On Feb 19, 1973 Dr. Doug Nielsen welcomed his first patient into his dental practice. When Dr. Doug Nielsen was accepted into UBC Dental School in February 1968, he knew that he would open his future dental practice back home in Richmond. His family had moved to Richmond in 1949 and he realized by 1971 that Steveston was changing rapidly and was going to continue to grow and develop. He approached his classmate, Dr. Bob Jamieson, and he was on board with building a clinic in Steveston. Dr. Doug remembers standing with Bob on the vacant lot, looking west at the cabbage fields and saying “Every one of those cabbages will someday be a house filled with a family.”
