Reforming Homework discusses these issues and suggests that there are two main problems with homework as it is currently planned and organised. First, much homework is a repetitive practice and does not contribute to new learning. Secondly, much homework is too complex and difficult for students to complete by themselves. Such complex tasks come at a considerable cost to family life, parental time and equity. This text proposes that a sociocultural conception of homework is required in order to address such concerns. It provides alternative ways of approaching and organising homework as a cultural practice within varying school and cultural contexts.

MARK WRICE is a specialist retailer trainer with over 30 years’ experience in the industry. He has worked through levels from junior sales assistant to management in both small and large retailers. Since 1984, when he gained the Training and Development Certificate, Mark has been specifically involved in the development, design and presentation of training. He developed his training skills in companies such as Fays Shoes, Kmart, FJ’s, Auto Plus and the NSW Retail Industry Training Council. Mark established MLW Training Consultants in 1992 as a specialist retail and management consultancy. The third edition of First Steps in Retail Management endeavours to cover all of the new responsibilities that individuals will have as a manager in a retail environment, as well as to extend the information covered in First Steps in a Retail Career, third edition.
