What’s new for the 2021 tax season?

This year we encourage all clients to sign up for CRA My Account. Starting in 2023, the CRA will no longer mail paper Notices of Assessment. Taxpayers will receive their Notices of Assessment electronically through CRA My Account.

If you received COVID-related benefits in 2021, the CRA will mail you a T4A slip to include in your tax filing. There is no extended interest relief this year; however, you can contact the CRA to make payment arrangements if necessary.

For those who worked from home in 2021 for more than fifty percent of the time for four consecutive weeks, you can claim Employment Expenses of two dollars per day up to $500 maximum without receipts. If your employer issued you a T2200S declaration form, you can claim eligible expenses such as rent, utilities, internet, cell phone, and office supplies.

Subscribers to a qualifying newspaper such as The Vancouver Sun or The Globe and Mail may be able to claim the Digital News Subscription tax credit.

Please call or drop by and we’ll be happy to help you.
