LONDON HERITAGE FARM SOCIETY

Richmond’s long-standing history of farming and agriculture is alive and well at the London Heritage Farm. This farm site was purchased by William London and Charles London in 1886 and on this land they built the London family farmhouse.

The London Heritage Farm Society, in partnership with the City of Richmond, supports, preserves and celebrates the authenticity of the London farm and all that it encompasses.

This includes authentic artifacts both in the house as well as in and around the barn, including a very old tractor and threshing machine. In addition, the gardens surrounding the house reflect the types of flowers and various herb bushes that would have been found in the London family garden.

The Society endeavours to keep the site and the farmhouse reflective of the era including maintaining the many original varieties of trees and fruit bearing bushes. Beehives, lavender gardens and a duck pond can also be seen as important components of a rich farm life. And don’t forget the chickens! While visiting the farm you will enjoy the activities of the resident chickens and rooster. These creatures love to roam the grounds and use various areas for their daily bath. The London Heritage Farm website has a wonderful video of these activities!

The Society’s promotion of organic gardening and farming is further exemplified in the allotment gardens, which are part of the site. Gardeners for these plots ensure all that is grown is organic; many of these types of produce would have been part of the London family vegetable garden.

Jams and jellies made from fruit picked at the farm are sold at the Society's gift shop located inside the farmhouse. In addition, visitors can purchase a delicious blend of “London Lady” tea that partners nicely with tempting scones that are baked onsite. Special events are held throughout the year, and during these times visitors can experience a delightful afternoon tea in the home's former dining room.

With the end of COVID in sight, the Society will once again host the Mother's Day annual plant sale and the London Family Farm Day, both events are major attractions for Richmond families. The Society welcomes new members! For further information visit the website or email londonhf@telus.net.
