Many of the business and office management programs transfer into Palm Beach State’s Bachelor of Applied Science program in Supervision and Management. Take the next step on your career path and earn your bachelor’s degree at Palm Beach State! The B.A.S. in Supervision and Management, with a concentration in General Management, equips you with the skills that employers desire. Gain workforce knowledge and skill sets in finance, legal and ethical issues, management information systems, leadership, human resources and organizational decision making. The Bachelor of Applied Science degree is primarily designed for students with associate degrees who want to advance in their professional education.

Accounting Technology A.S./A.A.S. degree

Accounting

You’ll learn the principles of organizing business and financial records and writing financial reports plus using accounting software programs such as QuickBooks, Peachtree and Excel. You’ll also take general education courses (humanities, communications, mathematics, social sciences and health) to acquire skills that all employers consider important. Just some of the positions available to you with an A.S. or A.A.S. in accounting technology are accounts receivable clerk, accounting specialist, payroll specialist, tax assistant or para-professional accountant.

Accounting Technology College Credit Certificate This certificate program prepares you for an entry-level position as an accounting clerk or bookkeeper. It can also provide supplemental training for people previously or currently employed in the accounting field. Credits earned in this certificate program will transfer into the A.S. or A.A.S. degree in Accounting Technology.

Insurance

Life, Health and Variable Annuities Agent PSAV certificate This 40-hour (five-week) course will prepare you to take the licensing exam to be a life insurance agent, which includes selling health and variable annuities. You’ll learn insurance terminology and concepts, federal and state regulations and legal contracts as well as communication, human relations and employability skills.

Property and Casualty General Lines Agent PSAV certificate This 200-hour (14-week) course will prepare you to take the Florida Department of Insurance exam to be licensed in Property and Casualty/General Lines. You’ll learn about auto, fire and allied lines, general liability, homeowner’s, crime and surety, worker’s compensation, inland and ocean marine, aviation and boiler machinery insurance.

If your plan is to earn a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, you can begin at Palm Beach State College with an A.A. degree. You’ll take the same general education courses required for all bachelor’s degrees (in humanities, communications, mathematics, natural sciences, social sciences and health and foreign languages) as well as lower-level business courses to prepare you for the upper-level courses at the university you choose.

This degree program is designed for the student who wants a broad background in business, wants to advance in a current position or wants to start a small business. You’ll learn about management and supervision, human relations, bookkeeping concepts, marketing and communications.

College Credit Certificate This certificate program prepares you for ownership of a small business, and it also provides supplemental training for persons who already own a small business. You’ll learn about theories of management, management of economic resources, organization, the human factor and decision making.

With a college credit certificate in marketing, you’ll be ready for an entry-level position such as an advertising and display specialist or a marketing, advertising and public relations specialist. If you’re already employed in the field, the certificate will give you that supplemental training you need. You’ll learn about marketing, human relations, business law, management and bookkeeping.

This 27-credit certificate program is designed to prepare the student for entry-level employment in a law office as a receptionist, word processor, legal office assistant, legal support specialist, and legal transcriptionist. Students will gain an understanding of the legal system and prepare legal documents.

Credits earned in these certificate programs will transfer into the Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Office Administration. These certificate programs also provide supplemental training for persons previously or currently employed in office careers. Hospitality and Tourism Management Hospitality and Tourism Management A.S./A.A.S. degree This degree program will prepare you for a management position in the hospitality industry or related fields. You’ll learn about food service, cooking and dining room management. You’ll also gain expertise in hotel management, and the business activities you’ll need to succeed: security and personnel management, accounting and computer applications, sales promotion and advertising. With your degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management, you will be qualified for such positions as hotel front desk manager, human resources specialist, event planner, reservations manager, room supervisor, housekeeping supervisor, manager trainee for a hotel chain or assistant manager of a restaurant.

Food Service Management College Credit Certificate Besides learning how to cook professionally, you’ll receive training in the hospitality business, sanitation, dining room management, international foods and cost control of food and beverages. The 30 credits will apply toward an A.S./A.A.S. degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management.

Hospitality College Credit Certificate You’ll gain an overview of the hospitality industry plus training in purchasing, personnel management, hospitality industry law, security, property management and hotel/motel front office procedures. Paralegal A.S. degree

With an A.S. paralegal degree from Palm Beach State College, you’ll be qualified for positions as a paralegal/legal assistant in public and private law practices and corporate or government law-related activities. You’ll be ready to take the National Association of Legal Assistants national exam to become a Certified Legal Assistant. You’ll learn legal concepts, court systems, tort law, business law, real estate law, immigration, estate law, bankruptcy and legal communications. You could specialize in a particular area of law such as real estate, litigation, criminal, probate, civil or tax law.

Real Estate

Sales Associate PSAV certificate This 63-hour (4-10 weeks) program will teach you the basic principles, practices and legal aspects of real estate sales to prepare you for employment as a real estate sales associate or provide supplemental education for those previously employed in this occupation. The course is required before you take the state licensing exam to be a sales associate. After you receive your sales associate license, you’ll need to take additional classes, which are offered at Palm Beach State College.

Broker PSAV certificate This 72-hour program will teach you about valuing real property, finance, investment, listing and selling real property and specialties such as zoning, environmental issues and property management and real estate closings. Students must have a real estate license to take this course. A successful passing score of both the course and state license exam is required to become a real estate broker.
