lahore literary festival 2015

each year, llf has come back bigger and better and as you know, the third times a charm! this year, the free-to-the-public event is bringing together over a 100 renowned authors, poets, artists & activists over three days that include thought-provoking discussions, personal revelations, book launches and signings, poetry recitals, musical performances and one-of-a-kind art exhibits. here’s what we are looking forward to this year !

new works

We’re excited to hear established authors presenting some new work including favourites like Mohsin Hamid, Salima Hashmi and Moni Mohsin.

international talent

LLF might be based in Lahore, but it’s scale is cosmopolitan. The festival will include writers from countries as diverse as India, Sri Lanka, Palestine, Australia, and the United States. Those crossing international borders for the occasion include Naseerudin Shah, Lebanese American novelist and painter Rabih Alemeddine and Peter Oborne whose cricket-centric book, The Wounded Tiger, is coming smack in the throes of World Cup fever.

keynote speaker

We can’t wait to hear renowned historian and scholar Romila Thapar whose work on ancient India is among the most respected in the field.

debut writers

We are looking forward to hearing from debut writers like Mahesh Rao who just might be responsible for our next favourite book.

the buzzing atmosphere

One of the best things about LLF is the atmosphere: the heady rush of being part of a community that appreciates books, art, and rousing debate.

musical evenings & dance performances

For the book and writing weary there will be plenty more including art and music performances. In 2014, Nahid Siddiqui and the Sachal Jazz Ensemble brought a packed house to their feet and we expect nothing less this year.

Program Coordinators Adnan Siddiqui

President Advisory Board Nuscie Jamil

Founding Director Razi Ahmed

Rimmel Mohydin

the dream team

Perhaps the reason LLF continues to outshine itself every single time is the dedication and energy of it’s team which includes Razi Ahmed, Nuscie Jamil, Adnan Siddiqui, Rimmel Mohydin and many volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make the event so seamless.

great minds

Some 50,000 people attended LLF 2014, which featured, among others, Ahmed Rashid, Ayesha Jalal, F. S. Aijazuddin, Fahmida Riaz, Hugh Eakin, Kamila Shamsie, Manju Kapur, Mira Nair, Mishal Husain, Mohammed Hanif, Muneeza Shamsie, Nahid Siddiqui, Naman Ahuja, Omar Shahid Hamid, Pervez Hoodbhoy, Pran Nevile, Rashid Rana, Razia Iqbal, Shahzia Sikander, Sherry Rehman, Shobhaa DĂŠ, Shrabani Basu, Tehmina Durrani, Vali Nasr, Vikram Seth, Zehra Nigah & Zia Mohyeddin. Looking forward to the lineup this year!

the revamped venue The Alhamra Art Center has gotten a facelift! We owe this one to the Punjab Government and the expertise of the original architect of this building, Nayyar Ali Dada. We are so excited to see & sit in the refurbished halls!

multitude of languages foodie haven

We can’t wait to dig into plates of steaming biryani and drink multiple cups of hot coffee under a dusky Lahore sky.

While the majority of sessions will be conducted in English, audiences will also have the choice of attending discussions in Urdu and Punjabi. The session with writers and poets from Bahawalpur and neighboring cities will be conducted in Seraiki.

arts exhibits

We expect literary events and satellite art exhibitions to spill into the entire city. We are looking forward to what Unver Shafi has in store for us! We’re also super excited to see what OCCO (Office for Conservation and Community Outreach) will be putting on display this year!

the fantastic crowd The LLF showcases the creative, inclusive and thriving side of Pakistan. We love the educated & interactive crowd and packed audiences.

book stalls

While the venue is packed with art showings and food vendors, the book stalls are not to be missed.Don’t forget to get your books signed by your favourite authors!

lahore comes alive

It’s hard not to get caught up in the atmosphere that grips a city steeped in so much literary and cultural history, in the wake of such an event. Lahore, home to artists and poets, to revolutions and rebirth, comes alive as the LLF inspires discussions that would otherwise stay dormant, or confined to dinner tables and small venues.

Tell us something about her that no one knows? Ali: I love the way she’s raising Azaan and the values she’s inculcating in him. Ayesha: He sings in his sleep. Tell us one thing you love and hate about her. Ali: She’s so patient and calm. Even when I’m at my worst, she manages to remain super calm. I dislike how I have to really push her to hit the gym! We just fit, we were meant to be and I couldn’t possibly live with anyone but him. He is my anchor! How did you propose? How did you first meet? We met in college. When did you know he/she was the one? Sarah: I knew pretty early on that he was the one. We were best friends - I could totally be myself with Zayd! Zayd: I knew in college that she was the one. How did you propose? During college we went to Puerto Rico with friends and over dinner he proposed. Our friend’s mother had set up the whole table very romantically and it was coincidentally Valentine’s Day. All our friends knew Zayd had planned to propose! What is the best time you have ever had together? Our fondest memories are when we had kids and when we travel, both during college and post college times. Our best trips include Puerto Rico, Miami, Rome & Paris! What's the most romantic thing you have ever done for each other? Sarah: My first Valentine’s Day back in Pakistan. It was a complete surprise where he took me on a boat decorated with flowers, music playing in the background arranged with my favourite food to eat from around the city. Zayd: The time when Sarah recreated an outdoor spa for me soon after we got back from Thailand! Tell us something about her/him that no one else knows. Sarah: He steals my eye creams. Zayd: At times, she has the lengthiest conversations with herself in the mirror!

Got there in the morning, changed into our bathing suits, rushed to the water park, where we hit all the slides and played with dolphins. After that we had dinner at the same hotel, slept for a few hours and caught the next flight out to Paris. It's the best transit time we've ever had! Qassim: Yesterday. When did you know he/she was the one? And why? I had no idea whether he was the one, but we were both annoyingly hooked and addicted to each other. A year later, I knew I wanted a son with his eyes – I was 16. How did you propose? He never proposed. I ran away the day he threatened to send his parents. He did anyway and my parents accepted! When I returned home, I was furious to know we were engaged. He recommended we "try it out". What's the most romantic thing you have ever done for each other? Every second with him is a laugh and a pleasure! Some of my favourite memories include biking with the kids, watching Amitabh Bachchan movies all night, having crazy Bollywood dance offs,

As a friend, he had always been extremely respectful and understanding - the qualities you need for a successful relationship! He is very caring and compassionate, qualities which are hard to find. When you know you have the perfect man, how can you say no! Ahmed: Mehreen is my better half. She sometimes understands me better than I do myself. She is caring and supportive and I just knew I wanted her in my life forever. What is the best time you have ever had together? Mehreen: We’ve had so many it’s difficult to choose one! I love when we travel together, explore new places and try different cuisines! Ahmed: We’ve had a lot of great memories together. I think our honeymoon was a lot of fun. How did you propose? Natasha: We were going from Santa Barbra to LA on a train and we got into a fight. I remember looking out at this gorgeous sight thinking what a sad way for us to break up (I was sure this was it) when he, much to my shock, asked me to marry him! Khitab: What she said. What’s the most romantic thing you have ever done for each other ? Natasha: I had a particularly tough phase recently and had never felt more lost. I can not tell you how horrible I was to be around and Khitab did nothing but give me love. Unconditionally. Khitab: I was having a tough time professionally and she sat me down and said “I want you to not worry about money and I want you to go find out what makes you happy, it doesn’t matter what it takes or how long. We will make do happily with what little we have. She stayed true to these words. Not once did she let me feel like I owed her anything for being the financial strength. She would put money in my wallet without me knowing so when the time to pay the bill at a restaurant came, I would not be embarrassed. Those times to me are extremely priceless. Tell us something about her/him that no one else knows. Natasha:: He’s an amazing cook and more vulnerable than he lets on :) Khitab: She would rather spend her time with animals then humans. Tell us one thing you love and one thing you dislike about each other. Natasha:I love his ability to stay hungry and foolish! Whether its jumping out a plane, riding his bike around the world or learning a new language he’s always pushing himself and inspiring me to learn and grow. Once he thinks he’s right there’s no changing his mind- very frustrating! Khitab: She can be a little messy at times!

When did you know he/she was the one? And why? Natasha: There was no one thing. He stumbles and picks himself up and learns and grows and lives by a strong moral code. He’s always pushed me to be the best version of me, seen me on my worst days and still had so much love and appreciation - it really humbles me. Khitab: I can’t really say it was one thing, she constantly leaves me speechless by being who she is. From stopping the car in the middle of the road to scream at kids being cruel to a stray dog, to knowing all the underprivileged kids at Ami’s by name, to meeting the door man and the CEO with the same level of warmth. The awesomeness that is Tasho needs a good long while to fully comprehend.

How did you first meet? Natasha: At a friend’s wedding! He was this BIG flirt and I had SUCH a huge crush on him. He gave me crazy butterflies so naturally, I ran the other way! Khitab: Since Tasho has already told you how we met I’ll tell you about the first time I saw her! A bunch of our mutual friends were out for dinner at BBQ Tonight where some random man made a lewd comment about her. The grace with which she handled the situation and put that person in his place left me a little awed. She certainly knew how to leave an impression!

sadaf zarrar & ali samee How did you first meet? Sadaf: We have common friends so we had known each other for quite some time. Ali: At a friends wedding.

When did you know he/she was the one? And why? Sadaf: Ali's always very matter of fact and clear headed, he decided he was going to marry me and that's exactly how he stated it 'Im going to marry you, you take your time'. Ali: Told her I was not interested in anything other than marriage. What is the best time you have ever had together? Sadaf: Honestly we’re two very close friends who happen to be married so we have fun together all the time but it's exceptionally enjoyable travelling with him. He is so organized that for me holidays are always stress-free and relaxing. Ali: Our honeymoon. Never been able to recreate that amazing disconnect from the rest of the world since. How did you first meet? We met in Paris where we both had been invited by L’Oreal to be part of their 100 year celebrations. When did you know he/she was the one? And why? Shammal: We hit it off instantly but knowing she was the one just came very naturally. I think we both just really compliment each other. Redah: I found a friend in Shammal much before so it was easy for me to know he was the one when the time came. He balanced me perfectly. How did you propose? Shammal: I made a book of all of our pictures together and at the end cut a box out into the book and put a ring in it. Redah: I was going through this book thinking why in the world has he made this album until I came to the last page where he’d asked me if I would marry him. I was so shocked I didn't know whether to laugh, cry or hug him.

What's the most romantic thing you have ever done for each other ? Sadaf: I'm not the one for grand gestures but Ali will remember the silliest little dates and make occasions out of them, when we first met, when I first called him. He really knows how to makes me the center of his world..Since he's away a lot my idea of romance is ensuring he has the best of tech to stay connected with us back home! Ali: Had a baby together. Tell us something about her/him that no one else knows. Sadaf: A while back Ali was a little tight on cash but I was travelling and he gave me a big fat cheque to go and shop for myself which I did of course only later to find out he had kept nothing for himself. He does these crazy selfless things all the time that make me fall for him all the time. Ali: She’s got the best monkey dance ever. Tell us one thing you love and one thing you dislike about each other. Sadaf: Ali's got a heart of gold, he's a great friend and he's the one to have on your emergency speed dial but oh God I don't think I'll ever get used to his road rage. Ali: Love her hug, and how her eyes light up and get chinkier when she smiles. Dislike her consumerist streak and poser traits.

What is your fondest memory together? Shammal: When our daughter Zoay was born. That summer I spent with her in London has the best memories. Redah: We recently celebrated our four year anniversary in the Maldives. It was just the two of us for four days where we made a bunch of new amazing memories. What's the most romantic thing you have ever done for each other? Shammal: Recently Redah surprised me with a sushi dinner she had made herself. Redah: Shammal lit up our house with candles when I came home from work on our first Valentine’s together after we got married!

Ali: We would talk on the phone. She in Pindi. Me on my farm. I would end up walking under the stars. A few shooting stars were what convinced me..

Tell us something about her/him that no one else knows. Shammal: Redah has insane OCD – she colour coordinates not just her clothes but mine and Zoay’s also! Redah: Shammal sings crazy old Indian songs every morning in the shower. Who would've guessed he would knows all the lyrics too? Tell us one thing you love and one thing you dislike about each other. Shammal: I really dislike Redah’s OCD sometimes! What I love most is that she unknowingly micromanages my life - I don't know what I'd do without her. Redah: Shammal is the messiest person in this world! I love that he never fails to surprise me & how generous and caring he is, Shammal has the biggest heart.

“I am quite proud that the Robert Alexander Salon is one of the pioneer introducers of Kerastase in Pakistani salons. Being a hair stylist I feel that this product has become an integral part of my work now. It has been quite a pleasure to work with The Nishat Hotel to bring a little piece of Lebanon to Pakistan” Robert Taha

To prime your hair for each hairstyle, Simon suggests a luxe Kérastase ritual.Kerastase Elixir Ultime is a legendary oil with the finest haircare ingredients. The alchemy of magical, scented oils, a blend of an oleo-complex and natural substances for a 24-carat ritual that enhances every hair type.

L’Oréal Paris has launched the ‘ambassador of fashion’ platform, a beauty and fashion collaboration in pakistan. they collaborated with master couturier nomi ansari to create a bespoke capsule fashion collection and saba ansari of sabs salon to lend her makeup expertise to complement the luxury hair brand’s trendsetting new gemstone shades. here, we had a chance to speak to the two about their collaboration.

where beauty meets fashion

nomi Ansari What do you think will be the upcoming trends of 2015? Florals, metallics, pastels and a few bold colours will make the cut. I think eclectic pieces will dominate to make clothing more comfortable yet chic and trendy. Do you have a specific research process when you start a new collection? I keep my eyes and ears open. You never know what will inspire you so you want to make yourself aware of your surroundings. I wouldn’t label that exactly as a research process though. How do you think L’Oréal Paris’ Excellence Crème ‘Ambassador of Fashion’ program will influence the way the world of Fashion works? L’Oréal Paris’ Excellence Crème ‘Ambassador of Fashion’ program will redefine fashion. It will help bring certain beauty concepts in to the lime light which will form the basis of designing inspiration. It is a great way for designer to challenge themselves as well. It will definitely restructure fashion and solidify the relationship between beauty and fashion we often take for granted. How did you incorporate the ‘Ambassador of Fashion’s’ concept of amalgamating fashion and beauty trends in your designs for Excellence Crème’s Gemstone Collection? The hair colour was inspired by the Andalusite gemstone and it was the colour and concept that inspired my vision for the clothing. I wanted to design something that brought attention and complemented the warm tones of the hair colour. It’s a unique style of designing because you want attention on the clothing but also want to highlight various beauty aspects. So I made a collection that used colours, patterns, and designs that built upon the beauty elements of the hair colour. What components in your gemstone wardrobe capture the magnetism of the brown shades?

There was a lot of embroidery, slight gemstone embellishments, shades of lighter colours and floral patterns to capture the glamour of the Gemstone collection. How did you find the experience of collaborating with model, Amna Babar, and make-up stylist, Saba Ansari, under the umbrella of the ‘Ambassador of Fashion’ program? I have worked with them before and it was a pleasure working with such talented women. Everything went so smoothly and I truly believe that we all put in a great effort to understand the concept of L’Oreal Paris’s bridging fashion and beauty and incorporated it in the role we played in the collaboration. It was truly a unique experience.

What do you think will be the prominent beauty trends of 2015? I think nudes, pastels, and metallics will override overwhelming colours! How was your experience in styling for the Excellence Crème’s Gemstone Collection photoshoot? It was a great team to work with! Amna’s a very professional model and Nomi’s a great designer! It was unique to work together to combine beauty and fashion and build upon the common concept emerging from the Gemstone Collection. Usually beauti-

Has the ‘Ambassador of Fashion’ program changed the way you perceive the concept of fashion? Most definitely! I often use birds or flowers or cultural elements in my designs but it has opened a new horizon of designing for by looking at various beauty products for inspiration.

saba Ansari What do you love about working in the beauty industry? Everything! Whether it’s bridal make-up or simple hair styling, I still feel the same passion for recreating someone’s look as I did when I first setup Sabs Salon in 2001. How has the beauty industry changed in Pakistan in the last few years and where do you see it heading? I think women have become more aware. They know more about what goes into styling so they have more confidence in what we’re doing. It’s not the stereotypical make me an ‘Aishwariya bride’ anymore which is refreshing and gives more room for versatility in make-up styling. Women are also becoming more concerned with their health and diet, which is reflected in their beauty. I think the beauty industry will continue to grow as more and more women indulge in beautifying themselves. There will be a slight change in salon culture as I think salons will merge in to spa like institutions to provide a wider array of services that women often want to avail at one place. If you could work with any international celebrity, who would you choose? Blake Liverly or Eva Longoria! I often seem them in the L’Oreal Paris ads and they just have the features and skin tones I would love to experiment with. I also wouldn’t mind getting a shot with Angelina Jolie!

cians work around designers but this time it was a collaboration so Nomi also had to design based on beauty concepts. This is a great new initiative by L’Oreal Paris that I think will pioneer more relationships between designers and beauticians. What new opportunities will the ‘Ambassador of Fashion’ program open up for makeup artists? It’ll open up a whole world of opportunities for both parties. Make-up artists will have the opportunity to work with designers outside the dimensions of traditional shoots and fashion shows, and designers will get the opportunity to design and create styles based on non-traditional beauty concepts. 2015

I wore a lime green sheer kalidar layered over a pink inner kali by Misha Lakhani. The dupatta was embellished with the most exquisite floral clusters and happens to be my favourite piece! I feel my mehndi outfit was the perfect balance between traditional and modern as she managed to bring together classic elements like gota and resham with a relaxed, contemporary silhouette, making it look effortlessly chic. The jewellery I wore was very special as it belonged to my mother in law’s trousseau. My makeup was fresh and dewy with a bright pink lip.

I had always wanted to be an elaborate, traditional bride and nobody does old world glamour like Bunto Kazmi! She gave me exactly what I had envisioned, a heavily worked burnt orange and plum farshi gharara paired with a deep red french net shirt and dupatta. These colours went perfectly with my nauratan jewellery, which was made by the same person who made my mother’s bridal set. I needed excessive back-combing so that the jhoomar would stay put! Travelling is great fun! You get to explore a new place, meet new people and get wiser! We want to know more and will share with you exciting travel stories from a few special people in our new section, planes, trains & automobiles! Where did you choose to go and why? Everyone has a dream destination but it is seldom that those dreams are realized. Just as I had never thought I would be a designer, I had never imagined I would visit the place, which is home to some of the designers who have inspired me to tread this career path. Beirut, Lebanon is truly the Paris of the Middle East – and in some manner strangely reminiscent of Lahore including our fascination for weddings. My trip to Lebanon was to attend the wedding of Yasmina, my friend from university, who we always thought would be the last one to marry but turned out to be the first. Who did you travel with? At the end of our time together at university, our group of 7 decided that we had to stay in touch and meet at least once a year, somewhere in the world. It started with our graduation trip to Barcelona, Spain followed by Monaco, Dubai and now, Beirut! It is a commitment we have

travel diaries

made to ourselves and to our friendship, to take time out from wherever we are and whatever we are doing to take that one holiday together before we go back to our busy schedules and planning the next trip ;) Where did you stay? Our choice of accommodation was dictated by the proximity to Yasmina’s house but turned out to be the best bet for us. The Four Point Sheraton, Le Verdun is a modern, contemporary, comfortable hotel with all the amenities that a group of young tourists could want, surrounded by entertainment in the form of quaint little cafes and restaurants. I particularly enjoyed eating at Scoozi which interestingly served a very unusual combination of cuisines – Italian pasta and Japanese sushi under one roof. For me personally, the fantastic (yet affordable) salon within the hotel premises was the biggest perk of all because for a fashionable city like Beirut that va va voom blow dry was an essential!

Finally, any tips? Most Pakistanis will feel right at home with the crazy traffic, manic drivers, harassing beggars and military check points all over the city. You will be safer calling in for a registered taxi that stays with you and charges by the hour, not by mileage. So if you are close enough, walk or be prepared to pay up to $10 an hour. For a cheaper deal you can get “service” by hailing a red number plate taxi off the road but this is generally recommended for locals who know the city. One point to remember – they actually like Pakistanis!! So go ahead, make a trip to Beirut -.you will feel welcomed

The most imposing structure in Downtown Beirut is the Mohammad Al Amin mosque with its blue domes and tile work boasting stunning calligraphy and floral motifs. Old brick structures and ancient ruins are nestled between modern buildings, while the mountains form the back-drop for the entire city. It’s a marvel of nature that within an hour and a half you can drive up from the sunny, sandy beaches to the waterfalls, grottos and cooler climes up in the mountains. Time constraints didn’t allow me to undertake the boat trip through the limestone caves of Jeita grotto but Eid in Beirut was an experience unlike any I have had before. It is a city that thrives on its night life and parties all year round – Eid was just one more reason to party harder

What can you do over there to relax and unwind? The Lebanese culture is all about looking good and having the perfect tan. Locals throng to the beach clubs riding the waves on jet skis, enjoying iced drinks and smoked salmon sandwiches and soaking up the sun. Alternatively, you can relax on a sun bed, or at an infinity pool or go for a spa day if you are as obsessed as the Lebanese about how you look. Just avoid a trip to the numerous cosmetic surgery clinics unless you are planning to be there for a long time because you won’t know when to stop.

Suggest some amazing restaurants there? Beirut is one of those cities that is blessed with beautiful weather all year round and the locals make the most of it dining at open-air cafes and roof-top restaurant lounges Capitole - renowned for its beef carpaccio; Iris -overlooking the port and serving delicate food accompanied by live music; and a long line of different restauants along the Zaituna Bay, perfect for a sunny summer afternoon.

Suggest places for a perfect night out The Lebanese love dressing up and going out. Uruguay Street is a pedestrian open area, dotted with terraced restaurants, bars and international themed pubs. The perfect weather, danceable music and infectious vivaciousness in the air has earned Beirut the reputation of being the “wild-child” of the otherwise relatively conservative Middle East. Glass broken in “celebration” all over the street made it impossible for us to cross over in our strappy high heels and gave the guys an opportunity to carry the girls across – now that’s WILD like the sheer size of an average night club in Beirut! Sky bar and White Beirut are two of the most popular clubs, built on multiple levels on roof-tops, with fire blowers mingling with the crowd as acrobats swayed above the dance floor and women in razor sharp stilletos danced on the tables. Even wilder was the age limit on entry at the club – gents over 23 and ladies over 21!

What are the best shopping spots there? Beirut truly is a shoppers paradise from luxury brands like Herve Leger, Isabel Marant and Elie Saab to high street stores within malls and the Beirut Souk downtown, an open-air, contemporary shopping mall built on the site of the traditional souk, that beautifully integrates modernity with heritage. My luckiest find was a little stall-like shop in the souk, run by a grandmother-grand daughter duo, stocking one-off pieces by local Lebanese designers. And then, there was Zuhair Murad pure Lebanese glamour that I paid a humble tribute to in my launch collection! I could not help but take a photograph with “that dress!!” I managed to convince the store manager to let me take the photograph despite her snooty attitude – something that all the stores staff had in common!

Monday through Wednesday, you’re trying to get a jump on the week. You want to get as much done as possible, and to get ahead without making it look like you’re trying too hard. After all, wouldn’t it be great for your reputation if you could make magic happen and not break a sweat? You’re going to need help, and you know exactly whom to ask. Motivate them well. Thursday and Friday, a group meeting reveals that everyone more or less thinks of you as being in charge. You’re a natural leader. This weekend, do what you can to shine light on other people.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are excellent days. Some travel plans get finalized (you can’t wait!), someone who thinks they’re much smarter than you concedes that you were right and they were wrong about something (your head’s getting big!) and someone you’ve never understood explains their side of things (you’re learning!). Thursday and Friday are a little less than excellent — a power struggle is in the stars and your friends are being weird. But Saturday and Sunday, your friends are back to normal and one in particular is in need of an update. Spend an evening together and fill them in.

Monday through Wednesday, nothing is as it seems. You can tell something’s up, but that doesn’t help you. Try to draw people out, but don’t work too hard at it. Some things take time. It’ll all become clear soon enough. Go into Thursday and Friday with an open mind, because something radical is under way, and you’re going to find out about it. The more prepared you are to have your point of view completely turned around, the better. This weekend, occupy your brain with something creative. Postpone all thoughts of math and politics and communicating with other people (unless you’re thinking about them creatively).

Monday through Wednesday are kind of gloomy, but not in a very noticeable way. It’s more like an afterthought, a background thought, a not-all-thatdistracting feeling. Mostly you just feel unbalanced. But don’t worry, because on Thursday and Friday, the feeling evaporates in the heat of a romantic bender. And not only are you getting along fantastically well with you-knowwho, but you’re getting along fantastically well with everyone. Saturday and Sunday, try not to be swayed by people who don’t fully understand your goals. Your plan is good and right.

Monday through Wednesday draws on your powers of determination and selfcontrol. You’re under intense scrutiny at work, for whatever reason. (A promotion on the horizon? You never know.) In any case, you work incredibly well with other people. This may explain why everyone wants to be on your side. If only you were so appreciated at home! This is a common refrain in your mind, but it’s especially true Thursday and Friday. Expect something unexpected in the domestic realm. Saturday and Sunday, all the worries wash away in a wave of romance.

Monday through Wednesday, you find your outlook subtly affected by the amount of money in your wallet. Specifically, you have a desire to keep more of it in there. It’s true that no amount of money can buy you a good time; even a day skiing in the most fantastic setting of all would be for naught if you weren’t into it. Most of the pleasure you get out of the week is social, and most of your social time is on Thursday and Friday. You love talking to someone from a completely different social group. This weekend, if you feel like you should leave the house but you don’t really want to, don’t.

Monday through Wednesday is pretty much what you always want in your workdays: lots getting done, a happy outlook, high energy, recognition in the areas where you deserve it. Of course, the compliments from your good friends are the ones that mean the most, but even people you barely know are impressed. Thursday and Friday you’re given to daydreaming about the future. You can’t help it: Things look really good from where you are! Saturday and Sunday, put all of your energy

From Monday through Wednesday, every fiber in your being is telling you to climb out of the cockpit and onto the wing to repair any problems. But you know full well that you can’t climb out of the cockpit and fix the wing — you’ll get sucked into outer space! You have to keep flying the thing. That’s the first half of your week. Again, you want to keep on flying. On Thursday and Friday, you’re in beautiful territory. Blue skies. Friends nearby. A clear sense of your future. Saturday and Sunday, you’re trying to reconcile the fantastical stuff about the world with the everyday.

Monday through Wednesday, watch your words. Something flippant and funny and just a little biting might really rattle someone — even if you’re absolutely, obviously kidding. Offhand comments have a way of sinking into people, and you don’t want people you adore walking around slightly damaged by you. Thursday and Friday, the thing you’re trying hardest to do might be a waste of your time. Consider letting go. Saturday and Sunday, as much as it seems like you should make a financial decision, put it off until next week. You’re still letting your plan take shape in your mind.
