha Lakhani & Adnan a.k.a Bittu!

Sanam Chaudhri, the elected Chairperson of FPW, and Wardha Saleem, the elected CEO, are super sweet. We loved the welcoming atmosphere at FPW & the fact that the shows started on time. The council has truly upped their game & FPW could become the best platform in Pakistan for fashion!

Travelling is great fun! You get to explore a new place meet new people and get wiser! We want to know more and will share with you exciting travel stories from a few special people in our new section, planes, trains & automobiles! Tell us about your favourite or one of your favourite destination spots. Where did you choose to go and why? My obsession with all things wild has always pushed me to travel to destinations quite outside the box. Untouched by the curse of mainstream tourism, Botswana and Southern Africa immediately caught my keen, wandering eye. Soon enough this Pakistani girl was ready for her wild, African adventure! There is no doubt in my mind, that of all the thirty two countries I have been to in the last three years of this crazy adventure I call “life”, this safari-based trip holds an unparalleled place in my heart. Who did you travel with? Guided by a Professor with expertise in the region, 23 university students from Switzerland (including little, old me), travelled

through South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe; the main focus of our two week trip being the conservation and protection of wildlife species in the area. Every morning, at precisely 5 am we would go on game drives to observe lions, giraffes, elephants, and zebras; I was living the life of a Nat Geo journalist and I couldn’t help but feel so very #blessed! Where did you stay? From camping in tents to waking up to room service in 5-star hotels and lodges, I got the unique chance to experience the perks of “elite tourism” offered by Botswana. But it was in Zimbabwe, at the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge that I left a piece of my heart. Infamously titled as “one of the world’s 10 best kept secrets,” this luxurious hotel is the place to be! Guests enjoy a 10/10 view of nature’s finest; breakfast

Suggest some amazing restaurants there? From being offered a crocodile curry to actually tasting sautéed silkworm (which surprisingly tastes like one would expect actual silk to taste like…), my palette was put to the ultimate test. Fortunately, the local cuisine mostly included an array of barbequed meats galore, served at its best at the Boma Restaurant, also in Zimbabwe.
Suggest places for a perfect night out. Maybe a club, a local pub, and a restaurant that comes alive in the night, a concert or festival the destination is famous for. What can you do over there to relax and unwind? For me personally, the best way to let loose after a long day of playing “Dora The Explorer” was to go for a late swim in the hotel pool followed by dinner and drinks with my best mates at the Buffalo Bar. I even managed to make time for a spa day at the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge and enjoyed native-inspired treatments! Finally, any tips? One piece of advice: expect the unexpected. Prepare to get a gorgeous tan and experience the possible break down of your vehicle. Don’t forget to carry strong insect repellent, a pair of binoculars and a trusty camera. Fall in love with the kind heart of the locals and let them show you a piece of their world. In short, take a walk on the wild side! PS. Always carry cash.

Tell us about the sights no one should miss out on Unlike any of my prior vacations, this safari-based trip was unique in the sense that every new destination or person was a sight not to be missed. Putting my clear bias aside, I would recommend other travel junkies to take a magnafique canoe ride amidst wild lilies in the Oakavanga Delta in Botswana and also take a spectacular walk around the grand Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. The wildlife holds great appeal in itself and night-time safari drives through the

What is the best shopping spots there? Shopping in this area reminded me of the long drawn battle that we Pakistanis know far too well: the battle of bargain! It was of no surprise that most of my European friends had to be saved from a bad deal and that my rusty bargaining skills had to be exploited. What else is one to do when an exquisitely handcrafted, African commodity is on the line? Locals create the finest, wooden dishware, local musical instruments and tribal jewelry for tourists to fall madly in love with. Luckily, such vendors are accessible and are seen at almost every bus stop.
Khama Rhino Sanctuary with loved ones are a must! You could be on your honeymoon with your sweetheart or on a jam-packed family vacay; be assured that there is entertainment for all ages, shapes and sizes!

A big workout or a major house-cleaning is in order on Monday. You’ll not only feel better about yourself and your surroundings, but you’ll be able to clear your head, too. Then, something’s urgent around Tuesday and Wednesday; could it be in the love department? Making the first move wouldn’t hurt. While you’ve certainly got your own concerns from Thursday through the weekend, making the world brighter for those around you (your boss, a relative, a friend, even a random stranger) reflects a very lovely cosmic light back on you.
Take someone out to lunch on Monday — or have them over and make it for them. Keep it agenda-free and just talk; building bonds goes great now. You know you’re right around Tuesday and Wednesday, but getting adamant about it isn’t necessarily the way to sway people. Listen to their side (no, really!), and be ready to understand that there might be something to it. Common ground can be found. The rest of the week’s ripe for shaking things up, especially in your love life. Surprise someone, and surprise yourself, too.
On Monday, you’re not as social a creature as you usually are, and nesting at home might sound better than anything. Heed that natural instinct. You’re ready to make things happen again around Tuesday and Wednesday, when the process of going from a concept to reality is smoothed by the stars. Getting people to agree with you is favored now, too, so make plans while you can. From Thursday through most of Saturday, those connections aren’t as easy; you might even have to explain yourself a lot. The last of the weekend looks to be full of good feelings and the chance of romance!
If you have time off on Monday, make the most of it; if you don’t, consider taking some. Your energy’s so good … why waste it on work? Around Tuesday and Wednesday, you might leave that shell of yours so far behind that it’s a little outrageous. Kudos to you for putting yourself out there, but do also give a tiny bit of thought to what this might mean down the road. Those who think you’re hopelessly at the mercy of your emotions might be surprised by your objective standpoint and analytical abilities during the rest of the week. It’s a great time for a reality check.

Take it easy on Monday and give yourself time to think. Finding the source of your emotions is important now, whether they’re negative or positive. Then, around Tuesday and Wednesday, your inhibitions might just go out the window, and it just might be a marvelous thing. Why not do what you feel, say what you mean and make the most of life? You’re hot now! This ought to be out of your system by Thursday, and the rest of the week looks low-key. You’re working things through, professionally or personally, or even both. Good for you.
Getting organized for the week to come is a fine idea on Monday, but getting together with someone you care about would be even better. At least give a call and have a chat. Then, if you feel like you’re at a disadvantage around Tuesday and Wednesday, don’t freeze up or get outraged. How can you reshape your role in a positive way? Sort it out — and get on it. Anything’s possible with the great energy you’ve got from Thursday through most of Saturday. Snap things into place with ease. If you can’t decide on Sunda
Whatever big ambitions you have for Monday are likely to be foiled. Your mission: Make the best of it. Around Tuesday and Wednesday, taking action is much more favored, and others look to you to take the lead, whether in your professional or personal life. For best results, add an unusual element. Give it flair! Socializing’s favored from Thursday through the remainder of the week, as is sorting out an interpersonal issue. With your charm, diplomacy and ability to unearth the best in people, you may end up great friends with somebody you never thought of as a buddy.
Combining the emotional with the intellectual on Monday — letting yourself go after thinking it through — allows you to see a new angle. Around Tuesday and Wednesday, it’s tempting to let your reaction spill out, but a certain situation demands restraint. Life could be stressful now, so plan to handle it calmly instead of letting it get to you. Then, if you don’t have your agenda out in the open during the rest of the week, why would you expect that anyone else would? Consider leveling with someone important in your life. The results might surprise you.

Let your mood dictate your day on Monday as much as possible. You’re happiest and you get the most done when you have a flexible agenda. It looks like a distinct advantage may be coming your way around Tuesday and Wednesday — a lucky break, a bonus or an upgrade. Knowing you, you’ll be generous, too, keeping the good vibes going. But beware: If you can’t be bothered with the details from Thursday through most of Saturday, the details will likely become a bother to you. Time with friends, new or old, is favored on Sunday. How about brunch?
Wherever you are, you might wish you were someplace else on Monday. It’s just one of those days; breathe deeply and hold on. News is traveling about your ability to get things done, and around Tuesday and Wednesday, there’s a chance of getting overloaded. Know when to say no — or to ask the requestor to take on something in return. Over the next few days, though, you’re pretty much unstoppable, and it’s an excellent time to turn that sharp mind (and that solid-gold heart) toward the future. What is it you want to do next? Sunday’s ideal for taking the first step.
Stick to the plan on Monday. Your emotions may seem very compelling, but it’s unlikely you’ll still feel this way in the long term. In fact, as soon as Tuesday and Wednesday hit, you’ll be able to separate out your reaction from reality, and from there it’s easy to make a discovery and even improve a relationship. And if you’re interested in relating to people (or maybe a certain someone) on a deeper level, the rest of the week offers opportunities galore. Skip the chitchat and get down to the real deal by asking serious questions and sharing powerful emotions.
Monday’s a fun day, so if you have some time off, make the most of it. Making an overture of the romantic variety is favored now, too — lucky you! Keep your nose out of other people’s business around Tuesday and Wednesday, or at least keep your opinion of it to yourself. Further developments will have you glad you didn’t chime in. It’s your own affairs — maybe with a friend or partner — that are first and foremost during the remainder of the week. You’re usually so charitable, but right now you’re more critical, which can be very useful in making improvements.
